El que se convirtiera en uno de los eventos más populares de música electrónica en Guatemala durante los primeros años de la década pasada, el Rave del Castillo, regresa este 2 de febrero a su tradicional área de celebración —Turicentro del Castillo del Rey o Castillo del Cid, en Palencia, Guatemala—.

Esta es la novena edición, con tres diferentes ambientes y bajo la producción de Saga Crew y Monstruo Ink Global Culture. La primera de esta fiesta electrónica se celebró en el 2000. A partir de entonces se desarrolló en forma anual hasta el 2008, cuando los organizadores decidieron ponerlo en pausa.

“Queríamos cultivar la leyenda de lo que ha sido uno de los eventos más populares de música electrónica de Guatemala y Centroamérica, haciendo así crecer las ansias por nuevas generaciones de vivir y compartir este momento en la música. Este encuentro representa la unión de las generaciones maduras con las más jóvenes”, explicó José Echevarrieta, Joserra, uno de los organizadores.

Renovados

Junto con el cambio de era maya, la intención de devolver el Rave del Castillo a los amantes del género justo este año es también para celebrar esta nueva era.

“Queremos festejar con todos nuestros hermanos centroamericanos el inicio de la Nueva Era. Este festival congrega a gente ansiosa por disfrutar de esta música con comodidad y en un ambiente adecuado. Nos pareció que era el momento ideal”, afirmó Joserra.

Novedades

La edición actual contará con el montaje más grande que se ha hecho hasta el momento.

“Para la gente que no sabe de qué se trata, el Rave del Castillo tiene tres escenarios simultáneos que le dan al público la opción de crear su propio horario y así observar a los músicos que desee en las distintas áreas”, explicó.

Habrá 10 artistas nacionales y 11 internacionales. Además vendrá desde Costa Rica el equipo de decoración Pysco Tropic. El sonido en los tres escenarios será del sistema Line Array (Sonido Aéreo), lo cual garantiza la excelencia en cada uno de ellos.

Por primera vez se tendrá un área de kioscos para adquirir artesanías, ropa de la tienda Rolling Store y ropa Psychedelic, gracias a la Tienda Psyco Tropic de Costa Rica.

Juan Carlos Paz Bonatto was born in 1982 in Guatemala City. His electronic music career started in 2003 as a DJ, influenced by psychedelic sounds. He evolved into an artist and eventually began to produce his own sounds, first forming part of the Solar Plexus Project, then later expanding his creativity through the creation of the Kosmic Wizard project. We can appreciate this project as a fusion of minimal and electro with psychedelic soundscapes to complement his tracks, creating a very innovative sound.

Cosmic Iron

Cosmic Iron is Dmitri Matskin. Dima was born in Ukraine Nikopol 1979, and arrived to Israel in 1994.
As he arrived, he started listening to trance music and fell-in-love with this culture and has been going & playing in parties until now.

This man has a wide range of musical abilities ranging from participating in live bands, to producing chillout, full on and dark psytrance.

Tambour Battant

Tambour Battant is a duo of Ben and Nico, two drummers training from the region of Avignon. Through their musical discoveries of rock, rap, electro and drum'n'bass, they decided to create their own breakbeats on a Yamaha sampler.

Living in Paris since 2004, their live appearances based improvisations are highly appreciated. Their debut album, The Missing Link (2008) is a sample of their various styles.

In 2009, Drum Beating sensation in Bourges. A few months later fate Chip Jockey (Expressillon), with the participation of Gérard Baste (eg Svinkels).

Francis Davila

Born in Guatemala City, this 29 year old, began his career as a Dj and producer in 1998. His first approach to the electronic music scene was when he started performing his live act with a set of synthesizers and samplers in night clubs and raves. Weekend after weekend, he made his name renowned, becoming a strong foundation for the scene.

As he became more experienced with his live act performance, he was exposed to the sound of house music and made it his own. He travelled to the US, and got influenced by San Francisco's music scene. He got in touch with the djing culture and its magic, and that's when he found out, that he wanted to be part of it.

Francis Davila is also recognized in the latin world as one of the best performer and producer in the electronic music scene, and has been named by the world famous German DJ, Paul Van Dyk, as "one of his favorite DJs".

His music has been played and mixed by some of the most popular Djs around the world, and many of his songs have remained for long periods of time in the Top-10 most requested songs on radio stations in Guatemala. He had successful international releases through various record labels.

Ernesto Claramount

Ernesto, has been in the electronic music scene for 14 years now. At the beginning of his career, after being a guitar enthusiast for many years during his teenage highscholl-college years , started to get interested in electronic music, this was thanks to producers such as The Prodigy, Depeche Mode, Fatboy Slim, Cassius, and many others from around the year 2001.

In later years, Ernesto was influenced by producers that actually made him understand electronic music, such as Danny Tenaglia, Steve Lawler, Erick Morillo, James Holden, Gabriel Ananda, Dominik Eulberg, John Dahlback, and many others.

This was a new way of life for Ernesto, electronic music was a very new way of enjoying music in the region, mostly Latin America . Ernesto got a pair of basic mixers and players off the internet, and started to teach himself how to mix beats.

Around 2006 Ernesto was starting to get involved and djing in very important gigs in the region. In 2007 and 2008 was invited to one of the biggest electronic music festivals in central America, Rave del Castillo, as well opening acts for international djs in Central American countries.

In the year 2008 Ernesto starts his producer career , creating and collaborating with very important producers around the region of Central America. By this time Ernesto has mixed his beats in almost all the major clubs and venues in the region. Invited to hundreds of radio shows and special guest in many major gigs to promote electronic music!

2010 Ernesto creates the overcoming and now one of the most promising outgoing labels in the industry MadRat Productions. This label was specially created to promote and unite electronic music of Central America with the world. MadRat Pro has now been able to make gig collaborations with Definitive Recordings, Beatport, Juno Download, just to name a few, thanks to MadRat

2012 Ernesto having a major in Public Relations and Communications, was able to reach top promoters and record labels to support him, and is now reaching major leagues in the electronic music scene, opening acts for producers such as Olivier Giacomotto and Damon Jee

NOW , Ernesto is having the best time of his career and not stopping here, there are many releases to come and will be available in all the major digital download sites , as well as many major events with international and regional producers await.

Since he has focused on his solo career, Wapi plays an edgy rap, accompanied by seriously heavy basslines, futuristic synth sounds, and of course the samples of the imaginative duo "Tambour Battant". Faithful to his musical education, Wapi combines all kinds of influences into a musical patchwork that sounds massive! From jazzrap to electro and of course hip hop samples, his tracks are heavy, his lyrics are edgy and to top it all his flows precise and hard hitting.

MC, producteur et auteur, WAPI a pendant plusieurs années erré entre le jazzrock et la drum&bass, s imprégnant toujours des sons qui l entouraient. Depuis qu il se focalise sur son projet perso, Wapi produit un rap incisif agrémenté de bass lourdes et de synthés futuristes le tout samplé par un duo de producteurs à l imagination débordante : Tambour Battant. Fidèle à son éducation musicale, WAPI n hésite pas à faire un véritable patchwork de sons aussi variées que diversifiés au service de prods massives. Du jazzrap à l électro en passant évidemment par des samples hiphop, ses morceaux envoient du lourd, ses textes tranchent et son flow précis est la cerise sur un gâteau franchement copieux et surtout bon.

Su verdadero nombre es Luis Meza. La primera parte de su apelativo artístico obedece a la búsqueda de algo simple, según explica, y la segunda parte es la manera como se le llama a los DJs en Jamaica.

Uno de los logros más importantes de esta década de esfuerzos es la grabación del disco digital Any Sound Test Dead, con una disquera de Los Ángeles. La producción, que contiene 10 cortes y que se dio a conocer en diciembre pasado, puede obtenerse en tiendas de descargas electrónicas como Beatport, JunoDownload y DigitalTunes, entre otras.

Los inicios

Aunque las inclinaciones de Meza, en un principio estaban orientadas al hip hop, se vio atraído por losskratch de los DJs. “Empecé a asistir a los raves en El Castillo y a fiestas clandestinas que se organizaban en bodegas de la zona 1”, relata.

En sus inicios como DJ empezó produciendo Drum and bass, para posteriormente, hace unos cinco o seis años, integrarse al movimiento Ragga Jungle.

En ese tiempo organizó varios crews de DJs, por lo que en la actualidad es fundador del equipo Bass Supremacy, también integrado por DJ Anderson, DJ Dubby Dub, con quienes actuará el próximo fin de semana.

Una de las características que lo distinguen, según sus propias palabras, es que él es uno de los pocos que aún toca vinil en Guatemala. “Tratamos de mantener esa vibra para que la gente mire a un DJ que toca acetatos, así como fue y como debería ser”, sentencia. “Ahora muchos tocan con laptops y ya ni usan sus audífonos. Lo único que hacen es apachar un botón. Nosotros tratamos de mantener la esencia del verdadero DJ”, agrega.

Para el show del 11, anuncia: “Voy a armar mi set con un 50% de canciones mías, originales, y el otro 50 con música de productores ingleses. Habrá un montón de scratch, que es el sello que me distingue”.

Invitado especial

Uno de sus acompañantes en el Love Fest también pertenece al grupo Bass Supremacy. Su nombre verdadero es Juan Pablo Pendo. Inició su carrera en 2005, luego de haber pertenecido al grupo Dubvolution,como guitarrista. Cuenta que mientras laboraba en un bar de Cuatro Grados Norte, veía el trabajo del DJ de turno y le atrajo, por lo que empezó a experimentar.

“Empecé a oír reggae y eso me fue llevando a diferentes géneros hasta que me encontré con el dub. Eran remezclas de lo que ya había oído; me gustó más. De ahí empecé con el Drum and Bass y el Jungle”,explica.
