Concerning the issue of the Rapture, the Messiah makes four main points. First, in verse 36, as to the question of when: this is known only by one Person, and that is God the Father. It is not known by the angels, nor was it known by the Son in His humanity, but only by God the Father. If the timing of the Rapture has been hidden from both angels and the humanity of Jesus, how much more so is it hidden from mankind in general!

For that reason, the only clue given concerning the timing of the Rapture is that it will occur some time before the Tribulation, and it may not necessarily occur just before the Tribulation. It might easily oc- cur ten or twenty years before that time. As to the question of when the Rapture will occur, the answer is simple: no one knows. This is not true of the Second Coming of the Messiah, which will some day be a datable event. It will occur exactly seven years after the signing of the seven-year covenant and 31⁄2 years (42 months or 1,260 days) after the Abomination of Desolation.

Second: there will not be any signs preceding the Rapture (vv. 37-39) as there will be signs preceding the Second Coming. When the Rapture occurs, it will happen while there are normal conditions on the earth. The Flood also came while there were normal conditions on the earth, while men were eating, and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage. None of these things are sinful, but are necessary for human survival and propagation.

While normal conditions existed on earth, the Noahic Flood arrived and swept them all away. In the same way, while there are normal conditions on the earth, the Rapture will suddenly occur, sweeping away all believers (vv. 40-41). This will not be true of the Second Coming. When that event occurs, conditions on earth will be far from normal, as earlier sections of the Olivet Discourse and the Book of Revelation clearly show.

Third: when it comes, it will mean a separation (vv. 40-42). Accord- ing to the key Rapture passages discussed in the main body of the book (Jn. 14:1-3; I Cor. 15:50-58; I Thes. 4:13-18), it will be a separation of the believer from the unbeliever.

Fourth: there is the supplication to watch (Lk. 21:34-36) for the purpose of escaping the Tribulation. Throughout the Olivet Discourse, to watch means “to be ready.” Watching is the equivalent of readiness, and readiness is equivalent to salvation. So the means of escaping the Tribula- tion is by means of salvation. Only those who accept the Messiah before the Rapture of the Church can be ready and watching.

Luke gives two reasons for watching. First: that believers may escape all these things that shall come to pass during the Tribulation. What Luke states should not be missed. He points out that the Tribulation will come upon all them that dwell on the face of all the earth (v. 35). In other words, no one living on the earth can escape the effects of the Tribulation. It will fall upon all earth-dwellers.

Luke also states there is a possibility to prevail to escape all these things that shall come to pass (v. 36). This is not possible if one is on the earth. Hence, to escape all these things, one must be off the earth. Second: that the believer might stand before the Son of man in Heaven. This will be the result of the Rapture: we stand before the Son of man and by standing before Him, we escape all these things. Both of these things can only be accomplished by the Rapture, and that is why to watch is to be saved.

@Daniel ben YHWH: Agree. First of all, my understanding is that the verse about "no one knowing the day or the hour" refers to the Second Coming, not the Rapture.

I do agree with you that we CAN know "the year, season, and general times." While we might not be able to know THE day, I think Song of Solomon 2 has allowed us to know the day of the year, namely Pentecost. I believe Song of Solomon 2 informs us that the Rapture SHOULD occur on Pentecost. Having said that, it doesn't tell us which YEAR. Pentecost, of course, occurs every year.

The Bible says that when modern Israel becomes a nation, that shall usher-in the last generation. Modern Israel became a nation in 1948. Proverbs says that a generation is 70-80 years. If we add 80 to 1948, we get 2028. However, the Bible also says that "all these things must come to pass" during the final generation. One of "those things" is the Tribulation. The Tribulation is 7 years, so we subtract 7 from 2028, and we get 2021. What this tells us is that the Rapture SHOULD occur no later than 2021.

In sum, the Rapture SHOULD occur on Pentecost, and it SHOULD occur no later than 2021. I'm hoping it occurs NEXT YEAR.

Well when I first read this text I was ruffled by it.

But months have shown me that it has thruth, beyond the magnificent poetry.

I still believe that if we cannot know the date or the hour.

We can surely know say the year, or the season, the general times thereof.

That is why Jesus himself, and the whole Bible is full of signs, of ways to know this general time thereof.

But this poem is at least a balm for the weary watchers on the wall;
which we are, my dear brethren.

Dating The Rapture

From the very first time I looked upon her she filled me with hope and wonder. There is no way to tell you how often thereafter my mind would dwell upon her, and the many ways in which I was sure she could change my life. Though little of her was known to me, that which I knew drew me to her and made me want to see her. When I enquired as to her name I was told the she was called rapture.

Fascinated by the thought of being swept away by her power I boldly asked those who seemed to know so much about her if perhaps I might date her.

Oh no, came back the warnings, not from those who thought her evil, but from those who seemed to think that she was so high and lofty that she would never allow herself to be dated. Others led me to understand that were she to let one date her then others would be excluded, and she had no desire to specially favor one at the expense of all others.

It seems that long ago a chap named Miller tried to date her but was brought to embarrassment by the attempt. In the years that followed, once in a great while one would work up the courage try but she would allow none of them to date her. A man by the name of Peter, whom many thought worthy, tried to date her two or three times, but this only brought him ridicule from those who watched him valiantly fail. One fellow gave eighty-eight reasons why he would be the one to date her, but she ignored him altogether. Another sap named Harold boasted to all the world that he could date her, and spent goodly sums of other men’s money to proclaim the news. Yet in the end he only made a fool of himself.

Being a Christian and wanting to do things in a decent and orderly fashion, I asked God if it were possible for any man to date this beautiful rapture, after all, her alluring charms appealed in so many ways to so many men. His answer was kind but emphatic, NO, no one may date her now or ever. You may adore her, you may long for her, you may speak of her charms to others, you may sing about her, and you may hope that one day she will carry you away from all your toil and trouble, but date her you may not.

Daniel, that was a touching song. Your voice is lovely. Years ago, my voice teacher was coaching me on French diction. She was trying to help me grasp the subtleties of French poetry. Now, decades later, while listening to you, I understand what she was trying to convey. I haven’t sung in a couple of years, but at least I finally grasped the concept.

Oh Daniel, I listened to both your songs on this link. I think the frog song is my favorite, it was slower, you sang more, and I could understand it.

It was pretty cool to hear you sing in French though. It makes me wish I had paid attention in French 30, or even gone to class, for that matter. French is a lovely language to listen to.

I hope things get better for you. May we be home soon, then things will be better for us all.
