Central to its design philosophy over the years is the company's insistence on absolute sound neutrality of the microphones. It is really no wonder that Schoeps has so many supporters, not only in the area of classical music recording and reinforcement, but also in film and television. Learn how to soundproof a professional recording studio in this how-to video clip on professional recording equipment. Here is a quick video that shows you how a professional sound booth is built. From the walls, to the patch bay, even the glass. A soundproof room does 2 things. First it keeps all the sounds from outside the room getting in the room. Second, it doesn't let the sound waves in the room reflect around and produce any room noise. These reverb free rooms around called anechoic which is the technical tern, or dry. Alot of recordings these days are made in "dry rooms" and then the ambiance is added in later with plugins or hardware gear.

Loop making: Do it your self

This is my crazy experiment with sound engineering. I recorded with my camcorder sounds of:
- plastic bottles
- energetic drink can
- scisors
- groats
- spray
- ruler
- driller
- CD boxes
mix it and add some effects like chorus, reverb, flanger, phaser or fuzz. The next step was to create something like music (space/disco?) and use video tracks to make video.
Btw: Stop motion animation I create during first rendering of this video (it takes over 4 hours - Vegas video isn't good to make complex 3D animations)

New entry level DAW Steinberg's Sequel

A short video documentary on the creation of Random House Audio's STAR WARS: EPISODE III: THE REVENGE OF THE SITH audiobook. I have recorded 2 small audio books so far, it is pretty good money. Look at the microphone placement in this video. It is above the head of the voice talent pointing at his mouth. This is a great positioning for long scripts because you can place the scripts underneath the microphone. The voice can easily see the script and you are still getting a great recorded signal.

Answer:
There is only one way I record the bass. It's not the only way, but it works.
For the big projects we always record the bed tracks first. The only tracks that are "keepers" is the bass and drums. We hook up a bass to a DI box and run that channel straight into a pre amp. This pre has 2 outputs ( balanced and unbalanced) The balanced goes to the sound card to be recorded, the unbalanced goes to the monitor mix. We are lucky to have a Grace 101 preamp, that gives a very clean "larger then life" sound. We use that setup for almost ever bass track, so to be honest I do not have too much experience in other signal chains. Besides the Grace, there is allot of pre amps that will do a great job.

Have you ever heard of DigiZine? It is a magazine published by ProTools, I picked up an issue that focused on Nine Inch Nails and their recording of the Album "With Teeth." This article was so interesting to me that I bought the album so I could hear what the article was talking about.
Beyond being a well mixed, well arranged recording, the one thing I noticed is that all the songs were not max out in volume. I found this unique because NIN is such a "loud" band.
I highly recommend the album for anyone that needs ideas for adding sound design and effects to their tracks.

The microphone on my wish list right now is the Rode NT2-A. It has won enough awards to get my attention. There is lots of Audio Tehnica that could do the job, but I do suggest finding a microphone with selectable parameters. This will make the microphone more versatile in the studio so you could use it for other things with the different polar patterns etc. Let me know what you end up doing.

Plec giving you the grand tour of heavy drum mixing. Here you will find the multiple kick drum technique. This means you have more then one kick track. Each track will be a little different for the other. For Example, one track will be bass heavy and the other will have a nice mid range. You could always take a single drum track and duplicate it into more tracks and then mix each one differently.
