Sorry it's been so long since my last post. I have been reading. I just have not reviewed a book in a while.

Noah's Compass is a book about a man named Liam who loses his job and then guts hurt while his house was being robbed. In the midst of all this trouble he realizes that he basically has no one to depend on because of the decisions he has made throughout his life. This book is about his discovery in his mistakes, his transitions into a new person who opens up to others, and his willingness to take new risks.

I really loved this book. All of us have been at a stand still in our lives before. This book is just a reminder to make amends if necessary and grow from your mistakes. It's a definite read. In addition, the book was really easy to read just an enjoyable book.

Until then!

Books, Books, Books!

Loves Enduring Promise

I decided to read the second book in the Love Comes Softly series. As I said in a previous review, the first was a fast, easy, and an engaging read. For some reason , this time I have to disagree. I thought the book was good enough. It is about 200 pages and it covers a time period of years. Which bugged me a bit. In the beginning of the book the Davis' have another child and then end up taking in two more children after the death of their own mother. The girls are young, not quite teenagers yet, and starting school for the first time. But, by the end of the book they are both married off. For a series of books I just thought that the characters would maybe have been followed a developed more. Instead all of the stories felt rushed. I am still glad I read the book. I like how the author makes God a primary focus throughout the book. Seeing Marty the main character deal with raising two additional girls with her own made me think of what it would be like to blend children into my own family. The sadness that she feels with each child leaving the house is one I could connect with. I just wish there was a little more about each character. Marty's relationship with Clark is not really mentioned much in the book. I hoped that after all they had overcome in the first book it would still be mentioned more here. So, should you read this one? I would. If you like the continuing stories of characters, read it. I'm probably going to read the third in hopes that the series improves.

This book begins with a tragedy. Marty, the main character in the book, looses her husband Clem in a terrible accident. She is pregnant and not sure what to do since her and her husband have just adventured out West. While she is at her husbands funeral she is approached by a man named Clark Davis who makes her an offer she cannot refuse. If she takes care of his little girl Missy, he will support her.

The book follows the lives of Marty and Clark and how they coexist together in a time that is mournful and sad for both. It also shows the blossoming of another love that helps dissolve the pain from their previous experiences. Clark shows Marty how to love God. Marty teaches Clark how to be patient. This book is a great read leaving your uplifted. I definitely recommend.

I am reading the second book in the series now. I will have a review on it next.

Okay, so after staying up WAY too late last night I finally finished this book. I really do like to read a book in it's entirety before I submit a review on it. I think the ending is just as important as the inner content. This book was a little slow going. And it often switched between past and present and sometimes was hard to keep up but, overall a good book. The book is about a girl named Eveline and her various relationships and how she manages to find the love of her life at a really young age but cannot manage to hold on. The book really explores the idea of losing the person you are meant to be with an how to cope and how Eveline copes.

She does not make the best choices. But, I think her logic is really common for young girls. The book does kind of focus on an obsession for a love of hers. It also describes the lengths at which this girl will go through in order to numb herself from the pain of losing him.

The book is not really something you would want you daughter to read. I mean, I would not want her to think that Eveline's behavior is a normal response to loss of love. But, I could relate to a lot of the feelings that she had. Overall, not a must read but, an enjoyable read.

If the Devil Had Wife

If the Devil Had a Wife

Okay, so I am from Southeast Texas. So, usually all books that are written about my area of the country I am interested in. So, when my mom told me about this true story about a family in Orange, Texas I was curious. The book is about the Lutcher family and their family money. But, the book is also about something more. It's about the deceit of a wife in the family and the slow take over of everything the Lutcher family has.

So what did I think? I think maybe I found the book more interesting than it actually was because I am from the area. I have heard of the family. So, I like the conspiracy idea. But even for me, the book was a little long and a little confusing. I had to read things again to make sure I was understanding correctly. In the end, I think the book was mostly about a family that is bitter about the money and history they have lost. So, the big question....should you read it? If you like a conspiracy story? Sure. But I would not call it a must read on any level. Probably not.

I'll be back in a day or two with a a new book! And yes, I really am reading them cover to cover.
This is another Free Friday giveaway that I receive through Barnes & Noble. I know I've mentioned it before, but I really really love the idea of getting free books! It's awesome. So the book starts out when Dr. Cathy Sewell moves back to her home town after a rough end at her previous job. She also has other personal ties that are broken in her formal life. Dr. Sewell has the normal hardships of opening her own practice but something seems off and things seem to keep going wrong.

After a continuous batch of incidents Dr. Sewell begins to investigate with the help of her friend and former boyfriend, Will Kennedy. The two began to work together to solve a puzzle of a old grudge that begins to resurface.

This book is not a must read, but it's good. It's entertaining. You should consider it. And, you never know it could still be free!!

Don't forget to submit a review. I would love to hear what you all are thinking!
This is not a new book but I just wanted to write about it because I loved it so much! I checked this one out online through my local library. The book starts out when the main character, Emily Ashton, is in mourning for her husband after his death on a hunting trip. Emily was only shortly married to her husband, so she barely knew him really. This book is about her discovery into her husband's path. It's a really interesting fun book with lots of plot twists! It also shows what traditions were followed in the past and Emily's resistance to those rules and traditions. The main character is funny and the life that she wants for herself goes against the grain of society rules and procedures.

I definitely recommend reading this book! So good, so funny. A quick and easy read!

I've had it for around a year now. This is my second e ink reader. I just love them. I love being able to buy any book at any time. I love the idea that I am saving trees. I just love everything about it. And for those who disagree, for all of the book romantics out there, who just love the smell of a book and flipping the pages and swearing that it's part of the reading experience and you're right, some of the time. That's why I still have some paper copies of my classics around and I just can't seem to let them go. But, for everyday reading e ink really is the way to go. Also, check your local library you would be surprised at all of the ebooks they have that you can check out with just a click of your mouse.

But back to the the original intent of this blog, the book! So, Barnes & Noble has this thing they do weekly where they give a book away. Free Fridays! Being the frugal person that I am, I am always first in line. In remembrance of the Holocaust they gave this book away for a limited time.

Now, I have read several books in the past, fiction or non-fiction, about World War II and the hardships of the Jewish people, but never anything like this. The writer, Eric, recalls the details of being forced to leave his home and how he and his mother eventually end up in Italy. This memoir made me laugh out loud, it made me cry, and it made me angry. It was so real. The author was so candid and honest about everything. To hear the thoughts of Eric as a child gives you a glimpse of what life was for a lot of Jewish families. I do not want to give you the impression that this book is sad, it's really not, most of the book was lighthearted. The attitude of this young boy was just as any other young child. He was very naive, and just plain foolish in some instances. His mother is a constant source of strength and the true hero in this memoir.

The hardships of the Lamet family and the other Jewish families is sometimes difficult to read, but so important, so we never forget where our world has been. So that we can prevent anything like the Holocaust ever happening in the future. Consider reading this book you will not regret it.
