The new late model touring series coming to Florida’s paved race tracks in 2010 has already begun to create a buzz around the state. In 1978, a young American driver traveled to Lemans, France, and pulled a huge upset, winning the Karting World Championship race. On that day he bested, among others, the future Formula One star Ayrton Senna. And, he is still the only American to have won the Karting World Championship. That driver was Lake Speed! Lake won six International Karting Federation championships in his early karting days. In 1980 after considering racing in other series such as Formula One, CART, and IMSA, and getting advice from current Lowe's Motor Speedway promoter, Humpy Wheeler, Speed chose to go NASCAR racing. According to Speed, "It was the highest mountain to climb."

In 225 career Winston Cup starts, he finished in the top ten 60 times, or approx. 1 in every 4 starts, and accumulated 19 top five finishes. Joe has won 13 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Races and was also the 1980 USAC Stock Car Champion .His brother won the 1952 Indianapolis 500, and still is the youngest winner on record at 22 years, 80 days. As a young adult, he drove for "Bug" Go-Karts, winning karting events throughout the Southwest.

Sammy Swindell, Bartlett, Tennessee is a three time World of Outlaws champion, winning the title in 1981, 1982, and 1997, with hundreds of A-main victories to his credit. He also competed in the CART series in 1985 and 1986 and failed to qualify for the 1987 Indianapolis 500 in a March-Pontiac.

Swindell also competed in a full season of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in 1995, finishing 12th in points with 1 pole and 5 top-tens in the series' inaugural season. He also counts 10 Busch Series and 2 Winston Cup starts among his NASCAR accomplishments. Swindell still competes in the World of Outlaws. He competed in the rival National Sprint Tour for the 2006 season, winning three events. Swindell racing in the World of Outlaws In his career he has had over 267 WoO feature wins. 2007 was be his 35th consecutive year as a race car driver, racing beside his 18 year old son Kevin. He's a five-time winner of the prestigious Chili Bowl Midget Nationals, the only driver to win it more than two times.

East Bay Raceway Park co-owner Todd Hutto appeared on Real Racin' USA's INSIDE FLORIDA RACING show on Monday night to announce the new dirt racing organization and the sprint car series they have created. Four dirt tracks including East Bay, Ocala, Volusia and North Florida have been holding regular meetings throughout 2008 moving in the direction of creating meaningful cooperation between the tracks. The Dirt4Dirt.com Promoters Association grew out of these meetings with the group's first major creation being the Top Gun Sprint Car Series The series will hold its first race on March 7, 2009 at North Florida Speedway under the direction Don Rehm, longtime sprint car racing organizer.
