Stop Taking up Space in the Gym!

It annoys me when people are standing around talking more than working out in the gym. Don't you know people want to use the equipment? You're in the way! So many people go to the gym and waste time. They take entirely too long breaks or just do the minimum. Why are you even in the gym? If you don't want to be there, then leave. You know who I'm talking about. Hey, if you need a break, by all means, do what you gotta do. Everyone has off days. I'm talking about the ones who just want to say they've been to the gym so they can look like a tough guy on facebook. Please.. Get out of the mirror, move aside, and let me get my reps in. Hit it hard or hit the road!

Music Essay

Here is an essay I wrote about music. I hope it's not too corny. Haha!

Music is very inspirational. I enjoy singing, dancing and listening to music. It has been said that different music can enhance your mood. It can bring joy and comfort. It can also make you angry or rowdy. It can get you moving and bring back memories. I like to imagine different images as I close my eyes and listen to classical or instrumental music.

I don't know if I can pick one type of music as my favorite. I am very eclectic and love a variety. On the top of my list would be Reggae and other Caribbean music like Soca, Merengue, Salsa, Bachata, and Reggaeton. I love the way that it moves me to dance and shake my hips. Soulful R&B is another sweet spot for me. I love to sing along to great hits. I am no stranger to karaoke, and not too bad if I must say so myself.

I have lots of respect for people who put their life into bringing music to the rest of us. Most people don't think about all the work that it takes to produce music, but we reap the benefits. I am not a professional singer, but I have spent some time in the studio. You do things over and over until it's exactly how you want it. Then you listen to it a week later and wish you had done something different. That's only one part of the process (the fun part if you ask me). There is also editing and other stuff that I don't know about. Thanks to music and the artists who make it, the world is a much better, lively and more colorul place to live.

For Our Soldiers

I work in a place where I see soldiers everyday. A lot of people can't say that, but to me, it's really no big deal because I was a soldier myself for 8 years. I lived with them, ate with them, worked with them, and partied with them. When you sign up for the military you don't really think about being deployed or losing limbs. Well, I should say when everything is peaceful you don't think about those things. Young soldiers today might have actually thought about the risks and maybe have even seen evidence of deployment.

This morning when I walked in, I passed a soldier with a serious limp and a metal hand. "Scarred for life" is an understatement for him and his family. He probably didn't have any idea that would happen to him when he signed up. Soldiers like that are either proud of their injuries, resentful or depressed.

I just want to say thank you to our soldiers. Thank you for choosing this career. Thank you for serving our country. Thank you for doing what needs to be done especially when you don't want to do it. Thank you for dealing with the harsh living conditions at times. Thanks for your hard work and training. Thanks for keeping yourself "fit to fight." Thank you for not quitting when you feel like you just can't take it anymore. Always know that you are not alone. Thank you.

Pilgrim or Indian?

They say the first Thanksgiving took place around 1621, where the Native Americans and the English settlers had one big happy feast for three days. Native Americans were most likely giving thanks more often than once a year, way before someone wrote it down. Only the people who were there knew what really went down.

I am thankful that I am celebrating Thanksgiving in this time period and not that one. I probably would not have been a happy Native American or a Pilgrim. I don't even know which one I would have been. My heritage is so mixed up. I am everything (generally speaking). Black, White, Native American, Asian, Spanish. All I can say is that I am a product of history, but I have nothing to do with what was done. My people were enslaved, tortured, raped, and also did those horrible things to others. This is America. We've come a long way to get where we are today. I'm not trying to justify anything or say that history doesn't matter. I'm just saying that I'm thankful for being in this time and age and I don't have to deal with what they dealt with back in the day. Yes we have our own issues, but I give thanks for this melting pot we live in and my friends, family, and neighbors who can share their culture with me without feeling any type of way. I love learning about other cultures and it makes me happy that we are free to celebrate in our own ways.

STOP TEACHING HATE!

People... Stop teaching your kids to hate! Children are like sponges, absorbing everything. When you act a certain way or say things, they take it all in. Of course no one is perfect (not even me), but just be more aware, especially when you are around children. The hate cycle will never end as long as we keep instilling it into our kids heads. That joke you said about a certain race or culture, was probably hurtful to someone somewhere. So when your kid gets in trouble at school for repeating it, guess who's fault it was. Cultural differences should be embraced not mocked. Stop passing down your stereotypes and bad information.

Scary Questions

You know what's great about the internet? You can find the topics that normal people don't talk about and questions that people are scared to ask their friends or family. You know, the personal ones where you get that "you're weird" look. Or even better the "I can't believe you asked that" look. I guess back in the day those questions went unanswered. Unless you're the bold type, and probably depending on the question, you saved them for your doctor or some other person. Someone who you don't really care if they think you're nuts. Well now we can turn to the world wide web. When you finally do the search, you find that there are others with the same question or same problem as you. So... you're not so weird after all. Or are you?

A Chapter in my Life

Going through my desk, I found a shared book of poetry. Join me as we take a look back to a chapter of my life. It was a somewhat short chapter, but will be a super long post with multiple poems. It sums up a past relationship with all kinds of emotions. The only good things that came out of it were these poems and a few friends that I met through him. With his permission, the poetry is written by Joe V Gonzalez III and myself. Mine in pink and his in blue. He gave me permission knowing that it could make him look like an a$$hole. Ha! The first one was actually written before the relationship, but later became the foundation. Oh, and just for the record, all emotions- as real as they were then, are now gone. I was in a dream for a few months

so incredibly real

it was a perfect picture of love

you don't know how he made me feel

everything was so fairy tale

so beautiful so right

i thought i may have found

my shining armored knight

when he told me to wake up

i didn't understand why

why didn't he want me to stay?

my heart hurt, so i cried

i cried for a week

Happy Three Kings Day!

This is the day that the three Kings or Magi brought gifts to baby Jesus. Some people skip Christmas and give/get their gifts today-- or they do both. The children put a box or shoes under their bed with grass or hay for the camels and in the morning they find the grass has been eaten and they are left with a gift from the Kings!

I find it funny when people first learn about this holiday and have a negative reaction or say they don't believe in it, but they celebrate an imaginary fat man squeezing up and down chimneys, flying on a sleigh with reindeer. Ho, ho, ho!

2010 comes to an end

It's been a good year. I've experienced new things, seen a lot and accomplished pretty much. The highlights: I started my first blog, I went to two different islands, had our 1st year wedding anniversary, my middle child started Kindergarten, sold some crafts, had a wonderful 1st Christmas in our year old home, and tons of stuff in between all that. As the year comes to an end, I look forward to the new year and more good things to come. I hope to be a positive and shining light that others will be inspired to be positive and happy as well. I can't stand when people are "downers" and never have anything good to say. Appreciate what you have and if you don't like it, change it. Hopefully I will have lighter, more cheerful poems, but I think I'm more expressive in those sad and angry moods. Not very positive, but I'll try. :)

I think I will try to incorporate other peoples poetry in my blog as well. Of course the author will get all credit, I'm not trying to steal the light. I'm just not always inspired to write poetry as much as I used to be. I guess my new creative outlet (crocheting and jewelry) has taken over.
