I assume you have read my previous post titled pursuit of happiness in the realm of ego and know that your ego’s main business is to either perpetuate your position in your social ladder or better try to climb this. In the process your ego makes you go through a rainbow of emotions both negative and positive, from jealous to sense of success. Most of these emotional states lead to some action towards strengthening your position in the society. Inferiority complex is one such negative state, but the problem with this state is your ego fail to lead you into any positive action.

The emotion of inferiority happens when you are in presence of someone whom you deem superior to you in some aspect, most probably in wealth, position, or looks. If you are a teenager it is most often the looks but in middle age it is wealth and position of the other person which makes you feel inferior. Your ego knows when to accept superiority of others and when to compete and accordingly it produces emotions in you, but you feel no such acceptance or sense of direction to compete when you feel inferior.

Your ego is not to be blamed here. This situation develops when your ego knows that you have the capacity and actually pursue bigger goals but it also knows you lack the sense of direction in your life. You lack a purpose in your life. Your friend may be a real estate broker and made a lot of money and in good social position. You bound to feel inferior to him because though you know real estate is not your cup of tea, you failed to take hold of your “cup of tea and try to enjoy it” whether it may be writing a novel or music.

Lack of life’s purpose and a great self image and self esteem and lack of confidence in your abilities to achieve the goals you set for yourself leads to feeling inferior

We often see people comparing film star to a soldier and posting Facebook messages. This is height of stupidity. A soldier will never compare himself to a film star, he has a purpose in his life and he is proud of his life. Develop a strong purpose in your life and start working towards that goal and like a magic you will find your friend’s wealth and position stops bothering you.

Lack of life’s purpose and a great self image and self esteem and lack of confidence in your abilities to achieve the goals you set for yourself leads to feeling inferior to anyone who according to you is successful and is moving forward in their lives. To get rid of inferiority complex, focus on your life rather than others. Focus on goals of every aspect of your life including health, financial, social, relationships etc. Have clear vision of the future you want to yourself and start moving forward in that direction.

Once you achieve this vision and direction, your ego stops acting in “comparison mode.” And with this, the feelings of inferiority complex seldom set in social encounters. Achieving this vision and direction is a vast subject which cannot be covered in this small article. There are lot of books and articles available both online and offline on this subject which can help you.

Quest for spiritual meaning of life and practicing meditation and other spiritual practices is also an effective way to deal with ego caused pain in life. Joy is one emotion which is related to your spirit rather than ego. You feel egoless and there is no room for inferiority complex, but the subject of this blog is limited to experiment and see whether pursuing happiness in the world of ego is possible. Man as a social animal is ego driven and we want to lead a successful life in this world.

The Pursuit of Happiness in the Realm of Ego

There are many definitions for Ego which are easily available online. Now stop don't just go and Google "ego". The subject is so vast that once you start reading about ego written by great thinkers and not so great wiki publishers, you will forget this blog completely. Which I don't want you to do.

For convenience, if you already know about ego" I want you to completely forget for time being about Sigmund Freud's "ego" which is too complex and the spiritual ego of the eastern religions which is too……. "spiritual".

Once again for our convenience, let us give a definition to ego which is completely different from that of Freud's ego and a little different from the spiritual ego. According to Mr Soham (that's me.... my ego rather), ego is that part of your psyche which is the caretaker of your existential position in this concrete jungle. Its main duties are two, one to make you perpetuate your position and two make you to climb the ladder towards higher positions. It continually scans for adversity and opportunity. It continuously is in the "comparing with others" business and makes you restless commanding you to do something or lose your position and forget about the social ladder. For some strange reasons the ego maintains its business only within the boundaries of your social stratum. It hardly thinks about the strata above and below the layer of society you are in. It just wants you to be the fittest animal of the society always climbing to the top. The better you are at this climbing job the happier your ego is with you. Ego don't think about greater heights than your immediate society because it does not like the word "risk". Remember its first duty is to perpetuate your position in the society not to risk it.

This blog's aim is not the joy of the realm of the soul but the pursuit of happiness in the kingdom of ego.

Ego reacts to any adversity with the feelings of fear, anxiety, anger, jealousy etc and for any gain in the position it feels happy. The emotion of joy does not belong to ego, it is something which the soul experiences. Ego will never let you to do great things... because of the danger of losing your position. To achieve great things, you need listen to your soul not your ego. Anyone who experienced the realm of soul, would like to stay there and not come back to the kingdom of ego. Once you reach a higher state of consciousness, you will never be happy with the lower states. To reach this higher level of consciousness, you need to get into a state of egolessness where there is no more "comparison business".

In the words of Eckhart Tolle "To become free of the ego is not really a big job but a very small one. All you need to do is be aware of your thoughts and emotions – as they happen. This is not really a 'doing' but an alert 'seeing'. In that sense, it is true that there is nothing you can do to become free of the ego. When that shift happens, which is the shift from thinking to awareness, an intelligence far greater than the ego's cleverness begins to operate in your life. Emotions and even thoughts become depersonalized through awareness. Their impersonal nature is recognized. There is no longer a self in them. They are just human emotions, human thoughts. Your entire personal history, which is ultimately no more than a story, a bundle of thoughts and emotions, becomes of secondary importance and no longer occupies the forefront of your consciousness. It no longer forms the basis for your sense of identity. You are the light of Presence, the awareness that is prior to and deeper than any thoughts and emotions."

Impressed.... go find a spiritual guru.... or continue reading.

Are you feeling unease after reading the above paragraph by Eckhart Tolle, that's your ego acting on you. It sees danger in you becoming free of ego. Anyone who experienced love knows what joy is and what egolessness is all about albeit momentary before coming back to your ego state and demanding ego satisfaction from the relationship.

But the aim of this blog is not spirituality. Not everyone suffers because of their ego. People suffer only the ego is not properly programmed or gets corrupted and starts acting strangely resulting in negative emotional states like social anxiety, inferiority complex, low self-esteem, addiction etc which eventually destabilizes the social position in turn making the ego go mad. This blog's aim is not the joy of the realm of the soul but the pursuit of happiness in the kingdom of ego.

I strongly don’t believe that Self-Discipline is a habit or
something we develop. We are disciplined
because something more important motivates us to be disciplined. For me it is our core values which are
responsible for my self-discipline.

In spite of your core values manifesting in self-discipline,
there will be days when you digress. I
do digress; I believe there is no harm in digressing a little now and then but not
any longer because the sense of “who I am” rebels against the digression, and I
come back into my discipline mode.

Recently, I saw a scroll hanging on the wall of my friend’s
office. Written on that scroll are some
Japanese symbols or characters (he said so I don’t know the difference between
Chinese and Japanese characters). I
asked him about the scroll. He said the
symbols on the scroll mean self-discipline in Japanese and it will remind him
of the self-discipline he needs to maintain.

That sounded crazy to me because you know what
self-discipline is according to me. How can a bunch of meaningless symbols (the scroll looked beautiful though)make me stay
self-disciplined? Being a close friend I
expressed my thoughts to him. His reply
made me change my opinion. He said three
things, one it is not as easy to maintain self-discipline in this information
era as it was in Iron Age or even industrial age. There are thousands of things
trying to get your attention, television, hoardings, continuously ringing mobile
phones, SMS, facebook, messengers. Everybody
wants your attention and want you be as undisciplined as possible; two, when
people can see God in a symbol why cannot a symbol remind me of
self-discipline. I have the scroll on
the wall long enough that it represents self-discipline to me. Pretty convincing
isn’t it?

You might be wondering why self-discipline is a myth and how
you can become successful without it. To explain am taking the subject of exercise and the inability to regularly exercise. Everyone who is a fan of martial arts movies from Hong Kong knows what discipline and self-discipline are. Let us for sometime believe that there is something called
self-discipline. Let us also believe that your are an undisciplined person and you have failed
for years to stick to regular exercise regime to stay fit and healthy. Every time you read an article, a book, or
attend a seminar on fitness, you get enough motivation and enthusiasm to start
exercising which for some reason fail to last long.

Self-Discipline Is External Manifestation of a “Core Value”. Anything Else is a Myth.

You decide that you are lacking of something and decide to
know what is that you are lacking. In
your office at tea break you tell your problem to one of your colleagues whom you
know stays fit and healthy through regular exercise regime. He tells that what you lack is a self
discipline. The word self-discipline
carries a lot of positivity that makes you feel with enough self-discipline you
can achieve anything in your life. In
spite of the positive feelings it can arouse, you don’t know what self-discipline
is and how to achieve it. So you embark
on your quest for self-discipline.

That same evening you switch on your computer and Google
with words “how to develop self-discipline”.
That gives a lot of results and you start reading the top few articles
and make notes about the things you need to do to develop self-discipline. Among the top is Steve Pavlina’s very big article
about how to develop self-discipline.
You read the definition that he gives for self discipline “Self-discipline
is the ability to get yourself to take action regardless of your emotional
state” a wonderful one and then you scan through the “remaining” five pages of
the article. At this point, something
inside you tells you that if you had enough self-discipline to follow through
the five-page advice and practice, you actually don’t need to advice. So you decide to go to the next result Google
has thrown at you.

“Put First Things First” is a core value which results in Self-Discipline.

The next link you click open is that of Peter Clemens who says
“Self-discipline involves acting according to what you think instead of how you
feel in the moment. Often it involves sacrificing the pleasure and thrill of
the moment for what matters most in life. Therefore it is self-discipline that
drives you to:” Once again very positive and impressive one and know you can
achieve anything with enough self-discipline. Personally I rate this above Mr
Pavlina’s. After reading a few more
articles on how to develop self discipline, you know that is self discipline
is. It is acting in spite of your
feelings or what is called generally “a negative State of mind and body”.

At this point, as Peter Clemens talks about self knowledge
and conscious awareness, you try to look back and understand why you stop
exercising after few days. You become
aware that it is not your negative state but the fact that you lose whatever
initial enthusiasm and motivation slowly over a period of time. How long you last depends on how strong the initial
motivation was. So you know what you need is enough motivation to last for a
period of time till daily exercise becomes a habit. You decide to come back to Self Discipline
when some negative state stops you from exercising. With this decision, you start reading about
the benefits or exercise and other healthy habits. You print out a copy of “fitness
quotes” and paste it in front of your desk.
Overtime, health and fitness become your predominant thoughts and you
decide to start exercising and join a gym for four days per week regimen. You make friends with fellow gym attendees. This time you find yourself lasting
longer. After a couple of months you
find the fitness quotes are not arousing any motivational feelings as they used
to in the early days, so you remove the copy you pasted. Somehow you continue to work four days per
week but the initial enthusiasm is not there.
You start skipping few sessions of your regime as you just do not feel
like going all the way to the gym.

You can stick to new Habits only with Simultaneous Shift in your Value System.

At this point, you know that it is not just lack of
motivation but some internal resistance is working against you. You start thinking once again about
self-discipline and decide to continue with your exercise regime come what may.
Once you have decided to continue, your mind looks for reasons to continue… oh
yes you have already paid for the gym instruction this month’s fee. You will lose that money if you stop now.

As you are struggling to maintain your self-discipline, one
fine Sunday afternoon browsing the internet, you come across an article by
Soham who says Self-Discipline is a myth and you can succeed without it. You try to know his arguments against
self-discipline and especially you want to know how you can succeed without
self-discipline.

And what he says is this:

Once all types of motivations wean off, the resistance
takes the upper hand and it is actually the resistance which manipulates your
thoughts and your body reacts accordingly resulting in an awful mood. When you decide to act in spite of the awful
mood, through conscious awareness of your thoughts you will find that your
thoughts somehow become positive motivating you to act.

Creating a habit like regular exercise for someone with
sedentary lifestyle is like climbing uphill and knowing that there is a treasure
trove on the other side of the hill. You
will continue to climb in spite of the hurt and resistance from your body to
stop. You may stop for a while to regain your breath, but the motivation is
strong enough that you continue to go uphill. There will be a conflict between
feeling and motivation. Your motivation
should be strong enough to always win. Is
the treasure trove of health and fitness strong enough motivation for you?

Strong Burning Desires manifest in Self Discipline.

Know which the best form of exercise for you. Which type of exercise gives you positive
feelings after the session? This makes
climbing the hill easier and weans of the resistance as days goes by. Once this becomes a habit, a completely
different set of motivations starts acting on you. Motivation is something which makes you act
against the inertia. The secret of
success is keep you motivated all the time and see that motivation should be
strong enough to make you act in spite of your mood.

Here are some of motivators (according to webmd.com) which
regular exercisers ranked and listed

Fitness

Feelings of well-being

Pep and energy

Enjoyment of the exercise

Making exercise a priority

Sleeping better

Feeling alert

Being relaxed

Weight management

Appearance

Make sure that at the end of each session of exercise you
have a feeling of having or in the process of having these results.

Self discipline is a myth because if there is no positive change
in your thoughts and bodily sensations motivating you when you decide to act,
you can never act. Even if we have a
disciplined life, that discipline itself is motivated by our value system.

Everyone who is a fan of martial arts movies from Hong Kong knows what discipline and self-discipline are, but looking closer you can see and feel the motivation, the motivation to achieve, motivation through value system, through habits, through the final goals, through the feeling of well being, through the enjoyment of exercise etc.

Update

Before and after writing the previous article saying
self-discipline is a myth, I read many articles on developing self-discipline almost
everyone thought that self-discipline is a habit or something (like a muscle
which we can develop). This is a myth. Most of the writers disagreed with me. Some of them refused to publish my
comment.

“YOU” are a lot more than a bunch of nerves and chemicals.

Self-discipline is external manifestation of internal value
system. It is hard to develop
self-discipline if it does not come from your
"core values". Or else,
you will continue to depend on mortgage statement. A self disciplined man's internal compass refuses
turn towards distractions. Trying to
develop it like “building a muscle” (as Steve Pavlina said) is a myth and only leads
to failure.

What is Stress?

Stress is physical, emotional, or mental pressure affecting a person. Stress is a part of almost everyone's life and it may be work related or family related or a situation related. Stress is a nonspecific response to internal or external stimuli. Stress is not contained in what happens to you, but is the way you respond to what happens to you. You can choose the way to response, and the choice is yours.

The way in which we interpret events happening around us may entirely determine whether we respond to them in a stressed manner or not. It is entirely in our hands to choose a better way of response. It is said that when you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it then change the way you think about it. It is easier to change the attitude than trying to change the object, person, situation, or behavior of the other.

One cannot avoid stress, because many stress inducing factors are unavoidable, but stress can be contained and can be managed. Stress makes you tired, exhausted, fatigued, irritable, frustrated and unhappy. The ability and effectiveness of a person gets affected due to stress. Stress cannot be avoided in these modern days but can be managed.

Causes of Stress:

When the attention of the individual is always projected outwards in the field of action, the unlimited potential of life gets limited. When the potential of Awareness gets limited then the Creativity gets cramped, restricted and the individual becomes fatigued and stressed.

Loss of wealth, illness or injury to the body, death of near and dear ones, separation from friends and relatives, entering into a new job, retirement from the job, change of place, things, people, situations, financial status, living conditions, etc can cause stress.

Worry, anxiety, fear, anger lack of clear goals, incomplete works, rejection, denial of facts, can cause stress.

Family environment, biological makeup, individual psychological system, competition, rules, heavy work, dishonesty, expectations, education, values etc may cause stress.

Many of the causes of stress cannot be avoided and hence should be managed.

Effects of Stress:

Physical disorders and psychosomatic diseases, split personality, schizophrenia, escapism with alcoholism and drug addition, withdrawal from duty and responsibility, fantasy (day dreaming), depression, tension (muscular, emotional and mental), emotional burnout, frustration, disturbance in relationships, loss of earnings, decreased productivity, accidents etc. Inability to conceive which we are dealing with in this blog is also considered to one of the effects of stress.

Remedies to Stress:

Awareness through mediation techniques, breathing techniques, simple diet, exercise, healing techniques, being goal oriented, watching cartoon movies, love, listening to good music, nature watching, thought observation , relaxation techniques, thought management, watchful walking (our favorite), yoga and witnessing life.

RELAXATION AND MEDITATION TECHNIQUES

I Sahaja Pranayama (Natural Breathing Technique):

This is most simple but very effective breathing technique taught along with yoga asanas. This relaxation method is done in seven steps which we are going to explain step by step.

Step 1: Sit in a comfortable position, keep your head and spine in a straight line, place the hands on the knees and close your eyes. You can do it also lying down straight.

Step 2: Become aware of your body, posture, feel your body from the tips of your toes to the top of your head. Feel the steadiness and the stillness of the body.

Step 3: Shift your awareness from the body to the breath. Simply become aware of the natural breathing process. Allow the breath to flow freely through both the nostrils. Just watch the breath, no other effort is required.

Step 4: Feel the touch of the breath at the entrance of the nose. Slowly follow the breath, take your awareness along the breath into the nostrils, into the windpipe, feel it near the throat, into the lungs. And then follow it back again up to the tip of the nose, feel the touch of the breath going out of the nose.

Step 5: If you awareness gets shifted to any thought or feeling, or any other thing, inside or outside the body simply observe it without any reaction, without any interpretation and slowly bring your awareness back to the breathing process.

Step 6: This step can be practiced if only you want to.

As you practice this technique more you will start recognizing that your consciousness and breath become one. Slowly you will feel the presence of a gap. You follow the breath and the breathing becomes deeper and deeper and your awareness, consciousness becomes deep and intense and then suddenly you will recognize that the breath before it returning back halts for a moment. Become aware of that gap. Similarly you will also notice a gap outside. You will observe that when the breath goes out of your nostrils there is a gap. Become aware of these two gaps. You will experience total relaxation of your body, prana and mind.

Step 7: After you practice the awareness of your breathing for a suitable period of time, then slowly shift the awareness from the breath on to the body, become aware of your body, feel the relaxation that pervades the entire body, and slowly open your eyes.

Happy relaxation and better chances of getting pregnant.

Wait a minute that's not all… we have two more methods of relaxation for you.

II Sulabha Dharana:

When you think of an object clearly in your mind, it is called dharana. It is also called imagination with a clear concept.

Step 1: Select any object like a lamp with light in it, your favorite deity, nice flower, beautiful scenery or just any word your favorite one.

Step 2: Sit quietly in a comfortable position. Follow the instructions mentioned in the "Sahaja Pranayama."

Step 3: Start feeling your body from the tips of your toes to the top of your head. Slightly move each part of your body with awareness and relax it.

Step 4: Breathe slowly and naturally. Practice sahaja pranayama for a few minutes.

Step 5: As you keep breathing, focus your mind's attention on to the selected object or any selected word.

i)Try to see the selected word clearly in your mind's eye (In order to make this easy you can write this on a paper, look at it for a few seconds and then close your eyes and see it in the mind's eye, this has to be done before you begin the Sulabha Dharana method so that it becomes easy to see the word when you reach the stage 5 of this technique). Visualize the word clearly.

ii) Understand the meaning of the word and try to repeat the word mentally. Do not move your lips or make any sound.

Step 6: Whatever happens to you, do not react, and simply observe the happening. At this moment anything and everything happening to you is right. Just accept it and observe it.

Step 7: Continue this method of imagination for a suitable period of time between 10 to 15 minutes and then slowly become aware of your breath, your body and then slowly open your eyes.

Now for the third method of relaxation.

III Sukha Dhyanam:

Step 1: Lie down straight with your back to the floor (Savasana). Use either a carpet or bed (don't sleep J).

Step 2: Make your body as comfortable as possible. Keep your feet apart, arms slightly away from your body, palms turned upwards. Close your eyes.

Step 3: Take a resolution in your mind that you will do this technique with total attention and awareness, easily and smoothly. You can repeat this resolution three times. The mind then gets ready for the practice.

Step 4: Practice sahaja pranayama for a few minutes.

Step 5: Tense each part of your body and release the tension; you will immediately feel the relaxation. Toes, soles, heels, ankles, calf muscles, knees, thighs, hips, waist, back, stomach, chest, shoulders, fingers, palms, wrists, elbows, armpit, throat, neck, chin, lips, teeth, cheeks, ears, nose, nostrils, eyes, temples, forehead, top of the head.

Step 6: Get back to your Sahaja pranayama. Keep practicing it and now become aware of each part of the body from the tips of the toes to the top of your head. Recognize and identify the accumulation of any kind of stress, strain, tension in these parts and then take a resolution in the mind that the stress, strain and tension will go away from that part of the body and relaxation will settle in their place in that part of the body.

This is called thought message. Do this to every part of your body and you can clearly experience the total relaxation of your body. Take some pauses when you shift you thought message from one part to another part of your body. Maintain stillness of your mind and body during these pauses.

Step 7: Get back to Sahaja Pranayama. While doing this in order to deepen the awareness you can follow the following points.

i) Become aware of the rising and falling of the navel. Just become aware of the natural rising and falling of the navel.

ii) Then become aware of the rising and falling of the chest.

iii) Become aware of the flow of breath at your throat.

iv) Become aware of the breath at the nostrils.

You can take pauses in between and remain still.

Step 8: Become aware of your Heart, Chest. Keep your awareness and attention focused on the chest for a few minutes. Simply be aware of your chest.

Step 9: Become aware of your body. Slowly, move your head to right and left, your feet forward and backward, open and close your fingers. Slowly turn to your right. Take the support of your right hand, try to get up and sit quietly for a minute, then get up and do your normal work.

In this information era, almost every smoker and nonsmoker knows the ills of smoking. More than the nonsmokers, smokers know how difficult it is to quit smoking. While quitting is the only best option for them to escape from the hundreds of ills of smoking from lung diseases to cancer and from bad breath to wasting hard earned money unconsciously, due to their inability to quit smoking completely some would like at least to cut down on smoking as much as they can. This would enable them to slow down the damage to their health and save a little more money (a lot if they are heavy smokers). I strongly believe the difficulty to quit smoking lies in the fact that when there is conflict between will power and imagination, often the imagination wins. The other reason I believe is that you cannot be the same person with the same self image or self identity with different habits. Your habits go well with your self image and smoking is one such habit.

Here is a wonderful method which will enable you to cut down smoking to more than half of your daily dose. I call it half Dyan method. It involves meditation, thought watch, belief strengthening, and imagination. This method is powerful because while following this method you will find transformation in your life, cutting down smoking and even quitting smoking is just of byproduct of this transformation. And more importantly, there will not be any conflict between your will power and imagination because I will not ask you to take help of your will power. This method as said earlier involves three steps.

1. Meditation:

You can start any type of meditation you are comfortable with, but my favorite method is fixing your attention between the eyebrows knows as Christ consciousness center. You have to do this meditation at least for 15 minutes twice everyday once in early morning and once before going to bed. If you are someone who never tried meditation, it will be very difficult to you to maintain your attention ever for a few seconds. It is the unpleasant feeling and restlessness in our mind and body which makes it hard to meditate. You have to get into the right state of mind before you start meditation. There are many websites online teaching how to prepare for meditation. I personal favorite preparation is affirmation method. Before starting meditation, close you eyes, take three deep breaths and say to yourself. "I am going to meditate for 15 minutes. Meditation will be very easy and smooth task for me. I feel completely at rest." This self affirmation makes meditation easy by removing the unpleasant feelings and restlessness. When you are keeping your attention on the Christ centre, thoughts continue to bombard from all directions. Do not fight with the thoughts, just try to bring back your attention again and again to the Christ centre and complete your meditation. Within a few days the thoughts and bodily uneasiness lessen, and you start enjoying meditation.

There are hundreds of benefits of daily meditation, one of them in decrease in the urge to smoke which naturally cut down the number of cigarettes every day. More as someone who meditates daily, there will be a shift in your self image which is quite different from the self image of a smoker and slowly the habit of smoking starts to leave. You will also starts enjoying many positive effects of meditation.

2. Thought Watch:

The second step to cut down smoking is thought watch. Once you start meditating, you will acquire the ability to watch your thoughts naturally. While you are trying to fix your attention on the Christ centre between your eyebrows, thoughts will be floating in to disturb you. This makes you become aware of your thoughts. You will be surprised to know that majority of thoughts are of no use to your personal life. Among these thoughts some have the ability to make you to start a dialogue with them. Once this happens, your stop being aware of your thoughts and you will forget your goal of meditating and start thinking actively for many seconds to few minutes before you realize that you forgot to meditate. Once you realize your consciousness is drifting away with your thoughts you try to come back to fix your attention on the Christ centre and within seconds you watch thoughts floating into your awareness.

As your experience grows in meditation your ability to fix your attention increases. In addition to this, your ability to be aware of your thoughts increases. You will become aware of the thought impulses which trigger the action of reaching for a cigarette. You will become aware of flashes of visual images of cigarette which leads you to automatically reaching for a cigarette. As you become more and more aware of your thoughts and start living consciously, the habit of smoking without any awareness decreases. This practice of thought watch further enables you to cut down your smoking. Nonetheless, if your addiction to cigarettes is very strong, you will still continue to smoke your active cigarettes.

Both meditation and thought watching exercises decrease the urge to smoke and decrease the number of cigarettes you smoke unconsciously without actually being fully aware of the act of smoking. This leads you to cut down more than half of your regular dosage of cigarettes. The benefits of meditation and thought watch are many and very powerful in changing in your life in a positive way, but for this post we will just concentrate on how they can help you in cutting down on smoking.

3. Belief Strengthening:

Belief strengthening is the only active step you are taking to cut down your smoking, but the previous two steps of meditation and thought watch gives to the strength and ability to be calm without any agitation and anxiousness you might otherwise experience by the thought of cutting down or quitting smoking.

Smoking is dangerous to health, smoking systematically and slowly decreases our stamina and decreases our quality of life and eventually kills us. Smoking is also wastage of money. Smoking is largely considered by the modern society as a bad habit of weak minded people who cannot control their urge. These are a few of many beliefs we have against smoking, but for this beliefs to motivate us to cut smoking and eventually quit smoking, we have to strengthen them and make them our core beliefs, the active belief which pops up in our mind whenever the thought of cigarette comes to our mind. To strengthen your belief you need to read a lot about the ills of smoking. One of the books which helped me cut down smoking and eventually quit is Allen Carr's, Easyway to Stop Smoking.

To strengthen my beliefs about smoking, apart from the knowledge I added vision and emotion to knowledge. I worked to develop negative bodily feelings linked to my beliefs to enable to cut down smoking before quitting altogether. Your beliefs about the negative effects of smoking should become strong with visual images and negative bodily sensations.

You have to bear in mind that you should not use your will power to cut down the cigarettes. If you practice these three steps regularly keeping your belief active, you naturally cut down your smoking without actively trying with your will power.

I have explained the half Dyan method in this post; the complete Dyan method apart from the three steps explained here, involves defining your ideal self, strengthening of core beliefs of your ideals self, strengthening the positive and empowering thoughts of your ideal self. Other steps in Dyan method involves identifying with your ideal self and complete transformation to a successful human being. I will be explaining about Dyan method in future posts in this blog. Don’t forget to subscribe.

Privacy Policy
