Temporarily out on bail in 1970, she became pregnant with Tupac but was forced to return to jail when several codefendants skipped town. At trial in May 1971, she successfully defended herself; she then gave birth to Tupac in June. “My embryo was in prison,” he later chuckled.

2 His first and middle name mean “shining serpent.”
He was named Tupac Amaru, after a freedom-fighting eighteenth-century Incan chief whose body was torn apart by Spanish imperialists. Shakur means thankful to God in Arabic.

3 He was a playa early on.
“I was fucking white girls,” he recalled years later of his teen years at the Baltimore School for the Arts, a Fame-like performing arts high school. Once, he promised sex to a gay male student named Eskiah if he’d help Tupac land a hard-to-get girl named Kelly. Eskiah made it happen, but Tupac reneged: “After I bust my nut, Eskiah was like, ‘When’s my turn?…’ I told him, ‘You must be out of your fuckin’ mind.’”

4 He was an actor and ballet dancer before he was a rapper.
After moving to Maryland with his mother and younger sister in 1984, Tupac was accepted into the Baltimore School for the Arts, where he majored in drama and studied dance. He began battle rhyming on the side, nicknaming himself MC New York.

5 He was very, very poor…
Actress Jada Pinkett Smith, his schoolmate in Baltimore, remembers, “When I met Tupac, he owned two pairs of pants and two sweaters. He slept on a mattress with no sheets.”

6 …Which added to his youthful idealism.
Tupac suggested in an early interview that President Reagan could alleviate the nation’s homeless problem by opening the doors of the White House to the homeless.

7 He got his start as a backup rapper and dancer for Digital Underground.
His friend Leila Steinberg scored him an audience with MC Shock G in 1989. G remembers that Tupac’s audition was “street, it was educated, it was articulate. I was like, ‘Damn, this cat’s intense!’ ”

8 He couldn’t stand bootleggers.
On a trip to New York, he spied a bootlegged copy of Digital Underground’s This Is an E.P. Release on a street merchant’s stand, and toppled the rack in a rage. “You’re robbing from me!” he yelled.

9 He hated Republicans.
Democrat Michael Dukakis’s presidential defeat in 1988 dismayed him: “I don’t want George Bush in government,” he said. “I’ve spent eight of my 17 years on this earth under a Republican, Ronald Reagan, who’s an ex-actor who lies to the people, and who has done nothing for me at all.”

10 And Dan Quayle hated him.
Extolling his “family values” platform in 1992, Quayle said Tupac’s debut album, 2Pacalypse Now, had “no place in our society.” The vice president castigated Time Warner, the parent company of Interscope Records, and the label was soon dropped from the Time Warner fold.

11 He had unlikely taste in music.
Tupac’s record collection included CDs by Kate Bush, Sarah McLachlan and Don McLean, and the soundtrack to Les Misérables — whose theme he once called his all-time favorite song.

12 He once fired an AK-47 into his sofa.
After 2Pacalypse Now was released in 1991, Shock G visited Tupac at home and was shocked to find his windows open despite the gold records on the wall. Tupac said he wasn’t scared of robbers. “He went to his closet,” Shock G recalled, “showed me his first AK and said, ‘If somebody comes up in here…’ Brrrap! He shot the floor and the sofa up and damn near killed a couple of kids who were sitting on the couch!”

13 He was a workaholic.
He recorded 67 tracks in 11 months during the making of 1995’s All Eyez on Me; overall, he left some 200 unreleased tracks behind him. “Tupac Shakur was the hardest-working man in hip-hop,” Shock G declares.

14 He shot two Atlanta police officers one Halloween.
Involved in a dispute between two off-duty police officers and a black motorist in 1993, Tupac wound up shooting the officers, claiming self-defense. During the trial, it was discovered that the cops had been drinking and had initiated the incident. Criminal charges against Tupac were dropped.

15 You could say he didn’t like cops much.
When an interviewer asked him whether he felt remorse for police officers killed in the line of duty, he pretended to sob before barking, “No! They can all motherfuckin’ die, until they respect me as a motherfuckin’ man, and every black man out there.”

16 Janet Jackson was afraid he had HIV.
Before shooting any kissing scenes for John Singleton’s 1993 film Poetic Justice — Tupac’s second star turn after Juice — he said his costar insisted he take an HIV test. He countered that he would take the test only if Jackson would sleep with him.

17 He took five bullets in 1994.
Two men armed with 9-mm pistols robbed Tupac of $40,000 in jewelry in the lobby of a New York recording studio, shooting him five times, once through the head. He was rushed to a hospital but checked himself out the next evening, fearing for his safety.

18 One of the bullets had penetrated his scrotum.
The night of the shooting, Tupac looked at his boxers, “saw a hole and went, ‘Oh, shit. Roll me some weed.’ ” But he swore he didn’t lose a testicle, despite rumors (and jokes that he was now only 1Pac). “My doctors are like, ‘You can have babies,’ ” he said. “It went through the skin and out the skin.”

19 He was convicted of sexual abuse the next day.
Ayanna Jackson, a 19-year-old girl Tupac had met in a nightclub, told police that he and two of his friends pinned her to a hotel bed and sodomized and raped her in 1993. Tupac vigorously denied it, claiming he hadn’t even been in the room. In court in a wheelchair, he was cleared of sodomy and weapons charges but sentenced to one and a half to four and a half years in prison for sexual abuse.

20 He hadn’t really met his father until the shooting.
Billy Garland, who hadn’t seen Tupac since he was 5, came to visit him in the hospital. Tupac considered his stepfather, Mutulu Shakur — a Black Panther serving a 60-year sentence for conspiracy to commit armed robbery and murder — his real father.

21 He suffered from depression.
“He couldn’t function sober,” Shock G says. “There had to be some weed there, had to be some Hennessy there. He wasn’t so happy — a lot of his laughter was forced.” “All around I felt suicidal,” Tupac once said. “But I couldn’t kill myself. I just wanted somebody to kill me for me.”

22 He suspected that P. Diddy and Notorious B.I.G. had set him up.
While imprisoned for sexual abuse, Tupac heard whispers that his former friends — who he had seen at the recording studio the night he was shot — had arranged the New York ambush. Biggie denied it and demanded an apology from Tupac, while Diddy said, “If I’m-a set a nigga up, which I would never do, I ain’t gonna be in the country. I’m-a be in Bolivia somewhere.”

23 Suge Knight got him out of jail. Not for free.
The six-foot-four, 315-pound Death Row Records executive posted $1.4 million in bail for Tupac, springing him after 11 months while he appealed his sentence. In exchange, Tupac signed a handwritten recording contract from his cell, flew to L.A. and started recording All Eyez on Me. “A deal with the devil,” said Tupac’s onetime bodyguard Henry Fayson. Eyez, hip-hop’s first double CD, would become Tupac’s best-selling album and spawn his first number 1 single, the Dr. Dre–produced “California Love.”

24 A glass of piss fueled the growing Death Row/Bad Boy rivalry.
Two months after Tupac joined Death Row, P. Diddy’s associate Mark Bell claimed that Tupac and Knight assaulted and beat him. Tupac pressed him for Diddy’s home address, Bell maintains, while Knight urinated into a cup and forced him to drink it.

25 Tupac’s 1996 murder is still unsolved.
Former Los Angeles Police detective Russell Poole and former officer Kevin Hackie told filmmaker Nick Broomfield that Suge Knight — who, they assert, owed Tupac millions in unpaid royalties — orchestrated the Las Vegas killing. Journalist Chuck Philips maintains that Biggie paid gang member Orlando Anderson to take Tupac out.

26 He was engaged to Quincy Jones’S daughter when he died.
Despite having publicly chastised the legendary producer/arranger for “sticking his dick” in a white woman (Jones’s wife, Peggy Lipton), Tupac reconciled with him, started dating his daughter Kidada and soon proposed to her.

27 He and Madonna were friends. maybe more than friends…
In his tell-all biography, Got Your Back, Tupac’s former bodyguard Frank Alexander suggests the two slept together: “We were watching a talk show, and they flashed a picture of [Madonna’s ex-boyfriend] Carlos Leon and Madonna walking into a New York building on the screen. ’Pac said, ‘You know, that used to be me.’ ”

28 He is Eminem’s idol.
“Tupac was the greatest songwriter who ever lived,” Marshall Mathers said in 2000.

29 He suffered from premature baldness.
That’s why he shaved his head.

30 He has released more ALbums in death than he did in life.
Of the 10 solo CDs he has released, six have come from beyond the grave — and those stand certified 23 times platinum.

31 He and Biggie recorded a song together.
In August 1994, they teamed up on an Easy Mo Bee–produced song, “Runnin.” An Eminem-produced version of the song appears on the newly released Tupac: Resurrection soundtrack.

32 Funeralgoers poured cognac into the Pacific Ocean in his memory.
After six days in critical condition, Tupac died on September 13, 1996. At a private funeral ceremony held in Malibu, California, his friends tossed necklaces, packs of Newports and bottles of Hennessy into the ocean.

33 He’s really dead.
His first posthumous release, in 1996, came under the pseudonym Makaveli, after the Italian theorist who suggested faking one’s death to beat one’s enemies. That, along with an Elvis-worthy host of tabloid sightings, is all the proof needed for conspiracy theorists that ’Pac never died. His longtime publicist Karen Lee waves off such speculation: “He couldn’t have been quiet this long.”

2Pac interview from 1991

Davey D: Give a little bit of background on yourself. What got you into hip hop?

2Pac: I’m from the Bronx, NY. I moved to Baltimore where I spent some high school years and then I came to Oaktown. As for hip hop…all my travels through these cities seemed to be the common denominator.

Davey D: 2Pac… Is that your given name or is that your rap name?

Davey D: You lived In Marin City for a little while. How was your connection with hip hop able to be maintained while living there? Was there a thriving hip hop scene in Marin City?

2Pac: Not really..You were just given truth to the music. Being in Marin City was like a small town so it taught me to be more straight forward with my style. Instead of of being so metaphorical with the rhyme where i might say something like…

I’m the hysterical, lyrical miracle
I’m the hypothetical, incredible…

I was encouraged to go straight at it and hit it dead on and not waste time trying to cover things…

Davey D:Why was that?

2Pac In Marin City it seemed like things were real country. Everything was straight forward. Poverty was straight forward. There was no way to say I’m poor, but to say ‘I’m po’…we had no money and that’s what influenced my style.

Davey D: How did you hook up with Digital Underground?

2Pac: I caught the ‘D-Flow Shuttle’ while I was in Marin City. It was the way out of here. Shock G was the conductor.

Davey D: What’s the D-Flow Shuttle?

2Pac:The D-Flow Shuttle is from the album ‘Sons of the P‘ It was the way to escape out of the ghetto. It was the way to success. I haven’t gotten off since…

pacshock_0_0_0x0_350x369

Davey D: Now let’s put all that in laymen’s terms

2Pac: Basically I bumped into this kid named Greg Jacobs aka Shock G and he hooked me up with Digital Underground and from there I hooked up with Money B… and from there Money B hooked me up with his step mamma… and from there me and his step mamma started making beats…[laughter] Me and his step mamma got a little thing jumping off. We had a cool sound, but Shock asked me if I wanted a group. I said ‘Yeah but I don’t wanna group with Money B’s step momma ’cause she’s gonna try and take all the profits… She wants to go out there and be like the group ‘Hoes with Attitude’, but I was like ‘Naw I wanna be more serious and represent the young black male’.

So Shock says we gotta get rid of Money B’s step mamma. So we went to San Quentin [prison] and ditched her in the ‘Scared Straight’ program…[laughter. After that Shock put me in the studio and it was on..This is a true story so don't say anything.. It's a true story. And to Mon's step mamma I just wanna say 'I'm sorry, but a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. I'm sorry but it was Shock's idea-Bertha.. but don't worry she can get her half of the profits from the first cut after she finishes doing her jail time. [laughter]

Davey D: What’s the concept behind your album 2Pacalypse Now’?

2Pac: The concept is the young Black male. Everybody’s been talkin’ about it but now it’s not important. It’s like we just skipped over it.. It’s no longer a fad to be down for the young Black male. Everybody wants to go past. Like the gangster stuff, it just got exploited. This was just like back in the days with the movies. Everybody did their little gun shots and their hand grenades and blew up stuff and moved on. Now everybody’s doing rap songs with the singing in it.. I’m still down for the young Black male. I’m gonna stay until things get better. So it’s all about addressing the problems that we face in everyday society.

Davey D: What are those problems?

2Pac: Police brutality, poverty, unemployment, insufficient education, disunity and violence, black on black crime, teenage pregnancy, crack addiction. Do you want me to go on?

Davey D: How do you address these problems? Are you pointing them out or are you offering solutions?

2Pac: I do both. In some situations I show us having the power and in some situations I show how it’s more apt to happen with the police or power structure having the ultimate power. I show both ways. I show how it really happens and I show how I wish it would happen .

Davey D: You refer to yourself as the ‘Rebel of the Underground’ Why so?

2Pac: Cause, as if Digital Underground wasn’t diverse enough with enough crazy things in it, I’m even that crazier. I’m the rebel totally going against the grain…I’m the lunatic that everyone refers to. I always want to do the extreme. I want to get as many people looking as possible. For example I would’ve never done the song ‘Kiss U Back’ that way.I would’ve never done a song like that-That’s why I’m the rebel.

2Pacsmile

Davey D: Can talk about your recent encounter with police brutality at the hands of the Oakland PD?

2Pac:We’re letting the law do its job. It’s making its way through the court system.. We filed a claim…

Davey D: Recount the incident for those who don’t know.

2Pac:For everyone who doesn’t know, I, an innocent young black male was walking down the streets of Oakland minding my own business and the police department saw fit for me to be trained or snapped back into my place. So they asked for my I-D and sweated me about my name because my name is ‘Tupac’. My final words to them was ‘f— y’all’ . Next thing I know I was in a choke hold passing out with cuffs on headed for jail for resisting arrest. Yes.. you heard right-I was arrested for resisting arrest.

Davey D:Where is all this now?

2Pac: We’re in the midst of having a ten million dollar law suit against the Oakland Police Department. If I win and get the money, then the Oakland Police department is going to buy a boys home, me a house, my family a house and a ‘Stop Police Brutality Center’ and other little odd things like that..

Davey D:In the video for the song ‘Trapped‘ do you think that would’ve had the police want to treat you aggressively? After all, the video is very telling especially in the un-edited version where you have a cop get shot.

2Pac: Well the ironic thing is the cops I came across in that incident didn’t know about that video. The second thing is that everything I said in that video happened to me. The video happened before the incident. In the video I show how the cops sweat me and ask for my ID and how I can’t go anywhere…

Davey D:Let’s talk about the movie ‘Juice’. How did you get involved? Where’s it at? and what’s it about?

2Pac: MMM what led me? Well, we have the Freaky Deaky Money B and Sleuth [raod manager for DU]. Money B had an audition for the movie Sleuth [road manager] suggested I also come along so I went. Money B read the script and said to me’ this sounds like you- a rebel. he was talking about this character named Bishop. I went in cold turkey, read, God was with me…

Davey D:Have you ever had acting experience before?

2Pac: Actually I went to the school of Performing arts in Baltimore and that’s where I got my acting skills.

Davey D:Ok so you weren’t a novice when you went up there… So what’s the movie about?

2Pac:The movie is about 4 kids and their coming of age.

Davey D:Is it a Hip Hop movie?

2Pac:No, it’s not a hip hop movie. It’s a real good movie that happens to have hip hop in it. If it was made in the 60s it would’ve depicted whatever was ‘down’ in the 60s…My character is Roland Bishop, a psychotic, insecure very violent, very short tempered individual.

Davey D:What’s the message you hope is gotten out of the movie?

2Pac: You never know what’s going on in somebody’s mind. There are a lot of things that add up. There’s a lot of pressure on someone growing up. You have to watch it if it goes unchecked. This movie was an example of what can happen…

Davey D:Can you explain what you mean by this?

2Pac:In the movie my character’s, father was a prison whore and that was something that drove him through the whole movie…

Davey D: This was something that wasn’t shown in the movie?

2Pac: Yes, they deleted this from the film. Anyway this just wrecked his [Bishop's] mind. You can see through everybody else’s personality, Bishop just wanted to get respect. He wanted the respect that his father didn’t get. Everthing he did, he did just to get a rep. So from those problems never being dealt with led to him ending four people’s lives.

Davey D:Do you intend on continuing making movies?

2Pac: It depends on whether or not there are any good parts. I want to challenge myself.

Davey D:What is your philosophy on hip hop? I’ve heard you say you don’t to see it diluted?

2Pac: Well when I said that, it made me think. It brought me to myself. Now I have a different philosophy. Hip Hop when it started it was supposed to be this new thing that had no boundaries and was so different to everyday music. Now it seems like I was starting to get caught up in the mode of what made hip hop come about. I would walk around and hear something and start saying ‘That’s not Hip Hop’. If someone started singing, I would walk around and say ‘That’s not Hip Hop’. Well, now I’ve changed my mind. That could be Hip Hop.As long as the music has the true to the heart soul it can be hip hop. As long it has soul to it, hip hop can live on.

Davey D:I guess my question would be, how do you determine what’s soul and what isn’t?

2Pac: Well you can tell. The difference between a hit like ‘Make You Dance’ [C&C Music Factory] and ‘My Mind Is Playing Tricks On Me’ [Geto Boys]. You have to ask yourself, ‘Which song moves you’.

Davey D: Well actually both. Both songs move me

2Pac: Really? well… ok there you go

Davey D:So they both would be Hip Hop, right?

2Pac:I guess so, at least in your opinion. ‘The Make You Dance’ song didn’t move me. But the Geto Boys song did move me

Davey D:Well for the record Bambaataa says both of them are Hip Hop. I asked him what he thought about groups like C&C Music Factory. He said they were part of the Hip Hop family…But that’s his philosophy on things. So what’s your plans for the next year or so?

2Pac: To strengthen the Underground Railroad. I have a crew called the Underground Railroad and a program called the Underground Railroad…I wanna build all this up, so that by next year you will know the name Underground Railroad…

Davey D:So what’s the concept behind The Underground Railroad?

2Pac:The concept behind this is the same concept behind Harriet Tubman, to get my brothers who might be into drug dealing or whatever it is thats illegal or who are disenfranchised by today’s society-I want to get them back into by turning them onto music. It could be R&B, hip hop or pop, as long as I can get them involved. While I’m doing that, I’m teaching them to find a love for themselves so they can love others and do the same thing we did for them to others.

Davey D: How many people in the Underground Railroad? Is it a group that intends to keep constantly evolving? Also where are the people who are a part of Underground Railroad coming from?

2Pac: Right now we’re twenty strong. The group is going to be one that constantly evolves. The people that are in the UR are coming from all over, Baltimore, Marin City, Oakland, New York, Richmond-all over.

Davey D: What do you think of the Bay Area rap scene compared to other parts of the country?

2Pac: Right now the Bay Area is how the Bronx was in 1981. Everybody is hot. They caught the bug. Everybody is trying to be creative and make their own claim. New York just got to a point where you could no longer out due the next guy. So now you have this place where there isn’t that many people to out due. Here you can do something and if it’s good enough people will remember you. So that’s what’s happening. here in the Bay Area, it’s like a renaissance.

Davey D: In New York the renaissance era got stopped for a number of reasons in my opinion. What do you think will prevent that from happening in the Bay Area?

2Pac: Well at the risk of sounding biased, I say Digital Underground. They are like any other group. I’ll give that to Shock G. He made it so that everything Digital Underground does it helps the Bay Area music scene. It grows and goes to New York and hits people from all over the country. That helps the Bay Area. Our scene is starting to rub off on people. We want everyone to know about Oakland. When other groups come down, like Organized Konfusion or Live Squad and they kick it with Digital Underground, they get to see another side of the Bay Area music scene. It’s a different side then if they kicked it with that guy… I don’t wanna say his name, but you know who he is he dropped the ‘MC’ from his name [MC Hammer].

Davey D: So you think Digital Underground will be more strength to the Bay Area rap scene because they help bring national attention. What do you think other groups will have to do?

2Pac: What we have to do is not concentrate so much on one group. We have to focus more on the area. It’s not about just building up Too Short, Digital Underground and Tony Toni Tone and say; ‘That’s it. They’re the only groups that can come from the Bay Area’. We have to let the new groups come out. Nobody wants to give the new acts a chance. Everybody wants to only talk about Too Short and Digital Underground…We have to start talking about these other groups that are trying to come in that are coming up from the bottom.

Davey D: When you say ‘come up’ what do you mean by that?

2Pac: It’s like this. Instead of letting them do interviews where nobody ever reads them, let a good newspaper interview them. Instead of putting them on the radio when nobody is ever going to hear them or where nobody is going to hear them, have them where people can hear them and get at them where they had a better chance, just like if they were Mariah Carey.

Davey D: Do you find the Bay Area sound is being respected? Do you find that people are starting to accept it around the country?

2Pac: I feel that the Bay Area sound hasn’t even finished coming out. It’s starting to get respected more and more everyday.

Davey D: Your brother Moecedes is a rapper for the group Tony Toni Tone. What’s the story with him? Are you guys gonna team up?

2Pac: He’s in the Underground Railroad. He’s also about to come out with another guy named Dana.

Davey D: Who produced your album and are you into producing

2Pac: I co-produced it with the members of the Underground Railroad which is Shock G, Money B, Raw Fusion, Pee Wee, Jay-Z from Richmond, Stretch from the Live Squad. It’s really like a life thing-this Underground Railroad. It effects everything we do.

Davey D:Is there anything else we should know about Tupac?

2Pac: Yeah, the group Nothing Gold is coming. My kids are coming out with a serious message…NG is a group coming out that I produce.. All the stuff I say in my rhymes I say because of how I grew up. So to handle that, instead of going to a pyschiatrist, I got a kids group that deals with the problems a younger generation is going through. They put them into rhymes so it’s like a pyschology session set to music. It’ll make you come to grips with what you actually do..

Davey D: What do you mean by that? Are they preaching?

2Pac: No they’re just telling you straight up like Ice Cube or Scarface. They’re being blunt and it comes out of a kid’s mouth. If you’re a black man, you’re going to really trip out cause they really call you out and have you deal with them…NG will make us have responsibility again. Kids are telling you to have responsibility…

Davey D: What do you think of the current trends in Hip Hop like the gangsta rap, Afrocentric Rap, raggamuffin and the fusion of the singing and rap? Some people call it ‘pop rap’.

2Pac: I think all the real shit is gonna stay. It’s gonna go through some changes. It’s going through a metaphorphis so it will blow up sometimes and get real nasty and gritty, then the leeches will fall off and Hip Hop will be fit and healthy. Hip Hop has to go through all of that, but no one can make judgments until it’s over.

Davey D: What do you think the biggest enemies to Hip Hop are right now?

2Pac: Egotistical rappers. They don’t wanna open up their brain. Its foul when people are walking around saying things like; ‘Oakland is the only place where the real rappers come out. New York is the only place where the real rappers come out. They booty out there or they booty over there…’ All of that just needs to die or Hip Hop is gonna have problems. Its gonna be so immature. Thats just conflict in words. We can’t be immature we gotta grow.

Davey D: Cool I think we got enough out of you 2Pac.

2Pac: yes I think you got enough

Davey D: Peace.

Download MasterBeats

Masterbeat is an online music download service catering to those interested in Hip Hop, Dance music, Electronica music and Dance remixes. Relatively new to the music download scene, Masterbeat combines an attractive online user interface with an interesting mix of artists.

We liked that you could sample an unlimited number of songs in their entirety, unlike most services that limit samples to thirty seconds. We also liked the easy-to-use intuitive interface. The whole site is built using Flash which makes it very attractive.

Songs are available in a variety of formats including MP3, WMA and WAV. Most songs and albums are available in two of the three format options. Prices range from $.99 WMA tracks to $1.49-$1.99 MP3s to $2.99 WAV tracks. WAV is a high quality format and usually about $1 more than an MP3. All MP3s are available at a 320kbps bitrate. This is the only site we reviewed that offered this bitrate; it is the highest quality sound next to the original CD recording. WMA tracks include DRM protection, but MP3 tracks do not.

We found that Masterbeat only offers about 1.5 million songs, compared to our top three services that have more than 5-million-plus libraries. Some mainstream artists include Jennifer Hudson, Cyndi Lauper and Kelly Clarkson. However, Masterbeat specializes in smaller independent labels.

Masterbeat is a good option for those looking for independent rappers or Remixers. On the other hand, if you are looking for more mainstream top 40 tracks, see one of the top three services, iTunes, Napster, Amazon MP3.

For a fun and exciting way to put your music downloads to use, be sure and check out our DJ Software review site.

Download The Top 675 Hip-Hop/Rap Songs of All-Time

Download The Top 675 Hip-Hop/Rap Songs of All-Time
Within this collection I feel I have taken a slice of the best material from each region- East coast, west coast, down south, mid-west, etc., as well as from old-school, to golden age, to contemporary eras. Obviously this appeals to those who want beats to rap over or who want to create their own hip hop instrumentals using these beats. That's a great use of these beats and if that's what you are looking for then I definitely recommend you join a royalty free hip hop beats membership site now. But there's really a lot more ways of using these types of beats that may have nothing to do with hip hop or rap.

Guitar Practice

One great way you can use hip hop beats is for practicing your guitar playing. Don't you think it'll be a lot easier to "get into a groove" playing along a cool hip hop beat rather than just playing along with a metronome? Don't you think that will help you to unleash more of creativity? I know that I hate practicing guitar while using a metronome and I also don't always want to be playing along with a song. I prefer playing along with hip hop beats (sometimes I like to write my own riffs while I do this.) I think you may prefer it as well if you give it a chance.

Use Hip Hop Beats In Your Own Songs

While these beats may be intended for hip hop music, there's no reason you can't experiment with using these sorts of beats in your own rock or pop music. If you don't have a drummer then this is a great alternative. Plus you may find you end up with a more interesting sound than you would using a real drummer anyway. Try it out.

Beats 365

Beats 365 has 100,000 royalty free beats in 39 different styles/genres available for just a one time fee. These are beats that you can literally do anything you want with without paying any royalty fees. You basically buy the beats up front and then they are yours to do whatever you want with.

Stale Beats

The problem you may run into is that a lot of places will be selling very stale beats that may have sounded fresh in 1993 but sound very dated today. You're going to want to have access to the freshest beats.

Different Styles/Genres

Some websites that sell hip hop beats online only have a few different genres (or styles) to download. It's best to go to a site that has a large selection of styles so that you can be sure you can find exactly what you are looking for.

Selection

There are some sites that only have a few hundred beats to choose from. That's no good. You may not find what you are looking for with a smaller selection. Or you may end up using the exact same beats as a lot of other people. This will make it much harder to stand out in the crowd.

Beats 365

Beats 365 has 100,000 royalty free beats in 39 different styles/genres available for just a one time fee. Trina and Martin were in the country for a Hip-Hop peace rally and charity basketball game.

According to reports, the accident occured shortly after they arrived at Belize's airport.

The pair were traveling with a police motorcade in a Ford Excursion on Northern Highway, when a minivan struck the side of the SUV.

Both Trina and Martin were in the backseat of the SUV when the accident occurred and escaped injuries.

"Trina was in a small fender bender in Belize, yesterday on her way from the airport to a charity basketball event this weekend," Trina's publicist Krystle Coleman said in a statement. "She is currently fine, and 'extremely thankful' that no one was hurt in the small car accident. She is looking forward to the rest of her weekend on vacation and thankful for everyone's safety."

The driver of the minivan, George Abraham, suffered minor injuries but his 12 and nine year- old-sons sustained injuries more severe.

In an interview after the accident with Belize's Local 7 News, Abraham accused Trina and Martin's driver of being in the wrong.

“I was on my right hand side and this vehicle overtake on this side," Abraham said. "That guy was in the wrong in that vehicle. I was on my correct hand. 'Ahh my shoulder.'”

Other witnesses said the police motorcade was so large, that oncoming traffic was forced to swerve to the sides on a narrow stretch of the road.

“Bringing in such a huge figure within the NBA, we thought that it would just add some level of our thoughts and what it meant having them coming into our country and we wanted to show them with humbleness what it is that it means to us as Belizeans and also – everybody’s been expecting them,” organizer Diane Finnegan told Local 7 News.

Police are investigating the accident, as well as if the motorcade for Trina and Kenyon Martin was officially sanctioned.

“Freeway” Ricky Ross Speaks On Rapper Rick Ross

Incarcerated former drug kingpin “Freeway” Ricky Ross has decided to break his silence on the recent revelations into the past of the rapper that bears his name, Miami artist Rick Ross. Since the rapper’s debut, many have wondered of a possible connection, since the artist not only bears the name of the former kingpin, but also sports a similar beard and cites stories of extensive drug and criminal activity in his rhymes.

Now that the rapper, real name William Roberts, has been confirmed to have worked as a correction officer, the original Ricky Ross tells that he attempted to steer his rap counterpart away from public embarrassment.

“After seeing all the stuff that has been going on with the Correctional Officer (William Roberts) that stole my name, [it] makes me think back to a year and a half ago when we spoke,” Ross explained. “I tried to talk to him like a big brother and let him know to be you, and that he couldn’t be me. And that if he wanted to rap the lifestyle that he couldn’t frame it based on my life.”

Roberts has repeatedly denied that he based his music persona on the real Ross’ criminal exploits.

Ross, who today regrets the actions that helped destroy his community and land him in prison, can only shake his head at the unnecessary predicament Roberts has put himself in.

“How different his life would have been if he would have taken my advice,” Ross reflected. “You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all the people all the time.”

In the early and mid 80’s, Ross controlled most of the Los Angeles drug trade, and had ties to the Iran-Contra scandal due to his suppliers.

In 1996 Ross was sentenced to life in prison for attempting to purchase over 100 kilos from a federal agent.

He successfully appealed and had his sentence reduced to 20 years.

Ross is scheduled to be released on August 13, 2010.

Rapper Gucci Mane Arrested, Alleged DUI

Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane is out on bail today after a traffic stop resulted in his arrest early Wednesday morning (Jul 23) just south of Atlanta. The Atlantic Records recording artist, born Radric Davis, was taken into custody by Henry County Police officers following a routine traffic stop. While details of the arrest were not available at press time, a subsequent search of Gucci's vehicle yielded a small amount of marijuana. The rapper was also found to be under the influence of drugs.

Gucci Mane was taken to the Henry County Jail in McDonough, GA at 6:00am, where he was booked under charges of Driving Under the Influence of drugs, possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

He was released approximately three hours later, after posting a $3,356 bond.

The Game Denies Dissing Eminem, Proof

Days after a leaked version of his song "My Life" surfaced on the Internet, The Game is setting the record straight over speculation on whether or not he dissed fellow rapper Eminem and Proof. "My Life" is one of the song’s featured on the Compton, California rapper’s forthcoming album L.A.X.

Since the song’s release, talk has centered on a portion of track, which features Lil Wayne, where The Game rhymes:

"You see them 24’s spinning, I earned ‘em/and all the pictures of me and Em/I burned them/ So there ain't no proof I walked through 8 Mile/ And so since it ain't no Proof, I'll never walk through 8 Mile.”

Although some believe, the rapper’s remarks were aimed at Eminem and possibly Proof, The Game is quick to say "My Life’s" real meaning has nothing to do with disrespecting anyone mentioned in the song.

"When I originally wrote the song ‘My Life,’ I was trying to think back on events that affected my life and how they changed me," The Game said in a statement, citing Dr. Dre, Eminem and Proof among those he met when he first got signed to Aftermath and G-Unit Records.

"But it was Proof whom the Game bonded with most. I always identified with Proof. We were always cool and he would reach out to me when ever I was going through something," The Game said of his relationship with the deceased Detroit rapper, who was shot and killed on April 11.

"I remember when Proof died vividly and now every time I think about going to Detroit I get depressed,” The Game said. “That is what I was trying to say in that verse and the more I looked at I realized that people would take it the wrong way…the way they are taking it now that it leaked."

Despite efforts to make changes to the song and take out the questionable verse "so that this bulls**t wouldn’t happen," the Game couldn’t escape the fallout over what he recorded.

Nevertheless, fans will get a different version of "My Life" when L.A.X. is released. The rapper and Lil Wayne recently finished shooting a video for the song.

"For the record, this is not the version on my album, this is not the version that radio will get and this is not the version that I just shot the video to," The Game said, acknowledging those who may have been negatively impacted by "My Life."

"Furthermore, I apologize to anyone who took this the wrong way as that was never my intention," The Game said.

The Game’s L.A.X. is slated to hit stores on Aug. 26.<div infringement and unfair competition suit filed a Manhattan court on Thursday (July 24).
The owners of portions of the Rolling Stones' catalogue are seeking unspecified damages for what they say is the rapper’s unauthorized use of the song "Play With Fires," by creating a song by the same title.

According to Reuters, Abkco Music Inc. accuses Wayne, born Dwayne Carter, those with whom he collaborated on the track, and Cash Money Records, of releasing an altered version of the Stones' recording, borrowing too closely from the song's original lyrics and music.

One example cited is Lil Wayne‘s use of the line "but you can't blame me if I set this stage on fire," which Abkco says is too similar to "but don't play with me, 'cause you're playing with fire" from the original.

Abkco also takes issue with what they call "explicit, sexist and offensive language" used on Wayne's "Play With Fire," which appears on his latest release Tha Carter III.

The company states in it's suit that the similarities between the two versions could lead audiences to believe that Abkco and the Rolling Stones approved the alleged "remake."

This is the second lawsuit levied against Lil' Wayne this year, for a track featured on Tha Carter III, which slipped to the number 2 position on the Billboard 200 chart this week, after a five-week run in the top slot.

In May, popular South African singer Karma-Ann Swanepoel accused him of using her track "Once" on the controversial song "I Feel Like Dying," which started out as a popular mixtape release before being added to the new album.
<img width='1' demonstration nothing more than a publicity stunt. On his show, O’Reilly again took aim at the Queensbridge poet’s lyrics.

“As you may have heard, that guy [Nas] is accusing Fox News of being a racist organization. This from a person that makes a living peddling the ‘n word’ and violent lyrics to his target audience of children and young adults,” O’Reilly stated last night on his show the O’Reilly Factor. “He is a real champ.”

O’Reilly further dismissed the media attention the protest received, which was fueled by over 600,000 petition signatures condemning the network’s alleged demeaning actions, such as O’Reilly threatening a “lynching” party on Michelle Obama and the network referring to her as “Obama’s baby mama.”

“The good news is that very few media have given him attention and those who did don’t deserve your attention, they are corrupt,” O’Reilly claimed.

Despite Nas’ untitled album’s standing as the number one release in the country, O’Reilly was adamant that the critically acclaimed LP is a disappointment that fueled Nas’ protest.

“Nas had an obvious agenda. His new album is a bomb, a disaster, a catastrophe, and he desperately wants attention” O’Reilly explained. “Two years ago his last album sold 355,000 copies his first week and this time only 187,000 copies. Not good. I hope I’m not a racist for pointing that out.”

The feud between O’Reilly and Nas began last year when the controversial commentator denounced Nas as a violent rapper, after the he was scheduled to perform a benefit concert for Virginia Tech victims.

Nas responded in various print media before an official response on his new album titled “Sly Fox.”

Yesterday, Nas delivered over 600,000 petition signatures to Fox’s Manhattan headquarters and delivered a short speech criticizing the network as a “propaganda machine” and racist in its coverage of African-Americans.

Later, the rapper was interviewed by political satirist Stephen Colbert on his show “the Colbert Report” and performed “Sly Fox.”

There, he once again revealed he would be willing to debate O’ Reilly on their differences.

Nas’ untitled album was released on July 15 and is currently ranked #1 on Billboard’s top 200 album chart.

Diddy Reveals Masterplan For TV

Building on his already lucrative portfolio of reality show brands, mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has announced the launch of his new VH1 show, I Want to Work for Diddy. The first hour long episode is set to premier August 4 at 9:00 pm and will follow 13 aspiring assistants as they struggle through a myriad of emotional, mental, and physical challenges, for the opportunity to work directly under Diddy.

The applicant’s work will be narrowed down by a panel of judges: Warner Music VP Kevin Liles, Sean John Marketing Director and former Diddy assistant Capricorn Clark, and Island Def Jam Chief of Staff Phil Robinson.

Diddy spoke exclusively to AllHipHop.com about how the new show came about and his long term plans for his various television brands.

“This is an overall plan of mine I’ve had for the past year to take over the airwaves,” Diddy said. “For the month of August I have three shows on the air. On Monday you have I Want to Work for Diddy, Tuesday you have Run’s House, and Wednesday you got Making the Band. So every time you turn on VH1 or MTV you’ll see the Bad Boy logo or hear the music. It’s a lot of real estate and brand marketing that I’m experimenting with along with the creative content that I’ve put together.”

Even with the large amount of airtime, Diddy is not worried about overkill or monotony, since each show remains distinct and showcases positive images of successful young African-American’s and Latinos.

And as a pioneer in reality TV shows focused on African-Americans, Diddy feels an obligation to show his community how to empower themselves.

“It’s a lot of African-American talent that’s on the shows,” Diddy beamed. “I’m very proud of that and to add color to MTV, VH1, and Viacom. It’s [about] the positive messages but making them all distinct. It’s about us being able to empower ourselves, not asking for any handouts. You see that on Run’s House where the children are starting their own businesses. With Making the Band we’ve taking the show on the road for the first time. You’ll be able to see the competitive nature between the groups in different cities. And I Want to Work for Diddy is about following your dreams no matter where you come from.”

Run’s House is in its fifth season and airs Wednesdays at 10pm on MTV.

I Want to for Diddy premiers Monday August 4 on VH1.

Download Best Of Hip-Hop Rap Music Ever

Click the Image to View a Larger Image

Big thanks to all who seeds and not just leech.
Please leave a comment if you like this post!

Contents of download: The Complete Best Of Hip-Hop/Rap Collection (Top Rap Hip-Hop Songs of All-Time, Ever)
Category: English Rap

Without further a due, I bring to you...The Complete Best Of Hip-Hop/Rap Collection (Top Rap Hip-Hop Songs of All-Time, Ever)!

Playlist files:

1. 2Pac - Against All Odds (192kbps)
2. 2pac - All Eyez On Me (128kbps)
3. 2pac - Ambitionz As A Ridah (128kbps)
4. 2Pac - Bomb First (My Second Reply) (192kbps)
5. 2Pac - Changes (256kbps)
6. 2Pac - Dear Mama (256kbps)
7. 2Pac - me against the world (192kbps)
8. 2Pac - Picture Me Rollin' (256kbps)
9. 50 Cent - How To Rob (192kbps)
10. 50 Cent - Many Men (Wish Death) (192kbps)
11. 50 Cent - The Good Die Young (192kbps)
12. 8Ball And MJG - Throw Your Hands Up (Feat. In order to get it you had to buy the issue that was sold in skateboard shops (i.e., it wasn’t packaged with bookshop or other newsstand copies). This is pretty early Wu, and at the time they had a board company that sponsored Kevin Taylor, who’s now with Zoo York. The mix itself is gritty Rza, with bits from Tical adn 36 Chambers mixed with jazz and funk.”

“This came in polybagged with a Slap skateboard mag, but you had to get it at a legit skateshop. They were freebies, but weren’t sent to bookstores or other newsstands. Super good, really gritty Rza. Funny, it sorta has that indie/MF Doom feel that people are talking about now, but this was like in 1996. ”

(torrent file)

Top 2Pac rap songs

Big thanks to all who seeds and not just leech.
Please leave a comment if you like this post.

Contents of download: 2Pac - The 10TH Anniversary Collection
Category: English Rap

track listing

Disc One - The Sex

2Pac - 1.
