A quick announcement this time. It’s been over 3 months and I wanted to explain what’s been happening with my health. I also wanted to make sure everyone knows that I plan to continue the show once I recover from my latest (and hopefully last) round of surgery. I also played a couple of tunes. 07:53 – Tickle – My Wee Tribe – CC BY-NC-SA Licensed – British hip hop with a message from Black Lantern Records. Tickle raps fast but perhaps that’s because he’s got plenty to say, I like his political sensibilities and the music isn’t bad either

20:43 – Down Like Silver – To The River – ALL RIGHTS RESERVED – I was tipped off to this one by Jon Archer, a friend and listener of the show. I bought it off Bandcamp and even though it says all rights reserved I wanted to share it. So if you like the tune go and grab yourself a copy too!

23:55 – Jonathan Coulton – Skullcrusher Mountain – CC BY-NC Licensed – Do I really need to say anything about Jonathan Coulton at this point? If you don’t know him and you’re a CC music fan you must have been living under a rock. Go and check out one of the 15 million albums he’s done.

31:30 – Plug&Play – Lost A Friend – CC BY-SA Licensed – Polish indie rock outfit from Lublin. I like their jangly guitar sound and I suspect the singer has been listening to a fair amount of Morrissey. No bad thing.

36:08 – The Meaning Under – The Colour And The Shapes – CC BY-NC-ND Licensed – Some Italian metal from this Padova based band. The track was released on Jamendo in 2009, so it’s quite old but still sounds great. Big rock sound but plenty of melody too.

46:34 – Kendra Logozar – New Life – CC BY-SA Licensed – Kendra Logozar (nee Springer) is an American pianist from a town called Round Rock. This song is a few years old but it still sounds beautiful. A relaxing bit of classical piano.

52:04 – S.A Bach – It’ll Have To Do – CC BY Licensed – Another beautiful acoustic tune from S.A Bach. I like the lyrics in this one. It’s kinda sad but it speaks to something a lot of people can probably relate to.

58:36 – The Eastern Ellises – Falcon 69 – CC BY-NC-SA Licensed – Some killer electro pop from Canada. Montreal to be exact. I love the production and slightly industrial sound on this.

I got back into the swing of another Rathole Radio. The live listeners got cut off about half way through as my Raspberry Pi streaming solution died, but I persevered. 31:19 – The Kinevel Dead – Knife – License Unknown – I was tipped off to this by friend of the show Joe Ressington. This is a friend of his and he plays drums on the tracks, plus mixed them. He keeps busy that boy. This track is off the new album “And We Sleep”. There’s a launch party for that in London on Saturday August 25th at The Dublin Castle in Camden. Get along and enjoy the music you if you can.

33:45 – Stone Pony – Across Town – All Rights Reserved – This was sent to me ages ago by fellow AMP member Justin Wayne. It’s taken a while to get to the top of my listening queue but I’m glad it did. Stone Pony are a London band well worth checking out. This is taken from the 2012 album Rabble Rock Radio. You can get their music from Bandcamp.

40:58 – Abraham Castellon – Nor De Tu Amor – CC BY-SA Licensed – I discovered this Spanish artist on Jamendo radio and I thought it might a slightly more summer vibe for those suffering crappy weather link the UK. He hails from Zaragoza and I have no idea what the song means. Something about love (amor). Isn’t it always?

50:18 – The Wind Whistles – Gold Fever – CC BY-NC-SA Licensed – I played this band on the last show after discovering them on Jamendo radio. It seems I was behind the times though, Dave & Caroline from The Bugcast submitted this to AMPed and found them long before I.

• 00:00 – Kursed – Perfect mean – CC BY-NC-SA Licensed – Another track from French rockers Kursed. I’ve played them before but not for a long time. I was reminded of them by CC Hits recently. Very cool sound.

• 07:10 – Dan Bull – Death Of ACTA – CC BY Licensed – The ever popular protest rapper who attempted a Creative Commons assault on the UK top 40 not so long ago. This song was in a collection of his old stuff and it seemed appropriate this week.
• 10:41 – Anna Dagmar – Satellite – License Unknown – Picked up from the always wonderful Bugcast with Dave & Caroline. I bought this from CD Baby and there’s a load of Anna’s albums on there to check out.

• 21:44 – Alex Hulme – Sparks – License Unknown – Saw Alex live again in Liverpool this week and he really is excellent. Nice guy too, we had a chat after his gig at the Vizea Sounds opening party. He game me a CD of his new EP on Cityscape Records that he’d intended to post. Personal delivery, how nice.
• 23:53 – Diablo Swing Orchestra – Heroines – CC BY-NC-SA Licensed – Sweden’s finest operatic rockers at their best. Their style is hard to define, just the way I like things. I’ve played them many times on the show but so far not this song I don’t think.

• 35:02 – Heifervescent – Let This Monkey Go – CC BY-NC-ND Licensed – A new album has just been released and I’ve featured this artist many times before. Check it out, the album is excellent. There’s a 7 track taster on Jamendo and the full thing is available to buy.
• 39:32 – Tenpenny Joke – Popcorn – CC BY-SA Licensed – Another track from Aussie rockers Tenpenny Joke. I’ve played them a load of times but they’re great. Not played this track so far either. Check out their album Ambush On All Sides on Jamendo. Nearly every track is a corker.

• 46:01 – Felixjd – Little Dreams – CC BY Licensed – Another track from this Italian dance-meister. I’m mixing my languages here, what’s Italian for master? Masterino! Either way. Enjoy the slap bass as I did. I think it may be sampled rather than played but either way, top stuff.

• 51:47 – I Am Not Lefthanded – Spark – CC BY-NC-SA Licensed – Do I really need to tell you who these guys are by now? They’ve been on the show, they’ve played on the stage at a Rathole Roadshow. They’re great and you should get a copy of their new album from the website.

• 61:48 – We Are FM – God Save The DJ – CC BY-NC-SA Licensed – Another track from these Dutch dance/rock dons. Hard to describe the sound of this. Definitely lots of electro in there but also punky elements and twist of industrial. From the album Season One.

• 21:04 – Squeaky Chairs Band – Misery Loves Company – CC BY Licensed – 4 lads from Athens, Ohio in the US making great music and squeaking some chairs apparently.

Normal service continues this week as I played an eclectic selection of the best independent music on the web and also chatted about all kinds of rubbish. I attempted a live song but broke a string halfway through and had to abort. So instead I’ve embedded the last live acoustic video I did on YouTube for your listening pleasure. Hope it makes up for it. Enjoy the show

• 00:00 – Edward Khil – Trolololol – License Unknown – This is a classic 1970’s Russian pop song. The original song was censored because the lyrics were deemed unsuitable by the state. So Khil just made random noises and removed all the words. It was rediscovered in recent years and has become an Internet phenomena. Apparently it’s sometimes known as the “Russian Rickroll”. He died just recently.

• 06:09 – Panther Solo – Lap Quilting With Georgia Bonesteel  – CC BY-NC-SA Licensed – This was sent to me by friend of the show Adrian McEwen and it’s actually by a mutual acquaintance of ours. Check out Paul’s music at the website and grab the album Buff Low Noise, it’s very good.
• 09:43 – Lightnin Seed – Stone Root – CC BY-NC-SA Licensed – I heard this on CCHits recently and enjoyed it. More info.

• 17:24 – You Me Tree – Lights – CC BY-NC-SA Licensed – Friends of the show, the guys played last year at the 2011 roadshow and went down a storm. They are now called You Me Tree and released a self titled EP on May 18th. This is the third track from it. Expect to hear more in the coming weeks.
• 21:30 – Merseycide – Richard – CC BY-NC Licensed – Also known as the Dick Limerick Academy on Soundcloud. These lads hail from Liverpool in case you couldn’t tell and I have to thank Graham Holland for sending them my way. After hearing some of the tracks I realised I’d actually seen them live doing a support slot last year.

• 30:42 – Songs Of Trees – Mister Thanatos – License Unknown – An artist submission this one. Kevin Osborne sent release my way and apparently in Greek mythology Thanatos is the Grim Reaper. Which gives the song some extra weight. Find more info at the Sounds Unique website.
• 33:32 – errnois – happiness – CC BY-NC-SA Licensed – The opening track from the last CCHits.net. A strange and experimental piece of music that I found interesting. Read info.

• 43:32 – Bryyn – Lettace In My Pants (reprise) – CC BY-NC-SA Licensed – I played a track by this Swiss artist, careful how you say that, last week. I heard this one via Jamendo and the title intrigued me. Love the mention of Charlie Sheen in the lyrics too.

48:54 – LIVE SONG – 20lb Sounds – “Change” (acoustic) — Aborted due to broken string mid song, gah! Probably for the best after hearing it back. Man it sounded rough. Apologies. Try the video below instead:

• 53:35 – Radio Star – A Common Tale – CC BY-SA Licensed – Heard this via Jamendo radio and liked it a lot. The vocal style reminds me a bit of Robert Smith from The Cure in parts. There’s almost no information about this band on Jamendo so if you know any more please pass it on. Their profile is managed by Isotope Records who are based in Australia but has no links on it.

• 62:12 – I Am Not Lefthanded – Falls To Me – CC BY-NC-SA Licensed – From the new album The Fire & The Sigh which you can find at their website. The guys have relocated to California and seem to be doing really well. They’ve currently got a Kickstarter campaign up to fund their trip to play the North By Northeast Festival.
