The next Red Carpet Comedy is on May 30 (tickets available here) and already is set to feature some favourites of the stage that we don’t get to see often enough. If you just can’t wait until then, the next Live at Lolita’s is on May 10 and features Sean Lecomber, Doug Mutai and Chris Gordon. Tickets are $15 and available online here.

Performances from Jeff Kubik, Brent Constantin, Alan Cho, Cory Mack, James Moore, Donovan Deschner, Trish Cochlan, Daryl Makk and Doug Mutai were rewarded with big laughs from the crowd that evening. Everyone looked to be having such a great time on stage (even when jokes weren’t working as was hoped). And a special kudos to Doug Mutai: less than two weeks after the show he was off to Winnipeg for their comedy festival (televised on CBC in the upcoming months). He used the last part of his set to prepare a bit for the festival (he did some of his regular material to rehearse) and really wrapped up the show nicely. We’re all very excited for you, Doug!

Thanks go the James Moore for the photos from the evening (which can be seen in a Facebook album) – he was working extra hard that night doing double-duty on the photos and a spot on stage so we’re VERY thankful that he could make it. Also, working our box office (such as it is) was Karen Garth. The contributions that our “behind the scenes” people make really do make Red Carpet Comedy a show worth watching and we’re very thankful!

Calgary’s comedy celebrities will once again take the stage with their all new material on April 25. It’s a fresh line up of acts with fresh material that they can’t wait to see how an audience reacts to. You can get your tickets online or RSVP on Facebook.

To add some variety (and even more comedy) to the evening, we also welcomed a small group from Kaboom… Hooray! to share two sketches, “All Natural Diet” and “Genie.” Thanks to Ian Wallace, Chris Griffin, Kyle Francis, Brent Constantin, Jeff Toth and Jeff Kubik for making those possible. The whole Kaboom troupe is currently working hard to promote their entry into an online video contest (which we actually screened at the last Red Carpet Comedy show). Our next “Live At Lolita’s” show will have a lot to live up to but we are confident that we can make it just as good, if not better. Join us on April 12 to see how we do!

The show is called “Live At Lolita’s,” and will feature three Red Carpet Comedians in a triple feature format (about 30 minutes from each of them) as well as some sketch or other variety comedy thrown in for good measure. (This first month will feature a couple of live sketches from Kaboom… Hooray!) To get the show started with a bang, we’ve booked Lori Gibbs, Donovan Deschner and Trent McClellan! Each of them is a highly requested act locally and across the country. If you’ve seen them individually, you’ll know how amazing it is that they are joining forces on the same show.

Tickets for this show are $15.00 and available online here. If the name wasn’t enough of a give away, Live at Lolita’s will run in the same venue that Red Carpet Comedy does, Lolita’s Lounge.

While we do hope that you can join us for a memorable premiere evening (March 8, 2012), this is a show which will run with three different headliners every month (on the second Thursday) until at least June 2012. So if you have to miss this one, there will be another to catch next month.

The next Red Carpet Comedy show is on March 28. Tickets for that show are available online here. It will be another night of all new material in a show unlike any other in Calgary.

Kevin will be back through town sometime this fall with Scott Thompson doing a performing tour and we’ll be sure to post more information on that as it becomes available. While he was in town on this trip he stopped by Citytv’s Breakfast Television and met a Globetrotter in the green room! We managed to get a short video of the two of them in action…

If you’re interested in seeing more live sketches we’re going to be giving you that opportunity soon. Red Carpet Comedy is starting a new show next month that will not only feature Calgary’s top comedians (and RCC favourites) but some sketch as well. More information on that will be coming out shortly. For now, be sure to save the evening of March 8.

This video also kicked off our January show (in place of the sketch video we normally use). For the February 29 show we’ll be back to featuring a Kaboom… Hooray! Comedy! sketch. (Also, the Kaboom folks have a show running tonight if you’re free and up for some laughs.)

Donovan shared something from his first career in show business – magic. In the video you can learn to do a simple magic trick and all you’ll need is a rubber band. Plus, at the end of the instructional portion, you can also see a few more tricks he performed for the camera. (While the video was meant for kids, many adults have liked it as well; so we decided to post it on our blog too.) Enjoy!

A corporate group was in Calgary from Fort McMurray (warning sign #1, just ask any comic that has performed there) and on their last night in town they decided to take in a comedy show. The night previous they had all gone to see strippers (warning sign #2). Most of the group was quiet and respectful. One woman, however, was not. She had arrived drunk (warning sign #3) and despite the comedians’ best efforts (which began with politely asking her to be quiet several times) she persisted in her yelling out and heckling to the point that it ruined the show for comedians and the rest of the audience alike.

Afterwards, members of her group apologized to our production staff for her actions (they were embarrassed by her). The audience members that weren’t affiliated with them were shocked, saying that they had never seen anything like it and that it wasn’t what adults do. Wednesday is a night that we’re not going to soon forget.

It’s a huge risk to perform on Red Carpet Comedy. The comedians take these risks in the hopes of progressing their art form and becoming better at what they love to do. Our regular audience gets that and enjoys watching the process. We have taken solace in the fact that our heckler is now hundreds of kilometres away and we all hope that she never returns to a comedy show. Despite her attempts to break us apart, we are closer than ever, having survived this shared experience.
