IS GOD ASLEEP? HE MUST BE!

Have you ever gone through some tough time or are you, at present, going through something and you wonder "Does God really exist?" or like I asked some years ago via text to an student of mine, Akerele Oluwafemi Esther, "does God really answer prayer?" Lets share the story below together.

Why am I the looser?

Why always me?

One day, a man in his 30s got fed up and decided to quit..."I quit my job, my relationship, my spirituality. In fact, I want to quit my life!", he said. Then he went into the woods to have one last talk with God.

Man: God! Can you give me just one good reason why I should not quit?

God: Look around you. Do you see the fern and the bamboo?

Man: Yes.

God: I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds and took very good care of them. I gave them light and water.

The fern quickly grew from the earth. Its brilliant green covered the floor but nothing came from the bamboo seed. However, I did not quit on the bamboo seed.

In the 2nd year, the fern grew more vibrant and plentiful and again nothing came from the bamboo seed. Guess what, I still did not quit on it. Before I knew it, the third year came and as usual, the fern grew more and more vibrant while nothing came from the bamboo tree. Yet, I did not quit on it. This also happened in the 4th year and I still did not quit!

Surprisingly, in the 5th year, a tiny sprout emerged from the earth. Compared to the fern, it was seemingly small and insignificant. But 6 months later, the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall.

Do you know what? It has spend 5 years growing roots but 6 months to shoot to the sky! Those roots made it strong and gave it whatever it needed not only to SURVIVE but also to be SIGNIFICANT among its peers. I would not give any of my creation a challenge it could not handle because I LOVE THEM ALL TOO WELL!

God loves us too much

My child, do you know that all these time you have been struggling, you were actually growing roots. As I never quit on the bamboo, I WILL NEVER QUIT ON YOU no matter what!

God says He will never give up on you no matter what.

So, do not compare yourself to others. Remember, the bamboo has a different purpose than the fern. Yet both make the forest beautiful. Your time will come and you will rise high!

Man: How high will I rise my Creator?

God: How high did the bamboo tree rise?

Man: As high as it could, perhaps?

Rise as high as you can

God: Yes, give Me the glory by rising as high as you can!

Dear invaluable readers and friends,
never give up on yourself because you are close to God's heart. Never regret a day in your life no matter what you are going through. As those that you look up to in the success ladder, they have been through the worse situation. Would you see them as model today if they had given up? Good days give you happiness while the bad days give you experiences. Both are very essential to life. A happy and meaningful life requires our daily input and creativity. It does not happen by chance but by our choices and actions. Each day, we are given new opportunities to choose and act. In doing so, we create our own unique journey.

Finally, if your creator will never give up on you why should you, His creation, give up on yourself? Think about all these for a moment.

PROCRASTINATION – A THIEF OF TIME, PEACE & SANITY.

Scattered all over your table, and staring at you in the face with a life - threatening intimidation are clutters of paper all begging for attention. Intermittently, as if set to ensure that your adrenalin level is continuously on the rise, the intercom on your table buzzes…"O God! It is the boss again!” Where do we start from? You are not done with the two previous assignments, yet you are expected to have submitted reports on them; and on the new one that was just thundered through the intercom like yesterday. This demon called DEADLINE!

Now, I do not doubt the fact that there are too many task-masters called ‘bosses’ whose names alone make sub-ordinates miss a breath but I have discovered that an appreciable proportion of the stress we go through at workplace in our bid to meet deadlines can be reduced if only we can desist from patronizing the corporate indiscipline called PROCRASTINATION.

THE TRAP OF SPACE

A cruel trick that time plays on the mind is like what visual artists called perspective.

Consider the word above. To the eyes, it appears to go deep inwardly but in reality it occupies a small space on the paper, actually shorter than it appears to the eyes. When on Monday we are instructed to work on a task and turn the report in latest on Wednesday, the average mind (and many of us are chronically average in our reasoning) happily settles for the latest finishing time because it appears we have been given an eternity to complete the task. Securely cocooned in this garb of false generosity, we push tasks to ‘sometime later’. We ‘take time off’ to chat with colleagues about what happened in 1945, what Lampard and Drogba should have done for Chelsea to clinch the winning goal (all these do not include the official lunch time which is extremely sacrosanct).

AND THE PANTS GET WET

Then, as if someone did a magic with time, the two days are here and the job is still far from being completed! Grinnngggg…”This man will not kill me”, only for you to look at the incoming call and discover it is actually a junior colleague who wants to give you a feedback on an assignment you gave to him.

And then, as a result of a riotous psychological co-ordination, ‘God’ begins to appear as ‘Dog’, ‘2.00’ becomes ‘200’ in your vision and the computer you have been operating since ‘only God knows when’ suddenly becomes too slow, forcing you to hit the mouse on the table as if the poor non - living thing has offended you unpardonably.

The final product is as erroneous as the process that produced it.

The Guys' Rule

At last a guy has taken the time to write this all down. Finally, the guys' side of the story. We always hear the rules from the female side. Now here are the rules from our side. These are our rules! Please note ... they are indeed our rules! Please also note ... they are all numbered "1" ON PURPOSE!

1. Learn to work the toilet seat. You're a big girl. If it's up, put it down. We need it up, you need it down. You don't hear us complaining about you leaving it down. Do you?

1. Sunday sport. It’s like the Hannah Montana. Let it be.

1. Shopping is not a sport and NO, we are never going to think of it that way.

1. Crying is blackmail.

1. Ask for what you want. Let us be clear on this one: Subtle hints do not work! Strong hints do not work! Obvious hints do not work! Just say it!

1. YES or NO is a perfectly acceptable answer to almost any question.

1. Come to us with a problem only if you want help solving it. That’s what we do. Your girlfriends are for sympathy.

1. A headache that lasts 17 hours is a problem. See a doctor.

1. 1. Anything we said 6 months ago is inadmissible in an argument. In fact, all comments become null and void after 7 days.

1. If you won’t dress like the Victoria’s Secret girls, don’t expect us to act like soap opera guys.

1. If you think you are fat, you probably are. Don’t ask us.

1. If something we said can be interpreted two ways and one of the ways makes you sad or angry, we meant the other one.

1. You can either ask us to do something or tell us how you want it done. Not both. If you already know best how to do it, just do it yourself.

1. Whenever possible, please say whatever you have to say during commercials not during the match or half time commentaries.

1. Christopher Columbus did not need directions and neither do we if you know what we mean. Sure you do.

1. If it itches, it will be scratched. We do that.

1. If we ask what is wrong and you say nothing, we will act like nothing’s wrong. Although we know you are lying but it is just not worth the hassle.

1. If you ask a question you don’t want an answer to, expect an answer you don’t want to hear.

1. When we have to go somewhere, absolutely anything you wear is fine… really sweetheart.

1. Don’t ask us what we’re thinking about unless you are prepared to discuss such topics as top goal scorers, latest action movies, etc.

1. You have enough clothes.

1. You have too many shoes.

Normality: Who Defines It?

If you are a right-hander you sometimes see a left-hander as special personal and same goes with his or her own though. Some years ago, people will stare at you everywhere you go driving a right-handed car in this part of the world and same goes when you drive our type of car where they use the right-handed car. You might even be arrested in some places.

When you stand in front of a mirror and raise your right hand, the guy/lady on the other end does the same but changes to his left. If given the chance one day, you'll love to tell him/her to start using his/her right hand. Why? Because you think your own choice of hand is the normal and his/hers is the abnormal. My question is "are you sure you are on the right track?" I'm sure the guy behind the mirror also wants to tell you the same but what we don't is the answer to the question: who is right and who is wrong? Maybe he/she also reports to his/her friend about you, just like you do. Coincidentally he/she comes to check if you've changed your choice of hand whenever you try to look at yourself in the mirror but disappointingly met you again mimicking him/her as usual. Let's see another scenario.

Anyone who puts on tatter or walks naked is said to be mad, insane or psychologically imbalance. But have you bothered checking the word "madman" or "madwoman" in the lexicon? I have and guess what I found "an offensive term for a man or woman with a psychiatric disorder." I'm still on the first three words of this meaning – an offensive term. So it’s not really allowed just like the word tramp or whore. That is not my point anyway, so let's drop it. My concern is he/she also refers to us, the so – called normal beings, as mad people. So I ask myself: “who is really mad?" If you've my article Dream or Reality: Which Realm Are You? (click here), you might agree with me that there are two sides to a coin. He/she (the madman/woman) might even be right. Perhaps it depends on the perspective. You call that guy a madman because he is on a tatter and he calls you a madman for putting on what you call cloth. We are justified because that is what we all grew up to know not because it is right. He is also justified because at least Adam and Eve were once like that before the apple revolution. Remember, God was even angry that the apple that opened the eyes to the nakedness was eaten. The fact that the apple was not meant to be eaten is enough for the madman to present in this argument.

Let’s take a look at their resistance to sickness. We avoid anything close to dirt, in the name of hygiene. Unlike us, he/she goes to where refuse are dump, picks up any edible like bread and eats. He/she sees the water you cannot even dip your leg into, uses a dirty cup to fetch some and drink. Yet some of them live longer than us. Indeed, they are the stronger specie. We have of stories of poisoned mad men and women who survived. The Yoruba will say ori won o gbabode.

Another scenario. At the beginning or end of any gathering, whenever a Christian prays, most Muslims keep quiet because they believe Islam is the true religion and the Christians will go to hell if they are not "saved" in time. When a Muslim also prays, most Christians in that gathering don't say "amen" because of the same belief. Imagine! Don't even press the issue of Rev. Lateef or Alhaji Peter because the issue of conversion from Christianity to Islam or vice versa is not new. Now suppose the Muslims are right, does that mean all the Christians are going to hell and if the Christians are right, does that mean all the Muslims are going to hell? This clash of titans is one of the discouraging factors that those in other religions, who might be interested in any of these two religions, do consider to turn us down. When are we going to do something about this? You believe in your religion not because you think you are right but because you are born in it.

In summary, my invaluable readers, what we think may not be what it is? Those that we think are wrong might be the ones with the right thought. Just a little advice.

Our Topmost Fear....DANGER!!!

When an average human being hears the word danger or sees the sign in a region, he thinks before he acts. I got into a discussion with a highly respected brother , Impact as we call him, and he gave me the scenario below.

There is this busy road around NUD, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria, which happens to be a bridge over a tunnel. Suddenly, the road became less busy. Impact then said to himself "this road use to be busy. But why not busy anymore?" His research shows that the bridge got damaged and became dangerous because of what might happen at anytime someone is using it. Most people then have this in mind. Which implies no matter how adamant we are, the word danger or dangerous as the case may be, does change our mind.

Lets take a look at another scenario. I read an article one day about AIDS, one of the deadliest epidemics in history of mankind which was first identified in 1981 in New York and California and gradually got to the point that we have it today. How many people do think buy condoms those days, before 1981 I mean? Today with just 20 naira, you can always get a pack. No doubt, male condoms have been used for thousands of years, dating back to ancient Egypt when men wore colourful sheaths to cover their private organs. They were first used to prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and pregnancy in the 1600s when King Charles II of England used condom made of sheep intestines. Can imagine how people have been more careful with unprotected sex these days? I mean, the rate has dropped when compared to what it was before because of two major reasons viz. unwanted pregnancies or STDs likes AIDS and others. Don’t you think the rape community has lost some members too? All these happen because of the red flag resenting danger.

Looking around us, we can always see some other illustrations. Kids don’t do some things because of the fear of being grounded. Stubborn kids do listen to teachers sometimes when they reach their elastic limits. Why? Perhaps because of failures, punishment, etc.

Other animals also know what danger means. How they do, I can’t tell. Rats know when to move about in your apartment because of the fear of being killed. Same goes with cockroaches and even mosquitoes. Goats and sheep, in Africa basically, watch their backs before eating what they aren't supposed to eat. I could remember the I–caught–you game we used to play with them in the village and some places in the city. We usually run after them with sticks or other things anytime they eat whatever we are trying to dry in the sun. We animals – complex or otherwise– know the six – letter word danger whenever we see it.

The point is maybe the founding fathers of our respective religions used the notion hell to implant the danger chip during the circuit formation of our brain. Just maybe. But at least we fear to be in hell and that make the world better than what it would have been if there was no such.

Imagine what our political leaders do because of the awareness of hell. Imagine their acts of trying to compensate God with their huge and unacceptable tithe and ladaless zakat given to the churches and mosques respectively. Just because they don’t want to go “home,” hell I mean.

Don’t get me wrong, we are made to believe in the existence of hell. Like billions of people out there, I do believe. This is just some maybes. At least it keeps us in shape.

Before seeing you, my heart was a null set but when a vector of certain magnitude from your eyes at a deviation of theta radians made a tangent to my heart, it differentiated with an exponential function.

My love for you is like a quadratic equation with real roots, which only you can solve by making a good binary operation with me. Angel, I want you to know that the cosine of my love for you extends to infinity. I promise never to resolve your heart into partial fractions but if I do so, you can integrate me by applying the principles of limits from zero to infinity.

You are as essential to me as an element to a set. The geometry of my life revolves around your acute personality. Dream or Reality? Which Realm Are You Now?

Can you differentiate between a dream and reality? Hold on a lil' bit before you answer YES! Have you ever woken up from a dream with a so-its-a-dream reaction? As a “retired” bed-wetter, let me share my own experience with you for a moment.

Decades ago when I was still in “service”, I could remember a day on a soccer field playing football with my friends. I took permission from the interesting game to urinate. I got to the toilet, unzip my pant, showed that "guy" the way out of my pant and started the titration experiment. After that experiment, I did the reverse of the whole process and went back to the soccer field. It was so surprising I didn't get back to the soccer field. Rather, felt a get-up tap and behold my bed, which was dry the previous night, is wet. I could not differentiate between the two realms – dream and reality.

I once saw myself in a deep shit and was still thinking of how much punishment I’ll get from my mum. Only to wake up the following second with the so-its-a-dream reaction and started thanking God for that being a dream. I know if you search you mind, you must have experienced something similar. The common factor in all these will be our so-its-a-dream reactions. Then you'll agree with me that we never knew it was a dream until we woke up.

Maybe this idea of being a student is just a dream. Maybe you are a farmer somewhere and you are just taking a nap after the farm work done and dreaming of being an undergraduate or a post graduate student of a school.

Maybe this century, facebook, twitter, blogspots, hubpages, yahoo, gmail, etc. are just in your dream and the year is 1604. Maybe you are even about to be woken up by William Shakespare, who is your best friend, and will die in the next 12 years.

Maybe we not even humans and you are not only dreaming of being a human you so much envy but also dreaming of being a literate.

Maybe Sir Isaac Newton, Leonhard Euler, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, Georg Friedrich Bernhard Riemann, Plato, etc. are still alive and you are just dreaming of this year seeing how they are being remembered.

Maybe you are even one of the Israelites captured in Egypt as said the Bible and you are dreaming of reading the story centuries after. You'd better pray not to wake up because of King Pharaoh who may order anybody's head at any time...lol.

Maybe this is just a dream and what we even call a dream is the reality? I can go on and on with some of these maybes. As human, there are two sides to a coin. Only God knows what the answer is.
