This last year of school has gone
by so quickly. I’ve had so many great experiences and so many amazing
opportunities. I’ve also had the pleasure to meet dozens of influential people.
I graduate in 5 days with a Masters degree! I’m proud to say that I soon will
be the first person in my family to graduate with a Masters degree. I am so
grateful for my family for supporting me and loving me through the last few
years. They believed in me and still have faith that I have what it takes to be
successful doing what I love.

            I
have big plans for my future and I don’t count on them being easy. My parents
always told me that you could do anything you set your mind to. I believe them
and I believe in myself. I plan to move to NY in the near future to begin my
journey. I will work for a production company to gain experience and learn how
a real company operates. With in the next year or two I plan to take my
production company “Red Scarf Creative” and begin competing with all the big
name production companies all over the world. We make bold decisions and will
establish ourselves as a top film production company. We plan to specialize in the
production of music videos. We
will then move to commercials once we have created a reputation for quality
work. We are also in the planning stages of creating short films that we plan
on sending to festivals with in the next year.

            I
want to thank everyone who has followed this blog this past year. I hope you’ve
learned something new or at least were entertained by my opinions on the industries
latest updates. I will not continue posting on this blog but will continue
blogging on my own personal website as well as twitter and facebook. I have
provided links below for anyone who is interested in following this trip I call
life. Thank you and good day!

During this weeks blog post I will be talking about
alternative ways to fund your creative ventures. Everyone utilizes different
methods to fund their personal projects. Some people use their own money and
some people have bake sales. If a person is dedicated and has all their heart
put into their personal project; they will eventually find the funding to
produce.

There are several websites that you can visit that can help
you raise funds for your business ventures. I have found one website that’s
been around for a few years now that specializes in helping creative people
fund their own creative projects. This platform is known as KickStarter.com

The idea behind Kick Starter is brilliant. This is a video
platform where you create and edit your own pitch video for anyone to view on
the Kick Starter website. People are then able to view your pitch video and if
it is something that they are interested in, then they will donate to the
cause. There is a catch though.
You must set a goal for your project. You need to set an amount of money that
you need to create your project and you need to set an amount of time that you
have to raise that money. If you don’t meet your goal in time, then no money is
taken from the donor and you get squat. This insures that the people making the
videos don’t use the money for anything other then the projects as promised.

I have known several people who have used kick-starter to
fund their short films, clothing lines, and small businesses. Below I have attached a pitch video
that a close friend of mine created in order to gain funding for his short film
titled “Moon”. The project has been shot and is currently in the final editing
stages. Enjoy this clip and
Utilize this website, it is a great method to fund you creative projects.

On this weeks blog post I will be taking about an angel investor and business professional,Guy Kawasaki . Guy was born and grew up in a rough town in Honolulu, Hawaii
called Kalihi.

Guy claims that he was not poor but he had a tough childhood
growing up. He lived in a rough part of town and did see much of his father who
was always working.

One of Guy biggest role models growing up was his English
Teacher Harold Keables. Keables taught Guy that the biggest part of writing was
editing. This lead guy to writing
10 books. And as Guy jokes “one book ten times”

He has received his bachelors in psychology, Masters in from
UCLA and his Doctorate from Badson Collage. During Collage he worked for a
jeweler where he learned how to sell. Guy claims that this is where he begun
learning business.

After collage Guy went back and forth between many jobs
working for both Microsoft and Apple computers. Guy has also started several
businesses. One being an Angel investor firm called Garage.com. Guys business
helps small and up coming business raise money. Today Guy now invests money
into smaller companies to get them started in exchange for a percentage of the
company. Gradge.com is now a venture capital firm.

In one of Guys blogs he speaks about the Keys to writing a
successful business plan. Guy writes a business plan not just towards investors
explaining financials, but also towards management of a company explaining
objectives and then the how’s, when’s, where’s, and who’s.

Another helpful key I took from Guy was “Less is more”. Guy
says this referring to the length of business plans. Keeping a business plan at
20 pages or shorter will increase the chances that it will be read. Guy also
states that every 10 pages over 20 pages will give it a 25% less chance of
being read. Investors want you to get straight to the point. If it’s worth
their time, then they will throw you a bone.

So search engine optimization is my topic of this weeks blog
post. By reading some of my blogs you may have noticed that I post a bit about
filmmaking and photography… Well Photographers are known for having a large web
presence. A lot of photographers have websites with a large number of
impressions daily. If you don’t have a huge web presence and you’re a
photographer, I found the perfect website for you.

Check out this website. It has 10 awesome tips for Search
engine optimization!

http://blog.webdistortion.com/2009/03/26/seo-for-images-photography/

I will now go over a
photo of mine and show how I’ve utilized some of these tips. Image keyword
planning is the first tip. This tip is pretty much telling you to be specific.
Being broad is not going to get you to the top of search results on google.
This website used the example “Large oak tree” I’m going to use an example from
one of my own photos on flickr.

Happy old man

Jim was a happy man
today

83 years old and
still got it.

www.Getryansheehy.com

Tags below:

"Old man"
"hot girls" “83 year old man” “beach sunset” “napels florida”
"golf coast” “swimsuit model” “happy old man” “West coast” “models” “Bright
light"

“ Gorgeous swimsuit
models”

This photo also
appears in several groups that are targeted towards specific audiences. I
posted the photo in a few flickr groups such as Photography students,
flickrista, editorial photography, and group with experience. I gave this photo
a title that is comedic when it is paired with the photo. In the description I
included my website to promote myself.
My website is currently in the making and does not include much of my
work yet but it already has over 4000 page views in less then a month. Another
thing that I utilized is Tagging. With in my tagging I included several
essential tags that will help optimize my photo for search. I included things
such as photo description, location, and esthetics of the photo.

Please check out that
website and help yourself to some awesome tips!

I have provided a link to a Film Riot test shoot comparing both cameras side by side shooting the same scenes with the same lighting. It was very curious to how closely the images compared. I am an owner of the 5D Mark II. I love this camera and use it for both photography and for videographer. It is a great piece of equipment at a very affordable price to professional filmmakers. Unfortunately because of the design of this camera, there are many faults that come along with it. One huge problem is that the camera is shooting on a 21megapixel sensor.

The Red camera is shooting on a 14-megapixel sensor. This may confuse some users. To the average person a 21 mp camera sounds better then a 14 mp camera. So I will break this down for you. The 5D shoots HD video. 1920 x 1080 that is around the resolution of maybe 8 megapixels… possibly less. This being the case, 21 mp at a resolution of well over 5000 would have to squeeze down to the size of an HD size image. This comes with aliasing, line skipping, slow refresh rates, and rolling shutter. All of these problems are a huge down fall for DSLR users. The Red epic camera offers a 14 mp sensor. This is much better because there is no squeeze factor. This camera doesn’t just shoot HD video. This camera also shoots 2K 4K and 5K. These resolutions surpass those of 35mm motion picture film. With that said, 14mp has the same amount of lines as a 5K image.

This camera is the future of filmmaking. There have been several Hollywood films that have already begun shooting with this high quality digital camera. Films like the new Spiderman, and the New Pirates of the Caribbean. I am happy to say that I will be shooting a music video using the Red Epic camera in late September. I am very excited to be working with the Red jumpsuit apparatus again and being able to play with this amazing camera!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sieMkGRcxuU
This first video I choose to watch dealt with Youtubes very strict Copyright infringement laws. The narrator Anthony Lawson had a tiff with Youtube stating that one of his videos was in violation of copyright infringement. Youtube did not give him any other detail about his violation. Youtube had taken his video down and then threatened to take down his account and all of his videos if it ever happens again. Anthony compares Youtube to the Soviet Union stating that according to Youtube you are Guilty until proven innocent. Youtube penalizes you and then threatens you before they even tell you exactly the crime you committed. Anthony’s video is somewhat comedic and witty and it lightens the situation a bit. His case stands that his videos are all spoken on topics that are very opinionated and controversial. He believes that someone made a claim, which only inconvenienced him.
Charlie Crist Official Apology to David Byrne for Copyright Infringement
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4k13LmlcUE
This video was an Apology video sent to David Byrnes. Charlie who was running for a government position had an ad campaign that utilized David’s song with out his permission. Charlie got into a bit of trouble for this legally. This is a common law suit when it comes to film. People think that even if they purchase a song that they have licensing to it. I have already told myself that I will not be producing any promotional content with any songs that I do not have the rights to use. If I don’t have rights and the video doesn’t count as fair use, then the music should and will be left out.

Going out of business sales are a rip off.

This was a news bit from ABC news in 2008 that focused on liquidation sales from two closing companies Linen n things and Circuit city. There was a secret camera that they brought into the store that they used to uncover this conspiracy known as liquidation sales. This brings up lawsuits of misrepresentation, which can get their liquidators in a bit of trouble. The secret cameras revealed that the underneath the stickers that marked the new price, there were stickers that marked the old price. In most cases the old prices were 20-30 dollars cheaper on select items in the store. What the store did was boot all the prices up to the original retail price and then knocked them down 10-20%. The stores originally known for their deals would sell these same items on clearance for 30 to 50% cheaper. Misrepresentation can be a big factor in the advertising world that can potentially get you sued. As the filmmaker I would like to find out if misrepresentation would be targeted at the goods or services company or the filmmakers that create the advertisement.

I will be repeating a previous blog with all new information. This blog will focus on Entertainment Law and ways you can get sued. So listen up and do the opposite of everything you read here!

I read an article about one of Brittany Spears’s latest music videos “Hold it against me”. It is well known that this video is filled with product placement. That is because Sony is one of her largest endorsers. One thing that she could have gotten the filmmakers sued was the lack of advertising in the videos. I am sure that Brittany’s record label had a requirement of screen time that the Sony labels had to be in the video. If the Filmmakers did not provide enough advertising in the video then Sony would not be happy and probably try to sue the filmmakers.

http://www.billboard.com/news/britney-spears-hold-it-against-me-video-1005042232.story

While searching for lawsuits I stumbled upon a pretty good site that explains how to avoid sticky situations with the law. Always get the proper right for the music that you play in your films. There is more then one kind. You will need “Synchronization rights, a master use license, soundtrack rights, and performing rights…” This article also discusses rights and Licenses; also control of the project. Everyone behind the scenes must be on the same page for story as well as business and distribution.

http://entertainment-law.lawyers.com/blogs/archives/7811-Filmmakers-How-to-Avoid-Lawsuits,-Part-I-of-II.html

Probably one of the most recent law cases in Film would have to be the use Mike Tyson’s facial tattoo created by Victor Whitman. Mr. Whitman stated that Warner Brother’s did not attempt to contact him to gain rights to use his artwork to promote their film. This was a bad decision on Warner brother’s part. Victor had the ability to stunt the release date. Instead Warner bothers bought out Victors tattoo and now has the rights to the artwork for life. Warner brothers learned their lesson. Get rights or don’t use someone else’s material.
I recently started doing photography about a year ago. Since spring 2010 I have made a pretty large name for myself. Starting out I wanted my work to do the talking for me. I believe that with amazing content, amazing work will find you. And that’s exactly how it worked in my case.
I do many free TF photo shoots to get my foot in the door. TF is Time for photos… It is an agreement between you and a model that states that the shoot is strictly to enhance both of your portfolios. I love fashion so I decided to follow many fashion websites and blogs. These websites have a pretty large following. This is what I’m going to talk about today. A good way of getting your work seen is to email blogging sites to ask if they will post your work. If your work is truly good enough they will post it.
I have been published to sites such as Flickrista.com for photography. And YouTube’s Vimeo’s best filmmakers, YouTube channel. If your work is shown on highly viewed websites you are more likely to be viewed by a potential customer. It is a well known fact that people who have a large following have the ability to sell themselves or whatever they happen to be good at.
From my portfolio alone I have been able to big several-paid photo shoots and even my first publication via billboard shoot coming up in early July 2011.

In conclusion if you are a new or even amateur photographer looking to get your name out there I recommend contacting popular blogging sites. These sites will help people find you. I will list below a few fashion sites that are popular and can help build you a following.
In the past indie filmmakers who did not have distributors or publishers would submit their films to festivals hoping for the best. If these films did not win these festivals, the filmmakers wouldn’t be making any money from their work. Getting a distributor that can make you money is not an easy thing to do in the film industry. Distributors that make the money in the film industry have names such as Disney and Universal.

Distrify is changing the game. Distrify is the new form of Internet based self-distribution. The best thing about this is anybody can do it. Anyone with a completed film can submit to this website to make their films available for consumers to purchase. Distrify is acting similar to I tunes. You are able to view trailers on this website for free. After viewing the trailer it gives options to watch right away by purchasing a digital download or you can Order a hard copy DVD or blu-ray; whichever you supply to Distrify for distribution.

This is a great opportunity for indie filmmakers, but there are a few negative aspects that may be less appealing to the users. You are able to set your own price. Distrify expects 30% royalties of every download or purchase of your movie. This is equivalent to I tunes royalty rates with a few set backs. I tunes has millions and millions of users. Using I tunes you do need a popular movie, agent, or distributor to get your film onto I tunes. With Distrify anybody can submit which is great, but the site is new and does not have a strong following like I tunes does. A 30% royalty rate seems a bit high for a website that does not open your film up to many potential consumers.

All in all I think this is a great way for self-distribution. I would recommend it to any Indie filmmaker that is looking to sell their film.

I decided to ask him a few questions about his practice, personal life, and some tips producing a film, commercial, music videos, etc.

I first asked Jon where he went to school and what types of law does he practice. He told me that he does all types of law from Personal injury, workers compensation, to social security. He has also worked with Entertainment attorneys and was very knowledgeable on the subject. I then asked him about his personal life. I was curious to see if his busy work life interfered with his personal life. He told me that you must be able to balance work with your personal life. John has been at the beach with his family and been called by one of his clients. He understands his responsibilities and knows that as a Lawyer he is always on call even at the most inconvenient times… (3am in the morning). Even though he has a very busy workload, he is happily married and has two awesome kids.

I then asked him some questions that I thought would help me with my future in film productions. My first question was how would I go about getting the rights to use public locations. Jon told me that every state had a film commission that I could visit and talk to. They would be able to give me contacts to receive permits. He told me to be very specific with what I was asking for in regards to the locations. Also ask for more then I need. It’s better to have more then less. He also recommended talking to the cities police station to hire off duty cops to monitor the shoot. With the police on your side you would not have any problems getting your production shut down.

Thank you for reading my latest blog post. If you would like to visits Jon Benezette’s website to use his services you can find him at the URL below

For this post I will be talking about legal problems that can occur in the film and entertainment industries. There are several things that can go wrong on your side as the filmmaker or the opposing side being the client. Having a well thought out and written contract will lessen the chances of legal troubles with your business deals…

Steven Spielberg has a pretty famous case that is still yet to be settled. DreamWorks pictures decided to break off their distribution contract with Paramount. Spielberg is one of the owners of DreamWorks and Universal is tied to Paramount. This created an issue between Spielberg and Universal. There was a Noncompete agreement as well as a lifetime of royalties promised to Spielberg in his contract with Universal. This split will be negotiated until 2017!

A film production company “After Dark Films” has filed a lawsuit with the Iowa Film commission. The Reason behind this was that the state did not provide the amount of tax credits to the filmmakers as promised. Iowa’s taxpayers were not happy about spending their tax money on shooting movies.

Now I was checking out the video copilot blog and found some people talking about Noncompete agreements. Something I did not know was that they are illegal in California; where the majority of the film industry is located. That’s good to know if that is where I plan on working before I start my own business. The bloggers on this message board all were very against signing a Noncompete agreement. This contract can break you if you ever decide to leave a business. It creates commitment with the company but then you have nothing to fall back on if your relationship with your current job goes south.

Richard is one of worlds most well known and influential entrepreneur’s of all time. He started as a trouble making young man in high school to one of the world’s richest men owning dozens of his own original companies. He does not manage a single artist or product. He manages hundreds of managers who then manage his companies for him.
Richard’s leadership qualities started at a young age. When Richard was in high school he started a student magazine at his boarding school. He was a natural born leader. Along with Leadership Richard’s second most outstanding quality was the ability to have fun. Sometimes his fun would get him into a bit of trouble. While still in high school he got caught inside the Dean of his boarding schools house sleeping with his daughter. This almost got him expelled until he wrote a fake suicide letter that made him exempt from the expulsion. On Richards’s diploma upon graduating high school his dean wrote him a small note.

“Congratulations, Branson. I predict you will either go to prison or become a millionaire”.

From this point in his life Richard decided that he wanted to pursue music management. Richard started his first record label Virgin Records. One of the first artist Virgin Records recorded was the Sex Pistols in 1977. Today Virgin records signs some of the top artists in the entertainment industry. Virgin signs some major mainstream band such as 30 seconds to mars, Gorillaz, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Saosin, and the Spice girls.

Richard Branson is an innovator. He brings joy and fun to all oh his products. From Virgin records, to Virgin mobile, Richard incorporates sex into his businesses, which motivate younger crowds to buy his products in turn creating a following.
He is now the manager for an up and coming band Called Stockholm. I asked Jesse some questions that I had that would help me if I wanted to become an artist manager. I had a phone interview with him and this is everything that he had to say.

Q: What made you want to become an artist manager?

A: It’s really the music scene that motivated me to be an artist manager. I’m really not talented when it comes to music. So the best way to be apart of the industry for me was taking up the business side.

Q: Do you go after the artist that you enjoy listening too? Like would you manage a country singer if you didn't like country?

A: Yes I do prefer to manage bands that I enjoy listening to. I have to know this band inside and out. If I don’t enjoy what I’m listening too I wouldn’t exactly enjoy my job.

Q: Do you have a breaking price? If a country band gave you enough money would you manage them?

A: Well I guess you can put a price on about anything. If it was a big name country artist and I was going to be paid out the nose then I guess I would manage a country band.

Q: What stress you out the most about this job?

A: You must have a very open line of communication with the band that you are managing. Most music guys are big into the party scene. It’s very stressful when a no one answers their phone and you know they were drinking the night before.
Independent bands that are used to producing themselves are also a hassle. They want a manager but then try to manage themselves.

Q: Whats your favorite genre of music?

A: I like Hardcore and Metal music.

Q: What are your main responsibilities as an artist manager?

A: My main responsibilities with Stockholm are Promotions, Organizing and Booking. Once they become a bit bigger we will then hire a booking agent. I organize their recordings and all promotions from posters to face book to music videos.

Q: Do you have any tips for a starting artist manager?

A: Start out only managing band. Its a lot more work then you think. Problems come up that you wont expect and it’s a bit easier to manage 5 guys then 10. Once you learn the ropes with one band then maybe you will be ready to manage multiple bands. Always have a plan B no matter what situation is. And Keep an Open line of communication between you and the artist. Make sure that you are able to talk to them every day. If you lose track of them things will go down hill from there.

This whole conversation was done on the phone while I was taking notes. Everything written is a summary of what Jesse said. Very little is directly quoting Jesse. I hope you enjoyed reading my latest post!

So this week my blog topic is negotiation. When it comes to music videos or really any kind of video, you will have clients. These clients are going to want the lowest price but the most bang for their buck. You might also find yourself negotiating about payment plans, concepts, editing, and timing for deliverables. These are only a few things that you must discuss with your clients in order to have a successful production.
I was able to talk to Robby Starbuck and ask him a few questions about his past, how he became a music video director, and how he deals with his clients. Robby started producing his own live performance videos for some of his favorite bands. He produced great content in order to build himself a reputation. After shooting for the fun, bands began to pay him to create more creative works of art. Robby stated, “My business is built around having a solid reputation that is created through actions not words.” This is meaningful in a way that relates to his status in the film and entertainment industry. Clients feel safe investing their money into Robby’s films because they know that his reputation is for producing exceptional content.
I also questioned Robby about his relationship with his clients. He says that he likes to affiliates himself with his clients through phone calls, meetings, lunches, etc. Not only does he build a relationship with his clients but also other film industry professionals. He is very easy going and great at giving advice to his clients and other filmmakers, including myself!
Kirby creatively lays down the fact about entertainment. None of the material or the thoughts in his video is opinionated. They are facts backed up with proof. This concept of lacking or in some films no originality is not new, Kirby put his spin to the case and goes in depth from shot composition, storyline, to oddball oddities that no non filmmaker really pays any attention to.

Kirby takes notice to the subject but does not bash or criticize it in anyway. He states in the beginning of his video blog that audiences take on to subjects, films, and entertaining content that seems familiar to them. This is why the top selling box office films are typically sequels, remakes, or an idea or concept spawned from something different. Trends in filmmaking become trends because the content is made to suit an audience. For an example hot guys are placed in movies to attract young girls. The fan bases for the twilight movies are crazy. Every young girl wants to be on team Edward or Team Jacob. That was a tactic of the past that was adapted through out time. Also while speaking of the movie Twilight the movie was taken from the popular twilight books written by Stephenie Meyer.

Another reason why these remakes are produced is due to the complications of creating completely original content. This is not an easy thing to do because the human mind draws from thing that it already knows. There is so much content out there that it isn’t easy to do something that hasn’t already been done. Another reason is the audiences. Most audiences wont see something that they haven’t heard of. Some thing that isn’t popular won’t generally make a lot in the box office.

All in all, Kirby’s got a great video blog. He comes out with a new one every season and he is currently on his 3rd. They are like mini TV shows on the Internet. I recommend them!
You can find this article at the link provided below.

http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2010/11/how_mtv_plans_to_resurrect_mus.html

This Article speaks about music videos taking a step forward in the film industry. Big name Directors are starting to collaborate with bands during their down time to produce very story heavy music videos. An example of this would be some of Lady GaGas newest videos such as “Telephone”. MTV is planning to Finance these short films / music videos with a lot larger budget then they have been in previous years. One of the main differences from these music videos to past one would be the use of A-list talent. They want these videos to be of the greatest quality and for the audience to want to watch and re-watch these films. A quote from Gale in this article says "I really do approach these more as films than music videos,” Telling a story is what these directors are born to do. That’s why a lot of music video music video directors often transition to Hollywood blockbuster films. A big name in both industries would be Michael Bay. Michael started off his career creating music videos. His stories and creativity showed in his productions. Eventually a production company signed him and he was off Directing The Transformers Series.

This Article excites me for my future in the film industry. I know that I wont always get to work on the projects that are creative and exciting; such as commercials for toothpaste or other jobs that I wont necessarily have a huge creative input. This article is making a larger number of jobs for filmmakers to produce quality music videos.
I hope this Article review was informative to you everyone. Stop by in a few weeks for my next Film industry blog post.

New York City Film Commission

For my week four blog post, the industry association that I chose was the New York City film commission. I have the website linked below.

http://www.nyc.gov/html/film/html/index/index.shtml

The NYC Film commission is a very useful tool for me, and for any filmmaker looking to live and pursue a career in NYC. This website offers a wide variety of services that cater to filmmakers that live in NYC or filmmakers who plan to shoot in NYC.

One very helpful thing that this page offers is resource. The resources page comes in handy to all filmmakers, but is used for more of the traveling independent filmmaker. This page Offers production guides to the city, studios and soundstages, insurance, permits, and crew. Those are just a few of the key sections on the resource page. This would be great for me. If I plan to shoot a commercial In NYC this page would point me in the right direction for anything that I would need. I would not need any of my own gear or crew because all of the rental houses, and experienced crew are listed on the NYC film commission website.

Another thing this site offers is information about the union and job opportunities. There is a section on this site for production companies to create job listings and help wanted listings. This would be very helpful to me. The NYC film union has the highest amount film production in the state. For most filmmakers in NYC joining and working in the union is the best way to go. Weather you’re a cameraperson or a producer you can work in the NYC film union. This website also has a section for internships. Anyone the is beginning in the film industry needs to have an internship to get their foot in the door.

All in all this is a great website for filmmakers in NYC it has the ability to help you completely plan and organize a production. I plan to use this site for industry updates and information in the future.

Raghava KK - Ted.com Review

After researching and watching a few videos on TED.com I was able to find someone who has inspired me to do what I love. This man is Raghava KK and His speech is titled the five lives of an Artist.

http://www.ted.com/talks/raghava_kk_five_lives_of_an_artist.html

I consider myself to be an Artist. I follow and respect all genres of art whether it is painting, sculpting, fashion, photography, or films. This man Raghava has a great story to tell. He speaks of all his struggles as an artist and his successes as an artist. His story is very real to me. He speaks of his failures and he’s not ashamed to admit that he has had quite a few.
Raghava speaks in the beginning about being “born again”; a mentor of his told him this at a young age. He uses this mentality to his advantage. Every time life throws him and his career a curve ball that he is unable to hit, Raghava uses this down fall as a fresh start. He’s transitioned through his life from a child hood doodler to a well-respected painter. He’s moved from Idea to New York and back. He’s had a very up and down career, and this man is still very young.
Something that has stayed constant through out Raghava’s career was his relationship with the youth. He liked to visit schools and teach about the art. This is something that anyone could respect him for. Giving back to the community with out being asked is a very noble thing to do. This is the beginning for Raghava, and he is on his way to building a positive reputation and memorable legacy for himself.
Something Original that I love about his work is that it is larger then life. A canvas is to small to contain his creative ideas. He paints on Canvas the size of billboards. Another thing that I admire about his work is his lack of conservation. His work is very explicit and not necessarily appropriate for all audiences. Certain things that Happen in his life reflect through his paintings. For example, His Mother was diagnosed with a life threatening disease and She wasn’t expected to live much longer. This showed in Raghava’s work. His portraits of beauty and excitement turned to ugly and horror. This was the cause of one of his many downfalls. Because of his content, nobody wanted to buy his art. His Art is well known and well respected. His love for his art is what inspires me. I want to be at his level. I want my art to inspire others.

Robbie Starbuck is a truly “one of a kind” Director. Robbie directs and produces some of the most controversial videos for a wide variety of very diverse bands. Robbie has worked with bands such as Silverstein, Asking Alexandria, August Burns Red, and The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus; Only to name a few.

One of the main similarities in All of Robbie’s work is something that really inspires him to do what he does today. Robbie is very inspired by Dichotomy, Which is like polar opposites. For example Dark vs. Light, or Good vs. Evil. Those examples happen to be some of the major themes in a lot of his work.

Robbie Isn’t only a very creative director, but he is a very intelligent director. He is very business savvy. Robbie knows how to promote himself and he knows how to make money. Robbie is Young, and many major production companies tried to pick him up as a director. Robbie didn’t second-guess these offers. He turned them down immediately and started his own production company titled RSMcreative. The reason behind creating this company was to get his full share of the money the he worked for. Robbie is smart and doesn’t need a manager or a distributor. And for any reason if he needed one, they would work for him. Robbie strives to be a leader in his industry; therefore he works for no one but himself.

One of Robbie’s videos that truly inspires me is his video “Order” By Mother/Father. This video is very controversial and has a theme of good vs. evil that is represented though out the entire video. After watching the video the Side that is good and the side that is evil is very debatable. You have a cult like group that seems to have done something to this black man running through a field. At the end, Two cloaked black men appear with they’re hands up as if they are putting a spell on the cult. The cult dies and the video is over. You can debate this in many aspects. Give the video a watch up top and let me know whom you think is good and whom you think is evil!

I know Harry Potter is not a music Video, but I'm a filmmaker and That includes everything. Not Just music videos. So In my opinion Harry Potter Fans are up there with the Star wars and the Lord of the rings fans. When I got the theatre with my Girlfriend 2 hours early for the primere the place was mobbed with hundreds of harry potter character impersonators. I think it’s great that this book and film has created a very large fan base. I knew people that showed up for the primere up to 7 hours early just to wait in line for the movie.

Primeres are great. I love going to see something for the first time. I know its not a Hollywood primere “first showing ever” but it’s a great time and so much more exciting then seeing a movie after its been in theatres for over a week. When you’re sitting in the theatre at a primere, you know that everyone who’s there is just as excited to see this movie as you are. The excitement and anticipation is raging though everyone, which makes the event as a whole so much more worth while then seeing it on any ordinary showing.

Primeres are a great way to build excitement for any kind of event including music videos. I recently attended a Music video primere of a video that I worked on camera team for at Planet Hollywood in Downtown Disney. The Video was don’t stop Now by Stockholm, and the video was Directed by Justyn Moro. There is a link at the bottom to the official music video. Primeres raise excitement for these videos which makes the release more epic and in turn makes more people interested in viewing your video.

That’s a Rap for this post, Stop by next week for my next Topic of discussion.

Music Television?

Okay so we all know that everyone’s favorite music TV station known, as MTV no longer plays “Music”. Its Ironic that the station is even allowed to keep “music” in their name. Anyway I am not here today to talk about MTV the TV channel that doesn’t play music. I want to talk about the website “MTV.com” More specifically their music video section.

http://www.mtv.com/music/videos/

Check out that link above. Personally I think a music website should know more about music. They have a few pages of music videos. The videos are great but I know there is so much more out there. Another problem would have to be the variety. The only music videos I seen was ones of songs that I hear on the radio. There were 4 or 5 videos for each artist, which really leaves out so many other artists. According to mtv.com the only videos worth showing in the POP genre are Katie Perry, Brittany Spears, Christina Aguilera, Michael Jackson, and maybe one or two others. If you went on youtube you could find hundreds of signed artists that compare and surpass the artists shown on mtv.com. I am always on the run and don’t spend too much time on the Internet. But the hour or so a day that I am; I seem to have knowledge of many great bands and many great videos that are not featured on mtv or mtv.com.

What I Recommend doing is looking up one of your favorite music videos. Pick one and find out who directed it. You can probably find this information on Wikipedia or Google. After you find out who directed it go to their website or blog. They may have a link to a personal Youtube or Vimeo account. Now you can see some of their other work. It may be more artistic then some of the boring band shots you see on MTV. And the music depending on your taste might be better. I hope that this post can help you find some new music and maybe a new sense of appreciation to the people who produce these videos!

Have a Great day everyone! Come back next week for a new post on a new Director!

Metric "Stadium Love"
