(Extended). *A Copy in Motion *A show by participants of the lensbased class at UdK Berlin facilitated by Hito Steyerl The show focusses on a legendary Third Cinema short film: Now! by Santiago Alvarez. Compiled in 1965 from borrowed news reel materials, Now! became known both as the first DIY music video and pirate agit prop clip. The show asks it´s relevance today, in a digital era in which images and sound have become ever more mobile, and ripping, remix and collective production have become common tools. Dealing with the archive becomes part of the production of the contemporary. The works revolve around the journey of the sounds and images used in Now! and project their trajectories into the future. The show is part of the project “Living Archive” organised by ARSENAL. FREIRÄUME FÜR (MUSIK)KULTUR // INSBESONDERE: DER SCHOKOLADEN Der Räumungstermin für den Schokoladen, einer der wenigen verbleibenden selbstverwalteten und nicht-kommerziell betriebenen Kulturräume in Berlin-Mitte, war für den 22 Februar 2012 angesetzt. Kurzfristig wurde die Räumungsklage nun am 17. Februar ausgesetzt und die Verhandlungen über das Fortbestehen mit Eigentümer, Senat und weiteren Akteuren geht weiter. S*P*A*R*K.fm #18 nimmt dies zum Anlass zum einen den Ort Schokoladen im speziellen näher zu betrachten. Was macht diesen Ort besonders? Welche Geschichte hat der, seit über 22 Jahren bestehende, Schokoladen eigentlich genau, und wodurch zeichnen sich die aktuellen Kulturräume des Schokoladens aus. Insbesondere soll es in der Sendung um die Frage nach der Bedeutung solcher Freiräume für (Musik)Kultur im Stadtraum gehen - aus der Perspektive von Musikern und Konzertveranstalterinnen, sowie auch der Menschen, die im Bezirk leben. S*P*A*R*K.fm möchte diskutieren und herausfinden, welche stadtplanerischen Vorbilder und Ideen des Umgangs mit (Frei)Raum für (Musik)kultur es eigentlich gibt. Gibt es interessante Visionen und Beispiele von urbanem Raum, die eine Anregung zum Thema bieten? Wie verhält sich die Berliner Politik und was sind hier die Handlungsoptionen? Kann man vom Beispiel Schokoladen für zukünftige politische Planungen und Positionierungen lernen? Inwiefern ist die Situation in Berlin, mit freiraum-reicher Geschichte, besonders? Zu Beginn ihrer Deutschlandtour, die vom 12.02. bis 23.02. dauert, kommen Christy and Emily auf einen Besuch ins Studio von reboot fm. Die beiden Veteranen der New Yorker/Brooklyner Musikszene arbeiten seit 2004 als Duo zusammen. Christine Edwards brachte sich mit Hilfe eines Metallica Tabulatur-Buches das Gitarrespiel bei und arbeitete, schon während ihres Kunststudiums, mit vielen Band zusammen. Emily Manzo hingegen studierte Klavier und bringt häufig Werke zeitgenössischer Komponisten zur Aufführung. Als Duo bezeichnen sie die Velvet Underground, Jonathan Richman oder die Carter Family, genauso wie die russische Komponistin Sofia Gubaidulina als wichtige Einflüsse. Tatsächlich wirken ihre Songs wie eine Verbindung aus primitivem Folk und zeitgenössischer Kammermusik.
