It is my mission to be authentic and transparent in all of my business activities, and sometimes that means shining a light on some of the deceptive practices that are prevalent within the real estate industry. Admittedly, this approach is not always met with enthusiasm. I don't often enter a room to the sound of deafening applause, streamers and confetti whirling through the atmosphere, and choruses of "For He's A Jolly Good Fellow..." In fact, as you'll soon discover, it has sometimes come at the cost of losing out on possible income because I have been unwilling to lie about the value of a home for my own gain. I often say to people that I am still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. They laugh, I laugh, we laugh together. They tell me I'm funny. I deflect the praise and then graciously accept it in my slyly humble way. But in reality, I am DEAD serious. I truly believe that there should be a healthy bit of Peter Pan in all of us. And no, I don't mean the brand of peanut butter. I'm allergic to peanut butter so having a little bit of that "Peter Pan" in me would have my wife racing for my EpiPen®. I'm talking about the boy who could fly and refused to grow up. I don't mean we should be immature, but we should be willing to look up at the moon and think that we could one day walk on the face of it.

We often romanticize what it means to "Find Your Purpose" as though it were something you can only hope to achieve in the unseen future. Unfortunately having this perspective often paralyzes us and leads us into hopelessness. It is better that we begin living with purpose in the everyday rather than daydream about some mystical "purpose" we've yet to grasp. Live deliberately, live intentionally. It is when we identify the purpose of the mundane that we are better equipped when we finally realize our dream. The long road to purpose and meaning can only be trod with purposeful steps.

Peyton Manning's career has been the focus of much media attention of late. Specifically whether or not he will decide to hang up his cleats now that he has won his second Super Bowl. In thinking about the fortunate position Manning finds himself, I am reminded that we also should be striving to "go out on top." Life is not just about arriving safely at death. We should not be counting down the years 'til we can live the good life in Florida. We should be using each day to position ourselves to the most good in the twilight of our life. I have been challenged to rethink the idea of "retirement" and look at how I invest now so that my final years on this earth are some of my most effective in changing the world.

In this quick little episode (recorded on my birthday), I take a look at this profound quote and meditate on how another year passed means another chance to put the life lessons learned into practice. At this time last year, I was about to jump into the unknown with both feet. And I am so glad that I did. This last year brought me face to face with some of the biggest challenges of my life, but it also brought out both flaws in my character that needed to be addressed, and courage that I didn't know I possessed. Ask yourself today, why was I born? If you don't know the answer to that question, then stop chasing every other vain pursuit in life (money, relationships, fame, etc.) and start the hunt of your life. The hunt for purpose.

So I decided to let you in on a little secret. Something I shouldn’t tell you as someone who makes a living helping people buy/sell houses.

MOVING IS THE WORST!

My family and I just moved a few weeks ago. So what? Big Deal. Everybody moves. New Beginnings. New Seasons. Blah blah blah old cliche after old cliche.

But the truth is, Moving sucks.

Especially when your move is not YOUR move.

What do I mean by that? I mean, when it is ultimately brought on by circumstances beyond your control. Moving has always been hard but typically the emotional and psychological pain is dulled by the excitement of moving on to bigger and better things.

This move has had a profound effect on me. It has caused me to really take a hard look at my life and career...
