I’ve FINALLY gotten my studio/meeting space finished and wanted to share it with you because I’m so, so, SOOOOOOOO excited about it. Every time I walk by it I stop and look at it. Even when the days are overcast or rainy, it’s filled with beautiful soft light. I was designing the space when I did the rework of my logo and branding colors earlier this year, so it’s no coincidence that the textures, patterns, and tones all sort of swirl together like a delicious cup of froyo. I found some of the furniture and the chevron rug on overstock.com. I mean, you just can’t beat $3 shipping! The wicker chairs and the wingback chair in the corner were Gregg’s mom’s that we painted and recovered. I love that they were in this room originally and that we’ve given them new life! The steamer trunk was my great grandmother’s…I wish I could see the memories that beautiful thing has lived through. My mom has gifted me with many of my amazing vintage cameras. Surrounding myself with old things makes my soul so incredibly happy. Other trinkets I’ve found here and there…HomeGoods, Tuesday Morning, various antique stores. The gorgeous fabric, pillows, ottoman, and window panels are from my incredibly talented friend, Jennifer Farley, co-owner of Bloom, LLC. (check out their Etsy store here!) Sometimes I just sit in the chairs and soak up the happiness here. Most days I can’t believe that I have this space, that I’m where I am in my career, in my life. At the last minute, we decided on University of Richmond for the backdrop for Kendall’s bridal portraits. We had photographed Kendall and Brad’s engagement session there as well, as it is right down the street from her parents house and held a special place in their hearts. The campus is so amazingly beautiful that there are no shortages of little nooks and crannies to discover. It is always hard to hold onto bridal session images until after the wedding, but this one was ESPECIALLY hard…I mean, get real. This dress is E-P-I-C. And Kendall looked absolutely stunning…on this day and her wedding day. Can’t wait to share those, too!

From a chance meeting one night in Philadelphia to a clandestine proposal in the snow atop Mt. Trashmore, these two love adventure and trying new things together! We had so much fun on the beach and playing under the Virginia Beach Fishing Pier during their engagement session. I know it was a long road getting to the wedding day but I hope you guys had an amazing time in Puerto Rico! Congrats!

No one wants it to rain on their wedding day. Especially when you plan to have it in a beautiful destination location like Virginia Beach. It wasn’t just raining on Chloe & Matt’s wedding day…it was raining sideways, swirling like a hurricane was bearing down on us. We had big plans of beautiful outdoor photographs for their First Look, when they would see each other privately before the ceremony, and with their huge wedding party, fun on the beach together. But they were troopers and thankfully, Waterman’s Surfside Grille was filled with large windows, overlooking the ocean, letting in tons of gorgeous natural light, and they were kind enough to let us come there and hang out for photos before the ceremony. It worked out so perfectly…I couldn’t have asked for anything more lovely. I was a complete mess during the ceremony, Chloe & Matt wrote THE most genuine and sweetest vows I’ve ever heard, Chloe promising to “hold down the fort” and keep the faith during the hard times when Matt is away, and Matt promising to always find his way home to her. It was seriously a privilege to be there and witness their love and commitment to one another. The rest of the day was amazing and the sun even peeked out a little when they left the church…smiling down on them.

Good GOSH I am SO loving RVA!! That’s Richmond, VA just in case you didn’t know. I’ve always had a gypsy soul…love traveling, meeting new people, and being inspired by new surroundings. Getting to photograph people in LOVE in new places just makes it even more amazing. Just like all of my clients, Casey and Rob were so worried, totally nervous that they wouldn’t take “good pictures”, feeling awkward and unprepared. And just like all of my clients, I assured them that it would be a little weird at first, I mean, it’s not everyday you are in front of a camera for your engagement session. And just like every other session, it took about 15 seconds for them to feel at ease, laughing and goofing off and cuddling and flirting and all the other good stuff I love to catch at unsuspecting moments. We had so much fun downtown Richmond in gorgeous Shockoe Bottom. This is what it’s all about!

Ms. Charlotte is one of my Baby Steps cuties and I’ve had the absolute joy of watching her grow over this past year. (You can see her super sweet 6 month session here!) I was so excited when her momma said she wanted to have a fun cake smash session outside in Byrd Park in Richmond, VA to celebrate her 1st birthday! She wasn’t too sure that she was allowed to grab the cake with her hands at first, but once she got the go ahead, she was digging in fist full! Such an adorable memory for them! And, of course, we had to get a few shots with daddy’s favorite jersey and a piggy back ride. I mean, look at those chubby little leg rolls. I could just eat her up!

I was SO, so excited when Neisha, of Neisha’s Blue, contacted me about photographing her little family. I recommend shopping her beautiful handmade items to all of my baby and children clients…they are ridiculously cute!! I suggested we head out to Windsor Castle Park in Smithfield, VA…it’s such a beautiful spot and I love finding new nooks and crannies where the light filters in just perfectly every time I visit. These three were so fun to work with and Neisha coordinated their outfits fabulously with the purples, grays and a pop of mustard in her sweater. Gorgeous!!

I didn’t have a chance to blog some of my favorite engagement sessions from last fall and I couldn’t go any longer without getting this one up. Moving to Richmond has given me the opportunity to find and shoot in some really amazing new spots…there is something about going to a place you’ve never been before, seeing the light in a new way, with fresh perspective, that makes me crazy excited as an artist…and this day was no exception. Tristen and Ryan looked like they had been cut out of a J Crew catalog and conveniently dropped in my lap. I mean, seriously. To say that I am excited about their Keswick Vineyard wedding this fall would be…well…it would be utterly understatedly ridiculous!! Such a beautiful day to spend with these two…and their fur babies…see you guys soon!!
