The green pastures and idyllic barnyard scenes portrayed in children's books have been replaced by windowless sheds, tiny crates, wire cages, and other confinement systems integral to what is now known as "factory farming."

Today the majority of farmed animals are:

* confined to the point that they can barely move,
* denied veterinary care,
* mutilated without painkillers,
* and finally slaughtered -- often while fully conscious.

Fortunately, each one of us has the power to help end this suffering by simply choosing to eat vegetarian.

Ohio Fresh Eggs Investigation.

Reasons Not to Eat Fish

1 can of tuna per week can increase your mercury level by 30%!

Tortured by Tyson

Kosher Slaughter

Cage Free Eggs

Famous Vegans

Choosing to go vegetarian is simply a matter of living according to the values so many of us hold dear, such as being fair and kind to others. Most people would never dream of cramming up to 11 egg-laying hens into a file drawer-sized cage, ripping the testicles out of a screaming baby piglet, or cutting the throat of a cow as she stares back at you with her big brown eyes. How then, as compassionate individuals, can we justify paying others to carry out these atrocities on our behalf?

The average vegetarian spares the lives of over 50 animals each year. That adds up to thousands during a lifetime. Every time we eat, we are making a powerful choice that has profound consequences on the lives of animals. At each meal, we make a decision between supporting cruelty or living compassionately.

Meat production requires more land and energy than plant foods.

Animal foods are also one of the leading causes of global warming.

According to Livestock's Long Shadow, a groundbreaking 2006 United Nations report, raising animals for food causes more global warming than all the cars, trucks and planes in the world combined.

In many cases, the carbon footprint is even greater for organic animal products. A 2007 report commissioned by the British government found that organic milk actually generates 20% more CO2 than conventionally produced milk, and organic chickens generate 45% more CO2 than hens raised in battery cages and barns.

In contrast, researchers at the University of Chicago calculated that eating a vegan diet prevents the equivalent of 1.5 tons of CO2 emissions every year - even more than the 1 ton of CO2 emissions prevented by switching from a large sedan to a Toyota Prius.

FAQ

What about “free-range” eggs?
In many commercial “free-range” or “cage-free” egg farms, hens are crowded inside windowless sheds, packed nearly wing to wing, with little or no access to the outdoors. Just like battery cage hens, “free-range” hens are sent to slaughter once their egg production declines and their baby brothers are disposed of at the hatchery. The best thing consumers can do is avoid eggs completely.

What about plants? Don't plants have feelings too?
While it is possible that plants have sensitivities that we do not yet understand, plants do not have a central nervous system and it is generally agreed upon in the scientific community that plants are incapable of suffering.

Usually, this issue is not really raised as a concern, but more of an excuse or justification since few people truly believe that plants feel pain. However, if one really is concerned about plants suffering, adopting a vegetarian or vegan diet actually reduces the number of plants killed, since animals must be fed huge quantities of grasses and grains to be converted into small quantities of meat, milk, and eggs.

Don’t farmers have to treat their animals well or they won’t produce as much milk or lay as many eggs?
Animals on factory farms do not gain weight, lay eggs, and produce milk because they are comfortable, content, or well cared for but, rather, because they have been manipulated specifically to do these things through genetics, medications, hormones, and management techniques. In addition, animals raised for food today are slaughtered at extremely young ages, usually before disease and misery have decimated them. Such huge numbers of animals are raised for food that it is less expensive for farmers to absorb some losses than it is to provide humane conditions.

What will we do with all the animals if everyone goes vegetarian? Wouldn’t they take over?
It's unrealistic to expect that everyone will stop eating animals overnight. As the demand for meat decreases, the number of animals bred will decrease. Farmers will stop breeding so many animals and will turn to other types of agriculture. When there are fewer of these animals, they will be able to live more natural lives.

Animals kill other animals for food, so why shouldn't we?
Predators in the wild kill other animals out of necessity. Without doing so, they would not survive. Humans, on the other hand, kill other animals by choice. Our bodies have no need for animal flesh, milk, or eggs. In fact, medical research has consistently shown that a vegan diet is healthier than a diet heavy in animal products. Eating animals is not necessary for human survival. Rather, it is a choice we make. Only Himalayan Sea Salt.

See for yourself!
"You can make this test at home with vinegar. Take two glasses and add one inch of vinegar to each. Then, in one glass add two tablespoons of regular table salt and the same amount of fine crushed Himalayan crystal salt into the other glass. You will see how the regular table salt will start to foam, (depending on the substitutes used in refining), emitting aggressive chemical gases and how the crystal salt will sink to the bottom and dissolve without any reaction. The reactions in your body are similar. Just as with the vinegar and table salt, your body must sacrifice its own precious energy to neutralize the salt.
