If you talk to a scientist, you’ll hear that meeting someone is just a matter of numbers.  If you can raise your exposure to a greater number of potential candidates, then you raise the likelihood of cupid’s arrow hitting the mark. Well, most single people I know are surrounded by thousands of people everyday at the grocery store, at the office, in airports, at the gym, etc., etc., but they haven’t met the person that pulls their heartstrings. 

Maybe you have tried singles mixers, speed dating at the local sports pub, or even resorted to having your friends set you up with eligible singles. And what if all that turns up zero?  Then maybe it’s time to see if your house, your office, or your business could be undermining your efforts to gain a suitable partner in love.  

So, what exactly are the key elements for singles to look for when determining if the energy of their space is killing their romantic prospects?  You are about to find out.  Now, get ready to make a serious assessment of your space to open your life to a new love!

1.  Is a “man” or a “woman” missing in your life?

You could be without a special someone because you are missing a NW or SW corner in your home! Every space must have a NW and a SW corner.  These are the cornerstones of a space, and in feng shui thought, the two most important sectors.  The NW corresponds to a man and the SW corresponds to a woman.  So, if you are a single woman, you need to activate your NW sector, or a single man, the SW sector.  By the same token, both single men and women need to activate the SW sector because it is also the sector of marriage, romance, and relationships.If your NW or SW corners of your house are missing, or you have a toilet, kitchen, storeroom, etc., then you begin to see what the problem is.  How do you correct this?  If you are extremely serious about finding someone, then moving might be an option.  However, less drastic measures are also available.  Use these tips to guide you.

•If the NW or SW corner is missing: Place a mirror on the wall where the NW corner should be so that it visually expands.  Outside, where the missing corner is, try to delineate this space with a light pole, a heavy rock or object, or create a fenced area or garden to put back this missing area.

•If the NW/SW corner has a toilet:  Make sure this room has a mirror in it.  Keep the door closed.  You can also try the following remedies of placing a heavy rock in the NW toilet, and candles and red objects in the SW toilet.  

•If the NW/SW has a kitchen:  In the NW, this is a very bad placement.  Kitchens in the NW are not good.  You can try to add stones here, such as geodes, or whatever stones strike your fancy.  You can also paint this room a beige color.  This will help strengthen the NW energy with the earth element of the beige color. Avoid water or fire elements in the NW kitchen as these hurt the precious NW energy.  In the SW, add pairs of objects here, such as setting a place for two at the table, even if there is only one dining!  You can also had a stone object here or paint the kitchen beige to add more “earth” energy.

2.  Tap your personal marriage and romance direction.

Orient the bed or sleep with your head pointing in your marriage and family direction based on your kua number.  Move your desk to face this direction (although, you should make sure you do not ever have your back to the door).  Eat facing this direction, and enter doors from this direction.

Here are the orientations for both men and women:

Besides using the doors according to your kua number, sitting, eating, and sleeping, you will also want to energize the corresponding areas in your living room.

3.  Fake it until you make it.

Make your bedroom appear as if a couple lived in it.  So be sure to decorate it in a gender-neutral manner (no fussy flowers and pastels or severely masculine rooms).  Make sure there are pairs of lamps (one on either side of the bed), and pairs of objects in the bedroom.

Put lots of romantic images in here!  Display pictures or figurines that say romance to you.  Pictures of couples kissing, holding hands, anything to “inspire” your loving feelings.  

Some people intentionally remove any pictures of romance because they don’t want to be reminded that they are lonely.  Wrong.  You need to be reminded and inspired because it will work to activate you more to seek out a new partner.

4.  Activate the “man” and “woman” in your space.

You should activate your home, your bedroom, your garden, your desk, and your office, and any other space you occupy to increase the influence of the NW and SW energies.

FOR WOMEN ONLY:

To activate the “MAN” area (NW) in your space:

Desk:  Put a phone or fax here, add a radio, or put the computer on this corner of your desk, place a picture of a handsome man here, or add a moving metal sculpture; (metal pendulum clocks are great).

Home/Living Room:  Put your television or stereo in the NW sector (unless it is the bedroom).  Or, you can put manly objects in this area if it is your bedroom.  Objects such as books a man might read (or your ideal man would read!), the sports page, or a picture of a handsome man (or men? Chippendale’s calendar, maybe?) in this location is good.  

Bedroom:  A CD player with romantic music that you listen to nightly would be wonderful in a NW corner of the bedroom.

Yard: Place a shepherd’s hook here and hang a windchime on it.  Anything metal would be excellent here.  

Office:  Gold windchime with a fan gently blowing to make it tinkle softly.  This is also a good idea in the living room.

FOR WOMEN AND MEN:

Remember, both women and men want to activate the SW corner of their homes, bedrooms, living rooms, offices, and desks!  That’s because the SW corresponds to romance, marriage — and women.

To activate the “WOMAN” and “ROMANCE” area (SW) in your space try these ideas:

Desk:  Place a beautiful stone (such as rose quartz) or a beautiful vase in the SW corner of your desk.  You can make a copy of the double happiness symbol and place it on this corner; it’s believed to make married men out of confirmed bachelors.  

Add red items in this location, crystal objects (a crystal pendulum clock would be wonderful here!), or red crystal paperweight is also a perfect addition.  You will also want to place a copy of the “Double Happiness” symbol here.

Home/Living Room:  Make sure the SW sectors of your home and living room have love objects appropriate to the SW corner. This can be a terracotta or porcelain vase, candles, picture of a mountain, such as Ayers Rock, would be especially auspicious.  

Bedroom: A CD player with romantic music that you listen to nightly would be wonderful in a SW corner of the bedroom.  Place a lamp in this corner and make sure it stays on at least 3 hours a day.  Better still, keep it on the entire day while you are out!

Yard:  Place a large boulder or group of boulders here.  Or, place a cement bench in this location.  You may also wish to put a statue of a couple in this location, or plant some red or pink flowers here.

Office: Add a picture here of a mountain (provided it is not directly in front of you), or some other romantic scene that is tasteful.  A lamp in this location is also a good idea.

5.  Eliminate the old to bring in the new.

If you have pictures of old boyfriends and girlfriends hanging around, then they’re still there!  Get rid of the pictures and mementos.  Make sure that you have new sheets, too, to sleep on.

Old energy can linger in the bed as well.  One single woman I knew (she was divorced) had pictures of her ex everywhere and wondered why her love life was poor.  What man wants to compete with a former boyfriend – or worse, an ex-husband.

6.  Employ some “magic.”

Some feng shui stems from Chinese folklore and superstition.  But if it helps you draw Mr. or Ms. Right, who cares, right?

•  Rainbows for love. Hang a crystal in the SW windows.  Then, let the sun’s rays shine on the crystal to create rainbows in the SW sector of your house for extra romantic energy in your space.

•  Use a magic box. This is said to draw a spouse to you. Purchase a silver box, either round or square shaped.  Write your deepest desires for a spouse on a piece of paper.  Place this box in the SW or NW corner of the house, in a cupboard or out of sight.  A square box should be placed in the SW and a round box in the NW.

In China, the color red has many meanings, but the first is happiness. The bride in a wedding ceremony has always traditionally worn a red veil that was only lifted once the bride and groom were at the ceremony, never seeing each other until the wedding. That tradition continues today even though modern brides now know their intended before the ceremony.

The element of fire has been associated with the phoenix and is associated with both of fire’s destructive and life-giving and cleansing properties. The phoenix is the bird that promised success and longevity.

When a friend lets you down, the feeling of shock and disappointment can be hard to bounce back from. Even the green-eyed monster of jealousy can make you feel vulnerable and disillusioned.

In many countries the envy and jealousy of another is called the “evil eye.” This type of attention is believed to draw energy from you and to encircle you with negative energy that can cause you loss.

The dragon is a mythical and much beloved symbol in China. The powerful dragon can be seen adorning everything from walls and sculptures to chopsticks and fabrics. A dragon is one of the earliest symbols of male, yang, energy and fertility.

The friendly dragon

Unlike the fearsome creatures of western literature, Chinesedragons are endearing and good-natured rather than ferocious or threatening. They’re also a symbol of great power and were often used to symbolically represent the emperors.

With the dragon sitting at the east in the zodiac wheel, it is associated with sunrise, the period between spring and summer when rains are most abundant and with growth, fertility and growth.

Yin and yang

The dragon is many times portrayed chasing the cosmic pearl. This pearl represents the feminine and thunder, which brings rains. Dragons are beautiful symbols of new growth, vitality, and are believed to bring strong regenerative powers. Although the earliest symbol of dragons were shown with the white tiger of the west, which represented yin, or female energy, the dragon is typically shown with a phoenix to represent masculine and feminine energies, or the conjugal state.

Dragon family members

The dragon also has a wide family circle. In addition to the standard dragon, there are also dragon tortoises (a favorite of businessmen and those who like making money!), a hybrid of the dragon and tortoise. This animal possesses all the strengths of the dragon and represents imminent news regarding career and business. They are often portrayed with a baby on their backs to represent descendant’s luck. Place behind you at work for great support or in the east, but not directly in front of you.

The pi yao is another dragon family member. As the ninth son of a dragon, this fearsome creature possesses the strength of the Asian dragons and the ferociousness of the western dragon. The Pi Yao is a protective heavenly creature. He is often mistaken for a fu dog or chi lin, but he has a specific role in Chinese symbolism and feng shui.

With his single horn, lion face, wings and tail, the pi yao is designed to protect wealth. This makes him a favorite symbol of businessmen and merchants. The pi yao also subdues the Grand Duke and should be positioned to face him. To protect wealth, the pi yao swallows wealth and never expels it, thus he is the protector of accumulated wealth and brings windfall luck, driving away evil and protecting the home and its owner.

The number nine and dragons?

Yes, dragons are represented by the ultimate power of 3, which is 3 squared, or shown as multiplication 3×3=9. There are many types of dragons and are often represented with the number 9, a symbol of male vigor and fertility. Longans, a type of pinkish-red fruit, are said to be a dragon’s eyes. The term in Chinese for dragon is long. A section of Hong Kong, called Kowloon, means town of the nine dragons. Each of the nine dragons brings a different type of energy and luck.

Empowering your home

In feng shui, it’s important to include the dragon as part of your observance. Displaying a dragon, especially in the east, will energize the house and the family, bringing strength and vitality to everyone who resides there. The dragon is a widely recognized symbol of both success and protection.

The dragon’s image inspires radiant health, financial abundance, longevity and empowers the entire household, and in particular, the male members and patriarch of the family. Display the dragon and his other family members in your home to give you growth, vitality and success (dragon), good news about business and career opportunities (dragon tortoise) and to protect your assets and watch over your wealth, display a pi yao.

It’s going to be a much better year than it was when the rabbit was the sign of the year. This should be a year when you see advancement with work and more prestige. Nice to hear for a change, isn’t it? Make sure you take advantage of the year ahead and tackle those items you’ve needed to work on for a while – like your health (maybe you’re just pecking at the wrong kind of food, or at getting regular exercise), or maybe it’s putting your nose down to the ground all the time.

Did you know you can actually be more effective if you take a vacation? When you’re rested fully you can work even faster and harder. Why not hit the beach this year? You’ll find that the water will restore your energy. The really great news is that someone will contact you out of the blue with an offer, maybe a business proposal, or you’ll get some incredible public relations help. That’s what kind of year this will be – lots of help and opportunity coming out of the clear blue sky. But that’s where dragons live, so it makes sense. And money? The Year of the Dragon is a chance to start over and see real improvement in our lives. After the past few years of economic challenges, it’s nice to hear there is a ray of hope on the horizon. And it’s not just a sliver of light either. It’s like a giant comet streaking across the sky trailing sparkling crystals that glitter against the night sky. That comet in your mind’s eye? It’s a dragon, a cosmic creature that is associated with heaven, the sky and all the celestial realms. 

With our heads looking at the ground and noses to the grindstone for the past few years, it’s hard to imagine that looking up the view will get any better. But it does, I’m happy to tell you. Of course, we have bumps in the road of 2012, but that’s to be expected. The better news is that the reigning star is a type of energy that bestows heavenly assistance from others.

The year reminds me of the old joke about the man in the house that gets a knock on the door and it’s the police telling him that a flood is coming and he needs to get out right away. But he tells the policeman that God will take care of him. A little while later a fireman comes to the house and urges him to leave before the water overtakes his home and the man tells the fireman that God will take care of him. Finally, the man is on top of the roof and a helicopter is lowering a ladder to let the drowning man climb up and instead he says God will take care of him. When the man goes to heaven he asks God why he didn’t save him and God tells him, “Who do you think sent the policeman, fireman, and the helicopter?”

This is the situation we are in for 2012.

There is heavenly energy and there will be people who will come to your aid – from near and far. The question is: will you reject them or will you accept their assistance? The problem is often not about not getting something we want, the problem is that we often stand in the way of receiving.  We get in our own way even when someone is trying to help us. Vow to yourself that you will not only accept help, you’ll offer it, too, in the year ahead.

One of the best descriptions of this year’s energy actually comes in a book by a good friend of mine, Marc Sachnoff. He has written this very simple tale about how to get what you want in life easily and effortlessly and it’s called The Gift. But that’s the gist: you’ve got to receive to give and you’ve got to give to receive. But what’s important is the order. Many givers are bad receivers. This is especially true of women. We’re natural-born pleasers. Many women have the disease to please and it shuts them off from receiving. It sounds counterintuitive, but The Gift explains this clearly. Work more on being a gracious, open receiver.

Money

In 2012, money takes a hit. Investments and accumulated wealth hosts the Five Yellow. This is a time to get your financial house in order. If you don’t regularly check on your portfolio, investments, bank statements and taxes, it will come back to bite you. The southeast wealth corner is a wood sector, so it will help to dampen the effects, but if you don’t take precautions, it could cost you a lot.

This is also the corner that relates to the oldest daughter. Teen girls need to be careful this year. If your house faces southeast or your sleep in the southeast or work in the southeast sector, you’re under a stronger influence. Keep tabs on your health and don’t engage in risky activities like parachute jumping. If you rollerblade, wear pads.

But remember, wealth is just one kind of money. There’s accumulated money (southeast wealth sector) and generating money (north sector). There’s also opportunity money. I’ll explain more in a moment. In the sector of generating income, which relates to the north career sector, the news isn’t good either. It’s hosting the Black 2 illness star this year. That means that income could be affected by illness and there are financial implications too.

It also could very likely mean there will be limitations placed on your career. Think of the Black 2 as a giant boulder in the middle of the road. It doesn’t stop you from going where you need to go, it just might delay you or cause you to find a detour. That’s what could happen with careers. You think you’re headed in one direction and you take a sharp turn in another direction. And that’s not always a bad thing. In fact, it’s often a good thing in disguise.

The Black 2 presence could also mean limitations on income, such as commissions, bonuses and payments. You may find that you don’t get a raise this year or take a cutback of some type. These are just some of the possibilities of scenarios, but I did promise you some good news.

Directly opposite the north Black 2 star position is the White 1 star. Think of this as two giant titans squaring off because these are the elements of water and big earth – mountains and ocean. Who would win?  I bet on the water every time. What this White 1 star means is that your friends, literally and figuratively, have your back next year. Not only that, but there’s a good chance there could be a glittering opportunity that comes directly from a friend. Don’t dismiss your friends this year; they might just be offering you a gold mine for a little digging.

Look for ways to grow through people you know – that’s the networking vs. not working concept.

Relationships

Here’s the other shoe dropping for 2012: relationships. The 3 Jade star is headed to the southwest sector of women, relationships and love. If you’re crankier, more tired and snippier than usual this year, then you know why. Big Wood (men) is visiting Big Earth (women) and it’s the feng shui fight equivalent to Mothra vs. Godzilla. I’ll let you decide who is who. But what I can tell you is that if you had relationship problems last year with small wood visiting, this is the year it all comes to a head. If you were working through problems last year, and many of you were, this could be the year when you call it quits.

Is that what you want to do? If not, and you want to work on your relationship, get counseling and seek out help. Or, make the call and end the relationship. Either way, make a move. The 3 star causes fighting and arguments. For women, it also causes crushing fatigue and exhaustion and will create problems with the stomach region such as digestion and the female-famous gallbladder problems.

Make sure you take vitamins, eat right, get some sunshine and exercise and plan for down time. I talk about this every year but it’s truer than ever.  On the plus, side the three star could cause you to stretch and grow …and remember when you were a kid, the pains in your legs and arms when you were growing? It will be uncomfortable at times this year, but if things are moving head, just know that it’s “growing pains.”

For both men and women, red is the color of the year.

Men are hosting the 7 Red star and it causes deception and fraud, potentially violence. Men should be wary of credit card fraud, deceptive people, particularly men who live far away from them. Business proposals should be tightly written and reviewed by a lawyer. Women should also be on the lookout for “Mr. Smooth Talker” too. Get background checks and play it safe!

Who has the best energies this year?

In the list of all the directions, the east and west facing houses have the very best energies with a beautiful array of energies running from front to back in their homes. This is fabulous news, especially after last year! Better still? Houses whose front doors open in the center sector of the house. You’re in for some amazing news – like windfalls, heavenly people coming to assist you, and beautiful surprises. Careful not to overwork, though. South facing houses have difficulties because of the 3 Killings energies at the front (but the 1 star helps this) and the Black 2 at the back door.

These houses should be careful and keep the back portion of the house quiet. The southwest and northeast houses will fare alright in 2012, but the southeast and northwest houses need to take precautions. The Chart of the Annual Energies explains how to handle the 5 Yellow and Grand Duke Jupiter (at the Southeast houses) and the Red 7 Star (at the Northwest houses). But stones and crystals can be used to manifest more than just marriage. Used in your life, gems bring precious earth energy to your goals and dearest wishes!

I recommend you find one beautiful stone and make a single wish with great focus and intention. You can buy a rose quartz heart, or a small or medium Uruguay amethyst geode from the Red Lotus Boutique. 

Keep your focus on this intention until you see it come to fruition. Also, be sure you give plenty of attention to your gem and don’t disregard your crystals.

To get the best results, place your wish fulfilling gem where you see it and activate it regularly, such as at your bedside table, your desk (my favorite), or your living room. When placed here, you can put your gems under a light to help activate them. You can even put it in a window where the sunlight will hit your gem and activate it. It’s especially helpful to raise the gem up so that the light can penetrate and activate the entire crystal.

As wonderfully as these magic activators work, you must be sure to do your part, too. If you’re interested in creating opportunities for love, get out there and circulate. If you want to lose weight, be sure to modify your eating and exercise more. But, support it with a gem.

Select one special POWER gem.

When you have a dear desire, such as to get married or attract love, select a large faux diamond and place it next to your bed or on your desk – anywhere you’ll see it and can activate it with light. Treat it special and keep it clean. Focus on your desire to attract your perfect mate. You can do this with any special wish or desire you have. If it’s a work-related wish you have, keep your gem at work where you see it often.

Surround your Chinese astrology sign with gems.


Looking to enhance yourself or members of your family? Create a gem bowl with a variety of gems. Place small figures of each family member’s astrology animal sign in the bowl to use as an enhancer. You or your family will find yourself receiving more opportunities and exciting new ventures coming to you as a result. 

My husband and I are both tigers and I have a heart-shaped glass bowl of faux diamonds with two tigers in it.  We continue to move ahead in life and have exciting opportunities and adventures — so I can personally attest to this!

See your ship come in with gems.

Sailing ships have long been activators of arriving wealth. Take that one step further by loading your ship figurine with crystals or faux diamonds. Crystals placed on the body of a ship figure are a great way to represent your wealth sailing into your life. Make sure ships seem to be sailing into the house, office, or room.

Choose gem colors by your wish.

Green crystals will bring health and family luck, red crystals bring fame and recognition for your desire (perfect for an ambitious person!), blue crystals can be used for business opportunities and career advancement (and the money that comes with it), white crystals bring luck with children, creativity, and helpful people and mentors, yellow, pink and amber bring opportunities for education, love, and romance. Pink is especially powerful for bringing you attention for love.

Pick your gems with care.

Always choose clear, sparkling and beautiful gems that appeal to you. Glass, crystal, and natural gems are all perfectly acceptable activators of your wishes. Make sure the gems are not cloudy or unappealing to you in any way. Keep them clean and dust-free.

Put your gems to work.

Have a certain business you’re looking to attract? Place the name of that business or a picture of the person associated with the business or a business card on top of your diamond. If you want a commitment from a reluctant suitor, place a picture of your beloved on top of the diamond. A certain clothing size is what you’re after? Use a green colored gem and place a picture of your slimmer self on the gemstone.

Low home vitality can express itself in your personal energy, creating fatigue and lethargy. Over time, it can make you vulnerable to other afflictions and problems that range from rashes, allergies, and infections.

It’s important that we build the kind of energy around us that lifts us up and keeps us energized and optimistic. Optimism is a healthy outlook that comes from an energized person and home.

If you find that your energy is low and little health complaints numerous, it might be a good idea to employ sound therapy in your home.

What is sound therapy?
A house that is still and quiet is the type of home that creates yin energy – and over time that kind of energy can depress the person with even the brightest and happiest outlook. To lift the energy of your home, try incorporating the clear, pure sounds of a singing bowl or brass bell. The sound of a bell or singing bowl emits a tonal frequency that cuts through yin energy and dispels it from your home.

Begin by ringing a bell in the center of the room or house and then move from the door in a clockwise fashion making sure to ring the bell in dark corners and stagnant areas. These areas collect yin energy and become a vacuum, drawing more yin energy to them. When a bell or singing bowl is used, the sound penetrates through the yin energy and creates a clearing effect. Do this three times in each room to fully penetrate the area with cleansing sound chi.

Singing bowls
The traditional singing bowl that originated in Tibet is made of seven types of metals to represent the seven major planets. Using one of these will not only clear the room, but will also clear your personal energy as well.

You’ll notice that when the bowl is struck and the mallet run around the outside edge of the bowl, the sounds it emits begin to vibrate out in waves. That resonation of sound waves will be felt by anyone using a singing bowl and will pass through you, cutting through any negative or dark energy.

Singing bowls bring the strength and power of the planets to lift your energy and break up old energies. Use these when there’s illness, arguments and low energy in your home or office. Keep your home and spirit energized
If you want to permanently lift your energy and the energy around your home, be sure to use sound therapy daily. Install a water fountain, play music, or hang a windchime near a window to keep your home filled with active, natural sounds.

Even a radio or TV playing will keep a home energized with the sounds of life and activity – a key to keeping your home’s chi vibrant and the chi energized and refreshed.

This is especially true if your home is not occupied during the day.

A home that is lifeless and still can become too quiet and too yin. Incorporating natural sounds will help lift your home’s energy and your personal chi, too.

So go make a happy noise now and see if you don’t feel better right away!

There is no doubt that we are completely dependent upon computers today and rare are the homes without a personal computer. Few of us are able to work when our computers stop working because of bugs, viruses or a log-jam of files.

To make yourself more efficient at work and in your business, you should take steps to ensure that your computer is a lean, mean, computing machine.

When your computer isn’t in top form, you don’t think well, your mood is colored with frustration (and anger, sometimes) and you don’t work as well when you feel this way.  More importantly it takes you out of what I call “receive mode” — that’s the where energy flows to you bringing you opportunities, income, prestige and advancement.

These steps will help you clear the decks and keep your computer in top form all while making you more efficient, able to think more clearly, and opening you up to more opportunities — and keeping you in receive mode.
1. Clean files for clear thinking.

When our computers are a mess, it’s hard for us to be efficient or to think clearly. That’s because when files are hard to find, we get frustrated and annoyed and this clouds our interactions and our daily mood. Organization equals efficiency – and the ability to think clearly.  Clear out old, rarely used files and programs.

2. Cords create havoc.

Whenever we see clutter and mess, it brings our energy level down. One of the most unattractive aspects of computers are all the cords. Corral cords with zip-ties and Velcro wrappers. Pull stray cords to one side and anchor them to a small cup hook so that you don’t accidentally pull them with your feet.  Otherwise, you might constantly find yourself in “a tangle” with people and situations, too.

3. Create a beautiful view.

Because I like to focus on what I want, I place a beautiful waterfall image on my screensaver. Of course, water is wealth in feng shui. Use beautiful views of fish, waterfalls, fields, or streams to create a window where there is none. The screen of your computer should inspire you when you see it and give you a view you love.

4. Protection first.

In feng shui, the first priority should always be protective feng shui. This is especially true of your computer. When you work on the Internet, it’s important that you use some kind of protection like Norton, McAfee, Kaspersky or Eset (my fave) or other form of firewall to protect you from people who might try to take your sensitive information. This also will help maintain your computer’s speed – and that helps you to be more efficient too.

5. Old, outdated files hold you back.

Do you have old projects or old files that you still need but not every day? Get an external hard drive. Think of these as a “mini-storage room” for your computer. You can get a huge external hard drive that allows you to dump huge files (like photos and music) on there and get the old files that you rarely use OFF your machine. When your machine moves fast, so do you. Plus, by clearing out the old stuff, such as old client and business files, you create room for NEW clients and business to come to you.

6. Clean screens help you see clearly.

When your computer screen is full of dirty, greasy fingerprints, you can’t think clearly or “see” what you need to do at work. Make it a point to avoid touching your computer screen and clean it regularly .

7. Additional storage adds speed.

If your computer is slow and simple commands drag, think about adding an external storage device where you can store large audio, sound, and photo files. This will help your computer’s ability to work more efficiently and use its memory for processing rather than eating up precious computing ability because its memory is being taxed by large file storage.

But few of us really expect a truly new year.

We just hope for the best. This year can be different. By trying just a few new things, a vibrant, positive world can open up for you.

If you’re ready for a truly new year, read on. If not, there’s always leftover chocolate.

Forget resolutions, remember your accomplishments.

Too many of us go into the New Year thinking about all the things we’re going to ‘give up’, get rid of, or stop doing. All the emphasis is on the negative. Instead, put the emphasis on the positive – what you did in the past year, what you accomplished that you couldn’t imagine yourself doing this time last New Year’s Eve. There’s too much resolution pollution and too little self-appreciation. Pat yourself on the back and reflect on all the things you did that surprised yourself in the past year.

Get rest.

A famous mountain climbing expert who trains mountain climbers begins the training with two weeks of….nothing. That’s right, rest. His belief is that you can literally climb a mountain if your body is prepared for it and that requires rest. Make sure you have enough down time to think, recharge and keep healthy in the year ahead. All comes from nothing and if you want the world, give yourself time and rest so you’re ready for it!

Take a stand and make a prediction.

Rather than a resolution, try making a prediction about something in the coming year – maybe something you’ll do or that will happen in your life. What’s interesting about predictions is that they don’t have all the baggage that a resolution does but still retain the magic, which is that tiny kernel of desire in yourself.

Resolutions usually fail because the seed at the nexus of the resolution is based on what’s wrong with you and not what’s right, what you want or what you’re excited about. When we make predictions, they’re positive and we look forward to seeing them occur — a lot like the excitement we experience opening a fortune cookie. That’s when magic happens in life.

Get out (doors).

We spend too much time in front of screens and away from nature and our relationships. Time spent with nature recharges us — and walking among trees can make you famous. Looking to be known, want more growth in your life, better health? Being outdoors is good feng shui for the body and mind. It can also help you have happier, healthier relationships.

If you have something difficult to talk about, have your discussion outdoors. The conversation will be easier because in feng shui your eye and heart are connected, and when your eye is on a beautiful bird or flower, it helps open up your heart, making you more connected with the other person.

“Stand up and walk out of your history.” Quote by Dr. Phil

You are not the sum total of the days that have preceded this one. Destiny is what you make happen, history is what has happened to you. Dr. Phil is right. Sometimes you can just stand up and walk out of the past. The feng shui trinity of luck is made up of one third of your actions – not your history. Take charge of your life today and stop living like it was yesterday.

Just add water.

The water element is the first natural element that we come to know as humans. We are held in a sac of water in our mother’s stomach, the water cushioning and insulating us. We need water in our homes and our lives, yet too few homes have water. Sure, they have lots of blue colors but little actual water. Make it a goal this year to bring water to your home in the form of a fountain, a pond, an aquarium, a water fall – even drinking more water.

Adding water to your environment will help to insulate you from the bumps of life. Mind racing and life stress-filled? Visit a lake, pond or beach to clear your mind and find the answers you are looking for. The body knows before the mind, so if you find yourself unable to quench your thirst, be ready for a change to come to your life. It’s your body’s way of helping you to handle the change.

Although I don’t recommend this, I did relay information about how the Chinese in places such as Hong Kong have been known to go to drastic measures when the energy from a neighboring building threatens their businesses and livelihoods.

In some instances, I have seen canons placed on top of buildings and at entrances to businesses that are opposed by negative forces. The strength of the firing canon symbolically destroys the opposing force from harsh edges and other strong poison arrows.
In these cases, the energy being emitted was killing energy – the kind that can lead to bankruptcy or serious illness. I suggested using mirrors, but unbeknownst to me, this client bought a tiny canon and aimed it at the neighbors’ houses. Within a short period of time, both neighbors moved on. Obviously, this is an extreme example.

Feng shui is rarely needed for the neighbors we like, but it can be a place of refuge when you have troublesome neighbors.
So how do you handle negative neighbors with feng shui? It depends on the situation.
Sometimes it’s just a case of annoyances such as kids screaming or a lawn mower starting early on a Saturday morning. Others are more serious and pose a threat. When there is serious negative energy emanating toward you from your neighbors, it pays to give more attention to your feng shui.
Here are some problems that are more common – and the feng shui remedies to help create good will in your neighborhood or where you live.

Apartments

When you live in an apartment, you’re closer to your neighbors and it’s easier for them to get on your nerves. If the problem is from a neighbor who is directly across from you, try placing a small mirror on your door to reflect the neighbor, and the neighbor’s negative energy.
If the problem is with the neighbor on the right (as you look OUT the door), hang a metal 6-rod hollow rod windchime on this side. This will lift the negativity away. If the neighbor is on the left of you, place an image of a dragon on the left or place a lush, healthy plant on the left side of the door.

Homes

Light cure for troublesome neighbors. Light is an effective way to stop a situation of nighttime annoyances. One client had a problem with boys gathering in the driveway and playing basketball until the early morning hours on the side where she slept. I recommended that she place a motion detecting spotlight on this side of the house that would shine very brightly at the boys. She installed one and within a few days the basketball stopped.
Likewise, if your neighbor’s dog barks all night, shining a bright light at the house might help stop the barking (or try one of those low frequency sound boxes that stop dogs from barking…it helped my Pomeranian problem — and I have the Pomeranian!).

Yin water method for gossip and bad feelings. If you’re troubled by gossip and hostility, add a large mouthed basin of water between you and your neighbor. The water will help to absorb the negativity and soften relations between you and your neighbor. Combine the water with a mirror for an even more effective way of handling tensions and ill will.

Bells and windchimes transform gossip and negativity. To create better energy from the harsh corner of a neighbor’s home or malicious gossip, try hanging tinkling bells. You can also place a 6-rod hollow windchime to help transform the negative energy.

Color method for bad energy. White is a very yang color and can help to transform neighborly attitudes more friendly and amiable. By painting your home white, you will emit strong yang heavenly energy outwards and make it more difficult for negative energy to be bothersome to you at home. This has worked for homes even situated next to cemeteries.

Happy method to lift spirits. If your neighbors are unhappy and unpleasant, try placing happy items like rainbow-colored windsocks, whirligigs or anything brightly colored, like this rainbow pi yao hanger or a set of six crystal balls. Planting pretty flowers and bushes and painting a fence with happy images can help to lift the unpleasant mood of your neighbor.

A note on feng shui pa kua mirrors. Many people employ these mirrors to stop neighbors from annoying them. However, these kinds of mirrors emit very strong and harsh energy and should never be aimed at anyone or anything. There are other ways to remedy the situation without sending dangerous energy toward your neighbors. If you own and display one of these, be sure to get rid of it as the energy can come back to harm you.
