so if we had online "book-cycle" where everyone could "trade" a book with another person--preferablly with-in the same geographic territory so no shipping was involved--we'd increase reading, save on printing and shipping!!!!!!

Folks would sign-up and list every book they are willing to "cycle". And their location. Perhaps "meet-ups" could be at local library once a week where the exchange is made.

Alternatives to Fireworks

We're just starting to understand how potentially harmful and dangerous fireworks can really be. The fallout from their fuel and combustible agents has been proven to damage both the environment and the human lung- we're still not sure how severely.

With a green-friendly solution in mind, here's a short list of some basic alternatives to fireworks... you should be able to find everything you need around the house.

-Replace sparklers with glow sticks

-Throw confetti instead of lighting fireworks

-Create a Mentos/Coke volcano

-Create a bonfire and invite your friends

-Fill a jar with fire flies, nature's fireworks

Use fire lanterns instead of fireworks

Thai fire sky lanterns make an excellent alternative to fireworks, which can have potentially harmful effects to the environment and human beings. Instead of harsh chemicals, fire lanterns use non-toxic fuel (a simple flame) and can create a spectacular effect when released in large numbers.

Just be sure to check with local authorities whether or not releasing fire lanterns is legal in your neck of the woods. They have been known to cause fires, so err on the side of caution.

green buzz word

If green is the buzz word of the decade, then going green is the buzz phrase of the millenium. No global movement has garnered such attention or has commanded such respect as the admiration for preserving, protecting and enhancing our world.
