This morning we had a great presentation by FBI Special Agent Alan Vanderploeg on CyberSecurity. We had about 115 people attend this presentation and we were all very impressed by the information given and by Agent Vanderploeg who made learning about this serious subject fun.

He shared with us some counter measures we can take to protect ourselves from Cyber Crime.

I am excited about the Jan. 9 meeting. Pearl Diaz, a Pima County technology librarian will be presenting a program on all the online resources available through the Pima and Arizona library systems...and it's not just downloadable books. You can get a library card with your rent receipt and mail addressed to you at Tucson. For the program, bring your computer or device and your library card and Pearl will show you how to take advantage of the wealth of resources available.

Beautify the New Year...
Check out this website with lovely calendars to print for 2019. You will select the calendar, save each month as a picture in a file. Then you can print it. FYI, the Mission library at the corner of Ajo has a color printer which you can print the calendar for 10 cents a sheet. There are some calendars that your grandkids will love as well pretty ones for general use.

Spring is here and summer is right around the corner. Time to be sitting out observing the stars and that great big ball we call the moon. NASA has put together a video close-up tour of the moon so you can really see what you are looking at.

Some Moon facts

On average, the Moon is roughly 384,402 km away from Earth, or about 238,856 miles. The second-densest moon in our solar system (behind Jupiter's Io), it is 1/81 the size of Earth, which, relative to the planet it orbits, is pretty large by moon standards.

Though humanity has been studying the Moon for years, it was not until July 21, 1969, when Neil Armstrong walked on its surface, becoming the first man in history to do so. His Apollo 11 mission was the first of seven that were to send astronauts to the Moon, though Apollo 13 never made it.

In total, 12 people have walked on the Moon, with the last coming in 1972. Since then, many other countries have had missions involving the Moon, and there are more scheduled for the coming years.

Wednesday Meeting -- Please come!

This Wednesday at 7:00 pm, we will have a great program from our own Dave Kammer. He will give us insight into the myriad of Internet browsers. They are all a little different and some may be better for what you need.

The activity office has asked for a count of attendees in order to plan room arrangement for next year. We need a full room to indicate our need of the classroom, so don't miss meeting if possible. We will also discuss next year's plans, officers and meetings. We need everyone's input.

On Feb. 28, next meeting will be our yearly pizza party. Be sure to sign up at the meeting and if you want to bring someone that is not a member, it will be $5. We also have some entertainment planned that you don't want to miss.

We are very fortunate to be having David Freitag as our speaker on Wednesday, Jan. 31. He is a professor at Pima Community College here in Tucson who will give us an update on future technologies the students learn.

More than 25 years of experience in the Computer Software Industry with responsibilities that include programming, business and systems analysis, project management, supervision, and management. More than 17 years as a supervisor, manager, or Director in IT departments.

10 Incrediably Useful Low-tech Hacks for High-tech Gadgets You will be amazed at these easy tricks -- a"Why didn't I think of that" moment.

"You know that feeling you get when you have an A-HA! moment? Sometimes it comes after the simplest fix to something that's just been nagging you. It happens to all of us.

As we add to our collections of high-tech gadgets, I had a few A-HA! moments when I realized some everyday items can really help out with organization.

So I picked 10 pretty cool low-tech hacks that are super cheap (you probably have them in the house already) and so easy to do!

1. Don't Step on them!

Anyone with kids knows the horror of stepping on a stray lego. You really can't even put that pain into words. But here is a much better use for all of those lego figures you have laying around. The design of the "hands" make a perfect holder for computer cords! Just stand those little guys on your desk and let them do some work!

2. Super secret drawer

Forget about a junk drawer and create a tech drawer! This is a great way to make your own charging station that's hidden away. You can use hot glue or double-sided tape to secure a surge protector to the back and now you have a space for your phone, laptop and iPad.
