Besides the security enhancements that you achieve with the implementation of Single Sign-On in your IT landscape, one important factor is always to estimate the Return-On-Invest that you get with this implementation.

Especially, if you plan to invest in a product solution like SAP NetWeaver Single Sign-On, it’s good to have an idea about possible cost savings. Calculations have to consider the number of helpdesk calls / helpdesk effort related to password resets and of course the loss of productivity for people waiting to get access to systems.

This was exactly the motivation for REALTECH customer Südzucker AG to get SAP NetWeaver SSO implemented, as they will save lots of password related helpdesk calls in the future. Read the full story in one of the next posts.

To get an idea of possible savings with the implementation of SAP NetWeaver SSO, check the ROI calculator that can be found here in the SAP SCN.

Many customers do not want an appliance in their DC. They have an existing strategy about the hardware, the setup of systems and the way the configuration should be.

SAP did receive this feedback – and is reacting.

It will be possible to install SAP HANA, SAP would like to review the hardware though.

So more good news for spreading the word.

Since April 9th, SAP NetWeaver Single Sign-On 2.0 is available for Ramp-Up.

REALTECH has already performed lots of succcessful implementations with SAP NetWeaver SSO 1.0 and is SAP Ramp-Up Partner for the new Release.

Our first Ramp-Up projects have already started and meet the customers expectations! If you’re interested in further details please do not hesitate to contact us.

One main feature of the new version is the SPNEGO (Simple and Protected GSSAPI Negotiation Mechanism) support for the ABAP world. SPNEGO for ABAP allows Web-based SSO access to the SAP NetWeaver application server ABAP and is supported with SAP NetWeaver release 7.40, as well as SAP NetWeaver 7.31, support package 7. Down-port for earlier releases is currently in progress.

The product comes with a number of new features like:

Enhanced platform support (e.g. SAP now supports Windows 8)

Tighter integration of SAP NetWeaver Single Sign-On into the overall SAP NetWeaver environment, which leads to reduced operating costs

Integration with SAP NetWeaver Identity Management and the Identity Provider component

Additional language support

In addition FIPS 140-2 certification is in process for NW SSO 2.0 to ensure tested security standards for the solution’s cryptographic module. This certification covers basic security requirements for production-grade components.

Sybase Unwired Platform (SAP Mobile Platform) now provides additional integration of supportability tools, including SAP® Solution Manager, SAP Change & Transport System (CTS/CTS+), and HP LoadRunner.

SAP Solution Manager integration

Sybase Unwired Platform (SAP Mobile Platform) is now integrated with SAP Solution Manager to support end-to-end tracing and change analysis, as well as workload analysis.

Perform end-to-end trace analysis for Object API, OData, and Hybrid Apps

Perform end-to-end workload analysis for Object API, OData, and Hybrid Apps

Perform end to end change analysis

Perform end to end exception analysis

System monitoring and alerts

SAP Change & Transport System Integration

Sybase Unwired Platform (SAP Mobile Platform) is now integrated with Change & Transport System (CTS/CTS+) to enable transport of application, MBO package, and Hybrid App package definitions from development to test and production landscape environments. The Sybase Control Center (SAP Control Center) provides export/import of applications, MBO packages, and Hybrid Apps to and from the corresponding archive.

HP LoadRunner Integration

Sybase Unwired Platform (SAP Mobile Platform) provides the hooks to integrate with your HP LoadRunner installation (separate license required), which enables the performance architect or developer to perform load and volume testing using standard tools that are available to SAP customers. A usage example for the tool includes load testing Sybase Unwired Server (SAP Mobile Server) with clients using Hybrid Web Container, and clients using OData over an HTTP channel.

As a result of SAP information from DSAG technology days neither Scale-Out nor System Replication is currently certified for customer to use for SAP-Suite on HANA.

System Replication as warm disaster recovery solution additional to “cold” storage replication is now supported for BI on HANA, but not yet finally implemented by the HW vendors.

As first HADR scenario for SAP Business Suite on HANA customer can implement a small solution for two single node installations as system replication solution.

Of course SAP is working on this topic, you can find some additional information (but not all) in SAP Note 1755396 “Released DT solutions for SAP HANA with disk replication”, all information is just available by contacting your hardware vendor and SAP directly.
