About the concert

The Mystery Ensemble brings Howard Shore’s iconic soundtrack to life in a concert built to transport the audience into the heart of Tolkien’s universe — the world of elves, hobbits and dwarves at the centre of Peter Jackson’s films. Shore, a three-time Academy Award winner, wrote music that shaped the very essence of the trilogy, and the ensemble’s musicians perform its stirring, deeply emotional compositions in a church setting: “a chamber hall, the authentic sound of motifs from the soundtracks”, as the ensemble puts it.

The performers

Mystery Ensemble is a modern orchestra that performs film soundtracks live in their own arrangements. The ensemble is also in Dublin this July, performing The World of John Williams at the O’Reilly Theatre on Saturday 18 July 2026.

About the play

Mary’s mundane life as a stay-at-home housewife is turned upside down when her best friend pushes her into a new world full of exciting opportunities. But it comes at a cost: Mary has to overcome many obstacles, the biggest being her domineering husband. Will she bow under the pressure of social norms, or can she achieve all her hopes and dreams?

This is a unique brand of high-energy, observational comedy theatre rooted in Irish culture, delighting audiences with madcap moments of slapstick, rap, mime, song, dance, martial arts — and swimming. A cast of colourful characters includes cattle dealers, tennis players, greyhound trainers, 80s pop stars and the much-loved Marys, performed with a minimal set and a rich soundscape. Audience reactions say it best: “Fantastic show… haven’t laughed like it in years”; “Laugh out loud comedy gold!”

About the play

After three sold-out runs, this multi-award-winning play returns to the Viking. The one-man play, which premiered at the Viking in November 2024, was inspired by Paddy Armstrong’s memoir Life After Life, a Guildford Four Memoir, and stars Don Wycherley in the title role.

Fifty years after his wrongful conviction, at the age of 74, Paddy is facing into his twilight years and wrestling with a thousand turbulent memories. In Paddy he relives the moving, tender and often hilarious journey that forever altered his destiny — a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of forgiveness, reminding us that the privilege of freedom and love, family and everyday life can restore us and mend the scars of even the most savage injustice.

Don Wycherley brings unflinching honesty, pathos and humour to his portrayal of Paddy, a man failed and scarred by a flawed system yet refusing to be defined by it.

Who is Paddy Armstrong?

Paddy Armstrong is a native of Belfast, Northern Ireland. In 1975 he was falsely convicted of helping carry out the Guildford and Woolwich bombings, a conviction for which he spent 15 years in prison. Today, he lives in Clontarf, Dublin, with his wife and children.

About the play

Joxer Daly is a much-loved character in Sean O’Casey’s masterpiece Juno and the Paycock — a “butty” of Captain Boyle who lives by his wits, loitering in hallways and the surrounding streets hoping to hear something, or pick something up, that might be to his advantage. Eddie Naughton’s play examines the effect of rapidly changing times on this inhabitant of Dublin’s inner city, from the 1913 Lockout through the Easter Rising, the War of Independence and the Civil War.

First performed at Bewley’s Cafe Theatre in 2018 under the direction of the much-loved and lamented Karl Shiels, the production enjoyed a successful run at the Viking in 2020, and now Phelim Drew returns to Clontarf in the role. The critics were taken: “Phelim Drew is convincing as Joxer — the archetypal, gravelly Dub” (Sunday Times); “Phelim Drew is perfect for the part. He is every inch a Joxer” (Irish Independent); the Sunday Independent praised his “powerhouse performance as the wild-eyed, shambling figure”, and the Mail on Sunday gave it four stars.

About the show

Every morning for ten years, Lemn Sissay has written four lines and shared them on his socials with no explanation and no title. After catching the public’s attention, the poems have been transformed into murals, quoted in books, made into songs and even tattoos. He chose the best of them for Let the Light Pour In, which became an instant Sunday Times bestseller — and now a live show.

With live readings from his books, Lemn unravels some of the original stories behind the poems and how they have been used in people’s lives, and his own. Expect an evening full of truth, humour and hope, as he lets us into his morning poetry practice. As Fearne Cotton put it: “I am not sure I’ve read a more beautiful poetry book.”

About the play

John Bosco McLaine is a man who has never lain down with a woman, but has had romantic blood pulsing through his veins all his life. Always an optimist — and virgin in equal measure — he embarks on a search for an ideal companion regardless of age, failure rate or damned advice, following his heart in an ultimate bid to procure himself a wife in a community where advice is ample and women few.

Often referred to as the natural successor to John B. Keane as Ireland’s masterful present-day storyteller, Seamus O’Rourke brings the wistful, blundering, romantic John Bosco to life, matching stride for stride Keane’s fantastic wit and way with words in an uproarious evening of laughter, love, hope and desire.

About the play

Late Night Station is a sharp-edged, darkly comic drama that reveals how ordinary people become complicit in systems of control and denial. Blending absurd humour with political unease, Wise and Flannagan pass the night watching surveillance screens, feeding unseen dogs, and arguing about music, conspiracy theories, and the meaning of their work. What are they actually guarding — and who are the strangers who lurk close by?
