…the truth is that ubiquitous cameras only serve to violate the social contract that makes the cities work.

Excellent essay on CCTV cameras by Cory Doctorow. Now illustrated and available as an ebook (PDF) at

This must be, in words of the young american, the most amazing thing I’ve seen this year!

Euston, we have a problem - Part 2

THE LOG

Saturday 30th May. Publicly transported ourselves down to Akis again for more recording. The night before we’ve only been able to record one puny song, so the intention was to get a little more done this time.

Recording went pretty well, we managed to get through The Randominator, The Mnemosyne, and The Coming. Akis insisted to do a couple of takes on each of the main vocals, double takes on harmonies, double takes on falsettos and even double takes on breaths (!) – but don’t worry, Akis, we don’t hate you… I think. :)

We managed to get one hour off, in which we bussed to Camden Markets and got ourselves four lousy t-shirts.

Finished around 23 o’clock, went out to have a quick snack from KFC. Had a beer at the Crobar in Soho, which was absolutely positively jam-packed with metalheads. Nice, but loud. On request, Akis took us to one of his mixing venues, BarFly – which had no people, but was still loud. So loud they handed us free earplugs.

Peculiar. Seems that, if you want to serve alcohol after 23, the volume will have to be above 11.

Anyway, we were exhausted, so we cabbed back to Richmond.

Euston, we have a problem - Part 1

THE LOG

The Half Android (The Stig, The Vidar) flew down to London on Friday May 29th. Heathrow is a mess as always. In these eco-times, the hideous wall-to-wall carpet in the immigration area would benefit all of mankind by being blasted directly into the sun.

Nevertheless, we were quickly on our way to Richmond, where we would be staying that weekend (Thank you Bjrg!), while recording the vocals for our forthcoming EP The Randominator.

Some initial confusion about the correct station later (luckily the London Underground is a marvel of efficiency. Wonder how it was back in 1863 ), we met up with Akis Kollaros outside Euston Station.

After getting to know each other (and being earblasted by a constellation of Everton fans) over a quick pint at the local pub, we felt it was time to get some work done.

In the loft (four stairs? nooo) that is Akis’s studio slash apartment slash sauna, we decided to start with The Postal. Presumably an easy song to warm up with, as the vocals go pretty low in the start. Turns out it was quite difficult, Vidar being a bit nervous and, stupidly, not too well rehearsed. But a few hours later, after getting into the comfort-zone, it was finally a wrap around 21 in the evening.

A kebab and beer (and coffee) later, we ended up on a place called The Buffalo where we enjoyed the great band Kyrbgrinder

After the gig we popped by one of Akis’s frequent-mixing-venues, The Purple Turtle – that night was reserved for “goth” / “electro” or something people. Akis tried to assure us it was not so every night, but we’re sure he’s just trying to get away with something.

In the end, we invested 40 in a taxi back to Richmond, where we watched the stars over a cigarette.

To be continued.

Via LHR

THE LOG

Android Nation –

The Stig and The Vidar are flying over to London tomorrow, landing in Akis’s cuckoo nest to record the main vocals for the Randominator EP.

We’re so lucky to be sleeping over in a nice house in Richmond – Thank you so much, Aunt of The Stig! Note to self: feed the cat, don’t confuse it.

Akis was kind enough to invite us to a Kyrbgrinder gig as well. Brilliant!

Even though we will be photographed about 300 times a day, this will be fun!

Twitter’s acting up lately (damn you, Oprah, silly cow), so our tweets aren’t updated on this site. Feel free to check our tweets tomorrow.

Cheerio, jolly good chaps!
