GOT YOU BACK - Jane Fallon

If you search for easy reading and fun book to read, 'Got You Back' by Jane Fallon is surely the perfect option.
The story is flowing so easily and you will always be curious of things that happen the next before the other. And at the end of the book Jane give enough space for the readers to have their own ending version of the story without missing any point of the story. That kind of ending makes this book a good material for a book-club. I'm sure this book will encourage an interesting conversation.

"But revenge isn't always sweet. And what happens when one woman thinks enough is enough but the other doesn't know when to stop?"
This is written on the back cover of the book, and it keeps making me wondering who is the 'not enough' one until I read the part. It was a tantalizing reading experience. Jane fallon is a writer who never write a chick-lit clichés so you will never taste a usual plot of a chick-lit. Everytime you think you know what will happen next, Jane Fallon give more than that.
For a refreshing chick-lit, I go for Jane Fallon's novels.

SAD NEWS FROM ON OF OUR CREW

Dear Friend,
All of you probably notice lately Aang is rarely seen in our store. It's been almost a month Aang is absent. At first he informed us that he suffered "DB" (Demam Berdarah). We heard that he was hospitalized in Santo Yusuf Hospital. The next day we visited him but he was already moved to his hometown hospital.

Today we have receive new information about Aang latest condition and it's surprised all of us. His uncle said that it's been two days he's been in a comma. In that condition we couldn't just ignore him. We have made decision to visit him tomorrow.

For that reason to we have to inform, tomorrow Reading Lights will be closed. But we will be open again on Tuesday as usual. We are sorry for this unexpected situation.
We hope all of you would also pray and wish for Aang recovery so he will be able to share his funny jokes with all of you again.

We have new Uniforms now

Look at the picture guys, that's us now. We have a new uniform. The other colour is red. Awesome, We all like these uniforms. The picture can tell you how happy we are to have this T-shirt. We will use it every Thursday until Sunday.
On Thursday and Saturday we will use the red one, for Friday and Sunday, we use the black one. So you will notice us if you come to our lovely store. Come to visit, see us with our new uniforms.

Lunch Time!!!

Reading Lights Journal: 17 February 2010

Don't be surprise if sometimes you come to visit us and you found us eating together at one of our table. It has became our habit to eat lunch together. Sometimes we buy our own meals but some other times we collect our money and cook our own meals (to be precise, our chef cooked it ^_^).
On this day we prepared our own lunch. Dedi our assistant chef is the one who cooked us the meals with Ponpon's help. Since both of them are the ones who have off-day on wednesday, they are the one who prepared everything. Starting from shopping until preparing it. Ponpon make the 'sambal' and dedi prepare the rice, it's 'nasi uduk'. They also fry the 'ikan asin' and tofu. The meals are so delicious through the last bite.
Having lunch time together brings us closer. We throw jokes on each other while having lunch (although probably you might witness us throwing jokes while working). We also share stories and sometimes come up with ideas to run the store on that time. This is one of many parts that make Reading Lights a great place to work, the feeling of having second family. We are like many other family, having lunch together and enjoying everybody company. Just like many other family out there.

As you all know we, Reading Lights, are always trying to give customer the best service as a friend. In doing that, we've come across many things; from financial problem until service strategies. One thing that we just analyzed is the exchanged book policy for customer and the result is quite surprising. The service that we thought could bring benefit for both customer and Reading Lights, is actually jeopardizing our financial and of course indirectly made us not able to improve our service to you; customers. So to overcome this situation we've made new regulation concerning book exchanged policy. Here below is the new exchanged book regulation:
> Only Member are able to exchanged the book.
> The exchanged book price tag must be over than Rp.10,000,-
> The exchanged promo cannot be used with other promotion services such as coffee corner 10% discount for member, stamp exchange, and other promotions.
> The new book exchanged percentage is 25%

A long with this new regulation we also have new service to offer:
> Knitting workshop will be changed into Knitting Circle, which means that the participant will not be charge for anything except buying at least one knitting item.
> All the circle participants get 15% discount coffee corner coupon.
> All Customer are welcomed to enjoy Friday Night Movie Lounge for free.
> All Customer can join our new circle; Macbook Circle on friday afternoon.

We hope these new regulation could give us more chance to improve our service. Thank you for your attention.

FRIENDSHIP in my opinion, what's yours?

-Friendship-
What is it mean? You may and should have the answer about this word. In my opinion, friendship is.. hmmmmmm... something that you must have it to live. Why?
because we are the social people. We need other person to through this life. Without them, we can live to make a beutiful life. But, is it hard to find a truly
friend to live with us?
I have a friend that i thought he will be my est friend forever. This is what i thought about 10 years ago. In junior high school, we always play together. Play football together in one football club in my town until someday many of our friend call us the twin brother even we are not in the same blood line. Many people said we are twin because our face look similar.
That's a short story years ago. but now, even though we are in the same city, we rarely meet each other because we are not in the same collage. But we still friend. But i think he is not my best friend anyway. I have so many friend out there. And no one of them is my best friend.
The only one i know who can be our best friend is GOD.
But, friendship still the thing that we should have to live this wild life to stay ALIVE.

That's my opinion about friendship. So, what's yours?

Nevertheless, there's always difficult time that we had to face. It is friendship that give us the courage to keep moving on.

What a day man!!! Something stuck in my nose. Oh i don't like the situation like this. i got FLU yesterday and it makes me can not really focus on my job.
This is a short story about me and others RL staffs. I was arrived in RL at 9.50 am. Something different with RL this day. i tried to find what was it. And finally I realized that the decoration of Rl was changed. The color of the wall has completely changed. Wow, great colour. But still i did not feel good because of my body bad condition.
And wow again, Not only me who had a bad condition. There were Poni and Meldi who got flu too. Huahahahahah...i was glad i had friends who had same condition with me.
This is my first note of the day. I wrote it because i had nothing to do.
Oh, i have important message for you all. This note is the first note to start READING LIGHTS DAILY ACTIVITIES. This blog will be the blog for reading lights' staff daily activities because we have a website now. You can visit us in READINGLIGHTS.web.id.
That's all what i want to say rite now... This is just a testing note. Have fun to read.

8. In Search of Lost Time Marcel Proust

I appreciate the great artistic merit in Proust’s writing, but I have to be honest and say that I have never managed to get more than half way through the first book of this multiple-book novel. I found it extremely slow paced and boring. This is Proust’s most prominent work, it is popularly known for its extended length and the notion of involuntary memory, the most famous example being the “episode of the madeleine” in which he describes in great (boring) detail, eating a madeleine dipped in tea.

Whatever people said, The Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie is having its Booker Prize and Whitbread Prize, and earned the author a death sentence.

Two actors from India, "prancing" Gibreel Farishta and "buttony, pursed" Saladin Chamcha, are flying across the English Channel when the first of many implausible events occurs: the jet explodes. As the two men plummet to the earth, "like titbits of tobacco from a broken old cigar," they argue, sing and are transformed. When they are found on an English beach, the only survivors of the blast, Gibreel has sprouted a halo while Saladin has developed hooves, hairy legs and the beginnings of what seem like horns. What follows is a series of allegorical tales that challenges assumptions about both human and divine nature. Rushdie's fanciful language is as concentrated and overwhelming as a paisley pattern. Angels are demonic and demons are angelic as we are propelled through one illuminating episode after another. Memoirs of Geisha by Arthur Golden

This book is definitely one of my favorite books, I've read it back when I was in high school, and I may say, this book really change the way I choose things I read now.

It is a fairy tale. In details. In Japan. If Cinderella born in Japan, she would be this little Chiyo, a fisherman's daughter who transformed into a beautiful and most respected geisha in Kyoto, Sayuri, thanks to the Fairy (not so) Godmother Mameha. There're also the Mother and 'stepsister' Pumpkin and Hatsumomo. And of course, in every fairy tale there's this Prince Charming, known as The Chairman in this book.

I love the details, as women would usually do. And this book would tell you anything about geisha, the geisha-school, how they reach the top of their status, things they really used to paint their faces as white as snow, or even the way they sleep without ruining their advanced-hair-styling. It's fun also to know how the culture and tradition taught them to kiss, or hug, or massaging...and so on.

This book is a cocktail of Japanese cultures, mixed with some romance, and intrigue between geisha in Kyoto, and historical stories. It's fun, light, but give you something to think and talk about.

I love this book. And so are a lot of people in Amazon.com. The fact is 1,645 people in amazon gave this book 5 stars!!
And you know what?

The Wheel on The School by Meindert deJong

In order to conclude the month of celebrations of International Children’s Day, we would like to give special review of a classic children book that had been awarded as the Newberry Medal recipient in 1955, The Wheel on the School by Meindert DeJong.

This heartfelt lovely tale took place in Shora, a little fishing village in Holland. There lived six school children who all went to the same school: Jella, the biggest and the huskiest of all children; Eelka, who was fat, clumsy, and slow, except his mind; Auka, a nice average boy; Pier and Dirk, the inseparable twin brothers; and Lina, the only girl in that small school.

The story began with Lina writing a composition about storks and reading it to the class. She was initially astonished by the fact that the storks went to all the villages all around but Shora. Her opus then raised the question between the children as to why the storks came and built their nest in the village of Nes, next to Shora, but never did so in Shora. This was when the teacher encouraged the class to find out for themselves and they started to wonder and wander to get the answer.

They discovered that the roofs on their village's homes were pitched so steeply that the storks could not find space to nest on the sharp ridges. So they had to place a wagon wheel on each roof ridge to give storks a place to nest. The task of finding a wagon wheel in that tiny village proved to be difficult. But during their search, the children met several interesting personalities and learned valuable things from their encounters.

The Wheel on the School is a happy story, written with freshness, beauty, humor, tenderness, and understanding of children. The simple, yet compelling plot, teaches that if we think and wonder why, things will begin to happen and dreams will come true. There is also this conversation that stated “In order to figure out what stork would want, we should try to think the way a stork would think”, which is a wonderful thing to say to children.

And when the children were getting desperate because of facing a dead lock, the teacher boosted their spirit by saying “There’s where things have to start: with a dream. Of course, if you just go on dreaming, then it stays a dream and becomes stale and dead. But first to dream and then to do, isn’t that the way to make a dream come true?”. A simple logic thought also being taught here as the follow-up to the dream premise “Now we are getting to something that we can do. Now do you see? We wondered why and we reasoned it out. Now we must do”.

As you see, The Wheel on the School is more than the story of school children trying to bring storks to their village on the North Sea. It is a story of people everywhere, of how important people are, irregardless of their age, physical condition, or how they make a living. It encourages us to go beyond what we see on the surface. It shows us that when we help others and care about others, good things will come to us. The children originally wanted to lure storks to their little village because the storks were said to bring good luck. Little did they know that storks would send good fortune ahead in the form of newfound friendships, help for others, and a community that came closer together than it had been before.

The book serves intergenerational tale of love and friendship. It also suggests that you could find help and providence in the places you might least expect them.

This is a timeless story with appeal to all ages.

Ribsy By Beverly Cleary

It is about a dog, Ribsy, who is very much loved by his owner Henry Huggins. He climbs out of his family's car in a shopping mall parking lot and decides to do a bit of exploring. When Ribsy thinks he has found the Hugginses' new station wagon at last, he jumps in the open tailgate window and falls asleep, exhausted. When he wakes up find himself in the wrong car, lots of little girls pet him and make plans to give him a bath. All Ribsy wants to do is go home to Henry. Instead, he's about to begin the liveliest adventure of his life.

Kids who own pets of their own will be able to relate to Henry's sadness over his missing dog, and his determination to find him no matter what.

We would be awed into suspence, wondering if poor old Ribsy would ever find his way home.
If you want your kids to love reading, we suggest that you buy this, read a chapter a night before bedtime, and soon they will want to read it themselves to find out what hapened next.

The Loner By Ester Wierl

A homeless, friendless, nameless young boy travels the country as a migrant worker, with the vague idea of reaching California. He prides himself on being able to look out for himself--relying on absolutely no one else for anything. When he reaches Montana sheep country, he meets some people who actually come to care about him. Can he overcome his natural (or acquired) suspicion and enforced independence to allow human emotions to enter and flow from his embittered heart?

He learns more than the responsibilities of a shepherd during the rough winter, when he battles his own reckless impulses and a growing jealousy of a young man he never met. This unlikely hero determines to settle down and win the respect of the Boss. Many of the characters are driven (like Captain Ahab in MOBY DICK) to hunt down and destroy the Bear that killed Boss' son. A thoughtful book that will challenge the reader.

The Loner is about A boy who was a crop picker and moved alot. In this story the boy is going to California but on his way is he is found by a lady named Boss. Boss is very manly and is a sheep hearder. when she finally finds the boy she names him from the Bible, David.
