I will go out of my way and say that this is the best goodbye song ever. It's so tenderly sung without any hint of bitterness mixed in the prose, but at the same time you can actually sympathize with the deeply sad emotions of the song. You can sense that there's a sting to it, much like the whole process of letting go. In the end, you kinda feel that it's a song about release; that to let go requires you to be just as brave as to fall in love. And maybe that's why it's hard to let go of someone you love, because you muster up the courage to take a chance just as when you fell in love.
Some things you're just so sure of, like it's some sort of instinct. Like things like the feeling that it's gonna rain, or fireworks on Christmas eve, or a lazy cat on an empty street. Falling in love eventually. And doing things that are almost as automatic as basic instinct. The kind that doesn't really make you think over and over because it just feels like it's the right thing to do. And words turn into songs which turn into dreams which ultimately --and eventually-- finds its way in the heart and mind of the lover.

"When you're lost in love, you never wanna be found."
I came across this song earlier this year but it didn't strike me much during that time. Looking back, I guess I could probably relate with the lyrics. I mean, it's pretty much dead on. So no time for drama now; for all it's worth, my year 2011 is the best year yet. And wouldn't have it any other way.
Can I just be extra cheesy on this post? Okay, thanks. I don't know about you, but it's a nice feeling to be in love, man. It's a good feeling, the kind that makes you want to get up in the morning and experience it all over again. Realizing that you're in-love with one person is like hearing your most favorite song for the first time.

It's magic. And madness. And timing. And luck. That's being in-love.
(Performed by Joshua Bell)

Easily one of my favorite classical piece. I had this on loop last night while I was in the midst of reading Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami. I think it complements the story and the feelings the author wants to invoke to the reader. I finished it today with the song still playing on loop in the background and the effect was devastating. Bittersweet. I think Murakami wrote the book with this wonderful classical piece in mind. Really, you should try reading Norwegian Wood with this in the background. It's almost as if it tells the whole story...
I noticed that lately the songs I've been sharing on this blog have been quite on the slow and melancholic side. But I feel better now. In fact, I feel great. Awesome. And just in time for the Christmas season. (yay!)

So yeah. Everything's good.
Honestly, I didn't fall in love with this song the first time I heard it. But the second time around, I did. And with a burning desire.

Well, those first few lines I wrote could be a metaphor. Depends on how you look at it.

The bottom line is I love this song and I'll do anything to hear it everyday.

Let me tell you a story. I got my heart broken today.

Things like this I always try to keep an optimistic mind. Which I still do. What sucks with being an optimist is when things turn out the other way, you really get caught up in the moment and you crash; same as when a pessimist gets an unexpected stroke of good luck.

So yes, I guess today is character-building day. For me it's how you react in a situation you don't have any control of. I feel sad and tired but at the same time there's this unmistakable, almost a tad bit annoying, radiance of optimism inside me. That maybe everything will fall into place. That it's a learning curve. That we have all the time in the world to wait. That this is a kind transition.

On the other hand, when I really try think about it, I'm really at a loss for words.
Tonight I am sharing one of my personal "comfort songs." I remember the last time I played this was when I was going through some hard times, particularly on an emotional level. That was probably more than over a year ago. It's the sort of song that can penetrate through anyone's walls. If you don't believe so, then I'm not sure what you are. I'm kidding; but seriously though, I just wanna get this song out there to you, readers. I know it's 1AM and it's cold here from where I'm spending my long weekend alone so as you can see melancholy got the best of me tonight.

Good night.

James Morrison - Details In The Fabric

I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it but I didn't really keep searching for it since, I dunno, some equally awesome song comes into mind once in a while. But since Jason Mraz is coming to town in a few weeks, I decided put this in the playlist before I call this a day.

The message is excellent. I think he's talking to someone who's had some kind of breakup and now doesn't know what to do. Which is just appropriate; sometimes even the best of us need a friend to deal with these kinds of things. I especially like the last part in the telephone conversation where the line goes:

"I feel like you're an island of reality in an ocean of diarrhea."

You know sometimes I think, being the quasi-music aficionado that I think I am, that the right music comes to me everytime I think I'm feeling down. Yes, the music comes to me, and I don't even have to look for it. So anyway, I thought I'd sulk and prolly listen to a plentiful serving of Dashboard Confessional after hearing some news; but heck, why the hell would I do that? Sometimes somethings just make you wake up, like you've been pulled out of the Matrix or something and it feels quite liberating. I assure you, no feeling quite like it.

And so then I woke up and the first thing I saw --- was the most beautiful eyes my vision has ever set upon. And this song should've played in the background. And from that moment on, I knew exactly who I wanna be. It's as clear as the words in this song.

You'll be given love. You have to trust it. All is full of love.

Pretty much the soundtrack of my weekend. Lately, I've been living a rather Peter Bretter-ish (Jason Segel's role in the movie 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall') kind of life. Which is really...nice. As with the whole mood of this song. I kinda wish it played on loop in the background during the night I was in Los Baños --- yes, there's really something refreshing about that place. It's like watching NBA replays when the Bulls were dominating.
If you're a fan of Late Night Sounds it's pretty much safe to assume that you have a rather...sophisticated (okay, and maybe relatively 'nice') taste in music. Not necessarily deviant, but we do like to stray outside the lines every once in a while.

Enter: Dice & K9. Although I assume that the initial instinct upon seeing a mainstream, Kid Rock-ish, bling-wearin' RnB/Rap group here in the blog would be to close the browser and just move on with your lives, I can definitely assure you that you will like this track. The group had been under the radar for quite a while now since their breakout Philippine single "Itsumo." *cringe* But this song is just --how do you call it-- dope. True class. Leave a comment if you felt like clubbing after you've listened.
She's a fantastic singer with one hell of a voice. And though her sudden death brought tragic news to all her fans, her songs will ultimately be her ticket to immortality.

Looking deeper into the song, I guess no other words are left to describe how it feels. It's the irony of finding someone and at the same time losing that person which you never had in the first place. Sometimes it just feels like something went wrong on how everything took place and that at the very end it's just you hoping that you could find someone like that person all over again.

It doesn't make sense when you've had six bottles of beer prior to writing this either.

Anyway, rest in peace, Amy.
It's a mellow and somewhat bordering on the "Adult Contemporary" category --- which is weird for a 90's kid like me who heard this first on MTV fresh.

Anyway, this song is all about letting go. Consequently, wishing the best for that same person who, in many special ways, made our summer last forever. (not that I'm pointing fingers; the last line was just a nice way to end a post. :P)
I first heard this during the season finale of the hit series "The O.C." (one of the finest moments in TV if you ask me). This song has that "spirit" that lingers in your thoughts for a long long time.

While it sings about someone discovering the fact that their lover is living a second life with another person, "Hide and Seek" basically captures that feeling of anger and despair when you find out that you're not the only one.

I've taken the liberty of sharing the video of those last few minutes in that season finale.
It's sung in French but the air surrounding the song brings about a feeling of loneliness and regret; truly nostalgic. "Lavande" is French for lavender and when I translated the lyrics of the chorus part in Google, it showed something like: "I cry with the essence of lavender and vodka..."

Mondialito is also one of my favorite acoustic indie bands. The singer, Junko Nishimura, is just like an anime dream come true. Ahhhh... ;)

But the weather these days makes me crave for something...deep. And sentimental. Some weather huh?

When I first heard this song, my initial thought was that it was a bit "noisy" with all the background sounds and the constant thumping heart sound which loops throughout the entire song. It was too much for a 10year old me. Now I can definitely relate to the whole "background noise" idea of the song. It's brilliant.

And in case you haven't watched it yet, well. The way I described the movie was something like Charlie's Angels meet Inception meets Shawn Of The Dead...all while getting high on a good acid trip. Which is perfectly fine at least to my standards.

Okay, so before this turns into a movie critique, I assure you that you won't be disappointed with the soundtracks. Actually, the whole movie was like one of Bjork's earlier music videos. Sorta.

Here's the track 'Where Is My Mind?', originally sung by The Pixies and remade by Yoav and Emily Browning.
I'm not sayin' that all hip-hop albums these days are crap, but the majority of the mainstream hip-hop leaves a sour taste in my mouth (or ears). Most hip-hop songs these days almost always talk about fame, money, and sex. It's too braggy and the art, at least for me, is lost.

Digable Planets is one of the best hip-hop groups in the 90's, I dare say. Not romantically though. I remember listening to Cultured Pearls when I was in elementary, probably around 5th grade. On Sunday mornings before our family went to church, I'd play the cassette (yes, the tape) inside the car and lock the doors so that I could enjoy the music to myself. Although generally I listen to bands like RHCP or No Doubt, I was admittedly a closet soul/jazz lover. But when you're that young, most kids will probably think you're weird if you listen to soul and jazz.

So here's to pay tribute to those memorable Sunday mornings!

Cultured Pearls - Not This Time (DOWNLOAD)

I first heard this song in the movie Closer and it's one if not the best song from Damien Rice.

There's a lot of passion in this song. You can just feel it right from the very first few seconds until towards the last part where it's just Damien whispering "I can't take my mind off of you...till I find somebody." Anyway, yeah, great song. The title is in reference to the title of Rice's clarinet professor back when he was younger.

I thought it was about a glass blower's daughter.

Damien Rice - The Blower's Daughter (DOWNLOAD)
