But when the sales don’t come in, it’s extremely frustrating. You wonder why your products aren’t moving, why the phone isn’t ringing or the sales just aren’t coming.

Use feng shui to increase sales exponentially.

When you’re ready to see more sales start streaming in, it helps to understand some of the key principles of feng shui. Once you do, you’ll see how you can stimulate movement if sales have been flat  — and help start the flow of sales again.

Follow these tips to help you get that cash register ringing.

1. Change your merchandise.

Feng shui likes movement and flow. Rotating your merchandise is one way to both keep your merchandise fresh and the sales stimulated. In a retail establishment, keep rotating seasonal merchandise and regularly mix up the floor plan of the store. Sometimes just moving the merchandise to a new location can make sales. In an online business, move your offerings around and have a variety of options at a variety of price points. Point out different items you have to sell at various times.

2. Make use of the lucky corner.

These are the feng shui power corners. The corners opposite and diagonal to the door are the “lucky corners” that can be used to create a special corner with special offerings or unique products. These corners are perfect areas to add extra eye-catching details, too. Add lighting and plants in the lucky corners to add extra growth and fame energy – which also stimulates sales.

3. Hide the bathroom.

I shopped at a local boutique for five years before I ever noticed there was a restroom in the establishment. Never call attention to a bathroom. Because these are “yin” spaces, they’ll drain sales, so don’t make them prominent in your business unless you want sales to go down the toilet.

4. Be a sore thumb.

Yep, that’s right. Sticking out is good feng shui and captures people’s attention — always a good idea when you want to make sales. Find a way to catch someone’s attention in a unique and unusual way and you will help draw attention to a product, and lead your customer to the cash register.

5. Show gratitude.

Gratitude is excellent feng shui because it creates goodwill, and that often keeps businesses afloat. Make sure customers know you’re happy they made a purchase with you. You can do this with a free gift, a note tucked into the purchase, even a label on the box (if you ship) that says “thank you for your purchase.” How could you show your customers that you appreciate them?

6. Be friendly.

Customers like to feel appreciated and that you’re happy they’re there. Atmosphere is critical in feng shui.  An atmosphere that is welcoming and warm helps bring in more customers and is just as important as great merchandise. One very popular local hamburger restaurant greets customers as they walk in the door and says a hearty “thank you” as they walk out the door. The whole restaurant has a family feel about it and it creates long-term repeat business because the customers feel welcome there.

7. Hire the right people.

The right people will create a positive feeling in your business and your customers will be happy when they interact with them. Good employees will create more goodwill with your clients and will draw more customers.  These employees also create good chi for the business. Customers will continue to come to your business when your employees are knowledgeable, helpful, and pleasant.

8. Change and stay fresh.

How does Madonna stay in the news all the time – or Jennifer Anniston? They keep their looks and style fresh and new and that keeps them in the newspaper and magazines. Stale sales come from stale companies and merchandise.

Keep updating your look and improve your website or your store. Consider freshening up your packaging, such as shopping bags, your logo, your business cards, your professional photo, your website or blog. Maybe all you need is a coat of paint. Just freshen up and do so regularly.

9. Keep the register close to the door.

The front door is so important in feng shui because this is the “mouth of chi” – it’s the point where energy enters your store. When the door’s close to the cash register, this energizes the register and directs energy straight to the cash till! When the register is too far from the entrance, it’s easy for the energy to be diverted and never make it to the register – and that means slow, straggling sales. Try to move your register close to the door and envision that Ka-ching! sound every time the door opens!

In feng shui, zodiac allies can help you find love or grow your wealth.

Like Western astrology, the Chinese Zodiac is also made up of 12 signs that relate to the year you were born. For most people discerning their Chinese Zodiac sign is fairly straightforward, but those born in the months of January or February often think they’re an Ox when they’re really a Tiger.

That’s why it’s important to avoid going by your “Chinese restaurant placemat” to discern your zodiac sign if you’re born at the beginning of the year. Rather, it’s important to find your horoscope sign by using an accurate calculator that accounts for the moving dates of the Chinese New Year because it’s this date that is the dividing line for Chinese zodiac signs and not the western January 1 date.

Besides the bedroom, the kitchen is one of the most important areas of family luck in feng shui thought.

From centuries past, having enough food was a sign of luxury and financial prosperity. It still is today, but not to the same extent it once was.

When the energy in the kitchen is beneficial, families are more inclined to want to eat at home, and the family will enjoy better health and relationships as a result. When the kitchen doesn’t enjoy beneficial energy, the feng shui luck of the whole family is affected.

1. Make cleaning a habit to improve prosperity.

One of the most important things you can do for your kitchen is to keep it clean and organized – and the two areas that need it most are the pantry and the refrigerator. Why? This is where food, a symbol of wealth and health, are stored. Chip bags that are almost empty, old jars of old food, spices, and other items bring old chi to your life and invigorated chi means invigorated wealth.

By keeping the fridge and pantry clean and organized regularly, you’ll improve your health by finding foods to prepare nutritious meals quickly, and your wealth will improve because you won’t waste food because you couldn’t find it and clean, fresh foods are a symbol of abundance. When you see items out of place in the pantry or fridge, make a point to organize or wipe up spills right then.

2. Clean before storing uplifts your health and vitality.

The optimum time to clean your refrigerator or pantry is before you store your groceries after shopping.  Taking just a few minutes to toss out almost-empty jars and boxes or wiping down shelves will make your refrigerator look clean and organized and your pantry will be easier to find things in. Make this your habit and you’ll see meals come together faster and easier and an overall improvement in your health and vitality.

3. Clear off countertops to stimulate your life.

It sounds counterintuitive, but when you have countertops that are full with small appliances, stacks of bills, and dishes, loaves of bread or bags of chips, it doesn’t inspire you to cook. On the other hand, when you see a kitchen in a model home, with its clear counters and attractive bowl of lemons or potted plant, it just makes you feel like whipping up a batch of cookies doesn’t it? If you want to cook more, cook better, and enjoy your family more, clear counters means the chi will flow in your kitchen – and that will impact your whole life.

4. Discard damaged items to stop financial loss.

Dented cans, scratched pans, chipped dishes are all negative energy that brings low-grade chi to your food.  And even if you replace chipped dishes with new ones, be sure to get rid of the old ones immediately. Having old damaged items hanging around “because they’re still good,” only brings your chi down. If they’re aren’t stained or badly damaged, donate them. If they are, throw them away. Donating items that should be in the trash is bad mojo, so don’t do it.

5. Hide the trash to stop money loss, improve relationships.

Energy flows where the eye goes and it always goes toward negative space, such as trash. If the first thing you see in the kitchen is your trash can with vegetable peelings, coffee grounds and egg shells, that’s where your energy goes – out with the trash. Food is meant to invigorate us and sustain our health, but when we see the negative side of food, it can impact our health and our relationships. It also symbolizes food thrown away, or money loss, and could secretly be creating a drain on your finances.

Worse still, it can cause relationships to deteriorate rapidly like the rotting food in the trash. Why? The yin energy of the trash permeates the entire kitchen. Try to put the trash inside a cabinet, out of sight, and keep your trash can meticulously clean. You’ll be amazed at what a difference you’ll feel when you come into your kitchen and no longer see the trash sitting out in the open. Check home centers for pull out trash drawers to convert your cabinet into a trash drawer.

6. Introduce beauty, life and fullness for more abundance.

OK, now that the fridge, pantry, counters and trash are spic and span, it’s time to introduce radiant chi that will uplift your home and life. Bring in potted herbs, fill a fruit basket with fruit or display full kitchen canisters to connote wealth and abundance. Don’t worry: faux fruit and herbs are just fine and do a nice stand-in for the real thing. The important thing is that you see beautiful, vibrant, healthful things when you’re in the kitchen to stimulate fullness, beauty and abundance in your life.

The kitchen has a special place in feng shui. The stove, in particular, has an especially important place in the home and the kitchen. That’s because this is the appliance that generates the meals that feed the residents of that home.

In feng shui, kitchens can suppress both good and bad luck.

On its own, though, the kitchen is thought to press down luck in feng shui. That means, even if you have good luck in this room, or bad, the kitchen by its very nature will stifle the luck in this area.

That being said, if the kitchen is located in a good direction for you based on your pa kua number, then the food prepared and consumed here will be especially beneficial. If, based on your pa kua number, this is an unlucky area, the bad luck will be pressed down, therefore, making this a good location for a kitchen.

Here are some more kitchen feng shui basics:

• Avoid locating a bedroom over a kitchen. If this isn’t possible, then make extra sure that the bed does not share the same wall as the stove. Likewise, try not to put a bedroom, or bed, on the other side of the wall where your stove is placed.
• Kitchens should ideally be placed near the back of the house and not in the middle. Placement at the front of the house is also not advisable.
• Don’t paint kitchens red. Kitchens have fire in them already; don’t increase the “fire energy” by painting the kitchen red.
• Kitchens in harmful positions: If your kitchen is located in the NW, SW, or center of your house: Purchase a five-rod wind chime here to dispel some of the energy. I must be honest that the worst possible location for a kitchen is the NW, particularly if you cook with gas. Remove all candles from this location and try to install an electric stove here. Alternatively, you can add a large urn of water, such as a fish tank, to dampen some of the excess fire energy.
• There are few absolutes in feng shui, but this is one, and that is: no open flames in the NW sector of the home or there could be severe losses or problems for the man of the house or the breadwinner. Or, if you’re single, there could be difficulties attracting a suitable relationship or frequent spats and disagreements with someone you are dating. The only cure I’m aware of for this is to place a large urn of water (18 X 24 inches) in the kitchen. However, this is rather cumbersome and large vessel of water to have sitting on a cabinet or floor of your kitchen. You might try placing a spring water dispenser here or a fish tank to try and help press down the fire energy located here. Try to place it close as possible to the stove.

8 Key Feng Shui Kitchen Questions

1. Is there at least two feet of distance between the stove and refrigerator? If they are too close together, the refrigerator puts out the fire of the stove, creating financial difficulties. If they are next to each other, put a large wooden cutting board between them.

2. Can you see the toilets from the kitchen? Even a view or access to a toilet from the kitchen is bad news. If this is the case in your house, paint the bathroom door red, and as always, be sure to keep it closed at all times.

3. Placement of tears? A stove placed between a refrigerator and a sink is said to cause sadness and emotions such as those from mourning.

4. Do you have an islands of respite? Islands serve as a helpful feng shui feature because they are often topped with stone (which weighs down bad luck) and are situated between things, such as the stove and sink, or the stove and the refrigerator, thereby stopping “arguments” between kitchen features. Count yourself lucky if you have one. The same is true of dining tables in the kitchen.

5. Is your refrigerator stocked? A well-stocked pantry and refrigerator are both good feng shui — and symbols of wealth. Keep both cleaned out on a regular basis. Make sure nothing is stored on the floor of the pantry. This keeps energy renewed and wealth flowing.

6. Do you support your stove? If the stove is below a window, the cook will not enjoy good support.

7. Can the stove/kitchen be seen from the front door? If you can see the stove or the kitchen from your front door, then you could be losing opportunities. Block the view of the view from the front door with a screen or a plant.

8. Do you enter through the kitchen? If so, you could struggle with your weight. If the first thing you see is your kitchen, you might have difficulties with overeating. Try to enter through another door.

A clean house is more than just a luxury – it is a necessity. That’s right, a necessity. We need a clean house (office or desk) because of all it offers us: efficiency and relaxation.

Cleanse your home of grime's negative chi to invite prosperity and happiness.

Efficiency, because a clean house means you can find what you need when you need it. It also means that you will spend less time worrying and frustrated over the mess in your house.

A clean house offers relaxation, because clean houses look better, smell better, and feel better – and that’s what makes you relax. A mess everywhere makes us tense. Even hidden messes worry us. 

What does it take to have a truly clean house? In a word, discipline. No one likes to hear that word anymore, but it’s true.

A clean house takes work, plain and simple. Ironically, the less a house is cleaned, the more work it takes. Yep, it’s true. If you don’t stay on top of your house, the house will be on top of you — with papers piling up and junk everywhere — not to mention dirt and grime.

Look around. Is your outer life experience mirroring your inner home experience?

What is your house saying about you and your life? Now, how does your luck improve with a clean house?

Think about all the “old” and “unsuccessful” energy that you have in your home.

If you’ve got dust bunnies the size of Great Danes, it’s time to get to work. Dirt and dust equal stagnant and stuck. Remember, a rut is just a grave that’s open at both ends. How to get out of your dirty rut? Good old fashioned elbow grease. Here’s a quick guide to cleaning your space to get you out of your dirty rut and into a prosperous groove

1. Go to the bathroom.
Why? Bathrooms that are dirty are germfests waiting to make you sick. Clean it up and you might just feel better or get through cold and flu season unscathed!

2. Take on the kitchen.
This is where you eat so it should be clean. Nothing attracts bugs faster than a filthy kitchen. Make it a goal to give your kitchen a two-hour once over. Spend two hours in there and really clean — the coils on the fridge, the oven, the floors, ceilings, windows – everything.

3. Head into the bedroom.
When you sleep, you are breathing in everything that’s in the room, i.e., pet dander, dust, mites from the bed, you name it. Make it a point to clean under the bed, vacuum the blinds and wash the curtains and bedspreads and blankets. Then vacuum, yes, vacuum, the mattress and flip. Ahhh….clean. It feels so nice.

4. Create a paper trail.
To the recycling center that is. Haven’t read that magazine? Then you’re not going to, so get rid of it. Conduct your own “paperectomy” and get rid of all that paper that’s just taking up space.

5. Concentrate in the corners.
This is where everything drifts to… the corner of the bedroom, the corners of the ceilings. Corners are a magnet for stacks of papers. On the ceiling, corners attract spider webs. Clear out every corner you have, including closet corners.

6. Go outside.
Rent a pressure washer and wash the house, sidewalks, patios, and driveways. Pressure washers are a house’s best friend. Think of it as an exfoliating scrub for your home. You will love your sparkling house.

7. Head to the top.
Clean off the tops of everything. This includes dressers, tables, counters, refrigerators — anything with a top. It also means dusting the tops of windows,door trim, and tops of baseboards. Dust just loves to hide on the tops of things.

8. Get steamed.
Once a year get your carpets and upholstery STEAM cleaned. Why steam? It’s hot and it’s water so it will clean REALLY well without hurting anything or leaving behind any kind of soapy residue. That’s right, soapy residue.

Many people get their carpets cleaned or use grocery-store carpet cleaner products only to find they need to do it again and again and again because the carpets get dirtier faster and faster and faster.

Hmmmm…. a conspiracy? No. Just soap that stays behind. And soap is sticky, right? Well, then, that’s where all the dirt is coming from: it’s getting stuck in all that soap that is left behind from those cleaners. And while you’re at it, throw away all your soap-based carpet cleaners.

Get Feng Shui Clean…. the kind of clean that will improve your health, career, and wealth.

For true wealth, feng shui prescribes focusing on more than just view of wealth.

In the feng shui perspective, there are eight things that make a person wealthy. These are most commonly called the “Eight Aspirations.” If you’re familiar with feng shui, you’ll recognize that each of these aspirations corresponds to a corner of the eight-sided feng shui map, called the bagua. When you want better health, activating the east health sector or east side of your home will help you.

Assess each corner to determine if there is anything missing from your life or if there’s an area where you feel unbalanced. If travel has been missing from your life, then activating the northwest corner will help get you on the airplane and headed to a foreign destination. Why is travel an aspiration? Because the ability to go to another country and experience a different culture or climate enhances us and the distance can give us perspective in our life.

Remember that if a sector has a toilet or kitchen, don’t activate it, but rather, enhance that corner of the living room or your garden instead. Secondly, make sure there are no blockages in the areas you want to enhance in your life so that chi can move smoothly and easily in the sector.

The Eight Aspirations Wealth Checklist

____The wealth of helpful people, mentors, travel. This is associated with the northwest corner. Add earth objects, such as a globe, flags, pictures of important people, deities, and metal or moving objects. Fans are wonderful activators in the northwest as are flowers because they are the yang expression of a plant. Airplanes and other travel symbols are another way to get you off the ground and headed somewhere exotic.

____ The wealth of career prospects, business opportunities. This is the generating income sector of the north. Adding water and water symbols is an excellent way to stimulate business and career opportunities. Large metal and moving objects are also potent stimulators. Want extra opportunities? Add blue candles to this sector to give you a shot of opportunity!

____ The wealth of wisdom, education, spirituality. Cultivating your mind and the ability to think clearly and make good decisions is a key area for the attainment of wealth. Enhance the northeast corner of your home with lights, earth objects, small stones, globes, lighted crystals and chandeliers.

____The wealth of family and good health. A happy family and good health often go together. This is the east corner or side of your house. Enhance this area with wood objects, large wooden pieces of furniture and plants. You can also enhance this portion of your home with water, aquariums and fountains to create smoother, more harmonious relationships and improved health.

____The wealth of material abundance and prosperity. This is the southeast sector and it applies to accumulated money, investments and abundance of resources. Adding water in this area is especially helpful when you want to accumulate financial reserves and see your investments flourish. Healthy green plants and flowers are wonderful activators for this sector.

____The wealth of a good name, recognition, and personal fame. For the south sector of your home and garden, be sure to get your share of the recognition you deserve by adding the fire energy of lights, candles, and bright colors. Flowers and plants are also a wonderful way to generate more recognition for yourself because their wood energy feeds the fire nature of the south corner. If you’ve been working hard to “make a name for yourself” then the south sector is the side of the house to enhance!

____The wealth of love, marriage, and marriage prospects. Having the opportunity to marry, fall in love, and meet the right people is associated with the southwest corner of the home. You can enhance these areas of yo
ur life by adding globes, mountains, crystals and lighting in this area. Gardens benefit by adding large stones and boulders to enhance your romantic life!

____The wealth of creativity, children, and luck for children. The west corner of the house is the area associated with luck of the descendants. Metal energy is the energy here that brings a spark of creativity to those working in artistic fields, jewelry, and for children. Crystals and earth objects are also enhancing. Probably one of the best activators for this sector is the humble windchime. Softly moving and tinkling in the wind, the windchime will help to move chi in this sector and enhance the luck of the children in the family and help to unstick creative blocks.

But what if that fails? Then try feng shui. Yes, the Chinese guide used for arranging homes and offices can also be used for selecting colors based on an individual’s own personal feng shui. In feng shui, each person has a color that is considered their personal “success” color.

This success color is determined by a number that is based on gender and date of birth. This number, called a “kua” number, is associated with several colors. One color is for success, another for good relationships, and another for good health or personal growth. By selecting the correct color, the driver will experience better luck over all because the color is harmonized with that individual.

When buying your next car, try using personal feng shui to select your “success” color. If you’ll use the car more for shuttling kids to soccer practice, then choose a “relationship” color.

In feng shui, blue is a yin color and represents water.

One of my favorite places to vacation is the beach. I used to live on a remote atoll in the Pacific Island (Google Johnston Island and you’ll see me in a gas mask as well as pictures of this tiny pimple in the Pacific) and it was there that I began to notice the variations of blue in water. The island is the most remote landmass in the world and because it is, the water is pristine.

The atoll is actually an extinct volcano, so living there meant we were living at the top of the volcano. All around the island was extremely deep water, so the water by the island was almost clear and then as it became deeper, it looked like the shades of blue on a paint chip from the hardware store: light at the top and deep blue, almost black, at the bottom.

All water is not created equal though.

Some water is light, pale and sun-drenched, some water is turquoise or cornflower blue and begs you to dive in, and some water is thousands of feet deep and so dark you can’t see a hand in front of your face.

The same is true with water in feng shui.

Water is the element associated with career, job and business opportunities – and generating more income. Water is considered yin in nature because it takes things inward (think of a stone thrown in a pond) and falls downward. In feng shui, water is also considered to be a danger. If you’ve ever witnessed a flood or a hydroelectric dam, you know the awesome power water yields.

Yet of all the elements of fire, metal, wood, and earth, it’s water that has the greatest power to create wealth.

That’s why water’s associated color, blue, is so critical – even more so than black, the more common feng shui color for water. Few people have ever witnessed water so dark that it’s black, but most everyone has seen water that’s blue.

Your association with an element is more powerful when it’s relevant to you.

And, while I know that black is the color of deep water and the color of water in feng shui, it’s blue that most often makes me think “water,” and chances are you do, too. For this reason, the color blue is especially important when you want feng shui to bring you money.

Blue doors welcome money.

If your home faces southeast, north, east, or southwest, painting your door a rich blue will help to stimulate wealth – and almost INSTANTLY! Blue represents water at your front door, which is extremely auspicious. Don’t miss an opportunity to paint your door blue if your house faces one of the favorable directions. And, if you’ve painted it black, that’s great, too!

Blue jewelry beckons money to you.

Wearing metal jewelry helps to stimulate wealth because metal makes water in feng shui, so be sure to select and wear blue jewelry and accents – especially in the Year of the Rabbit. If you are an east person (like I am! Check your kua number here), this doubles the effect!

Blue is for beginnings.

In feng shui, everything comes from nothing. When you want to get something started, the color blue can play an important role. The color blue and its associated element, water, is symbolic of the New Moon, when the moon is dark. It’s at the time the moon is new that seeds planted have the greatest chance of occurring. This makes the Chinese New Year so important – because it coincides with the first New Moon of the year.

Blue wallets and purses for 2011!

Most years, red is the color for wallets and purses. This year, the rabbit, a spring-time animal and wood-element animal sign will be battling the annual metal energy. This will hurt the animal’s natural tendencies and mean that money will suffer. To help you through the year – and increase your income and accumulated money – carry a blue wallet and purse.

Blue for promotion, love, and fame.

Wherever the annual 4 Star visits, that’s the spot to add blue. Blue colors are a perfect stimulator – but they don’t “over-stimulate” the 4 Star, which could lead to infidelity. Instead, use blue colors and accents versus real water. This will help you get recognition, especially if you speak or write for a living or if you are a student. It will also help singles in search of romance attract a love interest. For those who are married, the blue color will help to feed their romantic inclinations without over-stimulating the four star so as to invite a third party to the romance.

Blue is the color of career, business growth, and opportunity.

Blue colors are associated with the north, the direction of career and business opportunity. When you undertake new career endeavors or want to expand your direction, put your focus on the north sector and be sure to use the color blue – and water, too!

Blue for generating wealth.

When most people want to create more wealth and prosperity, what they really want is more income. But they most often activate the southeast wealth sector. This is incorrect because the wealth sector is the sector of accumulated assets – not income. For that reason, add blue colors to the north to stimulate income and generate money.

Blue for growing assets.

If you have a stock portfolio, investment or savings accounts that you would like to see grow, then adding blue to the southeast wealth sector is the right thing to do. Adding blue here will help you amass more wealth and accumulate more money and see a rise in your investments. That’s because water feeds the southeast sector of small wood. In 2011, add metal (because metal makes water) and put water in the northwest sector to tap the water star 8.
