New Orleans Saints Inspired Skinny Scrappy Scarf - Black and Gold – Handmade

This handmade New Orleans Saints Inspired Skinny Scrappy Scarf is the perfect way to show your team spirit. The color palette is Black & Gold which is our interpretation of the New Orleans Saints team colors.

Skinny Scrappy Scarves are long and skinny handmade scarves measuring approximately 76" long and 4" wide. They have multiple fabrics and fibers from a variety of places - including some really unique and luxurious yarns.

Our scarves are carefully sewn (no knots) on a sewing machine using horizontal, vertical, and diagonal straight stitching to hold all the strips of yarn and fabric firmly in place. They are then zigzagged around all the edges, excluding the fringe, of course. They can be GENTLY hand washed and then hung up to dry.

You can wear them many different ways. Wrap them around a couple of times depending on how long you would like them and how warm you want your neck to be! Or wear them the Parisian way by doubling them and pulling the ends through the loop - as shown in the pictures. They are very versatile and can be worn with a t-shirt and jeans, at the office, or dressed up for a night out.

Our bracelets and felt flower pins make great additions to our scarves, and we can make a coordinating bracelet and/or pin to match any of our scarves!

Taking Great Photos

Taking great photos is an important aspect of our online business. The photos are so important because our customers cannot pick up and touch our items; therefore, our photos need to represent how beautiful our items are. Our photos need to “pick up” and “touch” the items for our customers, and they need to represent how soft our scarves are, how soft and pliable our bracelets are, and the great dimensionality of our flower pins. Taking a picture is the easy part. Getting a great photo that will represent our item in the best way possible, now that’s the difficult part.

Most of our photos look pretty good; however, we want to make them great! Also, we need to be able to take our scarf pictures indoors. Between the heat and the rain, it’s almost impossible to get decent pictures outside.

We knew we needed a light box, so off to the computer we went in search of how to make a light box. Of course, Google is our best friend in times like this. Just to let you know, we use Google a LOT! We found some great sites with great tips on how to make and use a light box for taking great photos, and we wanted to share them with you in case you’re having the same issues as we are.

Both use clear plastic storage boxes and inexpensive desk lamps.

The storage box idea is great for smaller items; however, we are also looking for a way to take pictures of our scarves on Mildred.

In continuing our search, we found this great tutorial on how to build a Light Box/Light Tent.

What’s great about this one is you can make it whatever size you want, and that’s why we thought using this idea might be a good choice for pictures using Mildred.

The storage box light box will be our first endeavor. We’ll let you know how it goes.

I’m In Love…

with my New Pantry!!!

Our kitchen is almost finished! We’ve been using it for a while now, but there are still a few more things to do, like installing baseboard and toe kick, painting a few areas, a little grouting, etc. I will be posting pictures of our kitchen soon, but I wanted to share our pantry now. Here are some pictures of it before I put everything in it.

And here are some pictures of it filled with food.

These pictures were taken at two different times, so some things have been moved and other things are more plentiful. Also, the walls are only partially painted in one of the pictures. And, yes, Pepsi was on sale.

The pantry is probably my favorite thing in the kitchen. I did a lot of research about shelving height and layout, and it turned out perfect! All of our food and drinks fit in there. The only thing edible that isn’t in there is my CANDY! It has its own drawer.

Happy Mother’s Day to Me

I have the sweetest and most thoughtful daughter, EVER! She ALWAYS buys the most perfect presents for me, and now that she’s sewing, I get beautiful handmade presents TOO!

This Mother’s Day I got the cutest sewing machine cover, handmade by Beth, of course! It is the most thoughtful gift. Beth knows sewing machines should be covered to keep dust out, and she knows I don’t like messing with the hard plastic cover that goes with mine, SO…

she made me this cover!

Isn’t it cute!!!

I LOVE it! If you look really close, there are LOTS and LOTS of frogs and toads on the fabric. We both love frogs and toads!

And along with it, I got…

ALL of this!

Two oven mitts (which I asked for), a pattern that I showed her on Etsy months ago, and two boxes of baggies.

The reason for the baggies is a funny one. She HATES that I wash out the larger gallon-size baggies and reuse them. I got the habit from my mom, and it just stuck with me. Now if the baggie is really greasy or something, then it gets tossed. Anyway, to be funny, she got me two boxes of baggies.

The pattern is really special because I am fairly certain that my mom used a similar pattern to make clothes for me when I was little. Hopefully, one day I can use this pattern to make some clothes for Beth’s children.

Golden Harvest Jars - Drinking Jar & Salt or Pepper Shaker – Vintage

This set of 2 Golden Harvest Jars would look perfect in your farmhouse kitchen. The larger drinking jar has a brass colored Ball canning jar screw on lid, and the smaller shaker jar appears to have its original brass colored screw on lid.

Measurements:

Drinking jar:

5 1/4” tall
2 3/8” mouth opening
3 1/4” sides

Salt/Pepper Shaker:

3 1/4” tall
1 1/2” mouth opening
2” sides

Both jars are in great vintage condition. No chips or cracks. Sit them in your kitchen window with some fresh flowers or use them at your desk to hold paper clips and push pins. They'd even be great in a sewing space to hold loose pins and needles or to display your buttons!

This 11-hole clear glass floral flower frog is a timeless and classic piece. It measures approximately 1 1/4" tall and is approximately 3" wide. It has 3 feet on the bottom and is in great vintage condition.

You can use it in your office (holding pens and pencils), in your sewing room (holding sewing tools), or for its intended purpose (arranging flowers). Have fun with it! The possibilities are endless.

We were so excited when we found this beautiful flower/floral frog! It is in great vintage condition and would look lovely sitting on your desk or work table.

Orange, Yellow & Green Floral Coffee Mugs Cups Set of 3 - 600/4-4 Japan - Vintage

Orange, Yellow & Green Floral Coffee Mugs Cups Set of 3 - 600/4-4 Japan – Vintage

This is an adorable set of 3 coffee cups or mugs. They all measure approximately 4" tall and 2 7/8" wide. Their bases measure approximately 2 1/2" wide.

All three are marked 600/4-4 Japan on the bottom.

One mug (please see the second picture) is in excellent vintage condition. It appears to be made from a different material than the other two and its sides are thicker. The other two mugs are chipped around their rims, and they are discolored.

We love this set of mugs/cups. They are so colorful and remind us of the 60s and 70s. Please check them out in our shop. We like when you stop by.

This handmade LSU Tigers Scrappy Bracelet is the perfect way to show your team spirit. The color palette is Purple and Yellow Gold which is our interpretation of the LSU Tigers team colors.

Scrappy Bracelets are chunky, handmade bracelets measuring approximately 8 1/4" on the inside edge, 10 1/2" on the outer edge, 3" across and 1 3/4" wide. (Please note, our bracelets are unique and one of a kind, and the length and width can vary some. If you'd like exact measurements for a specific bracelet, please contact us before making your purchase.) Each bracelet is made using the locker hooking technique and has multiple fabrics and fibers from a variety of places - including some really unique & luxurious yarns.

Our bracelets are the perfect addition to your game day accessories. They are very versatile and can be worn with a t-shirt and jeans, at the office, or dressed up for a night out. Stack two bracelets together to make an even bigger statement!

Ruby Red Glass Floral Vase Filler

Pretty ruby red flat glass marbles! These would look beautiful as vase filler! Or use them in your next mosaic project! There are approximately 176 marbles total, and the total weight of the marbles is approximately 1 lb. 11 oz.

These have been used previously and show some signs of use. However, they are clean and ready for you to use. They would be great to use as vase filler but can also make a great addition to a craft project too!

This Turquoise and Purple Scrappy Felt Flower Pin Brooch will look fabulous on your favorite sweater or pinned to your favorite purse. The color palette is Purple Gumdrop. This pin is very versatile and can be worn year-round!

Our felt flower pin brooches measure approximately 2-1/2" long and 2-1/2" wide. (Please note, our felt pins are handmade, unique, and one of a kind so the size and shape can vary slightly.)

Our pins are carefully hand-cut from various pieces of felt and hot glued together to form the cute flower shape. A stainless steel pin is attached to the back of the petals so you can easily transfer the pin to your different outfits, handbags, hairbands, jackets, scarves, and hats. The possibilities are endless. They also make great gifts for teachers, neighbors, friends and family! Since the pins are made from felt, the entire flower is fairly lightweight and won’t distort the fabric you pin it to and the layering of petals gives the piece a stunning dimensionality.

Fenton Milk Glass Thumbprint Compote - Unmarked – Vintage

This vintage milk glass thumbprint compote is in excellent vintage condition and would make an excellent addition to your existing milk glass collection. We believe this is a Fenton piece, however, it is unmarked. Thinking of starting a milk glass collection, this would make a great starter piece. There are white "swirls" in the glass which we think gives the piece character.

It can be used in so many ways! Fill it with candy! Use it to hold your jewelry! Just sit it out and let it look pretty! Lots of uses!

This compote measures approximately 4 1/2” tall and approximately 4 1/4" wide at the top, 3 1/4" wide at the base.

This piece is in excellent vintage condition. There are no chips or cracks.

This is an absolutely adorable piece of Fenton milk glass! Check it out in our shop!

Milk Glass Doric Lace Pattern Crimped or Ruffled Compote Bowl - Westmoreland Crystal – Vintage

This lovely milk glass doric lace pattern crimped or ruffled compote bowl is approximately 7 1/2" tall and 9 1/2" wide. The base is approximately 4 1/4" wide. The pedestal has three legs/columns and a round foot with open lace design. There is a WG marking from Westmoreland Glass Company on the bottom of the bowl.

This piece is in excellent vintage condition overall. There are approximately seven, very small, yellow spots in the bowl and a 1/2” long, light tan, thin mark on the outside.

This super cute compote would make an excellent addition to your existing milk glass collection. Thinking of starting a milk glass collection, this would make a great starter piece. It would look lovely filled with fresh fruit! Or use it as a serving dish at your next party!

This is another beautiful piece! Love the ruffled look!

Got Milk? Milk Glass That Is! We Do! Milk Glass Doric Lace Pattern Cupped Compote Bowl - Westmoreland Crystal – Vintage

As mentioned in the previous post, we added three new pieces of milk glass to our shop. We wanted to feature each piece in our blog separately, so we could share how beautiful each piece really is.

Milk Glass Doric Lace Pattern Cupped Compote Bowl - Westmoreland Crystal – Vintage

This lovely milk glass Doric lace pattern cupped fruit bowl/compote is approximately 7" tall and 9 3/4" wide. The base is approximately 4 1/4" wide. The pedestal has three legs/columns and a round foot with open lace. There is a WG marking from Westmoreland Glass Company on the bottom of the bowl.

We consider this piece to be in fair condition and feel the price reflects these imperfections. There is a crack running through the bowl from side to side that you can somewhat feel with your fingernail. You can see it from the top in good lighting. It is barely visible from the bottom. There is a small amount of yellowing along the crack. The compote appears to be in stable condition with no signs of actual breakage. One of the legs has a yellowish mark on it. It might be a crack but doesn’t feel like one.

This is a great piece even with the imperfections! Check it out in our shop along with all the other vintage pieces we have! While you’re there, take a look at our handmade items also.
