Here’s what jumps out: this is a 900SS/SP, not a CR. That matters. The SP was the spec upgrade, North American market only, with fully adjustable Showa suspension, aluminum swingarm, wider rear wheel, and carbon bits from the factory. It also comes with a numbered production plaque on the triple tree, and this one is #631. Tad just covered a 900SS/CR last month, and even noted readers might want to hold out for a nice SP. Well, here’s your SP.

The seller’s description is short, but what’s there counts: new tires, new brakes, fresh fluids, carbs cleaned and synced, and under 6,000 miles. That’s a bike that’s ready to ride, not a project. A 1995 SP with similar miles and a fresh service just sold through Iconic for $6,500, and another SP sold for $6,558 on the same platform. The only thing the listing doesn’t tell you: condition of the belts. On a 30-year-old Ducati, that’s not a small question. Worth asking before you make the drive.

Thirty years in storage will do one of two things to a bike. This one looks like it came out the right way.

The ’94 GSX-R750 was a significant update: lighter, revised internals, six-piston brakes, and those blue anodized inverted forks. 11,104 miles on the clock and most of its life spent sitting.

The parts photo tells the real story. Original exhaust, stock airbox, manuals, Barnett clutch kit, spare turn signals, clip-ons, and a solo seat. Someone took care of this thing and kept everything that came with it. The solo seat is a nice touch.

Worth noting: the bike is currently wearing an aftermarket FMF exhaust. The stock pipe is in that parts photo.

At $6,500 OBO, it’s listed on Facebook Marketplace if you want to track it down.

This color scheme will definitely turn some heads. I can’t imagine not taking this out to show it off. Would you take it out or store it for another 20 years?

1998 Ducati 916 Monoposto

There’s no question that the Ducati 916 Monoposto is one of the most iconic sportbikes of the modern, or any era. It made headlines and history for its stunning good looks, but the evolutionary performance that built on the company’s earlier 851/888 meant it could back up its style with performance. The 114hp at 66lb-ft of torque pale in comparison to modern superbikes, but every single horse answers the call of your right hand, unedited and unfiltered. It was plenty for the best pilots of the day, and would likely surprise even modern riders weaned on bikes with ass-saving traction control. It was slim and relatively light, with famously uncompromising ergonomics that meant riders had to suffer to experience the bike’s art. And while less exotic examples of the 916 were affordable for riders of modest means for years, those days appear to be over…

Low mile (under 6k) beautiful survivor. Under 100 miles on desmo service, belts, fluids including forks & Pirelli tires. 100 yellow monoposto versions were imported in 1998, last year of the 916. You might have seen this bike at The One Show (Portland) in early May. It is in amazing unrestored condition, no evidence of any damage, original paint. All stock other than dealer installed Termignoni carbon exhaust with ecu chip and 996 five spoke Marchesini wheels. Original 3 spoke gold Brembo wheels included.

Well, if you were looking to pick up a nice, clean example of Tamburini’s classic superbike, you’ve definitely missed your window: the asking price for this clean, low-mile Ducati 916 Monoposto is $14,000 and is right in line with recent auctions of similar bikes. This one is in the rare, but attractive yellow, which looks especially nice with the contrasting white numberplates. The photos aren’t the best and the included details are sparse, but it sounds like this is a very solid bike, and the original wheels are included, if you don’t like the white Marchesinis. I like ’em, but I’m sure they’re a serious pain to keep clean…

1982 Suzuki GS1000SZ Katana

The early 1980s saw dramatic changes in the motorcycling world, especially with regards to styling: simple unfaired bikes that would have looked at home in the late 1960s were sold along side shockingly modern-looking sportbikes like today’s Suzuki GS1000SZ Katana. Although, to be fair, the Katana’s styling by German designer Hans Muth was from a sexier motorcycling future that never actually arrived, as sportbikes quickly evolved to have bulbous, aerodynamic fairings and monoshock suspensions, neither of which are found on the Katana. And futuristic looks  aside, the mechanicals underneath are far more evolutionary than revolutionary: there’s the aforementioned twin-shock rear suspension, and the engine was a development of Suzuki’s air-cooled, sixteen-valve, dual overhead cam inline four, here sleeved-down to 998cc to qualify the new bike for racing classes capped at 1000cc. Stroke remained the same as was found on the original 1074cc engine, although rules changes meant later Katanas ultimately got the bigger engine. Especially by modern standards, the original Katana was more a stylish, straight-line speed machine than a genuine corner-carver, but the bike remains an icon for its wildly forward-thinking style.

There isn’t much detail in the listing of this Suzuki GS1000SZ Katana and the seller does have a bit of an “I know what I got” kind of vibe but, to be fair, he probably does: the bike looks very clean, other than the cloudy windscreen, miles are pretty low for a bike of this vintage, and the $9,500 asking price seems very reasonable. Photos with better illumination would be helpful, but this appears to be well within the range for clean, first-generation Katanas of late.

The XLCR was Willie G.’s café racer answer to the Japanese bikes, built for three years and largely ignored at the time. Collectors have since come around. A clean survivor is hard enough to find. One with 3,766 miles, Reiman’s engine work, and Dick O’Brien’s head work is something else entirely.

Reiman won Daytona, took the AMA Grand National, and built Evel Knievel’s jump bikes. O’Brien ran Harley’s factory race program for decades. That’s a lot of history on one title.

The TL1000R doesn’t get talked about enough. Suzuki’s answer to the RC51 and the 916 was a 996cc V-twin stuffed into a full superbike chassis, and it had enough personality to make people nervous. Rotary damper out back, enough torque to embarrass sportbike riders who weren’t paying attention. It was polarizing when new and it’s underappreciated now, which usually means the window to buy one cheap is closing.

Six grand with receipts and low miles is a reasonable ask for a clean TL1000R right now. These aren’t getting cheaper.

One thing we can’t confirm from the listing: the year. The TL1000R ran from 1998 to 2003, and this one isn’t giving it up from the photo. Readers, can you nail it down from the bodywork or graphics?

2009 Ducati SportClassic 1000S

Ducati’s SportClassic range represents perhaps the best realized synthesis of modern and vintage styling cues yet, as embodied by this 2009 Ducati SportClassic 1000S. They aren’t meant to actually look like classic bike, they are clearly modern machines, but with shapes and colors and graphics that hint at an earlier age. There are really very few practical concessions to style, aside from the aggressive riding position: other than the chrome instrument bezels, the wire wheels, and the classic tread pattern on the Pirelli Phantoms, this is a thoroughly modern motorcycle. Albeit with a classic two-valve, air/oil-cooled engine by Ducati that’s desirable in the retro cafe genre Ducati’s two-valve, air/oil-cooled engine was well past its prime at this point. But even here, the engine saw significant improvements, and the 992cc unit used the newer DualSpark heads for better all around performance. The 92 claimed horses and claimed 414lb dry weight belie the over-the-road performance on tap, and the package makes for a famously enjoyable back-road partner.

Styled by the famous/infamous Pierre Terblanche and first shown at the 2003 Tokyo Motorcycle Show as a single model that was intended to evoke Paul Smart’s famous Imola race-winning Ducati, the SportClassic range went on sale in 2006 and was discontinuned in 2010. It was a simple concept: use Ducati’s elemental air/oil-cooled v-twin to power a range of bikes differentiated by their bodywork, or lack thereof, and included the fully-faired 1000LE Paul Smart and later 1000S, the cafe-styled Sport1000, and the practical all-rounder GT1000. The early Paul Smart replica with its striking tubular swingarm and offset single shock gave way to the more practical 1000S seen here that shared the earlier bike’s styling, but with a revised swingarm and a pair of shocks that allowed for a passenger to join in the fun. Suspension was non-adjustable on the later SportClassics, but was of good quality, and the entire range was noted for its excellent handling and charismatic, if modestly-powered engine.

Unfortunately for Ducati, after the initial excitement around the SportClassics died down, sales seemed to quickly slow, and the range was ultimately discontinued in 2010 after dwindling to just one model, the largely unloved GT1000. But prices in the used market never really seemed to fall very far, and instead have steadily risen over the years, with asking prices for the 1000S regularly exceeding double the bike’s original $10,995 asking price, a testament to the SportClassic’s combination of enduring style and accessible performance. And that may be part of the appeal here: unlike their more exotic superbikes, the two-valve Ducatis are relatively easy to own and ride, with less painful maintenance requirements and performance that’s usable on the road by riders with a wider range of skills.

According to reports from Ducati, only 50 black 2009 Ducati Sport Classic Sport 1000S motorcycles were shipped to the USA. These 2009 models are considered rare, with some sources noting that only 51 units of the 2009 Sport1000S were produced worldwide, all of which were finished in Ducati Black. In the 17 years of US ownership and having searched European Moto GP parking lots, I have never seen another black model (The red models were mass produced). My Sport1000S features a distinctive black paint scheme with a white stripe, black spoked wheels and a black trellis frame.

This bike is a Unicorn of café bikes Italian art masquerading as a motorcycle. Original owner, original tires. 7540 Miles purchased in the fall of 2009 From Moto Corsa in Portland Oregon. Used on the occasional Sunday rides in the with the (baso-profundo) deep base sound echoing off the canyon wall in Arizona, would occasionally ride to work with riding duties shared among my collection of other café bikes to keep miles down. I always wanted a retro mod/café bike and a Ducati, fortunately this model came out before the café retro craze as it was already discontinued model by the time this happened, it was to be a life-long bike given how unique it is (still have never seen another one in person). It remained 100% stock up till about 2018 when I found the difficult to find new old stock Termignoni exhausts and a K&N air filter. It has a tank cover from Italy as the only other add on feature to protect the new gas tank that was under recall early in my ownership.

This year it just had its 7500-mile full service at the dealership in Scottsdale Az that resulted in a complete fork rebuild, new master cylinder, new battery, stator check, change of all fluids and valve adjustment totaling over $3500 work, since then I rode it once. As a mature sports bike enthusiast and healthcare professional it was well cared for, regularly serviced, never hot-rodded or abused, always stored indoors, never down or ridden in bad weather.

Reason for selling is cliché but getting older and not riding the cafe bikes very much anymore, so looking to liquidate my café collection for a collector or next care minded owner to enjoy this rare beauty.

This particular Ducati SportClassic 1000S is about as nice as you’ll ever find. The original limited run of 1000LE Paul Smart replicas with slightly different specification is at the very top, in terms of desirability, but this later example has very low miles, meticulous maintenance, one-owner status, and that rare and handsome color going for it: according to the seller, just 50 black 1000S were imported in 2009. The bike is almost completely original as well, aside from the tasteful and desirable Termignoni exhausts that have been fitted. As the seller mentions: the original pipes are included in the sale, if you’re worried about originality or upsetting the neighbors. The price for this basically perfect example of the ultimate two-valve, air-cooled production Ducati? The seller is asking $32,000 which is obviously at the high end for a SportClassic, but is in line with other premium examples that have sold in recent years.

The AR80 was only imported to the US in 1982, making it a genuine one-year-only bike for the American market. Kawasaki built it to compete with Honda’s MB5: 78cc two-stroke, cast alloy wheels, Uni-Trak suspension. It looked like a real sportbike because it basically was one, just pocket-sized. Parts in the US are scarce to non-existent today, so finding one with a title and video proof it runs is already ahead of the curve.

The tank scratch is real and the seller photographs it honestly. Looking at the photos, there’s additional wear visible beyond that too. Tank isn’t pristine, eyes open. Price reflects it. Brakes need bleeding, tires need replacing. Nothing exotic, just deferred maintenance after two decades as living room decor. Clean examples have sold anywhere from $3,000 to $5,000+.

The seller has 35+ bikes and isn’t in a hurry. Don’t waste their time with lowballs.
