We have been screaming for years for Penélope to return to the kind of form that leaves us breathless, and here it is.

Finally, a Chanel creative director has created a custom look for the Spanish actress that feels worthy of Penélope Cruz at a major film festival. Matthieu Blazy, I thank you.

The red is sensational, but this isn’t simply a case of relying on colour. The fitted bodice, fringed peplum and thigh-high split give Penélope a silhouette that feels sexy, sophisticated and unmistakably her.

You’ll also note that her co-star Patrick Schwarzenegger wore red for the premiere. Considering Patrick plays a young author who becomes friendly with Penélope’s character, Sofia, as her marriage to Javier Bardem’s Miguel comes under strain, perhaps the matching colour wasn’t entirely a coincidence.

You might feel there is something familiar about Penélope’s custom gown, and that is because it takes its colour, peplum embellished with crocheted flowers and beads, and three jewelled buttons from a suit in the Chanel Fall 2026 collection.

After so many years of wanting more from this partnership, I feel like I can confidently say that this is one of Penélope’s best custom Chanel looks, if not the best.

Red Gianvito Rossi pumps and Chanel High Jewellery, including diamond earrings from the ‘Reach For The Stars’ collection, completed her look.

Her red carpet looks have been just OK for me so far, but this archival Armani Privé Fall 2015 velvet gown is easily her best, with Celine and Chloé coming in a close second and third.

We may not have seen as many archival looks during this year’s festival, but this is another reminder of why the archives can be such a goldmine.

This is the type of gown that doesn’t need anything else. The sumptuous velvet, sculpted shoulders and crystal-embellished trim framing the plunging neckline already do more than enough. I also like the subtle modification from the runway, reducing the plunge and removing the illusion panel without changing what made the original so striking.

When I knew Maggie was going to be President of the Jury, these were the kinds of black dresses I had in mind. Hopefully, we can get some more archival Armani magic from her before the festival closes.

Photocall

As you know, I have been HIGHLY critical of Patrick Schwarzenegger’s red-carpet style for the best part of a year, and for good reason. His style hasn’t been as sharp as we had come to expect, so imagine my delight when he arrived at the photocall looking this good in Tom Ford by Haider Ackermann.

Finally. FINALLY.

The chocolate-brown suit alone would have won me over, but I’m particularly enamoured with the pale-blue shirt and contrasting animal-print collar. Who knew pale blue and chocolate brown would work so well together?

The Tom Ford Addison sunglasses and black Tom Ford Dagger boots completed this major return to form.

And then came the premiere.

Premiere

I screamed.

This is the Patrick ‘Swagger’ Schwarzenegger I know and love. I have tears in my eyes. Tailoring so sharp you could cut a rib-eye steak with it.

After months of wondering where his red carpet mojo had gone, Patrick answered emphatically in this Tom Ford by Haider Ackermann suit.

The red and black colour contrasts. The fit. The blue-and-white striped shirt. The white tie. Every single element is hitting for me.

THIS is why I was so frustrated with those previous looks. We know Patrick can deliver this level of menswear, and when he does, few can touch him.

In the words of Jay-Z, “I think I got my swagger back.”

Arrival

Penélope arrived in Ferragamo, with the drapery giving the black dress enough interest and the gold hardware at the waist providing a subtle focal point. Black Ferragamo slingbacks, a Chanel bag and sunglasses completed her arrival look.

Photocall

It was back to Chanel for the Bunker photocall, where Penélope wore a black dress embellished with feathered floral details around the neckline.

I am thankful for the feathered flowers, which transform what would otherwise be a straightforward black dress, just as much as I am thankful that Penélope is no longer in her Chanel-tweed-suit-for-a-photocall phase.

Chanel sunglasses, earrings and a bag, along with Chanel Fine Jewellery, completed her look.

Susan Sarandon wore a custom-made Fendi black dress with long sleeves and an off-the-shoulder neckline.

There is a timeless simplicity to this that works beautifully for Susan. The neckline is especially flattering, while her red lip and signature sunglasses add all the personality this look needs.

The red pin is an Artists4Ceasefire pin, which Susan wore in support of the collective calling for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. The pin was designed by Shepard Fairey and features a dove carrying a lotus flower.

Her co-star Luca Marinelli also wore Fendi, selecting a black double-breasted suit from the Resort 2027 collection.

You’ll either love or loathe the bandana. Without it, we would be looking at another all-black suit, but that small detail gives the look some personality.

Day Seven Arrivals

Florence Pugh made her return to the Venice Film Festival for the first time since promoting Don’t Worry Darling, when she served up Valentino for both her arrival and the premiere back in 2022. This time, she arrived in head-to-toe navy courtesy of Max Mara.

I love how super chic this is, and the ease of the silhouette makes it ideal arrival dressing. Max Mara sunglasses completed the monochrome moment, along with a black Chloé Paddington bag, which is still enjoying its comeback.

A gold Bvlgari watch completed her look.

Day Five Arrivals

Taylor Russell, who is attending the festival with her boyfriend, composer Daniel Blumberg, a member of the 2026 Venice jury, brought a welcome burst of colour to the Lido wearing a green Pleats Please Issey Miyake two-piece, with the label’s signature pleating front and centre.

Day Two Arrivals

Emma Corrin arrived in Venice yesterday wearing Celine, opting for an all-white look that plays with proportion through the oversized shirt and tapered trousers.

Had there been only one black accessory, I would have found the look a little disconnected, but the sleek shades, Celine Snap belt and Celine Jazz shoes distribute the black evenly throughout the look, so no single element feels out of place.

I have really been enjoying these Venice arrival looks. So chic.

Day One Arrivals

Armani Beauty ambassador Sydney Sweeney arrived in Venice, and I know the moment you saw this, you just knew it was an archival look. Mostly because her stylist Molly Dickson stays in the archives, but also because the lace, low waist and Bermuda shorts have early-2000s written all over them.

This Georges Chakra Spring 2003 Couture look centres around a sheer Chantilly lace halter top with a high frilled neckline. I love the delicacy of the lace and the way it wraps around the neck before falling across the body, leaving the sides exposed.

There is something very last-days-of-summer about the neutral palette, but the look loses me with the low-waisted sand silk taffeta Bermuda shorts, specifically that oversized belt. There is already enough detail between the lace and the volume of the shorts, and the look would have been much cleaner without it.

A sand-hued bag, tortoiseshell shades and Gianvito Rossi PVC Sofia mules completed her look.

Kendall Jenner has officially touched down in Venice, attending the festival in her role as an Armani Beauty global ambassador.

Her airport look was all about simplicity, with a cream sleeveless top and matching trousers providing the backdrop for the piece that immediately caught my attention: an oversized suede Chanel Resort 2027 weekender bag.

The size alone makes it a serious travel bag, but the suede, quilting, dark-brown leather trim and gold hardware make it far more appealing than your standard carry-on.

Kendall completed her look with The Row Stella leather slippers and Side Eye New York 223 Butler St sunglasses.

Laura Dern, who is in Venice to present George Clooney with his Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement during tonight’s opening ceremony, arrived wearing an Alaïa white shirt dress and black wide-leg trousers, with the flash of colour coming via her green Longchamp Le Smart L tote. The look sits firmly in relaxed arrival territory.

Kate Mara arrived ahead of the premiere of Werner Herzog’s Bucking Fastard, in which she stars alongside her sister Rooney Mara, Orlando Bloom and Domhnall Gleeson.

Her Max Mara Resort 2027 mini feels exactly like the kind of look we would associate with the actress. From the silhouette and length to the graphic print, this is all familiar territory for Kate, completed with Max Mara sunglasses and a Max Mara bag. I’m also glad she ditched the oversized bow from the runway styling. The dress has enough personality without it.

Pre-Festival Arrivals

Amal Clooney was among the first to arrive alongside George Clooney, who will receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement during Wednesday’s opening ceremony.

Considering Amal and Venice have given us some memorable fashion moments over the years, I’m excited to see what she has in store for us this time around.

Amal usually gives us summer hues during a festival that sits right at the tail end of the season, but on this rare occasion she opted for a darker palette in Tom Ford by Haider Ackermann Spring 2027.

The dark moss silk-satin low scoop-neck tank and micro shorts immediately reminded me of the micro shorts Charlize Theron wore during The Odyssey press tour in Paris. The matching blazer kept the look feeling pulled together without taking away from the relaxed arrival mood.

Oversized shades and a grey suede Tom Ford clutch completed her look. Sadly, there are no pictures of her shoes, but knowing Amal’s love for Aquazzura, I wouldn’t be surprised if a pair of the label’s strappy sandals completed the look.

Maggie Gyllenhaal, who is serving as president of the Venezia 83 Competition jury, surprised me by arriving not wearing black.

While Maggie manages to make black varied and interesting, I’m hoping this festival won’t be a total blackout. And this first Celine look is giving me hope.

I am majorly obsessed with the navy jacket, which is made distinctive by that oversized belt. Paired with loose white trousers and white flats, the look feels relaxed enough for an arrival while still having enough personality to make me eager to see where she goes next.

I’m very excited to see what Madame President will bring over the next 11 days. A Celine Le 17 bag completed her look.

Claire Foy arrived ahead of Wednesday’s world premiere of Danny Boyle’s Ink, in which she stars alongside Jack O’Connell and Guy Pearce. The film will officially open the festival.

The British actress surprised us with her exploration of new labels and styles under stylist Jonathan Huguet while promoting H Is for Hawk and Savage House so I’m curious to see whether she continues in that direction or reverts to something more classic for Venice.

Her first look delivered easy elegance courtesy of Bottega Veneta. The Cherry Thong sandals and Knot Aviator sunglasses kept everything looking super chic, with the burgundy Barbara bag adding the one richer note to an otherwise neutral look.

Rather than giving you multiple posts dedicated to arrivals, I’ll be updating this one as more celebrities make their way to Venice in the coming days.

The Sash Lost Me

Colman Domingo is one of the most exciting men on the red carpet, and it’s rare that I’m not totally on board with his looks. But this custom Valentino look, designed by Creative Director Alessandro Michele, loses me with the satin waist sash wrapped over the jacket.

Michele is a maximalist, as we know, but I think the sash does nothing to enhance the look, even though it is colour-coordinated with the painterly-print shirt. The pleated trousers also appear to have created quite a bit of static, which isn’t helping to endear me to this look.

A Slightly Better Representation

Kingston Rumi Southwick’s Valentino Fall 2026 look follows a similar idea to Colman’s, but even though I’m still not sold on the gold waist sash, I think it works better here.

The jacket’s decorative frog closures already give the look a more ornate feel, so the sash feels more connected to the overall styling. I’m still not convinced I would have added it, but I understand it here more than I do on Colman.

Connor Without The Curls

What is it with my faves getting haircuts? First Erling Haaland and now Connor Storrie. The king of the curly-haired boys is no more, and the timing is particularly surprising considering his Saint Laurent campaign has just launched with those curls very much intact.

The actor wore one of Anthony Vaccarello’s Saint Laurent suits in a slightly oversized silhouette, but this feels quite muted by Connor’s standards. And I’m baffled by the trouser length.

Charles Gets It Right

Charles Melton is my favourite here in this black single-breasted velvet Louis Vuitton tuxedo.

As much as I love seeing men step outside the classic tailoring codes, sometimes you simply cannot argue with a beautifully cut tuxedo. The fit and proportions are spot-on, and the velvet jacket gives the look enough distinction without needing anything more.

Classic, But Not Perfect

Noah Wyle wore a custom Brunello Cucinelli double-breasted tuxedo, and while there is absolutely nothing wrong with it, seeing it alongside Charles makes the difference in fit immediately apparent.

It’s classic, appropriate and well put together, but it simply isn’t as sharp as Charles’ Louis Vuitton.

As President of the Jury, and knowing all we know about Maggie’s style, we weren’t expecting anything elaborate. But I have to say, I really enjoyed this Chloé Fall 2025 look.

I love the eggplant hue of the cropped blouse, with the ruffles adding just enough drama to make this feel worthy of the occasion without taking Maggie too far outside her comfort zone.

I also prefer her black trousers to the sheer taupe skirt we saw on the runway. They allow the blouse to remain the focal point and make the look feel much more like Maggie.

The matching eggplant Gianvito Rossi Sofia pumps were another welcome touch, especially when black would have been the obvious choice.

Dior Eyewear DiorGlow A1I flat-top sunglasses, a silver Bvlgari bag and a Bvlgari High Jewelry necklace completed her look.

This is easily one of my favourite looks from Maggie during her time in Venice, alongside her Celine arrival look.

Arrival

Irina arrived in Venice wearing a fitted Alaïa dress styled with a Ferragamo Cara bag and Alaïa mesh shoes, proving that even her off-duty looks come with plenty of sex appeal.

The slate-grey colour may be subdued, but there is nothing understated about the silhouette. This is classic Irina, and an easy introduction to her Venice wardrobe.

Hotel Excelsior Arrival

It may be the final days of summer, but that grey-blue Alaïa dress was the last bit of colour we would see from Irina, as it was trademark black from here on out.

The blackout started with her official arrival at the Hotel Excelsior, where she wore an archival Givenchy Fall 2015 look by Riccardo Tisci. Considering Irina is a longtime friend and muse of the designer, I’m not surprised she went into his Givenchy archive.

I’ll ignore the length of those trousers because that embroidered peplum jacket deserves all the attention. The intricate beading, exaggerated sleeves and sharply defined waist make it easy to see why this piece was worth revisiting more than a decade later.

The Echo Chamber Premiere

After receiving the Filming Italy Venice International Award, which recognises figures who have contributed to the international reach of audiovisual culture and entertainment, Irina attended Alicia Vikander’s The Echo Chamber premiere wearing another archival look, this time from the Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2003 collection.

The dress was originally worn on the runway by Gisele Bündchen and came from a collection that leaned heavily into punk and S&M references, with criss-cross lacing appearing throughout. More than two decades later, the corseted satin and exposed side lacing still read unmistakably Dolce & Gabbana.

And that is what makes this archival pull interesting to me. It doesn’t feel like Irina is trying to revive a forgotten piece; this style of dress is so closely associated with the house that it could almost have been designed for her today.

The opaque stockings, satin pumps and crystal choker push the look even further into Irina’s sultry, dark territory. For me, this is exactly the kind of archival Dolce & Gabbana look that suits Irina, because she has the attitude to sell every inch of it.

L’Estranea Premiere

This evening, Irina returned to the red carpet in another black dress, but the mood was considerably more demure than the previous night.

At least, that is what the front would have you believe.

The asymmetric draping and long sleeves initially make this feel like a complete change of pace after the Dolce & Gabbana dress, until you see that the back is completely open. It’s a clever reveal, and far more interesting than if the entire dress had followed the same covered-up approach.

Four looks in, Irina’s Venice wardrobe has been remarkably consistent: even when she changes the silhouette or dips into the archives, there is always an element of sensuality.

And if there is one thread connecting her Venice wardrobe so far, it is colour. Pamela has moved from coral pink to vivid clementine and wisteria, with each look offering a different take on glamour.

Golden Globes x Aman Beverly Hills Cocktail Party

Oscar de la Renta has become something of a go-to label for Pamela, and this coral-pink cape-effect gown makes it easy to understand why.

The colour is beautiful on her, but it is the cape that sells this for me. Draped across one shoulder and secured with an embellished floral brooch, it gives a relatively simple gown far more presence.

I also love seeing Pamela continue to embrace colour. Since changing her approach to red carpet beauty, her clothes have often done more of the talking, and a shade like this works beautifully with her bare-faced aesthetic.

amfAR Gala Venezia 2026

Pamela turned the colour dial up considerably for the amfAR gala, wearing a custom Calvin Klein Collection clementine satin column dress with a matching floor-length shawl.

This is old Hollywood glamour through and through. Between the liquid satin, column silhouette, shawl and Pamela’s softly waved blonde hair, there is a touch of Veronica Lake about the overall mood.

My only issue is the length. Pamela is offsetting it with that S-shaped pose, but I have a feeling that if she stood completely straight, we would see just how much fabric is pooling at the hem.

Does it lessen the impact for me? Nope. I’m still blown away by this moment. The colour alone makes this a memorable Venice outing.

Hotel Excelsior Arrival

For Ellen Burstyn’s Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement presentation, Pamela switched to wisteria in a Carolina Herrera Resort 2027 cape top and column skirt.

What immediately strikes me is the commitment to the colour story. The cape, skirt and Carolina Herrera Violeta Consuelo leather clutch create three subtly different shades of wisteria, giving the monochromatic look enough variation to keep it interesting.

There is something wonderfully ’60s about this, particularly once the accessories enter the conversation. The tortoiseshell cat-eye sunglasses and cheetah-print pumps could easily have competed with such a soft palette, but instead they inject some personality and stop the look from feeling too precious.

Of the three, the Calvin Klein moment has the biggest impact, but I’m enjoying how Pamela is using colour throughout Venice.

With three strong colour moments already, I can’t wait to see what Pamela has planned for the Place to Be premiere on Wednesday.

Photocall

Alicia wears Louis Vuitton 90% of the time – perhaps even more than that – so her Chloé Resort 2027 look for the photocall was an unexpected switch.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t sold on it. One look at those creases and any chance of me liking this disappeared, and I’m still trying to understand this belt-loop-with-no-belt trend. It keeps appearing, and I’m yet to see what it contributes to a look.

The top and shoes are the saving graces for me, but overall, this wasn’t the LV detour I was hoping for.

Premiere

I was both thankful to see Alicia back in Louis Vuitton for the premiere, because this pastel-green look was dreamy.

The silk bustier fits her impeccably, while the frilled skirt and oversized draped sash lean fully into the romance of the look. And it gets even better in motion, when you can appreciate the fluid layers of the skirt and the soft train trailing behind her.

This is also why Alicia’s long-standing relationship with Louis Vuitton continues to work so well on the red carpet. Her record with the house is almost flawless because she consistently selects pieces that suit her style sensibilities. She never appears to be wearing something simply because she is an ambassador; there is always a clear connection between the design and the understated, feminine elegance she naturally gravitates towards.

This gown is a perfect example. The pastel green is beautiful against her complexion, the silhouette feels romantic without becoming overly sweet, and that immaculate bustier gives all those flowing layers some structure.

Even better, the matching Louis Vuitton sandals were absolutely the right choice. Seeing the shoes revealed through the movement of the skirt only confirms it. I wouldn’t have wanted to see a pump with this dress at all.

Celebrity hairstylist and makeup artist Dimitris Giannetos was behind Amal’s beauty look, using Charlotte Tilbury to create the luminous complexion, softly defined eyes and pink-nude lip that accompanied the gown.

Amal’s skin was prepped with Magic Cream before Dimitris perfected her complexion with AIRbrush Flawless Foundation and AIRbrush Flawless Blur Concealer. Hollywood Contour Wand added definition, while a combination of Unreal Blush Healthy Glow Stick in Pinky Glow and Peachy Glow gave her cheeks that warm flush.

Beauty Light Wand in Spotlight added luminosity, with AIRbrush Flawless Finish Powder and the new AIRbrush Flawless Blur Loose Powder used to complete the base before everything was set with AIRbrush Flawless Setting Spray.

For the eyes, Dimitris worked with the Super Nudes Easy Eye Palette and Exagger-Eyes Easy Eyeshadow Stick in Oyster Twilight, creating the soft brown, subtly shimmering finish we saw on the red carpet. Exagger-Eyes Volume Mascara completed the eye makeup.

The pink-nude lip came courtesy of Lip Cheat Contour Duo in Tan and Hot Lips 2 in Dancefloor Princess.

What I like most is that the makeup complements the change of pace we saw from Amal that evening. With her black Tom Ford gown already departing from the lighter colours she usually favours in Venice, there was no need to take the beauty look somewhere unexpected too.

The warm complexion, soft eye makeup and pink lip felt unmistakably Amal, and Dimitris Giannetos, who works with Amal often, knew exactly how much was needed to complete the look.

Kinéo Award Ceremony

Nicola Peltz Beckham received the Rising Star Award at the ceremony, marking the occasion in a Balenciaga Fall 2026 Haute Couture gown that gives me serious Dune vibes.

The saturated purple alone is spectacular, but I love how the sculpted corset, cut-outs and asymmetric draping give way to that enormous skirt and train. This is a lot of gown, yet Nicola carries it beautifully. She tends to favour understated or tailored looks, so I love that she went big and bold for such a landmark moment.

Primetime Premiere

Suki Waterhouse wore the same Saint Laurent Pre-Fall 2026 look we saw on Dana Delany on Friday night, and this just confirms to me that I much prefer this design in burgundy. This pale lace version feels much more muted and duller by comparison. I even prefer Natalia Dyer’s copper version. Actually, maybe the lighting is holding this look back, because I believe Suki is wearing the same pale green colour we saw on Daisy Edgar-Jones, yet it looks considerably duller here.

I can’t say that I love this McQueen Fall 2026 grey sheer gown on Phoebe Bridgers, but it does suit her alternative, slightly gothic style. Between the exposed lingerie, lace panels and trailing hem, this feels entirely believable on Phoebe, even if the dress itself isn’t winning me over.

Succederà Questa Notte Premiere

Emilia Schüle’s Dior Resort 2027 dress reminds me of Michelle Yeoh’s Schiaparelli Haute Couture 2023 SAG Awards dress, in that it looks like the contents of a shredder. There is certainly plenty of texture here, but all those strips of fabric hanging from the dress make it difficult for me to see beyond that comparison.

Kasia Smutniak opted for an Armani black suit and white tie, which made for a welcome change of pace among the gowns. I love how consistently she delivers on this red carpet every year. This is classic Armani with a smouldering edge, while Garatti jewels completed her look.

Greta Scarano wore a Fendi Resort 2027 look featuring the distinctive gold collar and cuffs we first saw on celebrities at the Fall 2026 Couture front row. My question is: why the trousers? It looks as though the embellished dress would have been too sheer without them, but the added layer makes the whole look feel heavier than it needed to be.

Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger Premiere

Prada’s obsession with pink satin needs to be studied. Benedetta Porcaroli wore this custom Prada look, which sits outside the column dresses we usually see from the house, but once again, I’m baffled by the fit of the top half.

It looks a size too big for her. I like the idea of the mini skirt with the apron-like panel, but I can’t get past how loosely the top sits on her frame. The concept is there; the fit needed another pass.

Photocall

This is Dior suit is exactly the kind of relaxed tailoring that works for a Venice photocall. The open collar and slightly rumpled shirt keep the beige suit casual, while the black Dior denim sneakers make sense in this setting.

Premiere

With summer on his mind, the actor opted for a Dior Spring 2027 white pinstriped double-breasted suit.

This should have been the moment. I love that Robert went with a lighter suit, not only because he went against the black-tie grain, but also because this is likely to be one of the last summery suits we see on the red carpet as we head into the final days of summer.

However, the styling dulls my enthusiasm. The Dior logo-striped tie takes the look in a more collegiate direction compared to the cleaner styling we saw on the runway. That is not to say Robert should have gone shirtless, but the tie feels at odds with the suit for me.

I can’t say I like the footwear either. The suit itself had everything it needed to be one of my favourite menswear looks from Venice, but the styling stops it from getting there.

This Tom Ford by Haider Ackermann Spring 2026 mini dress may be a different silhouette for Emma, but the black lace and leather combination has the unapologetic edge they often lean into. The exposed lingerie and sheer lace make this provocative, while the leather skirt gives the look a tougher finish that feels right for them.

If the dress feels familiar, that is because we saw a blue-and-black satin version on Anya Taylor-Joy back in July while she was promoting Lucky in London.

Between the two, Emma’s all-black version feels much more suited to their aesthetic, although Anya has also worn a longer, sheerer all-black version of this dress for the Marrakech Film Festival closing ceremony.

I can’t help but feel that, considering her newfound love for the label, this would have been a great dress for Charlize Theron.

15/18 A Place To Heal Premiere

While this Balenciaga taffeta gown is very on-brand for Maggie Gyllenhaal, I’m kind of underwhelmed by it. I knew her red carpet looks were going to be predominantly black, but I was hoping she would give me something to be excited about.

This isn’t bad per se, and the asymmetric neckline and exaggerated volume certainly give it presence, but it is a bit forgettable. Considering how much I have enjoyed some of Maggie’s looks away from the red carpet this week, I’m still waiting for one of her premiere gowns to really excite me.

Mr. Nelson, Did You Kill People? Premiere

Bhavitha Mandava was my favourite in this Chanel Resort 2027 dress, covered in intricate blue, green and iridescent embellishments that create an almost aquatic texture across the surface. She looked like a beautiful mermaid, with the dress appearing to shift between turquoise, aqua and silver as it caught the light.

The Chanel ambassador completed her look with statement Chanel earrings and silver Aquazzura So Nude sandals, which I much prefer to the barefoot sandals we saw on the runway.

Marina Ruy Barbosa wore a custom Miss Sohee pearl and chiffon gown inspired by the Spring 2024 collection, which was originally presented in blue on the runway. You may also remember that Lisa wore a yellow-and-white version during her press tour for The White Lotus Season 3.

There is such an ethereal quality to Marina’s version. Between the pearl-encrusted corsetry, the flowing chiffon and her Rapunzel-like hair, she looks as though she has stepped straight out of a storybook.

And considering her Intimissimi look from the previous premiere, this is a complete 180. My head is in a tailspin trying to keep up with Marina’s Venice wardrobe.

The Basics of Philosophy Premiere

Leading lady Sofia Boutella celebrated the world premiere in this Stella McCartney Pre-Fall 2026 dress. Sadly, the dress failed to rise to the occasion. The draped neckline is beautiful, but the creases dulled my enthusiasm for such a major moment.

We have seen this Saint Laurent Pre-Fall 2026 ribbon-accented lace top and skirt a few times now, but this rich burgundy version gives the look a new lease of life on Dana Delany. The colour makes a considerable difference, especially with the gold lace detailing. The matching burgundy shoes help sell this look to me.

Geena Davis was oozing old-school Hollywood glamour in this black Elie Saab gown. The sequins, classic silhouette and diamond jewellery make this exactly the kind of red carpet glamour I want from someone like Geena. There was no need to reinvent the wheel here.

Maria Borges opted for classic black and white. The simplicity of the look provides the perfect canvas for her stunning Crivelli necklace. Aquazzura Tell Me sandals completed her look.

If this Robert Wun Spring 2026 Couture creation looks familiar, there is a reason. Ariana Grande wore a custom version of the butterfly gown for Wicked: One Wonderful Night back in November 2025, reimagined in blush pink with a strapless neckline to suit Glinda.

There is something wonderfully whimsical about this gown, and with Liza starring in DreamWorks Animation’s Forgotten Island, out this month, the fairytale quality feels especially fitting for this moment in her career.

Ariana’s dress was worn for a performance, so the butterfly earrings made sense for her Glinda moment. Liza was right to leave them out. With butterflies already scattered across the gown and sheer gloves, she really didn’t need more around her face.

Liza also wore the wide-brimmed butterfly hat from the runway for these portraits, and I’m glad we got to see the complete look, even if she wisely left the hat behind for the red carpet. It takes the whimsy to another level and works beautifully in this more editorial setting.

The close-up also gives us a much better appreciation of the gown. What initially reads as a flurry of butterflies reveals so much more detail, particularly the corset-style lacing through the bodice and the way the butterflies appear to have landed across the dress and gloves.

And then there is the back, which makes the construction every bit as impressive. These images have made me appreciate this Robert Wun creation even more.

That aside, this is quite the way to make a Venice Film Festival debut. Liza chose a memorable couture look and absolutely did it justice.

Mr. Nelson, Did You Kill People? Premiere

For the Mr. Nelson, Did You Kill People? premiere, Marion Cotillard wore a Chanel Fall 2026 Haute Couture look featuring two layered bustiers – one in black wool and the other in white satin crepe – over black trousers.

I have absolutely no issue with the muted look, even with the addition of Chanel High Jewelry. The Plume de Chanel necklace, inspired by the feather motif from Gabrielle Chanel’s 1932 Bijoux de Diamants collection, give the event some glamour.

My issue is entirely with the fit. I don’t find the bustier particularly flattering on Marion, and the trousers are far too long. On the runway, the proportions were much sharper, and that difference is hard to ignore here.

Biennale College Cinema Photocall

Earlier today, she was dressed in Chanel again, this time opting for an ecru denim overshirt and matching wide-leg jeans.

I much prefer this to the premiere look. As someone who isn’t usually a fan of Chanel footwear, I love how the burgundy pumps pick up the contrast stitching and leather cuffs on the jacket. It’s a small detail, but it makes the entire look feel cohesive.

A Chanel Première Galon watch and Chanel Fine Jewelry from the Coco Crush collection completed her look.

Both wore Dior, but their looks could not have been more different.

The Dior Woman

While we do tend to struggle with some of Jennifer Lawrence’s choices in Jonathan Anderson’s Dior, with the Die My Love Rome Film Festival premiere serving as an example, this suit is endlessly chic.

Some might feel it is very Monica Bellucci-coded, but I would not regard that as a bad thing. Between the sculpted jacket and wide-leg trousers, this is the epitome of a Dior woman, and Jennifer wears it effortlessly.

A Dior Cigale bag and pointed pumps completed her look.

Black & White Blooms

Priyanka Chopra went in a completely different direction in her Dior Resort 2027 black pleated tulle dress, adorned with delicate white tulle flowers, which we previously saw in yellow on Sabrina Carpenter.

For this event, I feel the more understated black-and-white version was the right choice, however, I’m not sold on the Dior shoes. I would have preferred them without the oversized C and D hardware, which feels unnecessarily loud against such a beautiful dress.

Between Festival Duties

Matilda De Angelis, who is at the festival to promote her new film, Balcanica, wore Bottega Veneta, and I love how this feels smart without being overly formal.

The Bottega Veneta sunglasses and silver brooch at the collar are cool. However, I am on the fence about the yellow Baby Veneta bag, only because it feels at odds with the burgundy Sofia pumps. One says spring, the other says autumn. For me, it was a case of either/or, but not both.

Jury President Style

I’m becoming far more enamoured with Maggie Gyllenhaal’s looks around the festival than I am with her red carpet style.

This Jil Sander by Simone Bellotti Fall 2026 look is a perfect example. There is nothing complicated about it, yet the layering, proportions and mix of navy, beige and pale blue make it interesting. Then there are the olive-green Jil Sander Kante bag and matching shoes, which are easily my favourite part, as they are such a gorgeous trans-seasonal hue.

Ray-Ban sunglasses completed her look.

Polka Dots & Roses

Laura Dern kept things decidedly more relaxed in this Stella McCartney polka-dot dress.

I love the burgundy hue and the breezy silhouette. We don’t often see this kind of easy, feminine daytime style from Laura, and as someone who frequently struggles with her red carpet looks, I found this so refreshing.

The Roger Vivier Rose Vivier ballerinas are such a fun addition, with the bright pink roses giving the burgundy look an unexpected pop of colour.

F1 Italian Grand Prix Press Day

Considering Monza is the home of Ferrari, Lewis Hamilton was always going to make his arrival count.

The driver wore a Saint Laurent Fall 2026 black pinstripe suit, and I love the proportions here. We all know how much Lewis loves an oversized silhouette, sometimes to comical proportions, but the strong shoulders and wide-leg trousers give the classic shirt-and-tie combination a more contemporary feel, while the Kangol hat adds that signature Lewis touch.

Saint Laurent Stanton shoes, Renato Cipullo’s Beryl Topiary ring and Briony Raymond Slim Sloan hoop earrings completed his look.

Pressure London Premiere

I didn’t realise how much I missed Andrew Scott on the red carpet until he returned for the Pressure London premiere, bringing his love of colour with him in Giuliva Heritage, pairing his navy suit with a coral-red shirt.

This is exactly why I enjoy Andrew’s approach to tailoring, as his colour combinations are always unexpected but incredibly well judged. Navy and coral-red shouldn’t feel particularly adventurous, but it immediately stands out. Jimmy Choo Wilder loafers completed his look.

The Uprising LA Premiere

Andrew Garfield joined his co-star Katherine Waterston at The Uprising Los Angeles premiere.

While Anthony Vaccarello has menswear in something of a striped suit, shirt and tie chokehold, Andrew’s suit is from Loro Piana.

After a summer of lighter fabrics and tieless options, Andrew is back to business – quite literally – in this Wall Street-inspired suit. Between the pinstripes, striped shirt and burgundy tie, this is considerably more corporate than we are used to seeing from him, but he wears it incredibly well. Doucal’s shoes and a Cartier watch completed his look.

And the reason I didn’t recognise her at first when I was working on her Chanel premiere look is because she looks completely different in this Chanel Resort 2027 ensemble.

Even with the minor issue I had with the premiere look, what I loved about it was how youthful it felt. It had rising-star energy.

As chic as this black-and-white Chanel look is for the photocall, I feel that it ages her. I would like to point to one element – the jacket or the shoes – but it is very much a collective effort.

But then I Googled her age and discovered she is 35, not the twenty-something I assumed she was, so perhaps my perception is the issue rather than the clothes themselves.

Arrival

As we know, underwear is outerwear at this festival, so you won’t be surprised to see the Argentine-Spanish model draping her Intimissimi brown silk shirt over the brand’s Pretty Flowers Sofia balconette bra.

She paired them with Giambattista Valli high-waisted white jeans, and I can’t help thinking the chocolate brown and white palette was inspired by her Hermès Himalayan Birkin.

Celine sunglasses, nude Le Silla pumps and Pasquale Bruni jewels completing her look.

It’s casual, but still unmistakably Georgina.

Hotel Excelsior Arrival

The next day, the mood had completely changed, with Georgina Rodríguez wearing a Gucci Primavera light beige dress.

The pussy-bow neckline, long sleeves, cinched waist and pleated midi skirt present a much demurer side to Georgina than we are used to seeing. It’s not a silhouette I would have predicted for her, but it has the same sense of formality that I got from her wedding look.

Gucci Donna black leather pumps and sunglasses, along with Pasquale Bruni jewels, completed her look.

Mr. Nelson, Did You Kill People? Premiere

Last night, Georgina wore Gucci again, and even with the plunging neckline, this navy skirt suit still feels remarkably restrained by her standards.

With two appearances that have shown us a much demurer side, we have to wonder whether this is the new Georgina – or should I say, the new Mrs Ronaldo.

It’s not what I expected from her, especially at Venice, but you can’t deny that this is an impeccably well-tailored suit, and she looks good in it. Still, it has me wondering: how many unapologetic bombshells do we now have left? Sydney Sweeney – when she gets it right – might be the only one holding the fort.

The barrister was back in summery colours following her all-black Tom Ford look on opening night, wearing a Stella McCartney raspberry-print dress.

Between the off-the-shoulder neckline, softly draped silhouette and playful raspberry print, this is exactly the kind of summer styling I love seeing from Amal. The Aquazzura Amore mules were the perfect choice, keeping the look light while complementing the soft tones of the dress.

After the drama of opening night, I love seeing Amal switch effortlessly back into her signature summer style.

Black-Tie Contrast

It has been a quiet summer for Colman Domingo, but he continues to be one of the men I look forward to seeing most, and this Brunello Cucinelli look shows why. As you know, ivory and white isn’t always my favourite combination, but with the black trousers providing a sleek contrast, what’s not to love?

Leather After Dark

There is an ease to Juliette Binoche in Brunello Cucinelli that I really like here. Some might find that the leather blazer relaxes the formality, but I feel that it gives the all-black look its focal point and prevents it from feeling too basic.

Borrowed From The Boys

Charlotte Le Bon often embraces a menswear mood, and in Brunello Cucinelli, this might be her best interpretation yet. The undone bow tie is the detail that gives the look its character. Add the tinted glasses and this feels smart without becoming predictable, and so natural to her.

Sequins Meet Shirting

I love the contrast Cindy Bruna created with her Brunello Cucinelli look. A sheer white shirt and sequin-drenched oversized trousers shouldn’t necessarily feel like natural partners, yet that is exactly what makes the combination interesting. The relaxed shape of the shirt offsets the glamour of the trousers, making sequins feel entirely appropriate for an intimate dinner rather than a red carpet.

Back To Black

Bianca Balti kept things sleek in all-black Brunello Cucinelli. The plunging black blouse, choker and smoky eye add to the after-dark mood. It is simple and sexy.

A Tale Of Two Tuxedos

Vincent Cassel joined Brunello Cucinelli himself, giving us two different approaches to evening tailoring. Vincent’s blue double-breasted suit and open-neck white shirt feel more relaxed, while Brunello’s grey double-breasted jacket, bow tie and white trousers lean into traditional black-tie codes with a lighter touch. Side by side, they make a compelling case for not defaulting to an all-black tuxedo.

The actress has a penchant for minimalism, so seeing her in Prada comes as no surprise. What does feel unexpected is the colour, as black is usually her go-to, but the contrast between the ivory dress and black trousers proves that she doesn’t need to stray too far from her signature to give us something different.

I love the construction of this dress. The long, clean lines are interrupted by the slit, revealing the black trousers underneath and creating a sharp contrast that becomes the defining feature of the look. It also keeps all that ivory from feeling too ceremonial.

When you have such a recognisable style, it’s good to switch things up from time to time, even if it’s only by a small degree. Katherine Waterston did exactly that here.

Chocolate Season

Seeing Orlando Bloom in this Zegna dark brown tuxedo reminds me how much I have missed brown tailoring. With summer drawing to a close, the colour already feels right for the months ahead, while the floral brooch give the classic tuxedo a little more personality. I also like the wider trousers here, especially with the strong satin lapels balancing out the proportions.

Tonal Shift

Then I saw Domhnall Gleeson, also in Zegna, opting for a dark brown tuxedo, and it is amazing how the tonal approach and narrower trousers give his look a completely different character from Orlando’s. I love how sleek this feels from head to toe.

Modern Minimalism

I usually look out for actors and actresses on the red carpet, but director Martin McDonagh instantly caught my attention in this clean and simple Celine all-black suit. Despite all the traditional elements, the tailoring presents a modern silhouette. This is easily one of my favourite menswear looks from the festival so far.

Relaxed Black Tie

Sam Rockwell took a more relaxed approach to his tailoring in Zegna, pairing his double-breasted black suit with an open-collar white shirt, sunglasses and a brooch.

She appears to have surprised the photographer as well, as there weren’t any full-length pictures of the actress. Naturally, I went digging, and my search was fruitful because Nicole opted to wear a pair of red pumps with her Erdem Resort 2027 ivory satin-and-lace floral-embroidered dress.

And I’m glad I found the full look, because those red pumps make such a difference. They pick up the red embroidery beautifully.

You weren’t 100% sold on Sandra Bullock’s look from this collection, but I have a feeling you’ll find this one will be so much more appealing.

The draped satin creates a flattering silhouette, while the lace panels and floral embroidery give the dress the romantic quality we’ve come to expect from Erdem.

Flowers are, of course, central to the world of Practical Magic. Sally and Gillian Owens grew up in a house surrounded by a magical garden, with herbs, plants and flowers tied to the family’s spells and potions. So it makes sense that florals have been woven into the visual language of this press tour, from the event backdrops to the clothes themselves.

That makes Erdem a natural choice for Nicole Kidman here. Xolo Maridueña was the first to make flowers a recurring feature of his wardrobe throughout the tour.

It was a bit of a rough start in the hair department in London, but since Nicole reunited with her usual hairstylist, who knows exactly what works for her, her tresses are back to their glorious best.
