Luke Shaw is presently the regular choice for the role under manager Michael Carrick, but United need a solid competitor, given the Englishman’s injury record.

Patrick Dorgu is a solution for the Red Devils, but it has been reported that the club consider him a competitor to Matheus Cunha on the left wing instead.

Hence, a top-quality left-back could be signed, and we believe United should seek a reunion with Alvaro Carreras amid his uncertain situation at Real Madrid.

Incoming Los Blancos manager Jose Mourinho wants a more defensively minded left-back and has urged the club to sign either Riccardo Calafiori or Josko Gvardiol.

If the Portuguese tactician were to get his wish, it could open the door for Carreras’ potential exit, given he could struggle for regular playing time next season.

The former United defender was a regular under ex-Madrid manager Xabi Alonso during the first half of last season, but lost his place under interim boss Alvaro Arbeloa.

Towards the end of the campaign, he was a regular unused substitute with Ferland Mendy (injured) and Fran Garcia preferred on the left side of Madrid’s backline.

If Madrid were to sign Calafiori or Gvardiol, it could open the door for Carreras’ exit, as Los Blancos may want to recoup the investment made for a new left-back.

Carreras was signed from Benfica for £43 million, and a similar fee could be agreed for his exit.

Carreras could become available for a summer transfer

The Spanish ace became the third-choice left-back for Madrid during the final weeks of last season as he was behind Mendy and Garcia in the pecking order.

Mendy has been ruled out for most of the year with a fresh injury, but Carreras could find himself in a similar position if Calafiori or Gvardiol were to join Madrid.

In our view, United should consider a reunion with their graduate, who could be a good deputy behind Luke Shaw before establishing himself as a regular in the long run.

The 23-year-old never got his chance at United under former manager Erik ten Hag. He was loaned out to Preston North End, Granada and Benfica before joining the latter permanently.

United had the option to re-sign him with a low buy clause last summer, but ex-manager Ruben Amorim passed on the opportunity, having signed Dorgu at the start of the year.

Dorgu is primarily a left-back but has been vulnerable with his positioning in the role. He looks more adept playing as a winger and scored some memorable goals last term.

His future could be higher up the pitch. We would love Carreras to return, given he is a strong ball-playing left-back and has impressed with his creativity higher up the pitch.

Carreras completed 91 percent of his passes in La Liga last campaign. He won four duels per game with six recoveries and almost two tackles. He made two clearances per outing.

The left-back also chipped in with five goal contributions in the league. Shaw stayed unscathed and started every league match for United last season, but his injury record is a cause for concern.

The Southampton graduate has often been sidelined when subjected to a heavier workload. With United back in the Champions League next term, they could play over 60 matches with a strong run in every competition.

Shaw will need to be rotated regularly with another top-notch left-back. Carreras would be a perfect acquisition, but the big question remains whether he would consider a reunion if the opportunity arises.

The Red Devils are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window, with a prime focus on the midfield. Casemiro will leave United when his contract expires on June 30.

Manuel Ugarte has also been put up for sale. Hence, United are likely to sign more than one midfielder. Atalanta star Ederson has already been confirmed as one of those.

Anderson continues to be rated highly by United’s executives, and The Athletic claim that he would be the ‘number one target’ to accompany Mainoo in the heart of the midfield.

The club are still optimistic they can beat Manchester City to the player’s signature, but Forest’s asking price is considered ‘too high’, as of now.

Forest have turned down £80m from the Cityzens for the 23-year-old, and want to eclipse the £105m deal Arsenal agreed with West Ham United for Declan Rice in 2023.

Anderson would be a sublime signing for United

The 23-year-old has developed into one of the most sought-after midfielders in European football.

He had a brilliant 2025/26 campaign with the Tricky Trees despite them finishing 16th in the Premier League. Anderson won an average of eight duels and three tackles per outing with eight recoveries.

The Newcastle United graduate was superb with the ball at his feet, completing 54 passes with an accuracy of 86 percent. He also chipped in with four goals and four assists in the league.

Anderson would be a perfect candidate to replace Casemiro and would obviously start ahead of Ederson. The big question remains whether United will show the ambition to match Man City in the pursuit.

Forest are set to demand a premium transfer fee, having avoided relegation. Anderson could enhance his reputation further if he were to star for England at the upcoming World Cup in North America.

Hence, the Tricky Trees are in a strong position to negotiate. United have the financial capacity to make a huge outlay of £105m or more, but the main challenge remains persuading the young midfielder.

In our view, United should try their utmost to land his signature. The Englishman would be a statement signing and provide an upgrade on Casemiro, with his extra intensity, mobility and ball distribution.

The Brazilian is expected to become the first major arrival of the Michael Carrick era, but INEOS are far from finished in the transfer market.

United are understood to be targeting two more midfield additions before the window closes.

One player who remains firmly on their radar is Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott.

They have already held talks to understand the total financial package required to sign the young Englishman.

According to The Athletic, Man United feel they have a chance to strike an agreement closer to £60 million this summer.

Bournemouth have no intention to sell the midfielder. Their preference is to tie Scott down to a new long-term contract instead.

The South Coast club are reportedly prepared to include a release clause worth around £75 million in any fresh agreement.

INEOS must remain disciplined

Casemiro will officially leave the club after his contract expires at the end of this month.

Manuel Ugarte could be offloaded after a turbulent 24-month spell at Old Trafford.

Ederson appears set to become the first piece of the puzzle as United attempt to reshape the heart of their midfield.

Scott developed rapidly under former Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, whose high-intensity style helped unlock his potential.

The 22-year-old plays as a holding midfielder but possesses the ability to drive forward with the ball at his feet.

The data suggests Scott currently outperforms Kobbie Mainoo in regaining possession.

However, the United academy graduate remains comfortably superior when it comes to progressive passing.

The Red Devils must be extremely careful not to overpay if Bournemouth continue to play hardball in negotiations.

Mateus Fernandes may ultimately represent the more attractive long-term investment.

The West Ham midfielder looks more complete at this stage of his development and arguably possesses a higher ceiling.

West Ham United want £80m to offload Fernandes but United believe that valuation could fall significantly later in the transfer window.

They have a long-standing interest in Brighton & Hove Albion star Carlos Baleba and could make a move in the next few weeks.

According to The Sun, Baleba is speaking with multiple Man United players about a possible transfer to Old Trafford this summer.

The 22-year-old was seen talking to Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha after their Premier League game on the final day of the season.

Those conversations have only fuelled speculation surrounding his future.

Baleba also shares a close bond with fellow Cameroonians Andre Onana and Bryan Mbeumo.

He also played alongside Leny Yoro during their time at LOSC Lille.

It is no surprise that Baleba wants to secure a switch to Old Trafford.

His performances suffered from occasional lapses in concentration when United first explored a move for him last summer.

While allowing transfer speculation to affect performances is never viewed positively, INEOS still appear convinced by his enormous potential.

The club believe Baleba possesses all the tools required to develop into an elite midfielder.

Baleba could be a direct replacement for Casemiro, who will officially leave the club when his contract expires at the end of June.

He is a hard-working defensive midfielder and has the ability to drive forward with the ball.

His combination of athleticism and technical quality makes him one of the most complete young midfielders in England.

Brighton are fully aware of the gem they have on their hands.

They are expected to demand somewhere between £80 million and £100 million before even considering a sale.

United would ideally prefer to complete a deal closer to the £60m-£70m range.

However, Brighton have built a reputation as some of the toughest negotiators and are unlikely to lower their demands easily.

Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella has emerged as a possible target. The Spaniard is open to leaving the west London outfit after questioning the club’s policy.

United considered a loan deal for him in 2023 following injuries to Tyrell Malacia to and Luke Shaw. They went on to sign Sergio Reguilon instead.

The Red Devils’ hopes of eventually signing the former Brighton star have now been dealt a huge blow.

The Sun claim that Cucurella prefers to move abroad if he leaves Chelsea this summer.

Described as ‘intelligent‘ by former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, the 27-year-old is likely to move to Spain. He is a priority target for Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

United should step up interest in Lewis Hall after Cucurella blow

United have recently given preference to Premier League-proven players. It is one reason behind their interest in Cucurella.

With the Chelsea defender favouring a move elsewhere, United should focus their attention on signing Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall.

The Red Devils have already been linked with Hall. Director of football Jason Wilcox is a ‘big admirer’ of the English left-back.

Hall is open to leaving Newcastle this summer, but a deal may be costly, as he has three years left on his contract.

The 21-year-old is one of the best young left-backs in Europe’s top five leagues, making him a credible alternative for United.

He ranked first for possession-adjusted interceptions, shots blocked, and possession won among U21 full-backs across the top five leagues in Europe last season, highlighting his defensive attributes.

The Newcastle star is also effective in possession. He ranked first for progressive actions, forward passes, and progressive passes completed. He was second for crosses to the box and third for passes into the final third.

Hall does not have Cucurella’s experience yet, but has the potential to become a better left-back than the Spaniard.

The speculation has quickly gathered momentum despite very little concrete evidence suggesting a deal is genuinely close.

According to journalist Steven Railston, reports of Man United preparing a bid for Romero are wide of the mark.

The update will come as a relief to many supporters who remain unconvinced that the Argentine would be the right fit for United.

Romero is reportedly desperate to leave Tottenham this summer following another turbulent campaign in North London.

Spurs finished 17th in back-to-back seasons in the Premier League.

New manager Roberto De Zerbi eventually managed to steer the club away from a genuine relegation battle.

Romero initially arrived in North London on loan in 2021 before turning that move into a permanent transfer.

However, his relationship with the club and sections of the fanbase appears to have deteriorated significantly.

Tensions reportedly reached a boiling point last season when Romero was forced to return to England from Argentina for Tottenham’s final match after receiving heavy criticism from supporters.

Despite his undeniable quality, Romero would represent a risky signing for the Red Devils.

The Argentine has struggled with both disciplinary issues and recurring fitness concerns throughout his career.

United must avoid investing heavily in players who risk placing personal interests ahead of the collective needs of the team.

If INEOS decide to enter the market for another centre-back, their focus should be on a more reliable defender capable of bringing leadership and stability to the backline.

The Red Devils are already well-stocked in central defence with Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez, Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven all competing for places.

That depth makes a major investment in another centre-back feel increasingly unnecessary at this stage.

According to The Athletic, Man United are weighing up an approach for Leeds United shot-stopper Karl Darlow.

Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is another alternative for the Red Devils but he still has two years left on his current deal.

United are looking to sign an experienced goalkeeper, who can provide reliable cover for Senne Lammens.

Altay Bayindir is expected to leave this summer after failing to impress over the last three campaigns.

The Turkish international was handed a genuine opportunity by former manager Ruben Amorim to establish himself as a regular starter last season.

While Bayindir showed noticeable improvement with his ball distribution, his continued struggles when defending set-pieces remained a recurring issue.

Lammens has brought assurance and calmness at the back.

His commanding presence during corners and ability to produce crucial saves have quickly made him a fan favourite.

Andre Onana is expected to report for pre-season training, but reports suggest he has already been informed that he can look for a new club.

Darlow enjoyed an impressive campaign at Leeds, firmly establishing himself as the undisputed number one ahead of both Illan Meslier and Lucas Perri.

The 35-year-old enjoyed a career resurgence in 2026, starting every league match except three and playing a huge role in helping Leeds maintain their Premier League status.

There have been calls to hand him a new deal after an “excellent” season.

However, Darlow appears destined to leave Elland Road as a free agent at the end of the month.

For United, he could represent the perfect experienced backup goalkeeper without placing any strain on the transfer budget.

Securing a player of his experience and reliability on a free transfer could prove to be outstanding business for INEOS.

Johnstone also carries an emotional connection to Old Trafford but any move for the Wolves goalkeeper would require United to negotiate a transfer fee.

The Red Devils have already secured an agreement for Atalanta star Ederson, and they are currently on the hunt for another marquee signing for the number six position.

United have not ruled out a third midfield arrival for a bargain fee. Southampton ace Shea Charles has been linked, and he could be prised away for around £20 million.

Charles had an impressive Championship season with the Saints. He scored a dramatic winner against Middlesbrough, which took them to the play-off final, only for them to be ousted due to the ‘spygate’ controversy.

The 22-year-old also made his mark in the Saints’ run to the FA Cup semi-final. The Manchester City graduate scored a late winner against Arsenal in the last eight.

Charles, who represents Northern Ireland, showed why he is highly rated with another sublime performance against France in a friendly on Monday evening.

Les Bleus went on to win 3-1 after a Michael Olise hat-trick, but Charles had a good outing.

The hardworking midfielder won a brilliant duel against Dayot Upamecano before putting the ball on a plate for Patrick Kelly to score shortly after the hour mark.

Prior to his assist, Charles delivered another sublime defence-splitting pass from the edge of the box, but William Saliba was on guard to block an effort on goal.

Apart from his goal contribution, Charles had 51 touches with a passing accuracy of 92 percent. He won 100 percent of his tackles (2/2) with a couple of recoveries.

The Saints midfielder proved his credentials against France’s potential World Cup starting XI, and we believe United should make an early approach to beat the competition.

Southampton find themselves in a potentially precarious financial position after the ‘spygate’ controversy, and a £20m transfer for Charles represents a good deal for United.

Man United could also sign a centre-back, with doubts surrounding the fitness of Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt.

Journalist Gaston Edul now reports that United are interested in Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Cristian Romero and are preparing an offer for him.

The Red Devils face competition from Barcelona — who have made him a priority target — and Atletico Madrid for his signature.

Romero is open to leaving Tottenham this summer, but it remains to be seen whether he would prefer a move to United over other suitors.

Spurs are also preparing for his departure, having signed Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi. They are also working on a deal for Brighton & Hove Albion’s Jan Paul van Hecke.

Romero initially joined Spurs on a loan deal from Atalanta in the summer of 2021, before the club made the move permanent the following year.

Previously described by former Spurs manager Thomas Frank as an ‘experienced player‘, Romero has grown in status at Tottenham, becoming their captain.

The 28-year-old is a widely known for his aggressiveness. He ranked second among Spurs players for tackles, interceptions and clearances per game in the Premier League last season.

He was also second for accurate passes and long balls per game, highlighting his ball-playing ability. He is also an attacking outlet, having scored four league goals.

However, Romero’s indiscipline makes him a risky signing for United. He has been sent off six times across all competitions since joining Spurs — the most of any Premier League player within that period.

The Mancunian giants are also targeting a left-footed centre-back, which could influence their interest in the right-footed Argentine.

Romero’s Tottenham teammate Micky van de Ven would be a better target for United.

The Red Devils have already secured an agreement to land Atalanta midfielder Ederson for £35 million upfront, and he is expected to join the club after the World Cup with Brazil.

The club are still aiming to add more quality in the centre of the park, and The Guardian cite that United are optimistic of beating the Cityzens to Anderson’s signature this summer.

Man City have already had an opening transfer bid worth £80m rejected for Anderson, and Forest are reportedly holding out for around £100m to sanction the 23-year-old’s exit.

United’s executives have not given up on Anderson and remain hopeful of persuading the midfielder.

Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been busy trimming costs at the club, but he would be prepared to meet Anderson’s wage demands, which could exceed £150,000 per week.

Anderson would be a phenomenal acquisition

Casemiro will leave the Red Devils when his contract expires on June 30. Manuel Ugarte could likewise head for the exit door. The club are actively looking to offload him.

United have already landed a quality signing in Ederson, but may ideally want a marquee number six from the transfer market. Anderson would be a perfect acquisition for the club.

The Englishman had a tremendous individual season with Forest last term. He won an impressive eight duels per league game alongside three tackles and eight recoveries.

Alongside his tireless work rate, Anderson completed 54 passes per outing with an accuracy of 86 percent. He also chipped in the final third with eight goal contributions in the league.

Anderson would be a solid upgrade on Casemiro due to his work rate and recovery pace. It was previously highlighted that United won’t overpay to bring Anderson to Old Trafford.

However, it now appears United accept that Anderson is worth £100m due to his immense potential and relatively young age (23). The onus is on the club’s hierarchy to convince him.
