The British Masters of Erotic Transgender Movies

Tranisa is one of the very few producers of erotic TG movies in the English language part of this market. I talked to Cheryl about story lines, filming, porn stars and the future of Tranisa.

Q: Tranisa has established itself as one of the major producers of what we probably could call softcore MTF transgender erotica. What made you start this enterprise?

A: For many years I had wanted to create a range of transgender fantasy films which were 'tasteful' and fun. I have never seen any available anywhere and had no idea if there was a market for them.

I had all the kit and skills required but no idea of how to actually go about all the admin and logistics behind making such films. I started working for a client about 5 years ago filming and editing hard core films for a famous UK sex site and soon learned the business. I was introduced to the models we use and it went from there. It is one of those industries where I think you have to be introduced to by someone in order to get into it and understand it all. It has been a real learning curve, but fun.

Q: You have mostly produced films with a focus on crossdressing and feminization of men. In Rosemary's Tranny you have -- for the first time, I believe -- made use of another motive from transgender erotica: The magical transformation. What made you do this, and in what way does this pose different challenges for you as a movie maker?

A. I guess we are really trying to create a movie out of the niche of TG Caption erotica, which does feature magical transformations as well as real female models playing the part of the transformed male.

There does seem to be quite an interest in using real girls to play the transformed males rather than making use of a transsexual model. Maybe using a transsexual model or even a male dressed up is simply not enough to make the fantasy work for TG Caption enthusiasts? So I knew that there is an interest in this type of genre, it is itself a niche within the world of transgender erotica.

As this was our first magical film it was a real challenge to think up a story where magic would be a justified use of transformation. I have always been interested in horror and exploitation films and so applied my interest to the film, as I did with Shock Transformation and Sexchange Experiment Camp.

The real problem was adding all of the green screen special effects and other visuals to make it a fun movie. It took ages to edit, far more than our regular Tranisa films. If I was to do another magical one I'd have to have some suggestions as to what story to follow.

Q: You are working with some very known stars from the British adult industry. Rosemary's Tranny features Paige Turnah and Sapphire Blue. I am sure some of my readers would really like to know how that feels. Moreover, how did you get to know them?

A: I was on holiday recently and I let out to out tour guide that I make erotic films and I work with Paige Turnah sometimes. He was amazed, as he put it "God Paige Turnah is famous". He was very curious about me after that conversation LOL.

When filming I have no time to think about how well known the models are as I'm too stressed out. All of the models we use are very professional and talented at what they do. Not many people can do what they do. They really enjoy filming with us and do work very hard at giving their best.

Paige Turnah is very friendly and a joy to work with, I do put her on a pedestal as she really is a goddess in my view. All of the female models are full of energy which rubs off on you. Their energy lasts with me for several days after a shoot.

I got to know Paige and the other models from working with them on hard core shoots. The girls are all very nice people and I feel honoured to work with them. Sadly I don't do these hard shoots any more as the recession has hit hard and my client now manages without my talents.

Q: Have some of them asked you what all of this feminization and transformation stuff is about?

A: On our first filming day almost three years ago the two models didn't know anything about the transgender fantasy scene. When I first approached one of the models she said,"You want me to dress as a boy?", as she really didn't understand what I was going on about LOL.

Upon explaining she was quite amazed and could not wait to get started. On that day I had a post op friend on set with me. At the break the female model asked to see her post op vagina so they went off into the toilets for study. The transgender scene is very far removed from their own lives so it is something very different for them.

Q: You know I love that wonderful British humor that permeates you movies and some of the dialogue is very funny in an understated kind of way. Do the actors improvise or do you write a complete script for them?

A: It is a bit of both. The scenes are scripted (Paige never reads the scripts, but manages very well) and we walk through it all.

Some of our best material is when we just give a very brief outline and the girls just make it up as they go. It comes across very naturally that way. Just like the way the American comedy series Curb Your Enthusiasm is filmed really.

Q: In Rosemary's Tranny your team has clearly put a lot of effort into props and surroundings. There are Renaissance magical diagrams and drawings, candles and pentagrams. Where do you find all this stuff?

Reproductions of old manuscripts are used to find
occult symbols.

A: The images were from very old works from around 1750, so no copyright issues. Seek and you shall find.....Ebay is a great place to find cheap props.

Q: Do you plan to make more movies of this kind, i.e. where the main male character is physically changed into a woman?

A: I would like to. We have to see how popular this one is first.

All of the films are very expensive to make. If you imagine we pay the models their daily rate and their expenses, together with studio hire, equipment hire and admin costs. So they have to pay for themselves so as we can continue making them.

I think we have approx 75 films so far including the You Will Dress films. I hope to keep going for as long as people like and buy our films.

Q: There is clearly a market for transgender erotica, and looking at the statistics for my own site, I realize that there are millions of "crossdreamers" out there. Where do you find the majority of your customers? In Europe? In the US?

A: All over the world, there seems to be no main area. It is a universal interest that goes across all cultures.

The non English speaking countries also purchase the films too. We have many sold in Japan.

Q: You have stuck to the less explicit kind of adult erotica, and I understand there are good reasons for this. But do you think there is a marked for more hard core TG movies? Japan's adult industry seems to produce a new body swap movie every month (all of them more or less alike), while the Western industry has not seen this market.

A: Well the hard core films are about twice as costly to make and we found they are harder to sell. The market is swamped with hard core trans films and they all look the same, it's all one big blurr.

We did a few hard core Tranisa films but they were hard to shift.

We also had complaints from customers asking us to keep them softcore. I think eroticism is more important for the transgender fan, verbal triggers are also very important. Hard core fans are well used to seeing it all for free on the Tube sites and don't want to pay for it.

Also with hard core content there are many, many problems and there is always someone out there trying to prevent you from making them. When the shit hits the fan with hard core you find you have no friends when dealing with any legal problems.

Q: So where does you and Tranisa go from here? What are your plans?

A: Well good question. I don't know. I just enjoy making films. With each filming session I really want to improve on my last film releases. I hope the fans continue to write to me giving me ideas and suggestions. The response has been very good and fans go out of their way to tell me how they enjoy the films.

Music of the Soul, a Lesbian Romance

Rocker Mandy Harris finds a new life together with Annabella
in Music of the Soul.

After I finished Erik Schubach's novel Music of the Soul I stared considering the following question:

Does there have to be a transformation in a story for it to count as TG fiction?

There are no magical or surgical changes in Music of the Soul, but I could not help reading it as a TG novel.

Maybe it was the fact that the author is a male writing a lesbian love story that made me think this way, or maybe my mind is wired to look for transgender patterns.

I know that our female to male brethren -- the girlfags -- write and read stories that do not include sex changes. They just identify themselves with one of the gay male characters in their yaoi comics.

Whether Schubach is associated with the TG fiction community or not is therefore irrelevant. I read it as a great TG love story, and so can you.

This is the story about Mandy Harris, hard core rocker, who has retired, tired of her old life. She has a lot of unresolved issues, though, and and is no way a happy woman.

Meeting the deaf girl Annabella changes all that. Annabella has her own pain, but she is also an intense, lively and immensely loveable character who manages to drag Mandy out of her shell.

I know that Schubach insists that this is not an erotic novel, due to the lack of purely pornographic scenes. I beg to differ. This is a intensely erotic novel, describing the love between two women in a tender and compassionate way.

I know that there are many people in TG circles who argue that men can never really understand women and their approach to love. I beg to differ, again. I think we all share a common humanity, and that it is probably easier for male to female crossdreamers to empathize with the lives of women than men in general.

Schubach discovered to his own surprise that his book ranked No. 10 in the "Lesbian Romance" category over at Amazon. So if the female bodied lesbians out there love it, I guess the male bodied ones will embrace it too.

If you love TG love stories, this is the book for you.

New movie with magical transformation: Rosemary's Tranny

Here is Ed making jokes about Rosemary's
skills as a witch. If he only had read Rebecca's World, he
would have realized how risky that is.

Cheryl and her friends over at Tranisa.com has made their first TG movie with a magical transformation theme, and it is very sexy, indeed.

Mind you; It is softcore. The Tranisa movies develops a kind of fantasy tableaus, and it is up to you to imagine the rest.

The build up of tensions is wonderfully done, though. It is very erotic.

We meet Ed by the fire place with Rosemary, him helping her out with some paper work.

Given that Rosemary is played by curvy Paige Turnah, it is not surprising that he is a little bit distracted. Rosemary is strictly lesbian, though, and any more intimate affiliation is definitely out of the question.

Ed then finds Rosemary's spell book and makes fun of her presumed witching capabilities.

As always the Tranisa dialog is infused with understated British humor, and there is some very decent acting here.

Ed makes one fatal joke though, suggesting that if she is a witch, she could turn herself into a heterosexual or him into a woman.

This is, of course, something you do not make jokes about in front of witches (unless you happen to be a regular reader of this blog, and I do not think Ed is).

Ed finds it hard to adapt to his new
role as Rosemary' lesbian lover.

Anyway: The next morning he wakes up in a body that is amazingly similar to the one of actress Sapphire Blue, and Rosemary starts the training.

Full disclosure: I am listed as a creative consultant in this movie (wooow, indeed!). That does not stop it from being well worth the US$ 17.50.

This is a long story about a prison inmate who agrees to let the government do some experiments on him.

You know, if your government ever asks you to do some medical experiments on you, it is always prudent to say no. Our friend, however, didn't find the alternatives appealing, either, so there you go.

(Come to think of it: The readers of this blog may actually be willing to take their chances...)

This story is set in the reality distortion universe. Terrorists have detonated two reality twisting devices over L.A. and San Francisco, and the American authorities are trying to reverse engineer the technology behind the bombs.

The star of the story is played by Lisa Anne from my main repository of erotic imagery: Brazzers. That is Lisa Anne over to the right. You may watch the original movie over at Brazzers, but I warn you, their story lines always deviate a bit from mine. I don't know why.

There are those who think that the fascination for crossdreamer fantasies and transgender fiction is the end result of cultural construction in Western society.

I would therefor like to point out that the main producer of transgender erotica is not the U.S. of A., but Japan.

Erotic TG comics in Japan

Although Japan has adopted some of the West's hang-ups about sex (besides having some of their own), there is a thriving industry producing what can only be described as TG porn.

In my presentation of Japanese gender bender movies, I have noted the fact that nearly all of them are body swap movies based on the same narrative.

That might be the case, but the comic book scene is much more diverse. Japanese transformation comic book stories -- most often labelled gender bender manga -- present a wide variety of stories and methods of change.

There is also a separate genre for female to male crossdreamers, called yaoi, which may be very explicit in its depiction of sex.

Hentai

Hard core, explicit manga, is called hentai. There are a lot of such stories available for free on the net, many of them translated into English by eager fans. To what extent this fan activity can be said to be legal or not is unclear to me.

The Japanese manga industry may publicly condemn copyright violation, but the truth is that they often turn a blind eye to all the fan fiction produced by the relevant communities. Some of the transformation comics are "amateur" creations, where the fans put their favorite comic heros into new and interesting positions.

Finding sex change and feminization comics

Anyway, if you want to explore the gender bender hentai scene, there is much to find. You may, for instance visit sites like HentaiManga who has scanned versions of a lot of comics, not all of them Japanese.

Do a search for gender bender for male to female transformation. Then look for tags like "English" or "translation" to find comics in the English language. There is also a separate femdom tag, and a section for yaoi.

Some examples

Okawari Girl is, for instance, a story about a virus that turns men into lusty women, who in turn infects other men. Only lesbian love can turn them back to their former selves. The series is very explicit.

In Virtual Reality Shop our main character are misled into using software developed to make customers addicted to the product. In the virtual reality world he finds himself a girl.

In Witch of the East a boy find himself

In the Witch of the East a young man finds himself transformed into a woman with huge breasts. This is the story for the milk fetishists among you.

In Yume Demo Iretai a young man tries to stop a young girl from killing herself. She jumps off a bridge, but it is he who wakes up in the hospital in her body.

And yes, remember to read from right to left. These comics have not been reformatted for Western eyes.

But I am no expert in this field. Could my manga savvy readers point us all in direction of the real gems in the field?

See also Prime Hentai, which has a a good overview over gender bender hentai. Unfortunately there are links to pop ups and the download services used are slow and full of crappy ads.

g-e-hentai.org has many body swap and gender bender comics. The design is ancient and hard to navigate, but the stuff is there. This site also includes links to torrents.

Anime has a database with non-explicit genderbender manga. Manga Fox as well.

When I wrote the first stories from the Ereshkigal/Inanna universe, I had no idea there was going to be so many of them.

But there is something about having two powerful orders of witches battling each other and the power of the patriarchy that generates a lot of ideas.

This story, though, is more of a catching up tale for new readers. You know, giving you an idea as to what the mythology is all about.

By the way, Inanna and Ereshkigal were actually two of the major divinities in the Sumerian pantheon. And they were both godesses of war and death. I guess they had other ideas about the power of women in those days.

This photo comic is based on imagery from two movies made by RealityKings.com. They provide me with a lot of mash up material!

His mother invested everything into his skills as a pianist. And it worked. He had become the kind of young artist the newspapers wrote about and the girls flocked around.
