Yellow Flowers

These beautiful yellow flowers were found along a wooden fence along the sidewalk, and I just took a couple shots while waiting at the traffic light. I have no idea what they are called. They looked like roses, but the leaves and stem are not.

I would have loved to have macro shots, but it never seemed to work out, and by the time I came back the flowers were already went doorman. Maybe next year I can find the time to make a closer examination.

White Butterfly On Marigold

It is not true that marigold will deter critters away. I am telling you, I have planted marigold as border around my little garden, and still found critters of all sort coming to visit. I have seen birds hiding among the flowers trying to find something to eat, squirrels digging holes, and wings friend like this white butterfly loving marigold.

Closer to Butterfly

She was a great teaser! Flickering around as us blinking our eyes every second, but she did stop for a little nectar, and I got my snaps! They are not at all what I had hope to get, but still beautiful for what I could do. I am grateful for the opportunity to say the least.

Squirrel

Squirrels are fun to watch, and make a great subject to photograph. They are cute but very menace at the same time. They eat anything, from flower bulbs to flowers, and they dig holes all over the yard to bury their treasures.

Everyone seems to go "goo goo ga ga" when they see squirrels, but not for me! I've lost too many flower bulbs to welcome them in my yard. They ate my tulips, daffodils, lily plants, sunflowers, and gladiola bulbs to name just a few. What about you? Do you like squirrels?

Baby Sunflower

A tiny little yellow sunflower came up after waiting for months. Nothing seems to grow well this year but some were patience enough to make an entrance to the earth. Small and all, this yellow sunflower grew, bloomed, and very beautiful.

This sunflower was about 2 feet off the ground, but it had flower, which is amazing to see that though small, the beauty and joy that it brought to us is the same. Grow, baby, grow!

Purple Weed Flowers

Growing among the hostas plants are these purple weed flowers. They come back every year, and despite being pulled by the root, they still survived. Yes, they are very pretty to see, but if not controlled they can be very invasive.

Since they grow on this side of my house, and turning my driveway into a jungle, I had to pull them after taking a few pictures. Sure, I feel bad, but if you've heard "growing like weed", you would have no choice but to do the same.

Cabbage White Butterfly

This cabbage white butterfly has to be one of the most popular butterflies to see. They are everywhere, and in plenty, but they rarely landed at one spot for long. I am not sure what this white butterfly is eating from this mint leaf, but I was happy that she stopped for a few second.

I swear I saw her head turning around to look at me! Her eyes were glue on me for a while as if she was curious about me as much as I was of her. She was small and beautiful, and the sun on that day gave me such assistance on some clear photos.

Beautiful Hostas

I found that hostas flowers are hard to photograph as it grows vertically and the flowers spread out. Often I like to do macro shooting of just one single flower, but with hostas it doesn't show how pretty this flower really is.

Thus, I settled for the whole view, and to my surprise, it turned out beautiful. An entire side of my neighbor's house, these hostas flowers bloomed, and multiplied thicker each year. If they are not taking care of by thinning out, my driveway would be overwhelmed.

Pretty Bird

Spotting this bird in the shaded area on my walk, but not quite know the name. It was so pretty to see and very shy. I wanted a close up shot, and the bird didn't allow that to happen.

Pretty Mourning Dove

After searching the web, describing it in every which way that I could think of, I found out that this is a mourning dove. The name is quite peculiar to me, but the explanation was when they are calling for each other, their sound is sad..Hmm, I wish I could have heard their voice!

Red Gerbera Daisy

Red Gerbera

Yes, it is this red. It is this vibrant out in the middle of a very day. The color almost blinds me to see while trying to snap a few shots. In fact, I really didn't see much of what I was snapping due to the glare!

Side By Side

Out on an open field under the 100 plus degrees temperature, all the flowers looked unbelievably vibrant. I don't think it is the best time for photography, but my point and shoot camera just loves this kind of lighting on its automatic mode.

Macro of Red Gerbera Daisy

My aperture setting didn't give much of a choice either. The f-stop only could go so far and then stop. Thus, I might as well select the automatic mode. Aim, shoot, and hope for the best.

Question Mark Butterfly

Presenting to me one morning was this beautiful butterfly. She was in perfect shape and friendly. Landing right in front of my eyes, and allowed me to come very close for a photo session. I was told she is known as a question mark butterfly because of that white dot and a curve on her wings. Can you spot it?

She hung around this area for a long time, getting her tan and walking about. I was surprised that I could come so close to her to the point that I could even touch her or catch her.

This Side of Butterfly

I set my camera on burst mode, and ended up with more than 100 shots easily. My question mark butterfly was not shy and I was able to profile her in every possible side of her. Happy...happy I am!

Trying to Reach

With my point and shoot camera, I zoomed all the way to the moon! I want that one perfect shot. The moon is fascinating to see, and that sets my mind on its highest curiosity level. Will my camera deliver a photo that mind sees, or will it turn out better?

Deep Pink Peony Flower

Peony Bud

This peony bud was at my brother's house, and taken sometime in late May. I love the smell of peony flowers, and always felt bad for them as there were ants everywhere eating this plant.

Peony Begins to Open

But peony flowers are "super-duper" in nature, and they survived to give fragrance to the world. This was a really deep pink peony, and its head was huge. My brother said he only fed it used coffee ground.

The thousands petals in one peony was remarkable to see. When it was in full sun, the deep pink color looked almost red. I love the smell, but as cut flowers, peonies were not a good idea to bring inside the house, as ants will come out and invade your space.

Lady Cardinal

I have noticed something from this lady cardinal and her mate the cardinal, and that is they won't eat from the feeder, but prefer the seeds on the ground. They both came to where the feeders are, stayed on the fence, and made the calling noise, but wouldn't eat.

I actually had to put seeds on the ground for them. Wherever the lady cardinal went, so was her mate! They were such a beautiful and fun couple to watch. All of these shots were taken through my glass window with the burst mode setting on my camera.

Chasing after backyard birds can be lot of fun, and challenging! With a point and shoot camera, I don't have the option to change lens or settings. By the time I selected what I wanted, the bird would be no longer in sight.

Hanging Around the Fence

So I did the next best things: zoomed all the way in, and just pushed the button! My way to get birds to come into the yard was putting out feeders for them. Yes, when you live in a middle of a big city, you will have to be creative. And when you have a point and shoot camera, you just have to be sneaky! :-)

This is an interesting little blue flowers that I saw on my walk, and they were situated way back in the garden, I couldn't get a closer shot! Growing along with these blue flowers were fern and some other plants. It is rare to see blue flowers, and I like them.

Since this was an area close to my home, I knew these little blue flower plants came back every year. They are perennial, and didn't need much care as I see them like this for the past three years. Nothing was disturbed in this garden. Yet, the flowers thrive and lively!

Left-over Blooms

Spring was well out yielding for summer, and these once cherry blossoms have finally turned brown! Somehow, they were still beautiful and had a whimsical look about them when looking at them in the sun.

I saw this tree/plant on the school ground, and when shooting these pictures, and drawn quite a few amusing looks from the parents around me. I guessed they didn't see what I saw!

If I was alone when shooting these pictures, I would have come in for a macro shot of those little stamens of the left-over blossom. The brownish red of those stamens were beautiful against the green leaves.

Sunrise With Fantastic Colors

Blooming Trees

As soon as I parked, I noticed these beautiful blooming red trees that lined up by the fence! The color was so pretty, and eye catching. I had to tell my son to wait for me to take a few pictures. You know, I have come to this area regularly but never notice these trees.

I supposed the trees were not in bloom when I visited before! I remembered taking some pictures of the icicles during the winter from these trees. After years of blogging and taking pictures, I am kind of tuning in to things that catch my eyes, and that is a good thing!
