Brought a smile to my face. I can imagine a proper Geordie accent would be really difficult for it as well.

Derby itself doesn't really have a regional accent, 20 miles further north it's a lot different though.

Morning all, warming up a little outside. Carers didn't appear yesterday evening as they had a vehicle breakdown, hopefully they will get things sorted for this morning as we have a 'royal visit' from brother in law around 11.30! He does come every few years to see his sister but as he lives 12 miles away I can understand that it would be difficult. I'm visiting a former workmate in Wirksworth later, then getting things ready for Harthill Carnival tomorrow.

Hi all
Not so bad today, got woken at 6:00 am by a milk delivery truck
Watched the news and now awaiting carer as she's running late, then breakfast
Slabs etc all finished in garden so will now move pots etc about, then its start to tidy / landscape other side which isn't so difficult as just loose stuff, weed barrier and then wood chip or similar

Another cracker in the offing. The temperature got to 38^o in the company van whilst in Oxford road traffic yesterday and expecting similar today. It soon drops to lower 30's when moving though. A tad humid for my liking.

Salt Path - I don't understand - I read it as a lovely tale of a couple's travails and travels.
What is the fuss about?
Is it not still a good and well written story?
Who gives a fig that the author has a delapidated house in France?

I’ve never read it but everyone who has recommended it to me told me it was the true story of Raynor Wynn and her husband Moth and now it seems it was written by a lady called Sally Walker and her OH Tim and she has a record of being ‘economical with the truth’ to the tune of £64,000.

At best you’ll need to move it from ‘Biography’ to the ‘Fiction’ section ….and just go down on your knees and thank who ever you believe in that you aren’t in charge of doing the due diligence at the Penguin or No9 Films

As far as ‘ruins in France’ it sounds like not much more than a pile of bricks but given her past record - who knows

Even though I haven’t read it , I feel kind of disappointed - it was a ‘feel good’ story - and now it’s a let down.

The battery charge lasts over a week and £5 SIM credit lasts for 6 months although probably not needed for 999. When they finally switch off 2G, I will buy something similar on 4G.

I have a Nothing 3a smart phone which lasts 2 days without needing a charge, even with a reasonable amount of daily usage.

As for a simple phone, it's worth looking at the Doro range. They don't have much installed and are designed for the simplicity.

I have had several Doro mobiles, my current one caused much humour among hospital staff when I was admitted earlier this year as they assumed it was almost an antique. They didn't believe that I bought it new last year and I had problems getting them to charge it for me! The camera isn't up to much but I only use it as a phone anyway. I do have to charge it weekly though which can be a pain as I use it as my alarm.

Morning all, dull and overcast but should brighten up unlike yesterday which didn't! Mrs W sorted and bladder washed, pills popped so just brekkie to get and then await carers to move her. Maybe some work on the coffee blender later, just need to make a base for it to sit on and fit the drive pulley that arrived by post yesterday. Also need to pay rental for my storage container, I don't want an angry farmer chasing me with a shotgun!

Hi all
Got woken early again at 4:45 am, and now realise it's a fox!
Weird thing was just awake when a car drove up the road, but didn't come back so wonder who that was as a neighbour who works late was already home
So as couldn't get back to sleep watched TV for a while then got up and pottered about upstairs so as not to wake OH, carers been so sorted a couple of bits, now about to do brekkie then it's back in garden
Laid all my slabs yesterday but also had an odd tumble, walking a slab through to where I'm laying them and my foot just stopped / down I went - fortunately l was wearing gloves and knee pads so just dropped slab and went on all fours, unfortunately the slab broke but I luckily have spare
No idea what I tripped on but closer inspection found a small root / branch sticking up so chopped that off
Today is dust over slabs with dry mix to fill gaps, do the same on some of the older areas / clear up and start landscaping other side of garden
So now it's just that, new decking boards and a couple of fence panels - a big tidy / lay out pots etc and should all be finished

Good morning. Getting hotter and more humid and our new generation of double glazing is totally misted up on the outside. Luckily it is only the sliding patio window.

BT seem very slow to go to full fibre, maybe to the advantage of most, except those obsessed with speed tests.

The big problem is that you cannot call 999 if there is a power outage or at night when your router is off. BT only mention this near the end of their blurb.The essential mains power transformers to the Fibre box and the router get mighty warm this weather and I prefer mine to be off at night rather than face a fire risk, however small.

This info has just been posted by Thames Valley Police on FB:

A new traffic camera is to be installed at the junction of High Street and School Lane in Wargrave in order to protect pedestrians using the crossing and reduce road traffic collisions.

It follows a number of collisions have been reported, and there are ongoing community concerns about red-light running in this area.

It is one of the first in the Thames Valley to be equipped with new ‘red light’ and ‘speed on green’ cameras.

The red light camera systems, can be simultaneously used for speed enforcement, thereby increasing traffic safety.

Work has started on the camera in Wargrave.

Detective Chief Inspector Justin Thomas, Joint Operations Head of Roads Policing: said: “Safety on our roads is a priority for Thames Valley Police and our partners. These lights will hopefully protect those using the High Street crossing, as well as to reduce collisions at the junction in Wargrave, where red light jumping has become an issue.

“The consequences of jumping a red light where pedestrians are crossing has potentially fatal consequences. I would urge motorists to take extra care, slow down and never run the risk.

“We will continue to work with our partners in order to make our roads a safer place for everyone.”

Matt Gould, Head of Network Management and Transport Planning at Wokingham Borough Council, said: “We are very pleased to see these cameras being installed after passing on the concerns raised by residents and working closely with the police on the design and implementation. These cameras mark a significant step forward in prioritising the safety of pedestrians and all road users in Wargrave. The installation of these new cameras directly addresses the community's long-standing concerns regarding the safety of the junction and the numerous reports of red light jumping.

Of course, no-one using this forum would speed or jump red lights, but nice to see that they are using one camera to catch 2 different types of offences.

Phew, it is rather humid.
I was rummaging for almost an hour before I found my thing of Gorilla Glue, it is a bit cooked from being in the shed for a year, but will hopefully still re-affix my cane top to the cane. Time will tell.
My work bag - leather, off the shoulder number - requires re-stitching on one of the seams. I can't for the life of me thread the bleddy leather (3-sided) needle with the waxed thread. I've not had this problem before and can usually thread a needle from the other side of the room - this time, though, it defeats me. I'll stop for a cuppa, that'll sort it. Probably not helped by my hands being sticky from cutting open the Gorilla Glue thing to get at the remaining goo. I'll wait until it sets, then peel it off my hands and try again.

Phone lines changing Liz? Apparently we haven't paid since January, Derbyshire Council did supply it but they 'sold the service off' to a private company who now no longer exist so it was useless anyway. We should have had someone call in January to redirect it elsewhere but that didn't happen as clients records got lost! The operator said that to just disconnect it and forget about it which we have now done.

And there's an advertising campaign running at the moment, sharing how it's good for acne and all sorts...I have little tubs, and tubes in all my travel bags.

Well neither Mrs W or myself have heard of it, we must have led very sheltered lives? However we haven't any kids so have never needed to attack bottoms! Only cream we use is Cavilon on prescription.

Windrush, bureaucracy and jobsworths, a perfect pairing.

Mrs Ds car is booked for new pipe, fixings and back box for tomorrow and chatting to the mechanic about elder younglings ford "auto" problem (he has been quoted £k's for new auto box) mechanic says not auto but manual with auto changer and vauxhall use the same parts and they've fixed a few - so that will hopefully be booked in a few days. Solar charged stables cam is not charging and so I am diverted to look at that.
Now hopefully I will be taken home and permitted to have breakfast and a cuppa.

It's only a small box connected to the phone line, no use to us as it goes through to the Falls Team and they are no longer needed as Mrs W hasn't stood for several years now so is unlikely to fall! It's costing us a monthly fee so it might as well go. We only used it once, two women came out from Derby and got her standing then asked where she needed to go, I said into her chair. "Oh we can only get her standing, we are not allowed to help her move" so they put her back onto the floor and told me to dial 999 for an ambulance team to move her. which is what we did. Never bothered with them since.

Now a question - for years now we've noticed trends at BS's, as you walk round I see nothing odd / unusual / 'don't often see stuff' but then see a few more the same day
Then don't see them again - last week it was dartboards, (saw 5) other week was the collectable Wade piggy banks (4 stalls had some)
Do you ever notice the same?
An interesting observation. I have noticed trends in items for sale such as foot spas, step exercisers and those meerkat toys. Perhaps having seen one I notice the others.

The thing that always surprises me is that I see something for sale on a stall that is bizarre and quite hideous (e.g. a large poorly painted and garish wooden animal carving) and, whilst I am having morning tea before going home, I see someone carrying it around clearly having bought it. It takes all sorts I suppose.

By the way the PP boot sale is not on for the next two weeks as the field is being used for other things.

Yes saw they are closed, may try the Bracknell one this weekend

Been awake since 5:30am due to a weird noise outside, whatever caused it had gone by the time I looked
Couldn't get back to sleep so been watching TV as awaiting carer and letting OH sleep on
Plans are to lay slabs today so no rush just yet

Had to google it as we have never heard of it, it's Sudocrem (no e), but not something we have ever had cause to use. A decent day here, managed to get a few jobs done and spent some time at the farm deciding which items I can dispose of when the time is right. Farmer and missus away on holiday so it was nice and quiet!

I know it from the younglings when they were babies, then from himself as he managed to, variously, fall into bramble bushes and go over the bonnet of a car when cycling. Good for scapes, spots and bites. It’s a bland, mildly antiseptic, barrier cream, as we know, that very very few people have a reaction to. IMHO it’s invaluable and is with us on all our travels throughout the world over the years. The elder and junior Voices both use it as their go to.

I just laughed when OH told me - just maybe the receptionist was very young - but for a nurse not to have heard have it - I asked if maybe she was ‘foreign’ - but No ….or of course maybe they’re all told to not acknowledge any ‘commercial’ produc, in case it’s taken as a ‘recommendation’….

He passed a day or so after the 20th anniversary of 7/7 bombings. I shall not forget the image of Mr Tebbit being brought out of the Brighton Hotel in his pajamas. Nor how he looked after his wife who was paralysed by the atrocity.

Is it me, or is the coverage of the unfortunate passing of the footballer a tad over the top? Could we expect a similar outpouring of grief if it had been an English player for a European team? I even had a colleague saying how his daughter had been upset by this...

oh yes, OH has recovered - seeing me getting better, means he now gets more home-cooked’ meals instead of the occasional Ready-meal and the laundry is done

Now here’s a thing - OH had to go to the surgery for a blood test this morning, so I asked him to ask the nurse for a recommendation for a cream for ‘Pressure Sores’, I’m currently using Sudocreme - which has largely cleared them, except one stubborn patch… I even wrote the name down - ‘never heard of it’ said the nurse -likewise Reception, who have apparently made an appointment in a fortnight’s time for a doctor to speak to me
….as for the striking doctors - do they care what the public think or whether they support them

Good news Pi. A slow recovery but good to hear you are feeling better.

I see that the junior (resident) doctors have voted to strike yet again. After their 5.4% on top of their 22% pay rise without any changes to their working practices or productivity gains I wonder what public support for their cause will be like.

Then don't see them again - last week it was dartboards, (saw 5) other week was the collectable Wade piggy banks (4 stalls had some)

An interesting observation. I have noticed trends in items for sale such as foot spas, step exercisers and those meerkat toys. Perhaps having seen one I notice the others.

The thing that always surprises me is that I see something for sale on a stall that is bizarre and quite hideous (e.g. a large poorly painted and garish wooden animal carving) and, whilst I am having morning tea before going home, I see someone carrying it around clearly having bought it. It takes all sorts I suppose.

By the way the PP boot sale is not on for the next two weeks as the field is being used for other things.

Morning all, bright and sunny outside so a decent day ahead. Managed to get my elderly paint/pigment mill finished and mounted yesterday along with a David Brown Radicon reduction gearbox to drive it so that can go as an exhibit this weekend. Still have my vintage German coffee blender to finish off, it has had two coats of boiled linseed oil applied and should be dry enough in a couple of days to mount on a base. Otherwise nothing much happening.

Bam, what make is that silver plate restorer? I have a few pieces of antique items that are silver plated and the plating has worn away in places.

Sorry for the delay. My bottle of restorer is many years old, inherited in fact, which shows that it has an almost everlasting shelf life. It is expensive but a little goes a long way. There are other makes.
Click picture to clarify. They don't seem to make it any more but Nushine is available on Ebay and maybe your local hardware shop has something similar. Must be called "Restorer" or plating solution.

Also went to PP boot sale. Thought I would not buy anything then saw two large old wooden Victory jigsaws so something to keep me occupied during the Winter months. These were not issued with any pictures so are quite a challenge to do. Also bought a nice oil can, some digital calipers and an unusual digital protractor. One never knows when such things might just come in handy.

In one quiz we had to guess what were the most popular internet searches which followed the question 'Why are men so ..?' The top answer was 'confusing' which nobody got of course. Points though were awarded for other answers.
