Honestly, every time I get to read a new KA book, I feel a bit scared. There's already a list of stories that are on the "favorite" list, beginning with Knight (yep, that was my very first KA read) and it's not easy to surpass those lovely characters I go back to on regular basis. If you're already a KA fan, I'm sure you get me. If not, I strongly suggest you give her a shot. But, don't start with this book, or you'll miss a lot.

Before you grab The Promise, you should definitely read At Peace (The 'Burg #2), as the story picks up where it left off in At Peace. Another reason is the fact that you DO NOT want to miss Joe. So, if you already love the guy, you sure will have a lot of great moments with him, Vi and the girls here. In a way, The Promise feels like a sequel to Joe's story, and I couldn't be happier that he got to have such a huge part here. It's always nice to learn more, and see what your favorite characters are up to, right? Especially when there's a wedding involved. And, if you're a fan of Lee or Luke... Okay, I'll stop here.

The Promise definitely is a bit different than the rest of the series. Only one part of it is actually happening in the 'Burg, and there's less drama, suspense and bad-decision-making. Hm, maybe not that last bit, but you'll live. Well, you will get a nice mystery, but overall it won't make you bite your nails that much. Hopefully. On the one hand, that's probably the reason I had to go back and reread some parts, because I couldn't wrap my head around the fact that no one is wielding an ax or something. On the other hand, both Benny and Frankie already suffered enough, went through all that crazy stuff, and they definitely deserve some calmish times.

Benny is the guy I already loved, and couldn't wait to read more about. He's an alpha, hot, protective, hot-headed, classic KA guy through and through. He's also funny, charming, swoon-worthy... in a word - awesome. Benny is everything I hoped he would be. Except for that one time, when he really annoyed the hell out of me, but hey, it had to happen, right? Right.

Frankie, though, is nothing like I thought she would be. There's a lot going on in her life, and most of it bad, so I get that she had to find a way to battle her demons. I just hoped she'd find a way to do it closer. She was the greatest surprise, and I gotta give her credit for making the unimaginable happen. More than once.
Another great surprise is Sal. Though I already had a soft spot for him, he managed to win me over completely and irrevocably just by being human. If that didn't make any sense, once you read the book I'm sure it will.

I'll leave you with this - if you are a KA fan, or simply a Joe fan, do not miss this book. You'll get a lovely story about love, family, history, friendship, forgiveness, good times, hot times (wink wink), emotional moments, and an epilogue that will make you melt. What more can you ask for, right? Right. Rock on!

I don’t really read all that many books with cowboys, so I always wanted to use that sentence!

Moving on, people! Nothing to stare at!
(Stop looking at me all weird like, y’all! Like you never wanted to ride a cowboy?!)

The story opens:
The prairie.
A train ride.
Young women, on the hunt for husbands.
Escorted by two handsome cowboys, Gideon and Harry.
Destination? Deadwood.
Amber, our heroine, is a bit of a wanton. She knows what she wants, she wants it NOW, and she is prepared to have the ride of her life – while her heart is left intact. Unless,...

Going in, I was inclined to be entertained and nothing more.There were many strikes against this story from the very beginning. It was an novella! And come on - we all know tiny amounts of page space never amount to any great story. It is firmly planted in Eroticsville, and it’s all about big hot rods and va-ga-gays in there. Nobody ever goes for development, or – dare I say it? – character build up.

Or do they?
(cue angsty music)

Surprisingly, I ended up really enjoying the read. A lot more than I thought I would! There was just something about the author’s writing style that made reading this book almost effortless. It was a combination of realistic dialogue, compact plot, and well done pacing. Let us not even mention the scorching hot sex scenes that have you turning the pages as fast as you can read them! I liked the characters, thought their back-story was very well presented, and found the relationship between Gideon, Harry and Amber fast, cute, and plenty steamy. ''Wanton In The Wild West'' is a definite winner, and while it may not be my personal favorite in the erotic genre, it was a really good story! It can certainly make your night, and give a little sunshine during one of these winter days.

A big applause for this novella's hot 4 stars!

''Blue lines'' will be out in a few hours!

It seems like years, doesn’t it?!

Even though I read the ARC,…fear not! Toni Aleo’s new book is pre-ordered, and as soon as it hits Amazon – will be a proud member of my Kindle library, bumping shoulders with it’s predecessors. For those of you not yet introduced to the Assassin series, I bid you adieu, because you’re late, late, late, and you shouldn’t be wasting your time reading my rant about book four. What you should be doing is going to Toni's page on Amazon and treating yourself for Christmas! Dive in to the hottest thing since boiling tea – sports romance!

The heroine of this fanciful read is definitely a favorite of mine, since the author made her very palpable. She has soft spots and vulnerabilities just the like the reader, the other women out there, the populace at large. She marches on trough the pages, undetained by any character clichés. The hero is almost on the sidelines, even though he fits the regular hot and dandy profile of romance hunks! I am not going to dissect his placement on my ‘Best ever male character’ list, but I can safely say he is, by far, the best plot prop a heroine could have.

When pondering the underlining writing, I can proudly state that nothing dragged, choppiness was never a problem, and the plot was well developed and strong. There was only one glitch – at times, I was unable to connect this book to the series. Sure, all of my favorite characters were present, but somehow the subplots of the previous books never got to shine in ''Blue lines''.

On some level, this totally wounded me. It’s crazy, it’s childish, it’s called investing oneself in to a book a bit too much, and there’s probably a disorder describing it on Wikipedia.

I have been waiting for ''Blue Lines'' angst-filled-drama-goodness for over a year, ever since I finished ''Empty Net''. Don’t get me wrong, there was drama. There were buckets of tears! My inner demon was satisfied for sure, but I still have to say…what about Resse? What about the strong he-likes-Resse theme form ''Empty Net''? Sure, it was addressed in a roundabout way, but could I shake the feeling that it was swept under the rug in the face of the couples present-day drama? No. Not so much.

I also missed the behind-closed-doors night when Piper got pregnant. The hints were revealing enough, but I guess I still wanted the beginning of their connection to have more page time, just so I could understand Erik better.

All this aside – the book was a whirlwind all by itself. You almost didn’t need the previous novels from the Assassin series in order to be really invested. Anxiety was ever present, and I loved every moment of it – from messy emotional start to poignant ending. Mrs. Aleo has showed me that sports authors can be extravagantly deep and very touching. Realism is something I favor, especially when it is added in moderated doses that invoke feelings. I freely admit that I cringed while reading about Lucas’s ‘boner talk’ in the locker room – I guess because it hit so close to him allegedly cheating before ''Trying to score'' - still, even though I wish I could redact certain parts of Blue lines and live in la-la-land, the realistic road to the (fictional?) dreamy happy ever after at the end of the book would have not been complete if the author changed something. Romance fiction is so much more believable if you are able to connect to it!

So,...cheers, Mr.Aleo! *raises glass*

Controversy.
Angst. Hurt. Tears.
Choices, lost friendships, and a broken future.

Amazon.

WAR.

A cyber war has been going on among us. The reviewers beaten upon by authors and vice versa. And, like in all wars, none of the parties involved are one hundred percent correct, but still, the overall conflict managed to suck in people on both sides that basically wanted nothing to do with it.

To flame the fires, in comes Amazon with taking over the biggest reviewing community online, and implementing pro-author features.

I do understand that authors needed to be protected from random slander. Then again, the brand new flagging process opened up the doors to certain authors to go all cloak and dagger, in order to boosting up their ratings and removing valid reviews. Yes, yes, a small amount of bullies in a crowd of many. Lets face it, you don’t see a classy lady like Julia Quinn going around on rabid rants and flagging sprees. But, even if the numbers are small, it opened up a veritable Pandora’s box, and managed to slaughter the foundation of Goodreads – good relations. On a site that mostly resides on the shoulders of it’s community, the fear and panic that followed did no good. Many of us have lost friends due to this – from authors that are almost afraid to interact with their public to reviewers that are leaving our witty little community and making their own way in the world. Yes, there are a million users on Goodreads, but only a handful writes the massive bulk of reviews. When a non-user or new user opens up popular books, they see repeated names. I see dear friends, many of whom have abandoned ship.

I am not taking sides. It’s too late to say anything. It’s too late to play favorites.
There were casualties. There will be more as time passes.

Off-Topic: The Story of an Internet Revolt by G.R. Reader is a witty recap of the ordinary Goodreads user’s side in this everlasting drama.
It was often stated that the whole ‘Goodreads user(s) revolt’ was just an outcry from a few twated reviewers. I am not going to go in to analizing that statement, but I can safely say - Off-Topic is not about favourites. It is about (sad) facts. And the aftermath.

Do I think it will reap any fruits when it comes to Amazon vs User(s) negotiations?
Sadly, I don’t. But it has brought a smile to my face, for it gave the users a real voice. And humanized many people that were portrayed as devil incarnates.

Depressing.

Review ~ Fixated On You by Pamela Ann

Driving force. Yes. Driving. Force.

driving force /ˈdrʌɪvɪŋ fɔːs / – Noun - the act of applying force to propel something; the person or a thing that motivates or directs someone or something.
Synonyms: drive, thrust, actuation, propulsion, impetus, impulsion, impulse

Why does one read an entire series, squandering money on book after book? And why, oh why, would one do that, especially if one is not all that big of a fan of contemporary romance?

My more professional colleagues in the review world would be fast in pointing out that maybe the writing is superb and I have been overcome by the prose itself.

Am I?

Sadly, I am not. The writing stile is all but ordinary, and sometimes even overly flamboyant, on the verge of tumbling in to kitch.

The trendsetters would latch on to the question of SWAG.

And I would say – oh for the love of….you darn hipsters….!!!
No, joking aside, these books are not all that trendy among the reviewing community, and even though the author is somewhat known, she still drabbles in the waters of partial anonymity when compared to the big names we all know and love. I am gladly giving her points for being down to earth and in constant contact with her fans, but cuteness is not the dominant factor in selling books. It’s the harsh truth, but the truth nonetheless.

So what is the magic ingredient?

DRAMA.

Let’s face it - the digital world has made us it’s sheep and we flock to the brightness of angsty goodness. Can you say baaaa?

As somebody that scoffs at Jerry-Springer-like-shows, and breaks in to hives at the mention of TLC, I should be immune, right? Rigth? Wrong.

Nobody is immune to angst, if said angst is gripping.

Come on, don’t be shy! Danielle Steel made her whole career based on pure drama, and let us not even start talking about Nicholas Sparks. Pamela Ann has a whole other approach to her writing, execution, themes and plot developments, but in the end – the anxiety is a page turner.

Still, I am know for despising empty stories that have no deeper meaning.

I live for impeccability and praise only things that are thought trough to a fault.

I want things to shine out, to be new and not remind me of the previous 20 books I read.
The Torn series by Pamela Ann are by no means a selection of books that dazzled me with the sheer brilliance of their literary worth.

(Although in the world of Fifty Shade's fans, one might argue this point and be the winner)

Still, they sparkle with the wit and ingenuity of the author herself. Pamela Ann has that special something, that chemical ‘X’, that mysterious element that makes the most ordinary thing come to life. Her books may even be termed crude by a harsh critique, but even those among us who think so, have to bow to the fluency of the drama. The intricately woven plot. The gripping embrace of theatrics. The lovable craziness of her neurotic characters. THE ADDICTION OF IT ALL.

addiction /əˈdɪkʃ(ə)n/ – Noun - the fact or condition of being addicted to a particular substance or activity.

Synonyms: dependency, dependence, craving, habit, weakness, compulsion, fixation, enslavement;

I have read the long awaited final installment of the Emma Anderson rollercoaster life. Sure, there will be more books in the series, but in a way, this was the end of an era. We stared off with Emma, and here we are, almost a year later, biding her farewell while she sails off to her happy ever after.

I am not a fan of Emma Anderson. Nor a fan of anybody else in these books. And in thus awaits the root to my addiction. By the engrossing writing of Pamela Ann I am enslaved to the fates of random psychoneurotic heroes and heroines, forced to live and breath the beginning and end of their dramatics.

So, yes, I read ‘Fixated on you’.

I admit it. I am guilty.

I am also guilty of fuming, crying and sighing trough the whole ordeal. But most importantly – I am guilty of letting this book evoke feelings in me. And I have been oh-so-numb for the last couple of months. Thus, I embrace it all. I embrace the feelings and the turmoil. I applaud the author and I recommend the series. I am addicted, and unashamed to admit it. I am woman enough to nod in acknowledgment to those who managed to best me. And Pamela Ann has bested me.

You want to rage? You want to cry? You want to put down a book and think – ‘Wow, it was worth every penny, because it wrung me dry and left me heaving for more’? Then read ''The Torn'' series by Pamela Ann.

Those books will never be the most outstanding masterpieces out there. But they will make you feel alive.

And isn’t that the most important thing of all?

Oh. My. God. If you haven't read Soul Avenged yet (why?? you must!), grab it right away, and let yourselves be amazed. Seriously, if you ever cared even one bit about paranormal/urban fantasy genre, and you don't mind things going a bit... messy... you absolutely have to read it. And, once you finish it, you can simply pick this awesomeness, and have even more fun. Because, what seemed like a promising story about a hot, screwy ~~guy~~ demon, turned out to be so much more than you could ever imagine. Interested yet?

Soul Resurrected begins right where Soul Avenged left off. Logan is resurrected, and he's not exactly happy about it (this was probably an understatement of the century). He is already connected to Calla. There is a bond between them that they are both ready to fight against, but it's stronger by the second. Tends to happen when you end up saving each other's life, I guess... Now, Calla is an Alexi. Not exactly a weak, defenseless girl. Not to mention she's all about vengeance. But, still, there's enough purity in her to make her just perfect for Logan's dark, tortured soul.

As much as I loved Soul Avenged, and the way it played out, this book is so much more, and so much better. The world building is still extraordinary. It is still fast paced, and action packed (you wouldn't believe how much), and things get way more complicated... but the focus definitely shifted. Now we get to learn more about Brothers, and we get to see a lot of Calla and Logan. They are all over the place. Plus, there's this dual POV thing going on that made me real happy.
Logan is full of resentment, but oh boy does he have a reason for it. His side of the story broke my heart. Yes, he's moody and broody & all that. He's one cocky son of a... ahem, Wrath... but, then again, he's also an amazing guy that's ready to suffer through so much just to keep the ones he cares about safe. Didn't see that coming, huh?

As for the rest of them... Ferno and Mad Dog are home. And, as much as I knew Ferno will turn out to be a lot to handle, now I'm sure I'll weep through his story. And Zayne's. Love those tortured souls, what can I say? Zeke is still the man-whore of the family, and you can't not adore him. Calix is incredibly cute. And, Gavin... oh, my. Wonder how that'll play out. Have to admit, they are ALL soooo HAWT it's ridiculous!
And, just so you don't think this installment is all about romance, there's a very interesting, very complicated, very intriguing story going on. A lot of new characters, a lot of new ways of torture. There's Lyric, Sabelle, Marrick, the Sang, Ava... Layers and layers and layers of brilliance.

Soul Resurrected is gruesome, dark, bloody, explicit (in the best possible way), and it's beyond intense. Definitely not for the faint of hearts. Once again, Keri Lake wrote a story that's not light, short or easy. But... It grabbed me, chewed me up, and left me lingering in this incredible world... I did not want it to end. I was happy, sad, mad, fascinated, scared and in love - all at the same time. And, I. Want. More.
Be sure not to miss it. You'll love these guys! Yes, you will.

Gavin & Xander

The stack of papers sitting before Gavin slowly began to shift—the pile on the right becoming taller than the shit he still had to weed through on the left.

He rolled his eyes, reading the letter in his hand—another request for vengeance. Like fan mail, they arrived in bulk. And since the brothers only took select cases, it was Gavin’s job to weed through the bullshit.

Christ, it never ends.

A knock at the door prompted Gavin to drop the letter into the not a chance in hell pile and he glanced up.

Ben entered the office, stiff and serious as always. “Sir, perhaps you might come quickly.”

Ben-talk for get your ass up out of the chair, this is important.

Gavin rose from his desk, leaving the stacks to sit and followed Ben toward the back of the house. Trying to get the troll to talk along the way—to give a single clue as to what they’d find at the end of the walk—was about as futile as pulling conversation from a rock. Not even Gavin’s probing stare while Ben held the back door open, could get the troll to spill.

Ben often opted for visuals over explanation.

Along the path through the woods, they finally reached the small cabin where screams echoed into the surrounding forest.

Gavin’s muscles tensed and he instinctively clutched the hilt of his dagger. “What’s going on?”

Gripping the handle of the cabin door, Ben lifted his nose. “It seems our head of security has gone over and above his duties.”

He swung the door open.

In the center of the room a man lay hog-tied on the floor, blood speckled across the wooden planks. Xander, the fallen angel Gavin had recently hired back, stood over what appeared to be a human, twirling a dagger in his fingers before he raised it above his head.

“Hold it!” Gavin called out.

A grin stretched Xander’s lips, his arm still poised for stabbing. “How righteous of you, Ben. Fucking tattle-tale.”

“Who is he?” Gavin stepped inside the cabin.

“Sinner. What else?” Xander lowered the dagger.

“He trespass? What’d he do?”

“Caught him stealing from the casino.”

“Stealing what?”

“Does it matter?”

“Yeah, we live in a fucked economy right now.” Gavin crossed his arms at his chest. “It matters.”

“Money.”

“How much?”

Xander shrugged. “Twenty bucks, maybe.”

“That’s it? For what?”

“Look I don’t interview the bastards before I torture them. I’m sure every one of ‘em has a sob story.” The angel’s gray eyes met Gavin’s. “Would it make you feel better if he cheated on his wife and jacked off to pictures of young girls all day long? ‘Cos I’m pretty sure he does.”

A muffled protest came from the victim who still lay on the floor, tugging against his binds.

“Let him go. You do this shit on your own turf, your own time. Not mine.” Gavin pointed a finger at him. “Your job is here. Britus covers Sanctuary. We clear?”

Xander scratched his jaw. “Yeah. Crystal. Was gonna let him go anyway. Just having some fun with him first.” He crouched to the floor beside the guy. “Hear that, dipshit? It’s your lucky day. Go forth and tell the world that an angel tied you up and whooped your ass. And a demon saved it.” Xander’s gaze swung back to Gavin’s and he cocked a brow. “Point for the hellspawn.”

It’s been a tough year.
No, I lie.
It was a horrible year all around.

Every bad thing that could happen – happened. Every faulty decision – came back and bit me in the behind.
Sickness has made me week, megalomaniac plans have taken away my time...and now, I am full circle. Hit by the worse news of all – somebody I love was diagnosed with the big C.

You never know, until you know. Until you are there. We talk and talk about cancer, and even more so – about breast cancer. Frankly, it’s a washed out topic, diminished and in the back of our minds, until – the diagnosis. After that – there are no pink ribbons, fancy races for a cause, or happy smiley survivor women. It’s the doctors offices, the death rates, and mayor decision you don’t understand.

And there’s fear.

And anger. Lots and lots of anger. Staggering amounts.

You go from cursing to prayer, and right back to howling at the moon and injustice.

I have lost 15 to 20 pounds in a matter of days, my immune system is shot, and I don’t rememeber the last night I slept trough without having fits of crying. And I’m not even the one with this hanging over my head. I’m just on the band wagon, scared to even google statistics for stage III breast cancer.
But I have googled. And googled. And blown my own mind. When personal stories were no longer enough, I read trough scholarly articles and books. Those were even more horrifying with their death rates, pathology reports, chances of reoccurrence, and brutal stories of bone, lung or liver metastasis.

I have had enough. I was done, ready to just curl in to a ball, and sob my hear out until somebody else came along and found themselves fit enough to be support to a breast cancer patient.

Thankfully, a well meaning cyber friend, recommended The Mayo Clinic Breast Cancer Book by the breast-health experts at Mayo Clinic Cancer Center as a weekend read.

And it was perfect.

Mind you, you still aren’t going to find all the information needed, nor are you gonna be able to sweep the worry under a rug. This is not a coping techniques book! This is a book about pure, undisclosed facts. They will help you understand on a non-threatening level what is going on with you or your loved ones that have been diagnosed with breast cancer. It covers all the basics, and serves as a well written panel on which you can build up your knowledge.

There is a long battle ahead. For me. For the locally advanced breast cancer patient that is a part of my family. For other women (and men!) that have breast cancer. It is a battle that will last a lifetime. It is a vicious circle that never ends. It is this and more.
So, make every day precious. Schedule a mammography even thou you have no symptoms or family history of bc. My loved one was having regular test, is a fit vegetarian with no family history of bc, and more importantly…no symptoms until her bc was found on a scan – she was still staged at IIIa, with lymph node invasion because the hotspot was in the upper outer quadrant of the breast.

Be careful. Be precise. Be aware. Stay healthy. Stay positive. And read this book. Even if you don’t have cancer. Just take the time to understand it.

Morgan ran her hand through Seth’s hair. “Why do I still have my boots on?”

“Because you gave me the ride of my life last night.” Seth flashed a devilish grin.

“Yes.” He laughed. “This one is my favorite.” Seth turned over onto his side, displaying his back.

Morgan searched his back, arms, and shoulders. “I don’t see anything.”

“That’s because you’re looking for New York when you should be looking for Florida.”

Morgan’s eyes drifted lower until she reached his ass. There were two distinct bites marks. “Why did you let me bite you?”

“We were trying something new. I went with the flow. You don’t hear me complaining. Any other sports you took up in high school?”

“Fencing.” She smirked. “Let’s see you turn that into something dirty.”

“I can lunge at you with my saber any time you like.”

“You know fencing?”

“Good for hand-eye coordination. I like to watch if I catch it on TV. Besides, you never know when sword fighting will come back in style.”

She laughed while rubbing her temples. “Do you have something for a hangover?”

“I don’t know if you deserve it.” Seth tickled her sides.

“Ouch! Don’t make me giggle, it makes my head hurt.”

“Damn. I suppose I can mix up something I call the Morning after Mixer. I make it for the guys when they party too hard when we’re on the road.”

She peered from behind the pillow. “What’s in it?”

“You don’t want to know.”

“Raw eggs?” She shuddered, remembering the concoctions he made daily.

Cassie and Josh were high school sweethearts. He was the rich kid/quarterback/bright future ahead. She was... the opposite. And, still they were so in love it seemed like nothing can shake them. Not even pregnancy at seventeen. Josh proposed, they got married, and he was ready to change all the plans, and stick with his new family. Until there was no baby, and no reason for him to stay.

Five years later, Josh is in England. Bright future is just a step away. He is engaged, and all he needs in order to finally leave his old life behind, and turn to the future, is divorce. But, that's one thing Cassie can't give. Not yet. Because things are not always so simple. Life tends to throw surprises along the way. Josh is about to face the past in a way that he never dreamed he would. And he's about to find out just how complicated it actually was.

I have to admit, No Reverse is not what I thought it would be. Although I expected angst, and a whole lot of issues judging by the blurb, it turned out to be more. It is told in dual first person POV, so we get to see both perspectives. The story jumps back and forth between present, following Cassie on her way to England and going from there, and past - that shows us the last year of their relationship, until the bitter end. The pace is slow and steady, so there is no rushing, despite this being a rather short read.

The best part of the story, hands down, was the past. Josh's voice was so sweet. Seeing two teenagers, best friends, so in love, so hopeful, grabbed me right away. Even when things turned bad, emotions were still there, the connection was still there, though it seemed like hope was long gone...

The present part is actually what I had issues with. I understand the doubts, confusion, anger, betrayal, lies... The motivation is clear but, at some point, it all became a bit too much. Actually, the characters began to waver a bit too much at times. It was hard for me to see the old Josh in the new and (not so) improved version, as much as it was hard to go through all the sharp turns that happened along the way. I had absolutely no idea where the story is going at some points. And, though the ending turned out to be as expected, somehow it was still not what I thought it would be.

Overall, No Reverse is a nice, emotional read. If NA is your cup of tea, and you enjoy angst, be sure to give it a chance.

For those of you who are avoiding cliffhangers (like me), you won't find it here... as such. The story does have an open ending though, and a sequel will be out in the Winter 2014.

Marion’s parents are terribly disappointed with her…

Oh, my... and, what a game this is!

Honestly, when I signed up for this Tour, I seriously thought I'll have the time to recover (well, yes, I knew it won't be a walk in the park), and write a proper review. As it happens, I was wrong. In an effort not to give anything away, and be as vague as possible, I'll keep this short (and somewhat sweet).

If you've read "Consequences", you'll know what I'm talking about when I say that a book like that (a mindf*ck like that, more accurately) is not easy to find. It is simply brilliant. Brilliant enough to leave me obsessing with questions. Disturbing and unpredictable enough to make me doubt it's possible to top it. Once again, I was wrong. Aleatha Romig is a bloody genius!

There's a part of me that always suffers when a story doesn't immediately go the way I wanted it... needed it... to go. And, suffer I did. Every now and then, throughout most of this book. I should probably be used to it all by now. Still, this is one of those times when I actually feel torn - because I was so sure that I'll be... well, sure. Of anything. Now I don't even know if it's only because I need to finish "Convicted" before I give my final say, or is it that I'm still too dizzy from this damn roller coaster ride to think clearly.

Do I hate Tony? No. Do I like him? Um... yes. At times, I probably even liked him a bit too much. There goes my love for the tortured, broken heroes. Next thing you know, I'm jumping up and down wanting to see him get a HEA. But, that's just me...

"Truth" is amazing. Incredible. Confusing. Prepare for a mind blowing ride. It gives you the answers, but at the same time raises more questions, and you can never be sure what's waiting ahead. Emotions are all over the place. You'll love what you hated, hate what you loved... You'll want the bad to be good. And enjoy that the good turned just a little bit bad. And still things keep happening. New players are on the board. The game is far from over.

And, "Convicted" can't some soon enough!

We're happy to welcome Aleatha Romig today. I'm sure you all have a lot of questions (I know I do!). Here's what Aleatha had to share with us... Hope you'll enjoy it!

Did anything inspire you to write “Consequences” and “Truth”? Or was it more random than anything?

I believe it was more random. I had the “thought” of the opening scene of Consequences. Everything has grown from that. The characters have taken on lives and personalities of their own. I’ve loved watching them blossom!

Can you name some funny and/or random things that happened while you were writing “Truth”? (It can be something that happened in the story, or something that happened with your family. Anything at all!)

I wrote about six beginnings to Truth. That’s based on the Epilogue of Consequences. I took the story many different directions. It wasn’t until I came to terms with where I wanted the story to go that I was finally able to start truly writing. Once I did, Mr. Jeff told me that no one would like it. He said the readers would be upset. It wasn’t that I didn’t care—but, I can’t write that way. I have to write what I want to write.

I’ve learned that it isn’t possible to please EVERYONE. Therefore, I’ve decided to please myself. Funny thing—the ratings and reviews are fantastic for Truth.

Who is your inspiration?

I have met many authors who I consider inspirational; however, I’d say my grandmothers were my inspiration. That isn’t because they wrote books—they showed me, by example, how hard work and sincerity make a lasting impression.

Apart from writing novels, what else you do? Are you a full time writer, if yes, what do you when you're not writing? Have any hobbies or obsessions?

I’m not a full-time writer yet. I will be in three weeks. Currently, I have NO life outside of work and writing. That is my plan for the future—to have a life as well as an obsession. Writing is my obsession! I LOVE getting lost in my manuscript. I will sit down and suddenly five hours have passed. When I’m doing other things the manuscript and the characters will infiltrate my thoughts. It is the most addicting thing I’ve ever done!

I’d say if I’m not writing, working, or with family, I’m reading.

What is in your TBR pile?

OMG! It is a mile long! Currently, I’m reading the final book of the Sookie Stackhouse, Charlene Harris Series. I’ve read them all and feel obligated to know how it all ends. E.K. Blair’s Fading is on the top of my TBR list. I met her briefly at Book Bash. Her book has done remarkably well for her first novel. I’m looking forward to it! There are SO many more...I need to disappear for a month and lose myself to reading! That would be heaven.

Do you have any exciting stories about your latest novel Truth that you think will be of readers interest?

When I wrote Consequences, I did not plan on it being the beginning of a trilogy or a series. I thought it was a standalone book; however, my readers wanted to know what happened next. To be honest, so did I.

Tony and Claire wouldn’t leave me alone. I thought about them constantly. I needed to learn the TRUTH of their story. I mean, did Claire really love him? Did she only go on with their relationship because of Stockholm syndrome? What about Tony? Why would he do what he did at the end of Consequences? Were Claire’s consequences planned from the beginning? How do their ancestors fit into the story? I had SO many lingering questions...the only way to learn the answers was to sit down and write. I can just say...after surviving the Consequences—everyone NEEDS to learn the TRUTH!

Anything else you want to share?

The final book in the series is CONVICTED. I’m super excited about this installment. I kinda have a reputation as a “Mind F***”. I take that title seriously and quoting Tony, “I didn’t want to disappoint—public failure isn’t an option.”

If you have read Off Series, you already know Renner is Nix and Linc's cousin. She's off in Ireland after losing her job, trying to figure out what to do with her life, and where to go from there. The trouble is, she had it all mapped out. The perfect job, the ideal man to spend her life with... and, she's about to realize things are not always how they seem.

Enter Cillian. Five years earlier, he was the hottest guy she'd ever seen. He's the frontman of the Over the Edge band. Seriously hot... and seriously not the one for commitment. After their first encounter went... not so well, Renner is not too happy to see him again. But, he remembers her, and she's about to find out that what you think you need may turn out to be all wrong for you.

Once again, the story is told in dual first person POV. And, again, I have to point out that it gives an additional dimension to the story, and the characters. It's nice to see both sides, know their thoughts and follow them on their journey to finding love.

Off Course being New Adult, you already expect to find a certain amount of angst. Which is fine. Well, maybe it wouldn't be so fine, but it works perfectly here, so there's no reason to complain.

Another thing that I love about this series is the fact that every book can be read as a stand alone. No cliffhangers. Just grab a book, and enjoy reading it, without having to worry about when the next one will come out.

The book is set in Ireland, so it definitely has a different feel. As I'm not from Ireland, I can't really say if it's authentic enough, or how a Dublin native would feel reading it, but I really loved that part.

Now, what I need to mention is this - Off Course touched some rather serious issues. Alcohol abuse and suicide attempts, to be exact. True, the treatment part (even the pretreatment) was far from realistic. And, though I understand it was done that way so the storyline could work, I highly appreciate the Afterthoughts.

Now, the epilogue. The funny thing is - I adore it. And, I'd probably be the first to nag about it, and complain there wasn't more, but it just felt... right. Flynn's voice is amazing... and, what little there was to learn about his story - and his past - made me squirm, and want to read it right now. Well done!

Overall, Off Course is a great read. I really enjoy Sawyer Bennett's style. She has a way of creating characters that you simply have to adore. If you love NA, you should definitely give this series a chance. Hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did.

Taking a deep breath, I open the door. I don't even have time to sort out my feelings because Cillian's hands snake out. One wraps around my waist and the other cups the back of my head, pulling me to him. His mouth covers mine and he literally bends me backward, giving me the deepest, hottest kiss I've ever had in my life. The moment his tongue invades my mouth, he lets out a groan that seems to emanate from deep inside of him and that sound completely melts my insides. I don't want to, but my hands do what they want and wrap around his neck to hang on.

The kiss is demanding, and yet he seems to be seeking something from me. Something more than just the immediate gratification of his desire.

But no sooner has the kiss started then Cillian straightens up his body, pulling me up flush with him. His kiss lightens until he's just nibbling on my lips, an action I find to be sexy and endearing at the same time. He finally pulls his lips away and rests his forehead against mine.

"God, I needed that," he says. He sounds tired.

I pull away to look at him. "Where have you been?" I hope my question sounds merely curious and not accusing in any way.

He releases me and rubs the back of his neck with one hand, as if he has the weight of the world resting there.

"I had some crap to take care of. Can I come in?"

Crap to take care of? And that was more important than calling me or seeing me, especially after we shared that pantie-shredding kiss?

I cross my arms over my chest and block the entrance to my apartment. Now that his body is removed from mine, some of my common sense is returning. I'm now remembering why I tend to shy away from men like Cillian. He's too unpredictable. Unreliable. He has the power to disappoint me.

"I don't think that's a good idea," I say, hoping my words don't betray the desire my body is still feeling and very much wants to invite him in.

He tilts his head to the side and narrows his dark eyes at me. "The way you kissed me just now says different. Why the cold shoulder?"

My own eyes narrow back at him. "Cold shoulder? I find it funny you would accuse me of that."

Cillian sighs and rubs his neck again. "Look. I'm sorry I haven't been to see you. But something important did come up. Trust me when I say I would have rather been with you. I would have rather been anywhere than where I was."

Something about his voice weakens my resolve just a bit. I don't know if he would have rather been with me, but I don't doubt by the tone of his voice that he did not enjoy whatever it was he was doing. "Come on in and I'll make some tea. And you can tell me all about it."

I step aside to let him pass but he doesn't move. "It's not something I really want to talk about."

Um... yeah... that's just not going to do.

"Then you can just be on your merry way then. You kissed me the other night, Cillian, and it was good. No, that's not right. It was great. It was a kiss that told me something better was to come. It was a kiss that convinced me to possibly give you a chance. But I'll be damned if I'm going to be strung along and I'll be damned if I'm going to be available for your whims. You can either convince me that the something else was more important, or you can get the hell gone."

I hold my breath, waiting for his reaction. I'm not even sure if I really care which direction he will choose. Part of me wants to expand my horizons and see what this insane attraction is that’s brewing between us. But another part of me, the part that is still the safe, responsible Renner Caldwell, wants him to turn tail and run. That ultimately would be the easiest on me.

My options to Cillian are to leave or to come in and tell me where he was. He chooses to do neither.

Instead, he moves so fast, I don't even have time to register what he's doing. His hands come and grip my head. His mouth comes down on me brutally, pushing my lips apart while he starts walking me backward into my apartment.

I'm vaguely aware he kicks out with a booted foot to slam my door shut. He continues walking me backward until I'm flush up against my living room wall.
The halt in my backward progress doesn't stop him. He merely reaches down with one hand, wraps it under my ass, and hauls me up so that my core is pressed up against his hardness. He does this without even breaking the kiss, thoroughly intent on exploring every inch of my mouth with his tongue.

What made me join the Tour, and give this book a shot (although it's something that could have easily slipped by me) are those two words - Dude Lit. Honestly, how could I resist it? I'm happy to say it is everything I was hoping to find, and it even managed to exceed my expectations. Not an easy job, that's for sure...

Mandatory Release is written in dual POV - Graham's first person, and Drew's third person. And, though it can be tricky, and is not always done right, Jess Riley showed exactly how it's suppose to be done. Not to mention the fact that Graham's voice is just perfect. It's everything I could ask for when it comes to male POV. It's strong, real and captivating.

The story has an unusual setting, but although it ties the characters to a highly specific place and time, it also brings a feel to it that's just... universally human. You can relate to characters, understand them perfectly, and even feel exactly the same, without ever being in a situation that's even close to the one they find themselves in.

Mandatory Release is a dark story, but its humor and all the elements combined, make it a unique mix that is much more than just dark... or just emotional for that matter. There is a lot of melancholy, broken people struggling to make sense of their lives and move on, make the best out of the circumstances they found themselves in, and - most of all - learn through it all.

I enjoyed Graham's humor, seeing the way he deals with his paralysis, and even occasional bitter moments -that are more than expected in the situation... Still, all the wit of the story aside, there are times when it's just painfully honest. But, what grabbed me more than anything else is the way it turns from dark to funny in a blink. You can't help but laugh. And, you can't help but wonder...

All in all, Mandatory Release was an amazing, unexpected read. I highly recommend it, if you are in the mood for something that might not be your usual cup of tea. It's definitely worth a try!

I roll my eyes at the new nickname he's recently begun calling me. Sunshine. Rhane. Get it?

"I'm teasing. This thing probably weighs twice as much as you," as he hoists himself effortlessly up into the bed and unhooks the tailgate straps allowing it to swing freely. He pulls out two boards and sets them at an angle from the truck to the ground, creating a crude ramp of sorts.

I watch him pull on a pair of worn leather gloves and he goes to work feeding a rope through the eyelets of two large hooks threaded into the back of the doghouse. I breathe into my hands, trying to warm the fingertips left bare by my own pitiful gloves.

His eyes flicker to my hands. "When you going to get yourself some real damn gloves anyway?"

I give him a middle finger salute and childishly stick out my tongue. "Shut up," I huff.

He turns his back to me, and his shoulders shake in silent laughter. "Feisty," he mutters. My eyes slowly slide down from his broad upper back before locking on the way his tight jeans accentuate the firmness of his fine ass. I start to warm up and nerve endings all over my lower half ignite. My cheeks blossom into what I'm sure must be a brilliant scarlet.

He glances at me, doing a double take, "You cold?"

I crinkle my nose and shake my head. Hopeful he can't read just how un-cold I really am. "No why?"

"Your cheeks are red," he pulls the rope taut and threads it through the pickup bed. "You must be cold. Either that, or you're blushing." That left cheek dimple reappears, and I wonder if he's flirting with me.

I think he's figured out that he flusters the hell out of me. He's sort of cocky that way. Unfortunately for me, I've always had a thing for cocky, self-assured, slightly egotistical men. Who wants boring, when you can have a bad ass? Especially the ones everyone says to stay away from.

I read, I write, I run 1/2 marathons for fun. Ten things about me:

“In Wuthering Heights the reader is shocked, disgusted, almost sickened by details of cruelty, inhumanity, and the most diabolical hate and vengeance.”

“Heathcliff… a creature in whom every evil passion seems to have reached a gigantic excess.”

Thus read the reviews of Wuthering Heights when it was first released in December 1847. It was obvious that Emily Bronte had written something polarizing. Some people were disgusted with the book. Others were impressed with it.

It was horrifying but fascinating. And I think if the book is read today, the same phenomenon occurs. The characters in the book are intriguing, but they are also difficult to, well, like.

No character is more difficult than Heathcliff himself. Even Emily Bronte’s sister Charlotte was made uncomfortable by Heathcliff. She wrote that Heathcliff’s love for Cathy was “a sentiment fierce and inhuman.” She called Heathcliff an “evil genius.” To Charlotte, Heathcliff’s “ever-suffering soul… dooms him to carry Hell with him wherever he wanders.”

Is Heathcliff tortured and damaged like a modern-day romance hero? You betcha.

Is Heathcliff the titular bad boy, the one whose masculine power is absorbing and exciting? Oh, heck, yes.

Heathcliff is a character unlike any that we’ve seen before, but he’s not completely foreign to us. He has aspects of a hero, but he also has aspects of a villain. We root for Heathcliff as he struggles to overcome the class barriers that keep him from marrying Cathy. We feel sorry for him when he is beaten by Hindley. And we are utterly caught up in his passion, his deep love for Cathy. But at the same time, Heathcliff disturbs and frightens us. He’s violent. He’s cruel. He’s obsessed with revenge. And he seems irredeemable.

When I set out to retell Wuthering Heights, I wanted to capture that with my book. I took some pretty heavy liberties with Bronte’s tale, but my goal was always to be able to provide the kinds of characters that she does—confusing, deep, real characters, full of flaws but still captivating.

A retelling can never truly hope to encapsulate the brilliance of the original, so I know that my book is not even close the masterpiece of Wuthering Heights. But I hope that my Heath is absorbing. I hope that he inspires your pity and your anger. And I hope you fall in love with him just a little bit, despite how awful he is.

V. J. Chambers likes bad boys, but she likes them to be actual bad boys, not misunderstood weaklings who cover up their emotional scars with a thin veneer of pretend bad-boy-ness.
She likes to tackle difficult philosophical questions. She likes to push fiction to the edge, to go just a little farther.
She writes stories about difficult people living difficult lives in difficult situations. Usually, there’s magic. Or monsters. Or space. Or gun fights. A lot of times, there’s also L-O-V-E. (Or at least uncomfortable conversations about sex.)
