Plano West defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat put an end to his
recruiting battle on Friday by giving Mack Brown and the Texas Longhorns the
edge over Oklahoma.

The 6-foot-5, 230-pound son of former Dallas Cowboy Jim
Jeffcoat is rated as the top defensive end by Rivals.com and ESPNU, which also
ranks him as the nation’s No. 2 overall prospect.

Six schools were originally in the mix: Arizona State,
Florida, Houston, Oklahoma, Texas and Southern California. A few had personal
ties with the Jeffcoat family. His father is the defensive line coach at
Houston and played at Arizona State. His twin sister, Jacqueline, is an
Oklahoma basketball commit and USC assistant Ken Norton Jr. is a family
friends.

Friday’s decision, though, came down to Texas, OU and
Houston. He took his last official visit to Oklahoma the weekend of Jan. 22.
Brown visited him in Plano a few days before.

- William Wilkerson
