- PUL, otherwise known as polyurethane laminated fabric, is a lot more technical than just a plastic backing on fabric. 
-The original application is the medical field, and it is still used for this purpose. 
-Like cloth diapers, it is used to replace disposable products with reusable. 
-It provides the waterproof barrier needed in the medical field that can survive multiple institutional washings.  
- The polyurethane laminate can be customized by the manufacturer and comes in different thicknesses.  For cloth diapers, 1 mil or 2 mil is generally preferred. 

-This allows for a good stretch, complete waterproofing, and is still comfortable enough to wear next to the skin. 

What testing have you done to ensure it’s safety?

A mother and daughter passed by in a supermarket recently and the mother took one look at our diapers, saw the price and said to her pregnant daughter “Don’t look, just keep walking.”  I asked why she had said this and she said “Look at the price of those compared to disposables.”  I of course explained the fact that this would be a one time purchase compared to repeatedly buying disposables, but sadly my attempt at an explanation fell on deaf ears.

So some people already assume that for one reason or another cloth diapers are more hassle than disposables.  Let me address each reason why people might think they are and explain why I think they aren’t and you can decide for yourself.

The main reason is washing, yes you do have to wash cloth diapers, that’s how you use them again.  At Real Nappies we design our best selling pack – The Birth to Potty Pack so that you only have to was your diapers once every third day – we give you enough diapers to last that long.  It only takes a few minutes to put on a wash, so not too much hassle!

Perhaps people don’t like the thought of handling a soiled diaper, well if you use one of our diaper liners the solids can be flushed straight down the toilet, so you handle the edges of the liner, not the poo!

Some people, like the lady I mentioned earlier might even think cloth diapers are more expensive than disposables, perhaps initially they are but they need to do the sums!

Well, hopefully I’ve put to rest the main couple of reasons why people wouldn’t use cloth diapers, now if I may, let me explain a few more benefits of cloth diapering.

When you change your child’s diaper the solids need to go somewhere.  Why not flush them down the toilet to get rid of them?  A dirty disposable would be put in your dustbin.  Now I know from experience (before I became educated) that after a few days of putting dirty diapers in your trash the smell is absolutely nauseating, not to mention what’s it’s like after a whole week.

As oil continues to gush from the exploded Deepwater Horizon oil rig, a Texas Tech expert in nonwoven cotton technology believes that cotton may do a better job to absorb the oil spill than the booms made of synthetic material.

“Already, several million feet of the oil-containment booms have been used to capture the oil spilling into the Gulf,” said Seshadri Ramkumar, associate professor of Nonwoven materials at The Institute of Environmental and Human Health (TIEHH). “They are made of synthetic materials, don’t biodegrade and absorb only a third of what raw cotton can do. The properties of raw cotton allow it to soak up 40 times its weight. With chemical modifications, it can soak up to as much as 70 times its weight. And it won’t just stay in a landfill forever.”

Well what more can we say GO COTTON!!  Absorbent enough for your baby’s diaper and the Gulf Oil Spill!  LOL!

Why risk it? 

Of course P&G are strongly defending themselves and their products, but groundswell points to a potential problem.  So why even entertain the notion and take the risk?

‘On the Facebook group, consisting of 728 members, she discovered many, many moms complaining of the same burn like rash.  All of the rashes began after using the new  Cruisers with Dry Max.
