Hi there!

My boyfriend went into HMS Raleigh for his phase 1 training today and I start a shiny new scary placement year job at 9am tomorrow morning. Not brilliant timing but at least i'll be busy!

I just thought i'd introduce myself and plead for any hints as to how much communication i'm likely to be able to have with my man. He managed to send me a text before pipe down to say he'd arrived safely and settled in with the other lads.

Currently feeling like I might be very sick at any moment with this empty feeling but I suppose that's normal considering my man and I are usually very close.

Anyway, mine's a large glass of rosé please if the bar is open yet! (Hopefully followed by a few pointers on how to survive the training phase)

Hi lads and ladies, words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated...

OH's mother very insistent at getting a photo of him and posting it on facebook (whole world needs to know absolutely everything apparently). He's in phase 1 training at the mo.

However, I'm sure I remember him saying that there's a strict no photography rule, and I'm sure that if that is insisted upon, then sending any photos is a big no-no, let alone posting them on facebook??

Suppose I just want to know if, and how heavily, this rule is enforced. Don't want OH to send any photos stupidly and get in trouble! Think I'm being overly panicky but hey, that's my game. Don't want to start getting into stupid banter about this over text with him so thought I'd try you all xxx

As many of you know my middle monster has Aspergers.

As part of his routine prompts we use a lot of picture lists (that have been up forever) and charts.

These are like the lists we have in our head, only with an Autistic child these lists are so mundane they just can't learn them, their brain reacts in a way that blocks them, so every morning Monkey looks at his chart and his prompts and remembers to brush his teeth or to look out the window and see what the weather is like (he then refers to another chart to decide what sort of outer wear to put on!).

This September he starts High School. (I get to travel with him for at least the first three months to see if he'll be able to remember where to get off the bus!)

His friends have started to question all the charts and prompt pictures and he's started to resent them so we had a brain storming and he decided if they were more funky he'd feel better, kind of growing in sophistication with him.

SO here I am begging for any old, odd, unused Scrabble tiles, any letters, any amount, we need literally HUNDREDS, to give you an idea let me give you a prompt list.

undress and put on clean pants for bed
put dirt clothing in the laundry basket
go to bathroom and sit down for a think
wash hands BEFORE brushing teeth
get book
get glass of water
get torch
place all next to bed
check diary for next day
take out any non regular list and place in kitchen next to washing machine
kiss parents and go to bed
check time, if earlier than 8.00pm read book or draw
at 8.00pm turn off light

and that's the reason we need so many!

Monkey has several lists covering many eventualities, as he heads to High School they'll get longer, more complex and more important.

It always makes me a little sad when I have to invite people into our complex little world, but for us this is normality! :-)

I wouldn't change him for the world!

If you have any Scrabble tiles please PM me and I'll send you our address.

Beebs x

All, Poppy has suggested I post this over here on RP, so here I am.

Holidays for Heroes will have a stall at Weymouth Veterans' Weekend this year.

We run over both days of the event, and everyone gets a chance to see the vintage vehicles, watch the beach invasion, the parade and all the other fab events that take place.

On our stall there is work for everyone - erecting and dismantling the stall, eating cake, hanging bunting, making brews, eating cake, taking bears' photographs, and selling goods. Of course there's the opportunity to chat up members of the opposite sex whilst asking them for money. Did I mention the cake? The more helpers there are, the easier it is for people to take a break to watch the various events and soak up the atmosphere.

This year one or two of our regular volunteers are unavailable, so we need a few extra volunteers. If you can spare a couple or three hours you would be very welcome. Tshirts are provided!

Sgt Slingsby, Cpl Horsa and M/Cpl Amy Soldier are scheduled to be there. If you haven't met our bears, now's your chance!

If you'd like to help on either day, please let me know via PM or on this thread. Thank you.

Hello

I am thinking of leaving permanent employment to do short term temporary work. Wondering if anyone has any experience of doing this and give me some points about it which I may not have thought about.

Background: I am a retail manager and want to move in to HR, I have completed a HR qualification in my own time and expense as this was something that was essential for any entry level jobs I was looking at.
In addition to my job I help and support other managers with managing their teams, absence, conduct etc. I work with our main HR team doing this. I have tried to get some work experience to help my cv, but due to my location and the work load I have this is difficult in practice. My boss is not that supportive, as he feels I should concentrate on my day job more, which is very true, however my day job does not motivate me anymore like it used to. The only parts which do are when I am doing the HR side of my job, and I continue to do this to get experience from my CV.
A move internally is proving difficult, as I don't have experience and jobs do not come around that often , and again my location is not ideal (south west)
Also my current job has me working weekends, which means I don't get to see Mr S that much. He has been back 3 weeks, and although I had 3 days off when he came back, since then we have had 1 day off together. Yes we see each other at night, but we both acknowledged that there is a lack of "fun" in our lives, we spend most of time in domestic settings and it would be nice to have 1 day a week which we spend having "fun" together.
Retail work does not give a good work/life balance, given that at the moment Mr S spends 3 months of each year away.

Things I have thought about:

1)although I would love to hand my notice in and then start looking for contract work I know this is not sensible, so I will wait till I find something before handing my notice in.

2)I have a final salary pension which I have paid 10 years into so far, at the moment I contribute 10% each month to this. Not sure what will happen to this if I leave, but know final salary pensions are good thing, although I don't really understand much about the whole pension thing.

3) Mr S is supportive of me doing something else, and has said that he will also help financially if there is a period of time I am out of work.

4) there is a lot of contract interim work in HR and a few people I know who work in this sector did the contracting thing to get experience and this did lead to permanent employment.

Know there must be some other things I need to consider, so if anyone has any input it will be most welcome.

Thanks
Spanner.

So having the bed all to myself isn't as wonderful as I envisioned it to be! OH is only away for a week and although being able to keep myself busy with work, diy and sunbathing during the day, the nights are not quite so rosy :( Put simply, I miss him. Anyway I'll stop being such a soppy cow and open up a bottle of red as him being away for a mere week isn't why I started this rather rambling thread!

It's the monumental, typical me, foot in mouth kind of mistake I made the night before he left. Okay I might be overreacting but I feel pretty bad at the moment. Being the soppy cow that I am, and with only a day's notice that he's buggering off for the week, I had a little cry before he left. Okay not little....big soppy wet and monumentally embarassing tears streaming down my face cry. He assumed it was because he was going away which is partly true as I took most of this week off thinking he'd be around. Nonetheless, I explained to him that it's not that but rather that I need to get used to him not being around and I'm scared. Scared of how I'll cope and scared that whilst he's away he'll forget about me and ditch me when he's back. Now I occasionally find it hard to speak out about how I feel so I wrote all this down for him. He read it but never said anything back. Got some nice cuddles but no reassurance really. I feel terrible because it was incredibly selfish and I think he might have interpreted it as me being angry at him for going away and thinking that whilst he's away he'll just go off and cheat on me. Which is NOT what I meant. I don't think he'd do it....or I don't want to think it because he is a wonderful man whom I love very much. It's just that my ex did exactly that, had a whole other relationship going in fact, and even though I don't want to let it affect my life now it is still a fear that keeps resurfacing.

I've had one too many already so am probably rambling a bit, but I guess I just wanted to get a few opinions. Do you think he'll forgive me or will he hold this against me? How can I get over this stupid nagging fear I have of the past repeating itself? And, most importantly, how can I make it up to my OH?

Thanks to anyone who's had the saintly patience to read this! Drinks on me!
