IntelliType Pro and IntelliPoint for the Mac version 7.01

! It's finally here! IntelliType and IntelliPoint v7.01 is now 64-bit compatible with Snow Leopard. I can finally go back to my Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 6000 setup.

The only issue is that it took literally 30 minutes to find the software. Microsoft's site kept pointing me to an older version (v6.x) of the software no matter what combination of keyboard/mouse/desktop options I selected. The first 50 websites I found on Google pointed me back to Microsoft's site.

I was able to find it finally on softpedia's site, and it was mis-labeled. Here is the link. The page is labeled as Microsoft IntelliType v7.01, but it contains the desktop programs. This means that both IntelliType Pro and IntelliPoint are included in the package.

Fixed the Dell Mini 9 Keyboard Itch

If you've played with one of these netbooks or have one, you'll know that the quote/apostrophe key is located in the wrong spot when compared to normal US keyboards.

...In the picture below, you'll see I named my Swapped. Not only will this allow you to switch between different keyboard types, this also will put another icon on the already tight Menu bar.

Trusty WRT54G – Transformed

Recently I changed from FIOS back to Cablevision and I found myself in a position of not having a modern wireless router. Yeah, I realized that as soon as I had order the re-installation of cable only 5 days before the install. FIOS had come with it's own cable modem with built-in wireless router. Cablevision requires that you get your own. I had given my Apple Extreme Base Station to my Dad as I thought that I didn't need it any more. I thought I had to go out and buy a new modem. I'm jonesing for the NETGEAR WNDR3700-100NAS that just came out - At $180+ I think I'll wait awhile for the price to come down.

Daddy’s Got a “New” Keyboard

It took me a week to remember but I did remember that about two years ago I bought a USB Bluetooth dongle along with a bluetooth headset. ... Plus the two aging iMacs in the kid's study room have been shutoff since they got laptops, thus their bluetooth keyboards were not in use...

Apple MMS = a Kick in the teeth

According to Apple, the 2G's hardware can't handle MMS, yet, if you jailbreak your phone, plenty of MMS loving. Oh and to add insult to injury, at work my cube neighbor has her 2G jailbroken and with her TMobile service, she is able to get full bar reception in our part of the IT dungeon.

Adventures in Snow Leopard

Overall, I'm impressed with Snow Leopard. I waited a while before upgrading as I wasn't too much in a hurry to upgrade everyone in my house to the next "service pack" (as those Windoze fanboys call it.) That changed of course when I downloaded the newest iTunes v9. I couldn't browse the iTunes store without upgrading my main machine to at least 10.5.8 and Safari 4. I decided that if I was going to go through the effort I might as well go with the latest and greatest.

Dell Mini 9 – Upgraded to 10.5.8

Wow.. I just upgraded my Dell Mini 9 to OS X 10.5.8 and I'm just completely overjoyed on how uneventful the upgrade went. Almost not worth writing a blog entry about it. I made a backup of my DellEFI v1.2 alpha 5 application, upgraded to 10.5.8 via Software update, re-installed the DellEFI, reboot. Done.

Although it seems like a lot of people have starting doubting the usefulness of these netbooks, I can tell you I get a lot of mileage out of mine yet. It now has a permanent home in my Go-Bag.

iPhone 3G LCD Screen Replacement

I'm on a roll! I can't remember the last time I've ordered so much stuff from eBay! This time, I got a LCD screen replacement for a cracked iPhone 3G. This replacement was CAKE! Mainly because I opted to get the right part and save me a ton of work. Details after the jump.

MacBook 13.3″ LCD Replacement

Ahhh... kids.... such bliss. What could be better? Kids and laptops...One of the kid's laptop LCD screen was damage - magically, of course. The screen had two very serious cracks which rendered the device pretty much useless. However, that didn't stop them from using it anyway.. In any event, this is a quick article to point out a couple of really great resources to perform your own upgrade.

Much needed feature in Outlook

Now, I'm not too much of a prude, but when you've been using the best of open source or Lotus Notes v8 (or even v7 or v6), Outlook 2003 seems to be a bit dated.

...Here are two reasons why rules don't work - you need to set the rule up before you send the email and in order for the rule to work, you have to trigger on something that is common in all the emails. ugh.
