THQ dropping Devil’s Third, delaying South Park: The Game.

THQ’s latest investors call has revealed that, as part of cost cutting measures enforced on the company after the utter failure of uDraw at retail, the company plans to sell off Devil’s Third, stating that the game no longer fits the publisher’s “profitability profile.”

Devil’s Third was set to published by the company sometime next year, and is the first game from Vahalla Game Studios, which was founded by Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden creator Tomonobu Itagaki following his departure from Tecmo.

“The profitability profile for Devil’s Third no longer met our internal threshold and we are currently in discussions with third parties regarding the future of this title,” THQ’s President and CEO Brian Farrell said.

Along with this news, THQ also revealed that Obsidian’s next game, South Park: The Game has been delayed into 2013, joining Bioshock: Infinite and Tomb Raider.

We’re nearly at E3 time. Which also means it’s time for developers to decide whether their games are actually going to come out this year. Bioshock: Infinite isn’t, and neither is Tomb Raider, last seen at Microsoft’s E3 2011 presentation.

Crystal Dynamic’s studio head Darrell Gallagher had this to say:

“When Crystal Dynamics first set out to reboot the Tomb Raider franchise, there were two goals that we were extremely passionate about,” Gallagher wrote.

“The first was to create a modern Tomb Raider game that would surprise and excite gamers. The second was to make this the best game of our careers, something we would be really proud to be a part of. We truly believe that we have something very special on our hands and we can’t wait to share it with you.

“Our priority now is to make sure we fully deliver the very highest quality game. In order to do this, we have decided to move the game’s release date by a few months, from Fall 2012 to the first quarter of 2013. We’re doing things that are completely new to Tomb Raider in this game and the additional development time will allow us to put the finishing touches into the game and polish it to a level that you deserve. We believe this is the right choice and I guarantee it will be worth the wait. The game is looking amazing and we can’t wait to show it to everyone at E3 in a few weeks.”

So, any bets on what’s gonna be next? Don’t be silly, there’s no point taking bets. It’ll be Metal Gear Solid: Rising.

Bioshock Infinite pushed to February, skipping E3.

Irrational Games have unleashed a double whammy on Bioshock fans today, after revealing that the game has been pushed from October to February of next year. As if that wasn’t bad enough, you won’t even be able to satiate your desire with new media at E3, because the game is skipping the event entirely.

The move, Ken Levine says, will allow the team to make Bioshock Infinite “even more extraordinary.”

“When we announced the release date of BioShock Infinite in March, we felt pretty good about the timing,” he said.

“Since then, we’ve come to realize that some specific tweaks and improvements will make Infinite into something even more extraordinary. Therefore, to give our talented team the time they need, we’ve decided to move the game’s release to February 26, 2013. We wanted to let our loyal (and very patient!) fans know this as soon as possible.

“I won’t kid you: BioShock Infinite is a very big game, and we’re doing things that no one has ever done in a first-person shooter. We had a similar experience with the original BioShock, which was delayed several months as our original ship date drew near. Why? Because the Big Daddies weren’t the Big Daddies you’ve since come to know and love. Because Andrew Ryan’s golf club didn’t have exactly the right swing. Because Rapture needed one more coat of grimy Art Deco. “The same principle now applies to BioShock Infinite.
“What does this mean for you? It means a bit more waiting, but more importantly, it means an even better BioShock Infinite. The great can be made greater, and we owe it to both ourselves and to you, our fans, to take this opportunity. Irrational Games is one of those rare developers lucky enough to ask the people who sign the checks: ‘Hey, can we have a few more of those checks?’”

There’ll be no appearance at Gamescom either, as Levine says that preparing for events such as E3 or Gamescom take up precious development time.

February 26th, 2013 is the new date to remember.

Elder Scrolls Online officially announced.

It’s been coming for a while, but today is the day Bethesda have decided to take the wraps off it’s long in development Elder Scrolls MMO.

According to Game Informer’s reveal, The Elder Scrolls Online is set roughly 1000 years prior to the events of Skyrim, with daedric prince Molag Bal attempting to incorporate Tamriel into his demonic realm. Zenimax Online Studios are handling development (and have been for a while) with former Mythic Matt Frior at the helm.

As you’d expect, it’ll include solo questing, public dungeons and world pvp that pits the three player factions against each other over the province of Cryodill and the Emperor’s throne.

A teaser trailer is set for release sometime tomorrow, and Game Informer will have a ton of features over the next month on their Elder Scrolls Online hub.
