Brandon Jay McLaren is Back for "Graceland" Season 3 (Renewed)

2014-11-11T14:27:00.002-08:00

According to the official Facebook page of USA Network's "Graceland", an announcement was made that the show has been renewed for a 3rd season.

Brandon Jay McLaren (formerly the Red SPD Power Ranger) has been part of the main cast since season 1. He plays U.S. Customs agent Dale "DJ" Jakes who is the irritable lone wolf of the "Graceland" team but can also be nice and funny sometimes.

His voice sounds different in the show compared to when he was in Power Rangers SPD and in recent interviews at news stations or conventions. Perhaps Brandon tweaks his voice when portraying Dale Jakes on "Graceland" to appear more serious so the audience knows his character is someone that nobody should mess with.

In the picture below, Brandon is standing on the left with his pockets in his hands.

He is not the only Power Rangers alumni to be in a show that airs on USA Network though. Amy Jo Johnson, the former Pink Mighty Morphin Power Ranger, joined season 5 of "Covert Affairs" as a recurring character. It's nice to see them doing well in their acting careers outside of the "Power Rangers" franchise.

Austin St. John, David Yost, & Walter Emanuel Jones Reunite - ABC 13 News Interview

2014-05-27T15:57:00.002-07:00

Many of us Power Rangers fans have not seen Austin St. John for years after his previous convention appearances. This is because he has been spending time working overseas. But now...he is back!

In the video below, Don Nelson interviews Austin St. John, David Yost, and Walter Emanuel Jones, the original three male rangers from the very first season. They were in Texas to attend Houston's Comicpalooza event as special guests.

Johnny Yong Bosch Talks About Experience With Homeless Woman - Anime Central 2012

2014-04-27T22:14:00.000-07:00

Here is a video of Johnny Yong Bosch (2nd Mighty Morphin Black Ranger) telling a hilarious true story at the Anime Central 2012 convention about his experience interacting with a homeless woman.

Bosch says that whenever he leaves from work, he takes the same freeway and after exiting a long offramp, he usually sees a homeless man standing at the corner of the traffic lights. He typically ignores them and drives away.

One day, Johnny is driving home from work, gets to the same place, stops at the red light, and is munching on carrots in a Ziploc bag that he had leftover from lunch. Behind him, a big monster truck with tinted windows pulls up. Johnny gets scared and starts eating his carrots fast because there might be some angry person driving the truck. He's thinking, "As soon as that light changes green, I better get out of here because he's gonna kill me!"

Looking over to his side, there is a homeless woman standing there this time instead of a homeless man. His heart went out to her and he felt like giving her something. He grabbed about 2 pounds of quarters from his cupholders and put them into the plastic Ziploc bag. That's right, 2 pounds. He has a lot of change because there are parking fees that he has to pay in Los Angeles.

He then rolls down the windows and suddenly, the light changes green and the other cars take off quickly. He panics and doesn't know how to give the homeless woman the money quickly without her grabbing him out of the car and before the monster truck driver gets mad and runs him over.

After thinking for a second, he finally decided to flick the bag of money into the lady's hands and get out of there. Unfortunately, he accidentally threw the money smack into the lady's face. The traumatic scene felt like it was happening in slow motion to Johnny. The bag ripped open with quarters falling everywhere. As he is driving away, he looks back and was like, "Noooo! Why?! I was doing such a good thing!"

Ever since that incident, he never saw a homeless person there ever again. The homeless people must have heard about it and decided to avoid the place in fear of going through the same experience.

There is a lesson to all of this, Johnny says, and that is "Don't give money to homeless people while driving!"

Why Do Power Rangers Dress According to Their Color?

2014-02-17T16:07:00.004-08:00

This question is asked a lot by fans. Why do power rangers usually dress according to their colors?

The answer is simple. Most likely, it is to help kids identify who is which ranger. After all, "Power Rangers" is primarily a children's show even though there are older fans who still watch it. You may argue that kids are smart enough to figure out who is who for themselves, but not everyone is like that. Some people are slower than others, so the colors are very helpful.

In the real world, if heroes want to keep their identities a secret, they should not be wearing their superhero colors in their daily life. That brings me to a second reason why rangers wear their colors. Except for teams like Lightspeed Rescue (who show their identities to the public), it does not make sense right? Well, it's just a cool aspect of the show. You may or may not like it, but for some of us fans, it looks nice to see the rangers wearing civilian clothes matching their ranger colors. Sure, it's not realistic for the story...but it's a tradition. For me, Ninja Storm and Dino Thunder had the best wardrobes. Whoever was in charge of that had a really good sense of fashion.

There have been some instances in which the rangers wear totally different colored clothing that features only a small hint of their ranger color. Take a look at this photo from the 15th anniversary special team-up "Once a Ranger" from Power Rangers Operation Overdrive. The only yellow that Kira Ford (Yellow Dino Thunder Ranger) has on her are her belt, bracelet, and morpher.

It's great to see them stepping a little bit away from the tradition every now and then, but not completely. As long as the ranger color is somewhere on the actors, whether it be their entire clothes or on a single bracelet, I think it would be fine. I love it when they represent their ranger colors!

Ciara Hanna and Jason Smith Dating?! - Yellow Megaforce Meets Red Jungle Fury

2014-02-16T05:17:00.002-08:00

These photos have surfaced the internet some time ago in 2013 and got fans surprised for many reasons:

Casey the Red Jungle Fury Ranger is back for Super Megaforce!
It seems as though Ciara Hanna and Jason Smith are dating. They do look like they are a couple, especially when they're staring into each other's eyes in the first picture. The two have also tweeted each other in a teasing manner as well.
Even if they are not dating, then maybe their characters are romantically linked and now the actors have become close friends. Will Casey be Gia's love interest?

It is now 2014 and we are not exactly sure if these two are still or ever were dating, but here are the photos below. Special thanks to those who took them and posted them!

NEW 'Power Rangers Dino Charge' Coming in 2015 - Early Announcement

2014-02-14T19:38:00.000-08:00

USA Today reported on February 8, 2014 that Saban Brands has announced that Power Rangers Dino Charge will be released in 2015. The marketing poster can be seen below:

The timing of this news is unusual as Power Rangers Super Megaforce has not even premiered yet. In the past, new seasons of Power Rangers would be announced after or near the end of the current season. Whether or not the early news is a good idea, it's a risk that Saban Brands is taking as part of its marketing strategy. A lot of children are likely to be excited about a dinosaur-themed season. After all, dinosaurs are one of the most interesting creatures that kids think are cool and they love to play with dinosaur toys.

Now that I think about it, this could probably work. By getting people hyped up about Dino Charge, fans will crave it impatiently and then satisfy their urge by watching Super Megaforce in the meantime as they wait for 2015. Not to mention, stores could be stocking their shelves with Dino Charge toys in the Winter as they usually do with new Power Rangers toys. By then, kids will be going crazy for new ranger toys and parents will know what to buy for Christmas, especially when they are informed ahead of time about Dino Charge news.

The first season, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, used the dinosaur theme which could very well be one of the most significant factors that catapulted the franchise to popularity as one of the biggest hit children's TV shows of all time. The most recent use of dinosaurs was in Disney's Power Rangers Dino Thunder in 2004 which delved into the theme much more with the rangers finding dino eggs, using dino gems as a source of power, riding on dinos during combat, and even going on field trips to learn about dinosaurs. Jason David Frank (who played Tommy Oliver from Mighty Morphin, Zeo, and Turbo) also returned as the rangers' mentor and high school science teacher for the season.

Titanium Ranger Not Returning for Power Rangers Super Megaforce?

2014-02-14T01:08:00.001-08:00

On May 4, 2013, Rhett Fisher announced on his Twitter page that he was invited to do a cameo for Power Rangers, but was later uninvited the next week due to budget reasons. Another former ranger actor, Blake Foster (Justin the Blue Turbo Ranger) was also uninvited for the same reason. This is not only a major letdown for fans, but a huge embarrassment on Saban Brands' part. Rumor has it that the company sent out several invites, picked a certain amount of actors who accepted, and rejected the rest. The company's financial planners should have carefully figured out the budget so that they know how many people to invite at a time. This way, they don't over-invite so many and then end up having to reject because they find out they don't have enough finances to bring them on board the show. The process needs to be done in proper increments.

Guess who was invited to do a cameo on PR Megaforce and then un-invited the next week because of budget restrictions. #majorletdown#titanium
— Rhett Fisher (@therhettfisher) May 4, 2013

Even though the Titanium Ranger has appeared in behind-the-scenes production photos of Super Megaforce, I don't think he will be shown very much. The stunt person inside the costume is wearing the wrong helmet. It was used in Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue for when the rangers supposedly slide their visors down so they can see through the helmet better. Basically, two helmets are used for this trick: one with the visor on, the other without one. Special effects are added to create the transition animation of the visor sliding down. This was also done in Power Rangers Ninja Storm.

If you examine the behind-the-scenes photo closely, you can see that the visor-less helmet does not show the stunt person's face. Fans speculate that some dark plastic was used to hide it, but we can still see the built-in mouthpiece. Some new photos of Super Megaforce have recently been released and the Titanium Ranger is nowhere to be seen. Perhaps the production crew finally decided to take him out of the show due to the helmet situation. He would be the only ranger who looks out of place. Tommy Oliver's green ranger helmet design is slightly off with the silver streaks on top, but isn't a severe issue. That green helmet and suit was probably the same one that was used in the "Fighting Spirit" episode of Dino Thunder in which Tommy fought 3 of his past ranger forms.

It would be disappointing for Titanium fans to not get to see him again, but it would also be irritating if his appearance is not accurate. Let's face it, that modified helmet is weird. The original one is lost or damaged somewhere. I can imagine the showrunners arriving at their final decision, "If we're not going to do it right, then don't do it at all." I don't know about you ranger fans out there, but I certainly wouldn't like to see a sub-par version of the awesome Titanium Ranger!

Power Rangers Super Megaforce - How Will Tommy Oliver’s Return Be Explained?

2014-02-12T22:37:00.000-08:00

In May 2013, Jason David Frank confirmed on his official Facebook page and through various sources that he would be returning for a special guest appearance to Saban Brands’ Power Rangers in its 21st season, Power Rangers Super Megaforce, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the franchise. Well known for portraying the legendary and probably the most popular character in all of Power Rangers history, he expressed much excitement to his fans when he broke the news. Behind-the-scenes production photos were posted on Facebook which showed him wearing the iconic Mighty Morphin Green Ranger suit with the helmet off. Several other past ranger actors were shown alongside him in some photos. Tommy Oliver is indeed back!

I do wonder how he and some of the former rangers will be getting their powers back. Will there be an explicit and proper explanation? Or are they just going to show up and morph without explaining anything? If there isn’t an explanation, then fans can make up their own theories. After all, anything is possible unless it is directly stated or proved otherwise onscreen. Maybe the writers will do something simple and give us a similar explanation like the one in the 15th anniversary team-up (in Power Rangers Operation Overdrive) in which the Sentinel Knight character said he restored the veteran rangers’ powers.

Since Tommy has served as five different rangers (green, white, twice as red, and black) in the course of ranger history, I also wonder how that will play in to Super Megaforce. There were previews that were released which showed a huge legendary war featuring all Power Rangers and other unknown ones due to the footage being originally produced by the Japanese for their Gokaiger show. Maybe Tommy will only fight as the green ranger while his other forms will be spirits that he calls upon for the war.

I really hope that Tommy’s most recent appearance will be acknowledged during his return. He was previously seen in Disney’s Power Rangers Dino Thunder in 2004 where he was a high school science teacher known as Dr. O with a doctorate degree in Paleontology. It would be nice if the current writers pick up where the Disney writers left off. At least mention it a bit so we know whether he is still a teacher or has switched careers since then. What has good ol’ Tommy been up to these days?

Anna Hutchison & Rose McIver Filming "Blinder" (2013) Movie

2012-04-26T01:04:00.000-07:00

Anna Hutchison and Rose McIver are currently filming for the Australian film Blinder which will be released some time in 2013. Both actresses are well known among Power Rangers fans for their previous yellow ranger roles. Hutchison played Lily Chilman in Power Rangers Jungle Fury (2008) and McIver played Summer Landsdown in the following season Power Rangers RPM (2009). Is it a coincidence that these two Power Rangers alumni are the lead actresses in the upcoming Aussie movie? For some of us, let's consider this a small version of the Jungle Fury-RPM team-up that we never got to see! (sarcasm)

Yellow Jungle Fury Ranger

Yellow RPM Ranger

Blinder is a football movie, particularly AFL (Australian Football League) or Aussie Rules football. According to IF.com.au, the story is about an ex football player (played by Oliver Ackland) who returns home to clear his name after getting involved in a scandal. He also reignites an old flame. Anna Hutchison and Rose McIver will be playing as sisters in the film.

Filming started in February in Torquay and will wrap up in Boston, Massachusetts in May.

Samuell Benta's Operation Overdrive Theme Song - Disney Rejected

2011-09-10T18:37:00.000-07:00

Before Power Rangers Operation Overdrive (season 15) aired in 2007, Samuell Benta created and submitted his own song to the list of demos to be considered as the theme song for the show. Benta was also a Rap music artist in addition to being an actor in Britain. However, Disney rejected his "Operation Overdrive" track and chose another demo instead.

I don't think his chorus is that bad compared to the official Overdrive theme song. He can sing better too. It would have been nice if the song was used at least once in the entire season somewhere (maybe in a focus-episode about his character Will?). One of the reasons why I think Disney did not select his song is because of lyrics such as "Black ranger 'cause I'm black!" and "This ain't a program on Sci Fi!" Samuell Benta is the 2nd actor to be black and play a black ranger. Walter Emanuel Jones was the 1st with his role as Zack the Mighty Morphin Black Ranger. There was a controversy way back during the first season of Power Rangers about the black ranger being black and the yellow ranger being yellow (Asian). Disney probably didn't think of it much when they cast Benta as the Black Overdrive Ranger. The lyrics from his song probably brought it to their attention and thus, they figured that there was no way they could use Benta's song without creating a controversy. Hence, the final selection of another song. Either way, they are both rap songs that sound too terrible to be the official theme song of the Operation Overdrive season. Power Rangers has used mostly Rock songs in the past and it makes sense because the show is action-packed which goes really well with the high energy of Rock-style music.

You can listen to Benta's "Operation Overdrive" track below:

Saban Registers PowerRider.Org

Photo Courtesy of GoseiYellow from RangerCrew

News has broken that Saban Entertainment recently registered the domain "PowerRider.Org", but there is currently no working link to the site as it is could be under construction at the moment. Our sources come from Liam of the Henshin Justice Unlimited forums. To those who are wondering why Saban didn't register "PowerRider.Com", this domain is already taken. Hence, the alternative .org instead. The acronym "org" is to define sites for organizations (usually non-profit) while "com" is for commercial organizations/companies. However, Saban Brands/Entertainment is all about money and so is his company, so I won't be surprised if they eventually switch to ".com" when that domain becomes available. As for the current ".org", I don't think Mr. Haim Saban would get in trouble for using the .org. It's probably just a name extension that mostly identifies with non-profit organizations, but doesn't necessarily have to be restricted to them. Profit organizations can use it too, but it's more preferable to use .com since that name mostly identifies with profit companies.

Saban's POWER RIDER - The Next Kamen Rider Adaptation?

2011-08-03T21:22:00.001-07:00

It has been announced that Saban Brands filed a trademark for the name, "Power Rider." The request document can be found on the United States Patent and Trademark Office website. Shout out to username Poweranimals from Rangerboard and Rangercrew for sharing the news and link.

Many PR fans believe that this could be a working title for the next Kamen Rider adaptation due to the word "rider." Others predict that Haim Saban might actually go with the "Power Rider" name and adapt Kamen Rider Decade since the character appeared in the Shinkenger/Decade crossover footage that was obtained for PR Samurai from Toei. This nicely sets things up for Power Rangers Samurai to introduce Decade to the audience and give him a spin-off show just like what happened with the Masked Rider/Mighty Morphin Power Rangers crossover years ago in the 90's. It would be Saban's 2nd time adapting Kamen Rider and would be the 3rd adaptation overall in America. The 2nd and most recent one was Kamen Rider Dragon Knight from Adness Entertainment and the first was Saban's Masked Rider, of course.

Given that Masked Rider and Dragon Knight were commercial failures (although KRDK was a success in Japan), I will give Power Rider a chance...that is, if Saban really is making an adaptation. 3rd time's a charm right? I would think that people would learn from the past Kamen Rider adaptation mistakes by now and hopefully make the show successful this time around. However, if this new trademark name has nothing to do with Kamen Rider, maybe it's just a name for the Samurai Rangers' bikes as some fans think. Get it? Power Rider....Power Rangers riding on motorcycles called Power Riders!

Christopher Khayman Lee - NEW LOOK 2006

2011-07-25T17:25:00.001-07:00

Hey everyone! I was just surfing around on the RangerCrew forums and I stumbled across a picture of Christopher Khayman Lee that someone posted. Yep, that's right. He played Andros the Red Space Ranger in Power Rangers in Space and this is what he probably looks like nowadays. I did some research and found out that the photo is from the set of an independent film production called "Miles From Home" with Chris being the assistant producer. The film won Awards at the 2006 Independent Black Film Festival. Don't know if he still has the long hair now, but you can see his ponytail in another photo on their Myspace page. I didn't recognize him at first until I read people's thread posts. He has gotten bigger since we last saw him on Forever Red. I noticed he gained a few pounds when watching the episode back then, but now he's put on a lot more weight. There are people on the forum site stating rumors such as Christopher being a fanatic who is addicted to X-men video games and that he really believes he is the reincarnation of some vampire. I'd love to see him make an appearance along with his other Space ranger co-stars at a convention one of these days! We need to give him some motivation to get back into acting. Maybe he could possibly return to Power Rangers in the future either as Andros for guest appearances or a new character similar to Ricardo Medina Jr. returning to play the evil Deker instead of Cole Evans the Red Wild Force Ranger.

The Official Saban's Power Rangers Youtube channel finally posted a 30-minute video of the Samurai cast panel at the 2011 Comic Con San Diego! Paul Schrier (Bulk) hosted a one-on-one interview with the rangers and then a Q&A from the fans. There were a lot of interesting questions and it's so nice to see Hector David Jr. (Mike/Green Ranger) act so outgoing and connecting with the fans with his PR knowledge. Power Rangers Samurai - Bulk RETURNS!!

2011-02-01T15:53:00.000-08:00

There has been many rumors floating around when Saban Brands announced that it would have "Surprise Castings" for the upcoming Samurai season. Some sources have led fans to believe that Paul Schrier and Ricardo Medina Jr. are going to return to Power Rangers once again. We recently discovered from Saban's announcements that Paul is reprising his comedic role as Bulk from the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers! He is the last original cast member to leave the original season and is the 3rd MMPR member to reprise his role. The 1st was Jason David Frank, who reprised his role as the legendary Tommy Oliver in the Dino Thunder season, and the 2nd was Johnny Yong Bosch, who reprised his role as Adam Park for the 15th anniversary special in the Operation Overdrive season. Although Bulk won't be part of the main Samurai cast, he will be a recurring character who spends his time teaching his nephew Spike. Who is Spike anyways? Well, he is none other than the son of Bulk's best friend Skull!! They do look extremely alike. Many fans wonder is Kimberly Hart is the mother of Skull's son, but that would mean that Skull had to have gotten the girl pregnant in high school. We all know Kim is smarter than that right? Maybe it's not her after all. As far as the rumors go for Ricardo Medina Jr., the actor who played Red Ranger Cole Evans in PR Wild Force, we don't know if he's been casted for sure. Even is he was casted, would he reprise his role or play as a new character? This just gets more interesting because we all want to see how Saban makes Ricardo's character look different than when he was on Wild Force. Anyways, be sure to take a look at these previews of the one and only "Bulk," Bulkmeier!

What If Tommy Oliver Was Red Zeo Ranger in Dino Thunder?

If Tommy still had his Zeonizer morpher, then he could've used it to morph and help out his students, Conner, Kira, & Ethan in Power Rangers Dino Thunder. In fact, he could have fought off Zeltrax and Tyrannodrones as they tried to kidnap him in front of Hayley's Cyber Cafe. Even after the kidnapping, Tommy could've summoned his Zeo weapons to battle Mesogog in the evil lair. With the Zeo flying power-kick, most of the lab equipment would surely be blown to pieces and Mesogog would no longer be able to create monsters & make them grow. The villains in this season would become a piece of cake for the Dino rangers to defeat and Tommy wouldn't need to become Black ranger. As epic as it seems, there's probably a good reason why the Zeo morpher wasn't used.

Maybe it served as a basis for the Dino Thunder morphers? Or maybe Tommy lost it in the lab explosion in the 1st episode when he jumped off of the island? Maybe he locked it away in a secret place because he thought his ranger days were over? No one knows the answer. People still wonder "What actually happened to the Red Zeo Ranger powers?" Well, it was last used in the "Forever Red" team-up anniversary in Wild Force and Tommy Oliver seemed to morph and fight as Zeo Red just fine.

Years later, in the Dino Thunder ep. "Fighting Spirit," Tommy laid unconscious in a hospital bed. In his mind, he was forced to fight his 3 past ranger forms (Red Turbo not included as this power was given to T.J.). Keep in mind that these are spirits and they aren't real. The Red Zeo Ranger showed up 1st and said, "Hello Tommy. Remember me? Zeo Ranger 5...Don't tell me you've forgotten already." Tommy replied, "But that's impossible." So...does that mean the Red Zeo powers no longer exist?

If that's the case, then that leaves people to question, "When was it destroyed, and how?" It's probably for the best that this mystery remains unsolved so that everyone can make their own assumptions. Hmmm...I really wonder if Tommy is just afraid that people will remember the embarrassing thing he did as Zeo Ranger 5 back in the day (bottom right picture). He must really be ashamed of himself ever since! It must have been all that hype over creating Dino Thunder morphers, weapons, and zords for his new team of rangers. Imagine how much money he blew off on this craze. If only he was the Bruce Wayne of Power Rangers, then things wouldn't have been so complicated. Why didn't he just ask Wesley Collins, the Red Time Force ranger, for money? The guy is rich and has a mansion!

I think there could've been an episode created in which Tommy tries to morph with his broken Zeonizer, just as Adam Park tried using his broken morpher to become the Black Mastodon Ranger once again in the PR in Space episode, "Always a Chance." The effects of such an act would be disastrous & the event would be a magnificent addition to PR history. That episode would allow writers of the show to make Tommy explain how the Zeo morpher got damaged after "Forever Red." However, if no one likes that story, maybe Tommy can explain how the morpher is too old and is drained of its powers?

All in all, whether the Red Zeo morpher was lost, transformed, or destroyed, the real fate rests in the hands of Tommy Oliver. His past ranger duties are now memories that he has left behind as he officially retires from being a Power Ranger. Unless, of course, the world is in desperate need of his help once again. Who knows? Things change...but for now, he can finally move on to living a simple life as a high school science teacher.
