About the concert

The Mystery Ensemble brings Howard Shore’s iconic soundtrack to life in a concert designed to transport the audience into the heart of Tolkien’s universe — the world of elves, hobbits and dwarves that shaped Peter Jackson’s films. Shore, a three-time Academy Award winner, wrote some of the most emotionally charged film music of the era, and the ensemble performs it in its own arrangements for an intimate, atmospheric setting.

The advertised programme draws from across the trilogy and includes The Fellowship of the Ring, The Shire, Gollum, The Mirror of Galadriel, The Houses of Healing, May It Be and The Road Goes Ever On. The programme is subject to change.

The performers

Mystery Ensemble is a group of professional musicians who perform unique programmes in non-standard venues. Founded in 2021 by Almin Alexander, the project has built a wide repertoire spanning film and TV soundtracks, neoclassical works and tribute concerts, all presented in the ensemble’s own arrangements. For this evening the focus is squarely on Middle-earth.

About the venue

The concert takes place at St. Iberius Church on North Main Street, in the centre of Wexford town (Eircode Y35 R3WN). The 18th-century Church of Ireland building is well known locally for its acoustics, and the ensemble leans into the character of the space itself: the connection between the musicians, the surrounding architecture and the lighting is part of the atmosphere the performance is built around.

About the show

Following a sold-out rehearsed reading on Bloomsday 2025, Epiphany returns the much-loved characters of ‘The Dead’ to the stage — this time with Gretta Conroy at the centre. The action unfolds at the Misses Morkan’s annual supper party, a night filled with music, dancing and genteel skirmishes. Gretta has it all: a house on the Kingston line, a gentleman’s family, and a romantic night planned with her dutiful husband Gabriel at The Gresham. But when a love song from her past unearths long-buried memories, she is compelled to face the choices that shaped her and the path that lies ahead. Themes of love, loss and longing are excavated under the ghost weight of the past.

Cast and creative team

Lesley Conroy is an award-winning writer and IFTA-nominated actress; of her work in ‘A Christmas Visit’, The Arts Review wrote: ‘A magnetic performance — rich in tones, gestures, shrugs and glances… Conroy proves positively, if understatedly, electrifying’. She is joined by director Fiana Toibin, whose work has been seen in New York, LA, London and Dublin. The creative team is completed by Sinead O’Connor Ringwood (assistant director), Dara Gill (costume & set design), Brian Dillon (sound design) and Muirne Bloomer (choreography). The production was developed with support from Mark O’Halloran, The Arts Council, dlr Arts Office, DCC Arts Office, Cork Theatre Collective and Laois Arts Office, with thanks to Darina Gallagher at The Joyce Centre. Founded in 2025, tenderfire is dedicated to emotionally rich material of female fortitude that speaks to the soul of our time, regardless of age or gender.

About The New Theatre

The New Theatre is one of Dublin’s most respected homes for new writing and intimate ensemble work, tucked into the Connolly Books building at 43 Essex Street East in Temple Bar. The audience sits close enough to read every flicker of a performer’s face — precisely the right scale for a solo show built on memory, music and confession. The Fiona Hurley Auditorium is the venue’s main performance space.

What to expect on the night

This is theatre at its closest range: a single performer, a 60-minute run, and a story that builds in quiet waves before its emotional reveals land. Evening performances open doors at 19:20 for a 19:30 start; the Saturday matinee on 13 June opens doors at 14:45 for a 15:00 start. The closing performance on Tuesday 16 June falls on Bloomsday, making it a fitting finale to a Joyce-inspired piece staged in the heart of literary Dublin.

About the play

In a sun-blasted retirement home on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two ageing residents pass their days trading barbs, jokes and grievances as they wait for time to do what it always does. Their brittle comedy masks deeper fears about decline, memory and the approach of death. When a mysterious outsider joins them, the familiar rhythms of their banter begin to fracture, and what starts as a darkly comic portrait of old age shifts into something stranger, more unsettling — and unexpectedly moving.

First presented to great acclaim in 2010, Barry McKinley’s Elysium, Nevada was nominated for the Irish Times Best New Play Award. As the poster asks: “In the desert you can’t remember your name… or can you?”

About the play

Cait has returned to Dublin determined to get her life back on track and prove to her mother that she isn't a total mess. Eoin, a proud Kerryman, is working in finance with a clear plan: graft hard, retire early, and head home to run his parents' farm in South Kerry. Against those very different plans, the two fall into a rollercoaster romance. As the production puts it, "we don't get to choose who we fall for — but it's the choices we make afterwards that can turn our entire world upside down."

About the play

Two characters, one room, one night. The Argument of Us opens after Rhys has walked out on Bishop, ending a decade together. Seven weeks of silence pass. Then Rhys comes back — not for a clean conversation in daylight, but for a midnight visit and a proposal: a pact, framed as a scientific experiment, that across one long night of drinking they will tell each other the absolute truth. Hidden resentments and heartfelt longings come up first. Then deeper secrets emerge, the kind that threaten the very thing the experiment was meant to save. By morning, it will be either a fresh start together or a clean break. No regrets.

The play belongs to a long and recognisable lineage of intimate two-handers — couples locked in a room with alcohol, history, and the option to lie. The closest reference points are works in the tradition of Patrick Marber's Closer, Mike Bartlett's Cock, and the late-night confessionals that run through Conor McPherson's chamber pieces: relationships stripped to the joists, language as both weapon and rescue, and a structure that lets the audience watch two people decide, in real time, what they are willing to lose.

About The New Theatre

The New Theatre is one of Dublin's most respected homes for new writing and intimate ensemble work. Tucked into the Connolly Books building on Essex Street East in Temple Bar, the venue has built its reputation on small-scale productions where the audience sits close enough to read every flicker of a performer's face. Funded by the Arts Council of Ireland, Dublin City Council and Dublin UNESCO City of Literature, the theatre runs an annual New Writing Development Week and consistently programmes contemporary Irish playwriting alongside cult classics and world premieres. The Fiona Hurley Auditorium is the venue's main performance space.

What to expect on the night

This is theatre at its closest range. The New Theatre's auditorium puts the audience within a few rows of the action, which is precisely the right scale for a play built around two people, a midnight visit and a drinking pact. Expect a single setting, a real-time pressure cooker, and the kind of pacing that builds in small confessional waves before the bigger reveals land. Evening shows have a 19:00 doors call for a 19:30 start; the Saturday matinee on 30 May opens doors at 14:00 for a 14:30 start. The play is recommended for ages 14 and up.

A unique concert is coming to Dublin this May. Recomposed by Max Richter: Vivaldi, The Four Seasons takes place at the atmospheric O'Reilly Theatre on Sunday 10 May 2026, performed by the extraordinary Mystery Ensemble — an evening featuring Antonio Vivaldi's famous cycle The Four Seasons in the unique interpretation of contemporary composer Max Richter.

Vivaldi, Reinterpreted

Max Richter reinterpreted Antonio Vivaldi's music in the spirit of minimalism and postmodernism. Recomposed by Max Richter: Vivaldi, The Four Seasons is one of Richter's most famous works. After its release in 2012, the recording topped the iTunes Classical Music charts in over 20 countries.

About Max Richter

Max Richter is the composer of music for dozens of feature films and documentaries. The European Film Academy voted him the best film composer in 2008. He has recorded 12 solo albums and performed at venues including the London Barbican, the Paris Philharmonic and the Sydney Opera.

After a sell‑out premiere in Los Angeles, a sold‑out run at Bewley's Café Theatre and a critically acclaimed BBC Radio adaptation, SHARD — Stewart Roche's gripping Irish folk horror — arrives at the Viking Theatre, Clontarf, for a limited Dublin run from 5 to 16 May 2026. Eleven performances. One man on stage. One island that should never have been lived on.

An Irish folk horror — what's it about?

An isolated island. An idyllic commune of like‑minded people. A chance at a new beginning.

You wouldn't think it to look at him now, but Spooner was once the perfect company man — until an invitation from the enigmatic Kemp drew him into a community where the promise of a different life concealed something far more unsettling. Some places are never meant to be lived in. And in some places, nature has a will of its own.

What the critics are saying

★★★★★ The Arts Review — "SHARD is touched by the aura of brilliance."

★★★★ Irish Mail on Sunday — "One of the most striking performances of this or any year."

★★★★ Sunday Independent — "A gripping Irish folk horror… Fleming is alarmingly good."

★★★★ No More Workhorse — "A triumph of atmosphere and imagination."

The production

Directed by Alan Smyth and performed by Neill Fleming, this taut 60‑minute solo show builds atmosphere through language, sound and a tightening sense of dread. Fleming's performance has earned five‑ and four‑star reviews across Ireland for its precision and intensity — a one‑man masterclass that balances psychological unease with moments of dark humour.

Sound design by Amelia Anello and lighting by Colm Maher heighten the tension throughout. Produced by Elizabeth Boykewich.

Performance dates

SHARD plays the Viking Theatre nightly at 8:00pm (doors 7:45pm) from Tuesday 5 May to Saturday 16 May 2026. There is no Sunday performance.

What’s the event about?

Experience the Ireland premiere of Universe of Neoclassics: Contemporary Music & Dance – an immersive performance that unites modern classical music with contemporary dance****. Presented by Red Events & Distribution Ltd, this unique concert transforms sound into movement, turning music into a visual and emotional journey on stage. Set in the historic O’Reilly Theatre at Belvedere College, the show promises a multi-sensory evening where music is not only heard – it is embodied. Audiences of all ages (6+ recommended) can look forward to a clear, energetic and family-friendly event that invites you to experience beloved modern classical works in a brand-new light.

The Programme

Universe of Neoclassics blends live contemporary music and dance to reimagine modern masterpieces. The programme features works by renowned composers Ludovico Einaudi, Hans Zimmer, Max Richter, Ólafur Arnalds, Michael Nyman, and even the ethereal Celtic soundscapes of Enya. Each piece is performed live by the acclaimed Mystery Ensemble alongside original choreography by Riccardo Ardusso (Italy), with artistic direction by Ilaria Giardina. From Einaudi’s emotive piano melodies to Zimmer’s epic Pirates of the Caribbean themes, every composition is brought to life through dynamic dance, revealing the music’s inner tension, fragility and power. This is not a concert in the traditional sense – it’s a living dialogue between sound and movement, stillness and motion, capturing the imagination of all who attend.

Key Details

Date & Time: Thursday 23 April 2026, 19:00 (doors open 18:30)

Venue: O’Reilly Theatre, Belvedere College, Dublin 1 (historic theatre at Great Denmark Street)

Duration: ~75 minutes (no interval)

Age Guidance: 6+

Organiser: Red Events & Distribution Ltd

Book your tickets – Take Your Seats

What’s the event about?

Presented by Eason, this one-night-only event gives Dublin audiences an exclusive chance to join comedian and author Kyla Cobbler in conversation about her hilarious and heartfelt memoir Happy, Thank You. More, Please. Cobbler’s path to self-love hasn’t always run smoothly – expect candid tales of questionable dating decisions, using booze to soothe her infamous Irish mortification, and even a misadventure where she was wrongly arrested for drug smuggling. Through all the laughter and chaos, Kyla ultimately discovers she holds the power to create her own happiness. And she does it all with a fearless wit that turns even mortifying missteps into empowering lessons.

What to expect

It’s set to be an upbeat and brutally honest evening filled with wit and warmth. Kyla’s infectious humour and no-holds-barred storytelling will have you laughing out loud and nodding along in recognition of life’s awkward moments. This intimate chat will leave you feeling uplifted and joyful. And for anyone who’s ever been mortified by life’s mishaps, Kyla’s stories are a heartening reminder that we’re not alone – and that it’s okay to laugh at ourselves. Plus, the experience doesn’t stop at the theatre: each ticket comes with a signed copy of Kyla’s book, so you can continue the laughter and insight at home.

Key Details

When

Friday 4 September 2026 – 19:00 (Doors open 18:15)

Where

O’Reilly Theatre, Dublin 1

Tickets

€25.00 (includes a signed copy of the memoir)

Presented by

Eason

Book your tickets – Take Your Seats

What’s the event about?

Former Asian cinema icon Rin Asari has been living a low-profile life in Dublin for years. Once poised for global fame, Rin vanished from the spotlight just as her first English-language film was set to launch. Now, in 2014, a chance encounter with an Irish expat named Tara rekindles Rin’s connection to her past. When a new film offer comes calling, Rin must confront the history and choices she left behind in order to reclaim the voice she once shared with the world. This heartfelt narrative explores identity, sacrifice, and the pull of stardom as Rin weighs a comeback against the life she’s built in quiet anonymity.

What to expect

The Madonna of Asia is a visually striking multilingual drama created by Linbury Prizewinner Choy-Ping Ní Chléirigh-Ng (吳彩萍). Drawing inspiration from vibrant Hong Kong cinema aesthetics, the production fuses dynamic projected imagery with live theatrical performance to immerse the audience in Rin’s journey. Expect a rich multilingual experience – the play is performed in English, Cantonese, and Japanese, with clear English subtitles ensuring every audience member can follow the action. Esteemed performers Mai Ishikawa and Clare Barrett lead the cast, bringing depth and authenticity to the cultural and emotional nuances of the story. Presented by The New Theatre in association with LemonSoap Productions, this show offers a culturally unique perspective and a truly international collaboration on the Irish stage.

Key Details

Dates & Times: 28 April – 2 May 2026, nightly at 19:30 (7:30pm)

Venue: The New Theatre, 43 Essex Street East, Temple Bar, Dublin 2

Duration: 1 hour (no interval)

Languages: Performed in English, Cantonese & Japanese (English surtitles provided)

Creators: Written & directed by Choy-Ping Ní Chléirigh-Ng (Linbury Prize winner)

Cast: Mai Ishikawa, Clare Barrett

Produced by: The New Theatre (Dublin) in association with LemonSoap Productions

Book your tickets – Take Your Seats

What’s the event about?

After ten years together, Rhys suddenly walks out on Bishop. Seven weeks of silence later, Rhys returns for a tense midnight visit, proposing a radical experiment: for one night, they will tell each other the absolute truth, no matter what. Fuelled by drinks and past grievances, this daring pact forces everything into the open. It’s either a brave new start for the couple or a final, clean break — no regrets either way.

Hidden resentments and heartfelt longings soon surge to the surface. But deeper secrets begin to emerge, secrets that threaten their very existence as a couple. How far can two people descend into the unexplored realms of the heart to save their relationship? And, ultimately, can they survive the truth?

What to expect

The Argument of Us is a raw, emotionally charged new drama presented by The New Theatre. Audiences can expect an intimate, late-night showdown packed with honest confrontations and gut-wrenching revelations.
