This 1995 Buell S2 Thunderbolt is bit of a red headed stepchild in the sportbiking world, and the company always struggled to find its niche. Erik Buell’s choice to power his early bikes with Harley’s low-revving lump meant these bikes would have been largely uncompetitive in most racing classes at the time. But it also meant his machines could be proudly made in America and were excellent roadbikes, with a distinctive character and plenty of midrange grunt from the tuned 1203cc 45° Harley-Davidson v-twin Sportster engine that produced a claimed 76hp. The complete bike was reasonably light at 480lbs wet, had flickable handling, and you can get most parts to keep one running at your local Harley dealer. What’s not to like? Well, build quality was supposedly a bit spotty, parts can vibrate loose, and the bike will slowly walk itself backwards if you leave it idling on an incline, but it seems a small price to pay for a bike this cool. The same could be said of an old Norton Commando, and everybody loves those, right?

These early Buell tube-frame models are still shockingly undervalued, I think. I recognize that Buell is a bit of an upstart brand, with no significant racing laurels and the usual kit-bike reputation, but the bikes are fun to ride, handle well, and the Harley engines have character in spades and virtually endless aftermarket parts support. This 1995 Buell S2 Thunderbolt looks pristine, comes with the fantastically retro Performance Machine wheels, lots of history, has very reasonable miles, appears to be in excellent condition, and the asking price is basically peanuts, for what you’re getting.

One of the most well-known and historically signficant sportbikes of the modern era, the Suzuki GSX-R750 is known by fans and detractors alike as the “Gixxer.” Introduced in 1985, the new bike set the sportbike world on its ear, not because it was the first machine to incorporate all of the classic design elements that would become standard equipment on nearly every modern sportbike, but because it was the first to do so at a price the average rider could afford and helped to define the template for the modern motorcycle. It’s all there: an aluminum frame, monoshock rear suspension, triple disc brakes, inline four-cylinder engine, clip-on bars, and a full race-style fairing.

The second-generation 1988 model seen here featured a significantly updated frame that was still much slimmer than the blockier Deltabox design used by Yamaha. An updated, short-stroke engine was fitted, and wrapped in the obviously restyled fairing. This relatively short-lived design was built between 1988 and 1991 and is known as the “Slingshot” due to a design quirk of the carburetors fitted to the model. Compared to designs from Yamaha and Honda, it might have seemed outdated, but the design worked, and it was popular among riders. These second-generation bikes are especially hard to find in nice condition and are very desirable. This particular bike appears to be extremely clean and well-maintained, with low miles. It’s not in completely original configuration, but a number of the original parts not on the bike included in the sale.

The ’96 is a first-generation F-series 6R, the bike Cycle World once called Kawasaki’s do-it-all middleweight when they tested it new. Worth a read if you want the period take on how this thing rode fresh off the truck. It’s the bike that put real pressure on Honda’s CBR600 and helped kick off the modern 600 supersport arms race. Aluminum twin-spar frame, 105 claimed horsepower, 4-piston front calipers on dual 300mm discs. For 1996 that was serious hardware in a 600.

Anyone who’s brought a bike back from a decade of storage knows it will need attention. Fuel system is the real question mark on a bike that’s sat this long, carbs on these can gum up fast, and the fork seals and rubber lines are pushing 30 years regardless of mileage. The walk-around video and photos clearly show all the blemishes and surface issues, so at least there’s no guessing what you’re getting into.

At $3,000 with under 900 miles, this is priced like a project, not a museum piece, even though the mileage says otherwise. Somebody’s going to get either a fantastic time capsule or a lesson in what “garage kept” actually means once the tank comes off.

This 1991 Yamaha FZR600 is finished in black and is powered by a 599cc inline-four paired with a six-speed transmission. Equipment includes four Mikuni carburetors, a four-into-one Vance & Hines exhaust system, a Deltabox frame and swingarm, a rear monoshock, triple disc brakes, 17″ and 18″ alloy wheels, a full fairing, a clear windscreen, two-up seating, and a side stand. The seller acquired the bike in 2026, and subsequent work included changing the oil and replacing the front tire and spark plugs. The seller notes an intermittent running issue and recommends overhauling the fuel system and carburetors. This FZR600 is offered at no reserve with an owner’s manual and a clean Utah title in the seller’s name.

The FZR600 doesn’t get talked about as much as its bigger 1000cc sibling, but it deserves the credit. Yamaha barely touched the platform between 1989 and 1993 because they nailed it out of the gate: steel twin-spar Deltabox frame, forward-canted Genesis engine, and a chassis good enough that 9 of the top 10 finishers at its Daytona debut in 1989 were on Yamahas, with John Kocinski taking the win. This ’91 is a single-headlight year, the one where Yamaha ditched the dual-round-lamp look for the sharper rectangular unit. Some people prefer the earlier face. Either way it’s unmistakably early-90s Yamaha.

The Vance & Hines can is a nice period-correct touch on a bike from an era when the brand was genuinely racing these things at Daytona. Can’t speak to what it’s doing for the midrange without a dyno sheet, but it looks the part. The seller being upfront about the intermittent running issue and recommending a carb and fuel system service is the kind of honesty that actually helps here. A 35-year-old bike running four Mikunis that’s never had the bowls cleaned is a ticking time bomb regardless of how good the rest of the bike looks, and calling it out up front means you’re not finding out the hard way after you’ve won it.

No reserve on BaT means this one sells no matter what. Question is whether it goes to someone who’s going to sort the carbs and put miles on it, or someone who tucks it away as a clean example of a bike most people forget existed. Either way works.

At $17,250 you’re paying more than Honda charged for one of these new, back when the Repsol Edition stickered around $15k out the door. No break-in miles, no heat cycles to speak of, tires that are probably closer to expired than worn. Original owner, climate controlled garage, the whole story checks out with the photos.

For context, low-mile examples of these have been trading well under new-MSRP territory. A 3,240-mile 2015 Repsol we found listed carries a market value around $10,200. Eighty eight miles is obviously a different animal than 3,240, but it gives you a sense of where these generally sit.

1975 BMW R90S

Until the advent of the S1000RR, BMW was largely known for its practical sport-touring machines. It’s almost like they couldn’t help themselves: even their sportiest offerings offered heated grips, optional luggage, comfy ergonomics, wind-cheating fairings, and a whole catalog of useful accessories. That’s certainly true of today’s BMW R90S, a bike that doesn’t look particularly sporty, wild 1970s paint scheme aside. But don’t let that fool you: this 75hp 898cc two-valve, air-cooled, shaft-drive flat-twin was successfully campaigned in AMA Superbike racing, winning the inaugural event in 1976 and then the championship in 1977. Roadgoing versions naturally came with a set of handy gauges in the very functional fairing, and the bike also came with a tire pump, tool set, and a first aid kit. Your average Ducati barely had room for a pack of cigarettes and registration paperwork…

If you’re up in Monterey this weekend, all excited by the incredibly rare cars and bikes on display, with $25,000 burning a hole in your pocket, you might want to check out this very nicely restored BMW R90S that just happens to be in the neighborhood. It’s in beautiful shape, and the R90S is practical, fast, and very distinctive. Obviously, $25,000 is pretty serious money for an R90S, no matter how impressive the restoration and, for many collectors, “it’s only original once.”

1997 Moto Guzzi Sport 1100i

The Moto Guzzi Sport 1100i was less a cutting-edge sportbike and more a classy roadgoing sportster with tons of character and nods to the Italian manufacturer’s heritage. If that sounds like I’m damning the Sport 1100i with faint praise, well that depends. If what you’re looking for is something to replace your current GSX-R for trackday shenanigans, then this would make for a pretty poor choice. If instead you’re looking for a muscular, quirky machine that looks great, sounds great, handles confidently, will possibly run forever, and starts conversations whenever you stop, you might have found the perfect bike. By 1996, Guzzi’s two-valve, pushrod 1064cc v-twin engine had gained Weber Marelli fuel injection that produced a claimed 90hp, and the new fuel injected engine offered much smoother power delivery, compared to earlier carbureted Guzzis. This obviously wasn’t huge power, even back then, compared to something like the 155hp of the GSX-R1100 of the same era. Surprisingly, the Guzzi did weigh a bit less than the big Gixxer. The rest of the spec sheet was pure 90s Italian high performance though: triple goldline Brembo brakes, fully-adjustable suspension front and rear, from WP in this case. Overall, the Sport 1100i was always a bit marmite, even among fans of Italian sportbikes: a handsome and capable, but very flawed machine.

The bike was maintained by Cadre Cycles in Ohio, the dealership owner bought the bike from the original owner and did all of the typical maintenance items such as replace tires/tubes, fluids, timing chain tensioners, etc. The bike runs exceedingly well and accelerates like a “scared rabbit”

The color, fit and finish on all fairing pieces are amazingly well preserved. The ride and handling are excellent, this is where the bike really stands out and it tends to draw a crowd and admirers.

This Moto Guzzi Sport 1100i is a pretty rare machine and makes for an excellent “mature” sportbike: the big v-twin makes plenty of real-world power, and is reliable and easy to work on, particularly with those simple overhead valves, pushrods, and sticky-outy cylinder heads that make for simplified access. It’s less glamorous than the four-valve Daytona but also simpler to maintain. The shaft-drive means no chain to lubricate, tighten, or replace, although a lack of a spin-on oil-filter does complicate that particular chore. It’s not an agile bike, but it is stable, with relatively good brakes, although it lacks any sort of ABS. With just over 18,000 miles on the clock, this one is barely broken-in, and appears mostly stock, although the weirdly chopped exhaust is somewhat suspicious. At least it’s also probably suitably loud. Best to budget for a nice set of Termignoni or Staintune pipes that will better suit the bike.

Came with a Yoshimura exhaust. Carbs were cleaned and fuel petcock was replaced with a new old stock. New set of Bridgestone tires. One crack on the front fairing repaired from the inside (see picture) and some scratches consistent with age. Clean title in my name and in my hand. $500 deposit is non refundable.
