There is no way to deny it. Many of the employers are giving the brush off to anyone unemployed even if they don't state it in their ads. They do it in secret. They want someone without gaps. They want someone that will give their all to the company while the company does not reciprocate.

To all you employers that do not hire the unemployed answer this question: How is not hiring the unemployed helping with the huge unemployment situation that we have on our hands?

Hello,

I am wondering if people who have had success with applications in which they have included a cover letter can help me. I am wondering simply because I have received such a variety of suggestions.

Basically, I am wondering if addressing to "Dear Hiring Manager," when no contact is listed actually works. Has anyone heard back after using that? Do I ALWAYS have to have the name of someone on the cover letter? I am wondering also if I look up on places such as LinkedIn and find an individual that I THINK is appropriate, if it is ok to try them even if I wind up being wrong. In other words, is it worse to have no contact listed and use Dear Hiring Manager, or use to address it to a wrong human resources manager in the company.

Thanks again!

It's time to be at war with these staffing agencies and companies that keep wasting job seekers time with their antics. Let's fulfill these boards up because we have a voice and it needs to be heard through searches of Google, Bing, and Yahoo. It's time to wake America up.

Months ago, I started a discussion telling my peers to avoid Essex Temporary Services. I will now try to boost the topic back up the forum before someone else become victims.

Let's start blacklisting these HR reps RIGHT NOW! The unemployment rate in this country is at an all time high. Congress can't keep extending unemployment benefits...they need to be on these companies behinds. WE NEED OUR BAILOUT.

Come on...name names of people posting these fake job postings and using fake company names to play with our minds.

Hi, I'm an RDH in California and am nervous about the job prospect for RDH's in Spokane WA. I am currently in the process of getting my limited license which is all I qualify for since I am out of state. Do DDS's typically hire RDH's with just a limited license since you can't preform local anesthesia with a limited?
I understand prospective RDH's have to take the WREB and pass to become licensed. Doesn't WA just have a WA state boards exam or do you HAVE to take the WREB (expensive exam!!) After passing the WREB can you practice in states other than WA? What is the job outlook like? Can you live in Spokane but work in Idaho with a WA license since it's so close? I have contacted the Dental Hygiene Program in Olympia numerous times and no one there has answers to these questions. Thanks!

Yet another poor jobs report was announced today. This is making the chances for the current president to be re elected. A day when he is having 6 fund raisers. What a waste of time! At the rate the monthly reports are showing, he has no chance of winning this time like he did in 2008. People will not fall for it again. He only has months to reverse the damage and it is almost to late for that. I was hoping for a better reading today, oh well maybe in 5 years from now.

I am currently in community college and planning to pursue a Master's in OT. The university I plan on transferring to (before transferring to the next college that offers the Master degree) does not have a bachelor's OT program. Instead I have the choice of either majoring in Kinesiology (Therapeutic Exercise and Rehabilitation option) or in Health Science (Community Health Education option).

My questions are:
1) While I understand that kinesiology would be a much more demanding degree to obtain, would it be worth it and more valuable to have knowledge in this field as an OT?
2) What skills do I need to prepare for my Master's degree in OT; AND/OR What will I even be learning in the master's program (the course outline on the school's website is not descriptive)?

Thanks for reading. I look forward to your responses.

I was invited to test at valero in the houston/texas city area. I have a few questions. First, has anyone tested at valero and if so what is the use of information portion of the test.

How difficult is the test? I have basic mechanical aptitude like gears, pulleys, levers, basic math, etc... Is there anything else the test focuses on. Is the test multiple choice? I heard quite a bit of common sense is on there but also heard it has gotten harder to weed out people.

Any comments would be appreciated. I'm really nervous since this is my first mechanical aptitude type test.

I WAS a pharmacy manager for a boston store for 11 years.
The job: retail pharmacy- patients are sick so they're grumpy. always give them the benefit of the doubt because they're "always" right. after all your everyday hardwork, if you get 1 unhappy customer who actually files a complaint- whether its "too long a wait", "the co-pay was too much", "the item was not in-stock", "item was not ready as promised" or just simply "the staff is not friendly" - expect a sit down talk and action plan with your supervisor.
Oh, did I forget to mention that you are severely UNDERSTAFFED. Go figure out why. for that kind of work, not to mention being on your feet every minute, with hardly any time to go to the bathroom, dealing with long lines, not to mention 3 pharmacy calls all at once, you get paid anywhere from $8 to $10 as a new pharmacy technician, with annual maximum raise of 3% (0.30 cents)-if you're lucky.
The benefits package might sound appealing but if you take out the premiums you'd pay for the cheapest medical insurance- you barely have enough for coffee or gas money.
If you're smart enough- go figure why CVS is so desperate to hire pharmacists and pharmacy technicians- people are quitting. CVS is not expanding nor opening new stores, at least not in boston.
To the brave ones who still wants to give CVS a try- good luck to you.

You are a slave to the owners. You will do whatever they decide they want you to do to make them more money (give immunizations, work with insufficient support staff). Anything the customer says against you, you will pay for. It does not matter if the customer is lying. If the customer complains, you will be reprimanded. It pays well, but you get no respect- from the customers nor from the corporation. It is so bad that I have been looking for a $10-$15 per hour data-entry job with insurance benefits where I just type all day and everyone basically leaves me the f--- alone.

Esthetician Forum - Am I being unrealistic here?

I'm planning on starting school in 2 months for an esthiology program at an Aveda Institute.

I have always struggled with my own skin (acne) and therefore have interest in how to take care of it properly and pass my knowledge onto future clients via facials and such. Plus, I think doing treatments like herbal wraps mud wraps will be fun for me. I think I'd really enjoy helping others relax.

HOWEVER, and this may be a BIG however, I am NOT interested in makeup (I don't wear it myself, and am actually against it), I am NOT interested in waxing anything other than facial hair and I certainly do not want to wax other people's crotches. There is a reason God gave us crotch hair, I believe.

Am I picking the wrong career here?

Its just that at 28 years old, I can't think of any other career that I'd be passionate about. I'm vegan and Christian but can't seem to find a job that emcompasses those passions in the Orlando area. So, that left me with skin care. And specifically Aveda because they are so earth conscious and all products are not animals tested and contain no animal ingredients.

I know that if I work as an indepedent contractor and rent a room as an esthetician, I'd be able to be picky and simply NOT OFFER crotch waxing or makeup applications, but I DO NOT want to be self-employed. I'm recently coming off of being a self-employed promotional model and the self-employment taxes and necessary documentation of every little expense got quite annoying. SO, time for a change, I thought.

If anyone has ANY advice, please... don't hold back. I really need objective opinions before I spend $6400 at The Aveda Institute in Orlando.

Any HR/Recruiters out there, I could use some help. I interviewed with one of the largest O&G companies about 5 weeks ago. Interview went great. It's been 5 weeks and nothing, I have tried contacting everyone that I had contact with in that organization by phone and/or e-mail. Nothing, no reply. It's like I never existed or I have been hallucinating for the past 5 weeks. This is extremely frustrating, not knowing. Even a simple rejection form letter will do.

From what I have been told they do very thorough background checks on their technicians, I can't imagine it could take this long.

Anyone with insight, please share.

Good luck & God bless!

I have a friend who's stuck in a dead-end job. She has a bachelor's degree and she's willing to be uprooted and work primarily for room and board if it helps her career. Something like the Peace Corps sounds perfect for her. Does anyone know of anything else in that same category? Organizations that are always looking for people and that don't require a highly-specialized background, and preferably it should look good on a resume (besides the military or the Peace Corps).

She's on anxiety medication but is otherwise perfectly healthy, and she's an all-around competent, intelligent, hard-working person.

this is the worst company do not apply if you are 40 or older. I went there today. This is after they accepted my application online. 15 minutes into the onsite assessment no test given just paper work for backround check I received an email on my black berry that I was no longer being considered for position. The only thing they did not have from my online application to when I went there was my age one of the forms requsted my birthday so they could complete backround checks. Trust me I know I dont have a criminal backround and they did not even have time to check. The stupid instructor obviously never heard of modern tech. The email came right to me I had not even done any testing. Absolute age discrimmination.
