The story of LG in the mobile phone space is not really as exciting as Apple but it’s nevertheless a story worth our attention. LG has been one mobile phone manufacturer which experimented slowly and steadily to realize the needs of consumers by launching products across the spectrum. They cater to both the premium mobile phone user as well as the entry level user with various devices. This strategy was made to perfection by Nokia and it seems that LG has also learnt a thing or two in this department from their biggest competitor.

In a recent interview to a Korean Yohan News Agency, the LG’s head of Mobile Ahn Seung-kwon has revealed the future course of action of the company. Some of the important details that revealed in the interview are:

LG is planning to launch a “Black Label” phone that will compete with smart phones like Apple iPhone. Many companies have tried to do that and we’d be all ears and eyes to see how LG fairs in this.

LG also aims to reach the second spot in the crowded mobile space. The second spot is currently held by Sony Ericsson. LG hopes to beat Sony Ericsson by the year 2012.

LG will also launch the third version of their luxury phone Prada.

LG will launch ultra premium range of handsets which will be in the league of Nokia’s Vertu. So they will basically be creating some handsets with all gold and rubies and diamonds which the rich and famous can boast of.

LG has given us some reasons to be little excited for the next few months.

Google Mobile Blog has reported that Google Search has now been optimized in 38 languages for the feature mobile devices. Google Search has done the same exercise with smartphones like Apple iPhone and the devices powered by Google’s own Android Operating System.

This development converges the mobile web search with its desktop counterpart. The web search on mobile devices was little less complete till now.

It was incomplete in the sense that results on the mobile devices were being compromised and the users could not see the News, Images, Blog, Video and Product Search results whenever they were available.

The other developments made by Google Mobile are the further optimization of specific results for mobile. For eg. when you search for local restaurants in London, it’d provide easy-to-select phone number links. The new format of Google Mobile Search is available on all device models in over 60 countries and 38 languages. Since it’s not an application so there won’t be any need to update any software or anything.

If there’s one mobile company that urgently needs some serious PR help along with better products then it’s Motorola. It’s been ages since we talked about any Motorola phone and that’s pretty obvious because they haven’t made any phone lately that made us “wow.” As if their inability to launch neat and better products wasn’t enough they have now resorted to stupid marketing gimmicks to sell their phones.

Motorola has announced to bring a newer version of their Aura mobile phone. The new version will be called Motorola Aura Celestial Edition. Motorola is celebrating the the 40th anniversary of first moon landing by Neil Armstrong and his crew.

This bears special relevance to Motorola because the wireless transmitters made by the company were used for communication by the astronauts on Moon.

Motorola Aura Celestial Edition will have special clips and images captured during the historic feat. There will also be a laser made inscription and 9 post stamps on the handset to commemorate the mission.

The phone will be launched this month and it is expected to be priced a little more than the Aura. Aura was priced at $1,967. You can actually buy a car with that much money in India. Nice try Motorola but we are over it.

The India mobile phone manufacturer Spice has unveiled yet another dual mode mobile phone. It is called Spice D-1111 and it is powered by Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 6.0. Spice has been trying hard to compete against international mobile phone manufacturers in India and they haven’t been able to make any serious mark as of yet. It’s nice to hear that they haven’t stopped trying.

Spice D-1111 might be a Windows Mobile device buts its specifications does leave you disappointed. It has a 2-megapixel camera, Bluetooth and an expandable memory support upto 2 GB. You can certainly find all these specs in the middle range handset launched this year or so. Spice D-1111 only manages to garner your attention when it comes to pre-installed applications. There are loads of Windows Mobile compatible mobile applications which some of the techie folks might find interesting.

Some of the apps which have been included in the phone are Nimbuzz, Mitr, Opera and Reuters. The phone also comes with a email2SMS applications which lets you receive your emails in the form of sms. One only wonders why wouldn’t someone be using an email client especially if it’s a Windows Mobile device. The phone does look decent but it misses out on many levels, the most notable being specs. The price of Rs.18,499 is just not reasonable.

It seems that Spice D-1111 has been made by keeping a dumb mobile phone user in mind but as it turns out that the company itself has become one. The phone lacks any reason for your attention.

There is no dearth of IM clients for Symbian powered Nokia handsets. I for one swear by the Nimbuzz all in one IM client. Nokia Beta Labs has now introduced their own IM client which is only available for Nokia E75 for the time being. It is open to useless debate why is the world they launched it only for Nokia E75 but the company claims that support will be extended to other Nokia mobile phones as well.

If you try the application you’d know that it’s only a half baked product as you can only talk to your friends on the Yahoo! Messenger and Ovi communities. I don’t have friends or use either of them which means this applications is pretty useless for me.

Some of the better features of the Nokia IM application is that it provides quick navigation to different conversations and you can also save your conversations. You might be also interested to know that Nokia might also charge for this application sometime in future. This is actually reason enough for me to stay away from this application. Nokia E75 users however will get lifetime subscription to the Nokia Messaging service.

If you happen to be one of those lucky people who own a Nokia tablet phone then you must try out an amazing Media Center application called Canola. It is as the name suggests your one stop door for all your media needs on the Nokia tablet phones. Just in case if you have any confusion about Nokia Tablets then I must tell you that this application is only compatible with Nokia 770, Nokia N800 and Nokia N810.

The user interface of Canola is quite impressive and pretty simple. The breaking point for most Media Center applications is the lack of support for enough video and audio file formats. Canola just manages to escape from that. It has inbuilt support for mp3, wma audio file and video support for avi, wmv, asf, 3gp and mp4 file types. Canola supports addons which mean the support for other file types can be made possible using them. It has its weaknesses but it’s still a cause for our delight that something beautiful is being made for mobiles. For some reason the development on for the mobile devices is just not that upto the pace.

The Mozilla Labs project Weave is surely getting some heat. Mozilla has announced that a new version of Weave is now available. The latest version is Weave 0.4.0. We heard about the recent developments of Fennec and the launch of Mozilla Firefox 3.5 and one thing that brings a relation between the two is a Mozilla addon Weave. In the words of Mozilla “Weave Sync is a prototype that encrypts and securely synchronizes the Firefox experience across multiple browsers, so that your desktop, laptop and mobile phone can all work together.”

The development of Weave has been little on the slower side but the latest development is indeed promising. With Weave you can sync all the settings and preferences between your Firefox web browser on different machines. The most exciting part about the latest version is that it will now support Feenec web browser as well. The will now work with all the new devices such as Windows Mobile and Maemo devices.

The latest version of Weave will also sync automatic login, including use of OpenID logins. Further it is said to be more stable than the previous versions. Weave is indeed a nice bit of software which might turn out to be very crucial in increasing the popularity of the Fennec.
