Websites which outrank you on your keywords are your online competitors. You need a list of few websites which appear on your multiple keywords and follow the following 5 steps:

1) Backlink Analysis

For this task, you will need link analysis tool’s (you have available). I use Open Site Explorer and Raven Tools. List all the links of your competitors (which are relevant and taken from authority websites) where you can also get link through an email/call outreach.

Record every link status in a file so you won’t overdo and save some time to work on other websites for link building.

2) Content Strategy

Here you require analyzing both onsite and offsite content strategy.

i. Onsite: Analyze what kind of content they produce on the website (blog, info-graphics, news, events, resources, eBooks, targeted keywords page etc.), what is the frequency of uploading fresh content, which kind of posts get good amount of shares and comments, what kind of topics they cover (keywords selection with their searches). In-short you have to list every action your competitors take for producing content on the website.

ii. Offsite: List all the websites where the competitors published the content (guest posts), what kind of content they produced, what is their linking strategy (for keywords and other blogs), what is the frequency of adding new content etc.

You can extend the list upon your requirements, business goals, competition, industry and activity of your competitors. To find all the guest posts created by your competitors:

3) Paid Strategy

List your competitor’s strategies of paid marketing i.e. sponsor links, PPC (Adwords), Google Shopping, Paid business profiles, Facebook Ads etc.

These are expensive but highly effective which require less effort and turn-out more. It also depends on your business goals and competition of the industry (if you are going to invest).

4) Social Media Strategy

Analyze how your competitors engaging the audience on social media channels i.e. how they grow their network, what is the frequency of their per day postings, how many mentions they receive, what kind of postings they usually get more interaction (shares, comments, likes, RTs, +1s).

5) Build Your Own Strategy

Research your competitors not to follow them but to analyze and to come-up with a new better strategy. Look what they are missing, where they lose opportunities, also research where they are good at so that you can present your business in a new and better way.

A few years ago, Google FeedBurner had a Socialize option that let people share their blog posts (RSS) directly on Twitter. But this service was depreciated, and people started using third-party apps such as twitterfeed instead. While these apps work fine, they leave you somewhat dependant upon them. Now though, it seems Google is throwing a new line out for Bloggers who'd like to share their RSS feeds to Twitter directly, because the Socialize option is coming back! This indeed marks another step forward for Google/Twitter Integration. Now, you can share your blog posts (RSS feeds) to Twitter without any third-party apps!

Remove third-party apps from Twitter

First of all, to avoid any redundancy, you have to first remove any auto-scheduling apps for Twitter. To do this, log into your Twitter account, and click on the gear icon on the top-right corner. Then click Settings. Now, from the left sidebar, click on the Apps tab.

Here, you will see all the Apps that you're using with your Twitter account. Next to each app is a Revoke Access button, which essentially deletes the app. Delete any scheduling apps you're using to auto-share your blog posts to Twitter, such as twitterfeed.

Share updates using Socialize

Sharing your updates on Twitter is now easier than ever. To use Socialize, follow these steps;
Log into your FeedBurner account, and select the feed you want to share on Twitter.

Outdated Post

Before you start writing a guest post, you must first ask yourself if the post is good enough. I have seen many guest authors submitting outdated articles as guest posts. Stop kidding me! You can either add it from the 'Add a gadget' menu or grab the simple search form HTML code given after Step 7 below.

12 Ways to Get Other Sites to Link Building

In their book Ultimate Guide to Link Building, link-building experts Eric Ward and Garrett French offer straightforward advice to help you earn a higher search engine ranking and increase the authority and popularity of your site. In this edited excerpt, the authors show you how to craft an email that will get more people to respond to your link requests.

Email inboxes are busy, and you need a way to make your email link request stand out from hundreds of others. Here are 12 elements your link requests should contain, followed by the logic behind them. Although these may seem obvious, the overwhelming majority of link requests don't contain them, so adopting these practices will set you apart from the competition for your target's attention.

1. A subject line that follows any stated directions given on the site you want to link to yours.
On many sites with collections of links to other sites (for example, some of the About.com guides), the editor in charge of link evaluation/selection often states that when asking for a link, you should follow specific directions. One of these is typically a special subject line, such as "Request for editorial consideration." If you haven't taken the time to look at the site carefully, or even if you have, and you don't follow the stated link request directions, don't be surprised if you never hear from them and don't get the link.

2. The site owner's name.

It seems simple, but take the time to look through the site where you want the link and find the site owner's name. Address this person by name immediately in your email. To begin an email with "Dear Webmaster" or "Dear Site Owner" is to be deleted immediately. Can't find a name on the site? Look for a phone number. Call them.

If you have a website with a personal URL in your name and someone sends you a "Dear Webmaster" link, it will be immediately obvious to you that the sender hasn't been to your site even though their email indicates otherwise. If this person really had been to your site, your name would have been the first thing they would have seen. People might overlook the mistake, but you'll increase your chances of getting your foot in the door if you take the time to address the site owner by name.

3. Your name.

Again, it's just common courtesy. The person from whom you're requesting a link is a human being, and so are you. A first line like "Hello, Mr. Ward, my name is Bill Thompson," tells Mr. Ward that Bill looked at his site and respects basic conversational etiquette. It also shows Mr. Ward that you didn't send that same email to 4,000 other people.

4. The URL of the site.

Using wording such as "I see that on your site you have the following content at the below URL" allows you to use a template approach but also shows the site owner you know their name, site, and a specific URL. You're obviously not lying to them or spamming them.

But don't show fake sincerity or imply friendship when in fact you've never met. Be professional, courteous, and to the point. People get turned off by emails from strangers who act like their buddies.

5. Your site's name and the URL you're hoping they'll link to.

For example, "I am contacting you about my site, called [SiteName], which is located at [URL]."

6. The exact URL on their site where you think the link is a fit.

"With regard to your page located at http://www.[page URL]." This is especially helpful for people who maintain large sites with hundreds or thousands of pages. Help them help you.

7. A short paragraph that describes your site.

Don't oversell your site or offer 76 reasons why they should link to it. If they link to it, it won't be your email that convinced them. It will be because they looked at your site and determined whether or not it's link-worthy based on their criteria.

8. The exact URL from your site you want them to link to.

"Since I have a splash page that has some Flash elements, you may prefer to use this URL for linking: http://www.SiteName.com/noflash.html."

9. A valid email address and response to any requests made to that address.

"If you would like to contact me about this, please feel free to reach me at my personal email address below." (Then list your email address.)

10. Your phone number.

"Or, if you prefer, you can also call me at this phone number . . ." If you're seeking a link from a site where a return link is required, also include:

12. The URL on your site where they can see the link to their site.

The bottom line is, by recognizing the individuals on the receiving end of your link requests, you immediately move out of the spam realm in their minds. When most folks receive link letters, they look for telltale signs that they were singled out individually. If they spot an obvious bulk link seeker, they usually delete it immediately. This means you can't automate this process, and it means you have to create and send each link request one at a time. As you should. Sometimes each site takes an entire three clicks and two minutes. 7> Login with account having least privilege:

8> Keep your WordPress updated:

9> Use .htaccess to protect your directories:

During installation of your WordPress always change the default username from “admin” to something else. Choosing a different username other than admin is equally important as choosing a strong password.

13> Prevent directory traversal:

Put a blank index.html in every directory in your server it will help when your web server stops working or stops interpreting PHP. Then if anyone visits your directories in your server then he/she will not be shown all the files of that directory.

14> Set Correct File Permission:

Check permissions in your file set by your host, there are chances that you need something else. Always give least permission to files and folder based on their purpose and use. I suggest for files use “644” or “640” and for folders use “750” or “755”.

Advance Ways: For people who think their websites are really important and they care for the security of their website. Below are some security steps you should follow if you know what you are exactly doing else it may lead to something else that you never wanted to do.

1: Disable Custom HTML When Possible:

WordPress can use custom HTML for various functions. May be in your website it is not really needed for the form and function of your website, you can disable unfiltered HTML by adding a single line in your wp-config.php file.

2: Keep WordPress Cookies Salted:

If your Password gets compromised then also attacker should not be able to change your theme’s code. If attacker can change your theme’s file then it may end up with uploading a shell or putting a malware in your website. You should disable editing from wp-admin by placing a single line in wp-config.php.
