src="img/spacer.gif" width="1" height="1" />

2010-03-08 | LOEB AND ELENA SCORE 4TH CONSECUTIVE WIN IN MEXICO
Rally Mexico (4 – 7 March 2010) – Day 3, final.Loeb and Elena score 4th consecutive win in Mexico Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena started the final day of Rally Mexico with a comfortable lead over their pursuers. All they had to do was to control the gap to score their fourth consecutive victory inMexico. The Franco-Monegasque duo fulfilled their mission. This win puts them in the lead in the Drivers World Championship. Dani Sordo and Marc Marti rejoined in the Super Rally and helped the Citroën Total World Rally Team to score more Manufacturers points than their rivals.The programme of the final day of the rally had been pared down. After a short stop in the Poliforum service park, the drivers tackled a loop made up of three timed stages, including a final pass in the ‘Autodrome de León’ super special.Sébastien Loeb who led the rally by almost a minute took the final loop seriously: “Even if the two stages include sections we’ve already covered over the past two days, I’m going to be the sweeper. I’ll have to find the right rhythm and that’s not really my cup of tea! I prefer pushing as hard as possible!”At the finish of the 30-kilometre Guanajuatito stage (SS19), the six-time world champion had lost 16 seconds to the quickest drivers: “Sébastien Ogier and Petter Solberg are going very quickly as they’re fighting for second place. As far as I’m concerned things are okay. I didn’t take any risks and I won’t really push in the last two stages.”Seb and Daniel continued in this vein, and when they came back to Poliforum de León for the last time, the whole team gave them a hero’s welcome. “ They did a fantastic job on the second day and that’s where they consolidated this mind-boggling victory,” smiled Olivier Quesnel, the Citroën Racing Team Principal. “The C4 WRCs have dominated this rally as they set all the quickest times. They also scoredthe first triple by a French manufacturer in a gravel rally. I’d also like to congratulate Petter Solberg and Sébastien Ogier for their great duel in the best possible sporting tradition.””This victory’s done us a power of good,” Loeb confirmed before stepping up onto the podium. “We controlled our race well and I think that we can look forward to the next events with confidence, as they’ll be run on similar surfaces. Thanks to this victory we’ve taken the lead in the championship and opened up a small gap over Mikko Hirvonen. It’s a good situation even if we’ll have to sweep the road in Jordan.”Dani Sordo rejoined in the Super Rally and did the job he’d been asked to do; namely, reach the finish and bag the points that went with seventh place in the Manufacturers’ Classification: “ I’ve put yesterday’s disappointment behind me and I’m happy to have set some good times while the other two C4s were battling for second spot. Thanks to this result Citroën has scored more points than its rival in this rally – and that’s the most important thing.”

2010-03-08 | FAITH IN THE MEN ABOVE

2010-03-08 | FAITH IN THE MEN ABOVE
HAMPTON, Ga. — The spotters picked the holes. Brian Vickers and Scott Speed trusted the call and drove right through as both Red Bull Toyotas finished in the top 10 for the second time in three-plus years of Sprint Cup racing.Vickers survived two overtime restarts and 16 extra laps to finish seventh in Sunday’s Kobalt Tools 500 — 525, really — at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Not far behind was Speed, whose 10th-place finish was his best at a track not named Talladega.The defining moment that gave Red Bull Racing Team its third-best combined result in history came on lap 332 — NASCAR’s first attempt at a green-white-checkered finish. Jamie McMurray had a smoky spin in turns three and four and collected five other cars. Right behind the mess in 14th and 15th were Vickers and Speed, and both made evasive maneuvers with the guidance their respective spotters. Chris Lambert sent Vickers up high near the wall, and Tim Fedewa helped Speed dive to the apron below.Speed predicted the restart was going to be “a cluster,” and after the smoke cleared Vickers countered with, “That was straight up Days of Thunder.” But both cars made it through unscathed, and eventually the field strung together two clean laps to the checkered flag.Vickers posted his first top 10 of the season, third in a row at Atlanta and fifth in the past six races there. He’s finished in the top 10 in half of his 14 starts at the 1.54-mile track.Sunday’s result helped ease the frustration from the No. 83 Red Bull Toyota’s dismal 31st-place showing a week earlier at Las Vegas. Vickers climbed to 16th in the standings and is only 14 points from the top 12.“That was pretty wild,” Vickers said. “We were OK today, we weren’t great. We started out really good and then as everybody else got better we just couldn’t seem to make any gains. At one point we probably made it a little bit worse but then by the end of the race I think we figured out how to make the car a little better. We found some gains this week that made us a lot better than last week, but we still need a little bit more.”Speed couldn’t hide his emotion after the No. 82 Red Bull Toyota crossed the stripe in 10th, his best finish since running fifth at Talladega in April 2009. And Sunday continued Speed’s strong start to his sophomore season. He owns finishes of 19th, 11th, 22nd and 10th, and is tied with Jeff Gordon for 11th in points.“Wooooo … Great job. Freaking awesome,” he said over the radio. “Really, really great. Holy crap. Unbelievable. So proud of everyone. What an effort.”Out of the car, Speed was calm enough to produce a more in-depth take on his day.“We kind of had to dog fight our way up there,” Speed said. “We were running sort of between 10th and 15th the last half of the race. To be dog fighting up there and to be able to scrounge and make really big aggressive moves on my part and to be able to see the thing go forward, that is huge for us. src="img/spacer.gif" width="1" height="1" />

2010-03-05 | MEXICO! KIMI R. GETS DOWN TO SOME ROCK AND ROLL....
Remember Speedy Gonzales? He was well-known as "the fastest mouse in all of Mexico". Shouting "Andale, andale, arriba, arriba!" from underneath his trademark sombrero, he managed to outwit all of his rivals (usually cats) through speed, cunning and judicious use of chilli sauce. Red Bull driver Kimi Raikkonen also showed plenty of speed and cunning throughout the opening day of the Rally Mexico, setting an eighth, a seventh, and a fifth fastest time today: his highest-ever overall stage result in his short World Rally Championship career. For a long time, it was looking very good. It went wrong on the final proper stage of the day though, when the Red Bull driver rolled into retirement virtually within sight of the finish line. After making great progress throughout the day, Kimi learned a tough lesson from the school of hard knocks. With his Citroen C4 too badly damaged to continue, Kimi's Rally Mexico is over. The 2007 Formula 1 World Champion said: "It was very unlucky: the car just slid wide at the end of the stage in a slippery braking area, so we clipped the side of the road and rolled a few times. I had hoped for some good things from this rally, but it was only my seventh event and I am still learning. It's normal that when you are learning anything you can get caught out by something unexpected and this is what happened to me today. My biggest disappointment is that we're not able to continue, as I wanted to have as much time in the car as I could. I had a really good feeling earlier and I wanted to push to see what we could do. I'm sure we will come back stronger at our next event, and while today was disappointing, I'm really enjoying my rally adventure!"Kaj Lindstrom, who has been Kimi's co-driver since the Finn started rallying last year said: "It was a shame that we ended our rally how we did as Kimi was making excellent progress, both with the driving and the pace notes. When we went off we were in a braking area for a left and then a right hand corner with lots of dust and sand. Kimi had been driving perfectly to the notes and it's the sort of thing that could happen to anyone. Up until then things had been going really well, and I'm confident that we'll be on track again at our next event. It's all part of the game." Kimi Raikkonen, Kaj Lindstrom and the Red Bull Citroen will be back in action at the Rally Jordan from March 31-April 3.

2010-03-05 | KIMI MAKES WAVES IN MEXICO 2010: RECCE REPORT.

2010-03-05 | KIMI MAKES WAVES IN MEXICO 2010: RECCE REPORT.
Mexico has a long and rich history in motorsport, with the first Mexican Grand Prix held in 1962. Mexico’s Formula One fixture lived on in its most recent format between 1986 and 1992 at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez: named after the two brothers who made history in Mexican motorsport. But this was somewhat before Kimi Raikkonen’s time, as when the last Mexican Grand Prix was held he was only 12. So Mexico is an entirely new experience and a new country for the Red Bull driver, who will take part in just his seventh rally this weekend. “It’s actually really nice to go somewhere new and see something different,” said Kimi, who has now completed the recce of the 22 stages that make up the Rally Mexico. “The event’s not exactly what I was expecting. The stages are quite demanding and twisty, but there are also some more flowing bits that are a little similar to Rally Finland. The good news is that there seems to be a bit more consistency in the surface than there was in Sweden. Even in the recce car, you feel that the amount of grip doesn’t vary too much. What it will be like when we come to doing the stages at full speed in the rally car, I don’t really know: but there are a lot of things that I don’t know about rallying yet!” Having been forced to sit out the Citroen Junior Team’s pre‐event test after aggravating an old back injury picked up in F1, Kimi feels confident that it will not trouble him further during the rally. “My back feels OK now,” he said. “I’m going to wear a kidney belt ‐ a type of back brace ‐ during the rally just to keep everything in place but I am sure I won’t have any further problems. If I was going to experience some pain I would have had it during the recce, but it was fine. I’m actually not too worried about having missed the test: the team has some very good data for this rally anyway.” One of the biggest improvements that Kimi has made since Sweden is in his pace notes, read out by co‐driver Kaj Lindstrom. “The level of detail in them is really good now,” added Kaj. “Our recce was really good and I could tell that Kimi had a great feeling with the stages. I hope that all the stages are going to go well for us, but there are a quite a few that we thought might be really good such as SS3 and SS12. The roads clean up quite a lot, so I think that our start position will help us too.” After learning a lot in Sweden, the 2007 Formula 1 World Champion is planning on taking the same approach in Mexico. “Most of the speed to come is from me learning more about the car, so that is going to be the main focus here,” he concluded. “We’re going to just build on everything we’ve learned so far at our own pace, and hopefully a few good stage times will come out of it too. At the shakedown tomorrow we plan to do as many runs as we can to get a feel for the roads. So far I’m really enjoying Mexico, although even on the recce I was quite surprised by how much power you lose with the altitude. We’ve had a really great welcome from everyone here and I like Mexican food, so I know we’re going to have a good time. After all, Mexico is famous for that!” Tomorrow’s shakedown stage will start at 08:00, from the service park in Leon’s Poliforum.

2010-03-05 | ATLANTA: A SIGHT FOR SORE EYES

2010-03-05 | ATLANTA: A SIGHT FOR SORE EYES
MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Never before has Brian Vickers been so happy to see Atlanta Motor Speedway.Coming off a dismal 31st-place finish Sunday at Las Vegas, where his No. 83 Red Bull Toyota was a handful for 400 miles and ended up five laps down, Vickers needs a solid showing. And Atlanta might just be the place to do it.Vickers finished fifth there in March 2009 and followed that up with a seventh-place run in September. In six Atlanta starts driving Red Bull Racing Team equipment, Vickers owns four top 10s. All totaled, he has six top 10s in 13 starts.“Atlanta has always been one of my favorite tracks,” Vickers said. “It’s fast and wide open, which really suits my driving style.”The 26-year-old nearly broke into victory lane last March at Atlanta. His No. 83 had Kurt Busch in its sights in the closing laps, but an untimely caution waved with four laps to go. On aging rubber and low on fuel, Vickers came into the pits in second and left in sixth. He ended up fifth.Vickers has one outside pole (March 2004) at the 1.54-mile track.“We are in need of a good run after last week in Vegas,” Vickers said. “I am confident in this team, and I can think of no better track in which to rebound and run up front. Atlanta’s been a good track for us. Daytona was good. California was good. We had good cars, but we didn’t have great finishes. Las Vegas was horrible, and we just want to get it behind us.”Teammate Scott Speed is enjoying a strong start to his sophomore season in Sprint Cup. He’s one of only four drivers to lead a lap in all three races (Clint Bowyer, Jeff Gordon and Kevin Harvick being the others).He ranks 16th in the driver standings, and more importantly 16th in car owner points. Speed still must clear the top-35 hurdle for two more qualifying sessions (Friday at Atlanta and March 19 at Bristol), but he’s built himself a nice little cushion based on consecutive top-20 finishes to open the season and a 22nd at Las Vegas. At this point last season, Speed’s No. 82 Red Bull Toyota ranked 37th in the car owner standings — eight points in the red. Entering Atlanta, the No. 82 sits 16th with 135 points to spare.“All the guys on the team are really hyped up,” Speed said. “We’re 16th in points. We never would have expected that after last year. Hopefully, we can keep the momentum going. We expected to be better, but you still have to keep digging.”Speed’s first NASCAR race of any kind came at Atlanta in the March 2008 Camping World Truck event. He finished 27th, but returned in the fall to finish fifth. In his three Sprint Cup starts at Atlanta, he has a best finish of 24th in September 2009.Summary :Coming off a 31st-place finish in Vegas — a race that Brian Vickers said was one of his worst — there might not be a better place to start a roll than Atlanta. "It's fast and wide open, which really suits my driving style," said Vickers, who has six top 10s in 13 starts there.
