• This tip is great : Words Matter- Under the categories label, Change the word “categories” to” topics” and people will click on it more.
• Tomothy uses WordPress www.WordPress.org. It’s the best platform that I know of. That’s why I offer free wordpress installations.
• The top righthand side of the blog is your most valuable real estate for getting attention
• Timothy removed the Twitter Status from the tophand right side of his blog to keep first time users from leaving his blog quickly. He moved his twitter info down the page.
• Remove the date from older posts because visitors want fresh content
• Learn to test longer posts. Timothy puts the total read time on longer posts in bold to prerequisite longer posts
• 250 words in general is a good average for the length of posts

• CrazyEgg www.CrazyEgg.com– I didn’t know about this website. You can use it to create tests to figure out what people are doing on your website; you can also create heat maps and  check out click patterns on your blog.
• Google Analytics www.google.com/analytics- is the very best web analytics solution that I know of. It gives you great insights into your website traffic and marketing effectiveness

• Use twitter for polling, research and tracking
• Use Evernote.com www.EverNote.com for research. I used it to take notes for this post.

In December of 2007 I made a radical decision that changed my life financially.

You see, I have been a missionary to Mexico for over 20 years now. Missionaries are supposed to be poor.

That’s what I believed. But then I got tired of not having the finances to be able to accomplish the goals and/or the visions that I had for my life and ministry.

I read the Book “Think and Grow Rich” By Napoleon Hill.

As I read the book I was asked the question, “What Would I do if I had a Million Dollars?” That was easy for me.  (How would you spend a million dollars?) I would use the money to accomplish the ministry goals that I had set for my life. Here’s one of my posts from my missions websites that I wrote-  What would you do if you had a million dollars?

I decided that 2008 would be the year that marked a financial change in my life. My internet marketing journey also began In 2008. Since that time I HAVE made money on the internet. You can read a little bit about what I’m making in this article- “How Much Money Can I Expect to Make With an Internet Business”

The book, Think and Grow Rich was a pivot-able part in my journey from being a poor missionary to having the money money to being able to accomplish the goals and purpose for my life that I desire.

• Mr. Carnegie gives you a fair idea of what the reading of this book may bring to you,.. BUR… You must KNOW WHAT IT IS THAT YOU WANT.

I just updated my complete ping list for wordpress blogs.

Although I have researched ping lists quite a bit in the last few days, It seems as if it is quite a job to check all of the services.I recommend that you do not depend on me or any other person as an authority on the subject.

Many people make big claims as to being an expert on a subject.  My definition of a self proclaimed expert is EX + SPIRT, In other words, a has been who’s s just blowing off a lot of steam.

Testing the Ping Services

Testing is the most important part of a good ping list. It also proves to be very time consuming. Manually placing each link in your web browser will give you varied results. that are not always accurate. The Wordpress MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer plugin gives a report on which services are working. In addition to it I used Website pulse.com to check the links.

I’ve also written an article called Free Tools To Test Links and Website Availability. It includes 3 tools for finding out if you are all alone in experiencing a problem with a link or if it is happening all across the web.

What is a ping list?

Ping  is referred as Packet Internet Grouper  (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ping)

Wilkapedia provides this definition:  “In blogging, ping is an XML-RPC-based push mechanism by which a weblog notifies a server that its content has been updated” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ping_(blogging)

In  other words, A ping list is simply a list of web addresses or URL’s  that ping different available ping services.

What is a ping service?

Simply put, ping services allow you to automatically notify blog directories and search engines and blog directories  that your website/ blog has been updated.

There are a lot of ping services on the web.That is the reason I’m providing them for you toady. I spent hours researching and compiling this list from different available sources.

Why do I need an updated ping list?

Wordpress comes with a default list. It’s good, but it could be better.  In this case, bigger is better. If you have a bigger ping list you have a bigger chance of receiving more traffic because you are notifiying more sources of your new article or blog post. Hey, I’ll take all the SEO benefits I can get.

Where can I find my ping list on my wordpress blog?

Update Ping Services

If you are a Wordpress user take the following steps:

1. Log on to your Wordpress Administration Control panel
2. Open up the “Settings” dropdown list on the dashboard
3. Select “Writing”
4. Scroll down to “Update Services” (You should see “http://rpc.pingomatic.com/” already filled in in the box)

This part is easy because I’m providing you with the list. All you have to do is copy and paste the list below in the “Update Services” box and save your changes.

Do I Absolutely need such a long ping list?

My answer is… you decide.

I checked with some larger blogs and gleamed from their experience. Some are using a a larger ping list. In fact, I originally compiled this list using information that they had provided. However, after more research I found that bigger is not always better since many of the services on large ping lists didn’t work or were very slow. Some bloggers are actually using a smaller list.

Here are the answers to a few more questions on ping lists:

Why Do I need a ping list at all?

Obviously, you must get the word out that you have new information on your blog. You have to notify everyone you can as soon as you can.  The idea that the bigger your ping list, the faster news will travel is true. A ping list is almost as good as word of mouth.
What is the end benefit someone I get s from adding your ping list into my blog instead of the pingomatic one?

Like  said, You don’t have to use my ping list. There is nothing wrong with using pingomatic or pingoat. But with your own custom list like the one I’m providing you have complete control over who you pin.g. If you notice that a ping service is not responding (through the plugins I reccomend) simply delete them or wait for them to update their service.

If a multiple ping service goes down and you are using that service, then the result is that your article doesn’t get broadcasted to the world.

Can I get better search engine rankings using my custom list?

Yes, If you have the right list that notifies a lot of ping services and If you use the plugins I reccomend so as not to ping a service more than once.

Can I get more traffic, & why is this the case?

If you have a complete ping list that pings the maximun number of services you will naturally get more traffic. The main thing I’m telling you is that you shouldn’t settle for the standard ping list  that comes with the installation of your wordpress blog. At the very least, use a ping service and at the very best get your own custom ping list like the one I am offering on this website.

OK, Are there any negatives to having a custom list?

The negative to having a custom ping list would be to invclude pings to services that don’t actually work. In my experiments with pings to some services I found that the server actually timed out before it responded.  Some names on pings lists dont do anything, they simply don’t exist. Slow response times are also a negative.

I have already covered the danger of pinging a service more than once, that is frowned upon by search engines. The good thing is that when using the proper plugins(below) you can safeguard your blog from making duplicate pings.

Just a few comments from the codex page-

“WordPress makes this easy for you by listing Ping-O-Matic’s server (rpc.pingomatic.com) by default. All you need to do is sit back and let it work for you”

rpc.pingomatic.com is the basic one EVERYONE should have in the  list and it automatically pings all the sites.  As I said, the only weakness of this setup is if pingomatic is down for some reason. Pingoat also pings multiple services.

Are there any tools or plugins that can help me with my ping list?

Yes there are. I am using the MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer plugin In addition to helping to make sure that you don’t ping the same service twice, it also aids you with future post pings, logging, and avoid sending any ping notification when editing previously.

The guys at Maxblogpress also provide a whole host of additional plugins and to register the Ping optimizer they’ll add you to their mailing list. Simply opt-out if you don’t want to receive their promotions.

The Smart Update Pinger also requires registration. This is recommended by most everyone . It also provides correct extended ping request handling.

Yesterday I  made a series of pings to my social networks using ping.fm. There are so many ways to use Ping.fm to make posts to your favorite social sites which  include twitter, facebook, friendfeed and a lot more.

I’ve written about Ping.fm before. This hack on How to Set up 2 twitter accounts using Ping.fm has proven to be very popular.

I’m am currently using the Ping This bookmarklet. I simply drug the icon to my browser . It’s still the simplest way that I know to make  posts via ping.fm
