April 11 & 12, 2015 the Jaarbeurs Convention centre in Utrecht will host the 43rd edition of the Mega Record & CD Fair. An event that in the past 23 years has enjoyed international acclaim and made its name as the place to be for music fans, crate diggers, deejays and vinyl lovers. Packed with exhibitions, live performances, book signings and over 500 dealers from all over the world the fair offers the greatest choice of vinyl, cd’s and pop memorabilia. Don’t be surprised if you bump into artists searching for their own original productions. Some of the highlights of this edition will be a Rock Icon’s poster exhibition, performances by 6 Dutch singer/songwriters and a pop memorabilia auction.

Rock Icon’s from the last century
An exhibition curated by the owner of the Bamalama gallery John Brett (UK) showing rare posters of legendary pop music icons like Jimi Hendrix, Them, Pink Floyd, the Beatles and the Beach Boys among many others.
The exhibit will show the change from simple and innocent gig announcements of the early sixties to the much more sophisticated & psychedelic art work of posters later that decade.

Lakeside Stories presents 6 Dutch talented singer/songwriters
After last year’s success Lakeside Stories will return this April to Utrecht. Performances by six Dutch talents are on the program two of which are Maarten van Praag and Dick Kwakman with One Clueless Friend. Both of them will present their new productions on cd and vinyl as well. Other artists are Andy, Demi Knight & Luke Nyman with Rei Satoshi and De As. All under supervision by the initiators of Lake Side Stories: Chris James and Laurens Reij.

Omega Memorabilia Auctions
The fair also welcomes the return of Omega Auctions in April. Last November they auctioned many rare vinyl items like the White Album by the Beatles # 0000007 which fetched € 24.000,-. For April they have another 100 lots to auction. Look for all details and items on the website Recordplanet.nl

Over 35.000 visitors travel to Utrecht from all over the world this weekend to take part in this massive cult event. The resurgence of vinyl is unprecedented and uniquely popular worldwide, recently the New York Times published an article about this phenomenon and the fair in Utrecht. The Mega Record & CD Fair takes place at the same time as the International Collectors Fair, together they form a huge cult event taking place in the equivalent space of 10 football pitches.

Book premiers, vinyl presentations, guest performances, autograph sessions and pop quiz
Author Peter Sijnke will launch his new book about Dutch sixties band The Motions together with some ex members of this Dutch cult band from the sixties. Rudy Bennet’s New Motion will perform live.

Record Collector magazine (UK) will launch a new limited vinyl album of a live concert by the Zipps from 1969. Some original members of the 1969 line up will autograph copies for all fans at the fair.

On Saturday the pop quiz compiled by the Three Imaginary Boys will take place. A free quiz with lots of prizes like free concert tickets.

PLUT presents: The Vault with Lonesome Shepherd. This never before released 45rpm is the 11th single produced by PLUT and after 46 years finally available for every fan of obscure Dutch sixties beat.

45 rpm singles from the Netherlands have always attracted vinyl collectors from all over the world because they came with fantastic picture covers. Collector Hans Evers took up the job to catalogue the most interesting series and publish them in book form.

Funky Vinyl: Sly & the Family Stone, George Clinton with performance Seven Eleven
An exhibition curated by twin collectors Edwin and Arno Konings showing never seen before vinyl of these legendary masters of funk accompanied with a performance by Hollands longest running funk band Seven Eleven. This on the back of the recently published scrap books of both artists.

Reunion & première Secret Sounds
Performance by this Dutch band from the early eighties and first day release of the 11 CD-Box Secret Sounds – Complete Remasters. The box contains all the albums ever made including never before released songs. Afterwards all the band original members will autograph the cd for fans.

Le Guess Who? Festival
During the same weekend as the Mega Record & CD Fair, Le Guess Who? Festival will also take place in the city centre of Utrecht. Le Guess Who? is a four-day festival that combines a top-notch collection of today’s burgeoning talent with legendary, one-of-a-kind acts to create an atmosphere that electrifies the city. Steeds meer platenwinkels verdwijnen uit het straatbeeld maar de behoefte onder liefhebbers voor vinyl platen en cd’s blijft. Vinylplaten zijn tegenwoordig ook weer ongekend populair onder jongeren mede dankzij veel artiesten die hun songs op vinyl uitbrengen. Alle muziekliefhebbers kunnen hun hart ophalen tijdens een nieuwe editie van deze beurs, waar gespecialiseerde standhouders uit heel Europa elpees, singles, maxisingles en cd’s aanbieden naast allerlei muziekmemorabilia.

De platenbeurs in de RAI is al 21 jaar lang populair als een van de beste maar ook goedkoopste vindplaatsen voor het zwarte goud. De afdeling vinyl is de snelst groeiende op de beurs en trekt veel muziekverzamelaars aan die hier hun repertoire komen vernieuwen of aanvullen.

Around 1976 a new kind of Pop Culture was born in and around London. There was a depression going on and youth unemployment was high. In those days many young people had enough of guitar or drum solos by renowned musicians from the seventies which lasted for 5 minutes or even longer. Fashion designer Vivian Westwood and Malcolm McClaren opened their first clothing shop in London and attracted many young people. In the shop rock ‘n roll music was played as well as reggae as music by American bands like the New York Dolls or the Heartbreakers. It didn’t take long before McClaren brought the Sex Pistols together and the rest is history. The music of the Pistols went down like a house on fire and within a few months bands like the Clash and Generation X were born. Suddenly it was possible for every band to perform or release singles or albums and they did it all themselves. Because these posters were only made to announce gigs or records many of the posters were lost in the years after. At the Mega Record and CD Fair the finest and most rare examples of these posters will be exhibited with a guest performance by Arturo Bassick (Lurkers, 999).
