I did not get off to a very fast start this morning, since the first part of the special stage was quite tough, with all the dunes and all those spectators. Moreover, the first special of the Dakar is always more challenging, since you need to find your focus on the race, and the new GPS is somewhat smaller, so I really was very careful. Fortunately, the special's last 20 kilometers were very fast and I was able to drive much more aggressively.

Vettel wins India GP

Sebastian Vettel described his victory in the Indian Grand Prix as a "fantastic performance" and a "very smooth race". Vettel led every lap of the race and set the fastest lap on his way to victory to complete a perfect weekend having qualified on pole position. With Jenson Button never able to close within less than 2.5 seconds Vettel never looked seriously troubled, and he admitted that the only slight concern he had during the grand prix was the amount by which his lead was cut around the pit stops. "It's obviously a very good race for us," Vettel said.
"I enjoyed the time in the lead very much, obviously they had a little bit of a fight with Jenson in the distance who was always about four seconds (back). Strangely he kept closing in around the pit stops. I don't know why, I was pushing very hard in to the box and out of the box, but we seemed to lose a little bit there so we need to understand.
"But on circuit it was obviously crucial to manage the tyres, make sure that you have enough of them at the end.
So all in all it was a very smooth race, the car was very well balanced; I felt even a little bit more confident on the hard tyres on the end. But overall a fantastic performance." Vettel also said that he was struggling to enjoy the victory as much as usual in the wake of the recent accidents that claimed the lives of Dan Wheldon and Marco Simoncelli. "To be honest with you it's a little bit mixed emotions. On the one hand I'm very happy, it's the first grand prix in India and I'm very proud to be the first winner, and I think we can be as a team. But on the other hand, looking back at last weekend we lost two of our mates. I didn't know Dan Wheldon but obviously he was a big name in motorsport. I got to know Marco Simoncelli this year, and obviously our thoughts are with them.
Yes we are ready to take certain risks when we jump in to the car but we obviously pray that every time nothing happens, but sometimes we get reminded and it's the last thing that we want to see."

Double world champion Sebastian Vettel

After becoming a double world champion at the Japanese Grand Prix, Sebastian Vettel insisted there is no secret to Red Bull's success, just a very good team. Vettel finished third at Suzuka to ensure he took his second title with four races remaining. After a dominant year for Red Bull, in which Vettel took 12 pole positions and nine victories, he gave full credit to his team. "There is no secret, it's step-by-step," Vettel said. "I think in a way the hardest thing, after winning the title last year when it was so close and so exciting, was to go out and do it again, and even though you know how to do, it doesn't allow you to make all these little steps. I could not have got close to this alone, so I needed all the support I could get, from the team, from Mark [Webber] and from everyone outside the team working for me.
It's as confusing as the first one I have to say. So it's hard to find the right words." He said taking the title at Suzuka, the scene of several championship deciders down the years, was also very special. "It's phenomenal, especially next to the strong result again today," he added. "To win the championship here is just fantastic. There are lots of things that you want to say but you can't remember all of them. I'm just so, so thankful to everyone in the team. We've got so many people here at the track, but also in Milton Keynes working day-in-day out every day, pushing hard to build those to cars to fight for the points and also fight for the championship. We find ourselves in a very, very strong position and it's great to achieve the results we set for ourselves going into this year already."

Red Bull Ken Roczen rocks

Red Bull Teka KTM’s Ken Roczen on Sunday sealed the MX2 World championship title with one clear round in hand. The 17-year old talent was in perfect form when he attacked the track at Gaildorf, Germany in the GP of Europe. Urged on by thousands of loyal fans and the entire KTM factory team Roczen settled the issue after the second moto to pick up his first senior world championship title but was still shadowed by his teammate and toughest competitor Jeffrey Herlings. With the victory, Roczen, widely recognized as one of the hottest MX properties around and still only 17, became Germany’s first motocross champion in 40 years and his home crowd gave him a reception that he will long remember. Roczen signed with the Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Team in January 2011. Shortly after he grabbed plenty of attention riding AMA Supercross Lites in the West Coast series in the USA.
Ken, on a fast learning curve in the highly competitive series even secured his first SX podium towards the end of the season. He even had a couple of impressive outings on the KTM 350 SX-F in the open class. A favorite throughout the world championship season, Roczen started strongly, then overcame a mid season lapse to settle down to a string of unassailable victories in the second half that allowed him to put his stamp firmly on the title. Red Bull Teka KTM factory rider Tony Cairoli on Sunday sealed the 2011 MX1 World Championship title to retain the number one position in the sport for yet another year. It was the Italian rider’s fifth world title and another testament to his superb skill on all racing surfaces, his legendary fighting spirit and his wily race tactics that often see him go on the attack in the closing stages of a race. Cairoli settled the matter of retaining the title after the first moto at Gaildorf, Germany in the GP of Europe with one moto and one GP still in hand. It is the second consecutive year that Cairoli has triumphed on the light and lively KTM 350 SX-F factory bike, developed with input from KTM’s factory team boss Stefan Everts and so successfully launched in 2010. The Italian factory rider’s season was, however, not as straightforward as he would have liked.
After a setback with injury in the opening round in Bulgaria he then set about showing his usual tactical brilliance and absolute determination to consistently score as many points as possible to put him in range of the title. Despite his knee injury in Bulgaria Tony still managed to pick up 25 championship points. In fact that proved to be the lowest scoring round of the competition. His unsettling injury problem may have kept him leaning on the side of caution in the first half of the season but he was still rarely off the podium. Read more here...

Vettel: The win was within reach

The defending World Champion started Sunday's race at the Hungaroring in pole position but he slipped to P2 behind Lewis Hamilton as he struggled on the wet track. Things didn't get much better after the second round of pit stops as he dropped to fourth behind the two McLarens and his team-mate Mark Webber.
However, the move to put him on super soft tires for his last stint, as well as the decision not to bring him in for a change to intermediate tires, paid off for the German and he was able to move up to P2.
"I was struggling a bit in the first stint with the intermediate tires, Lewis (Hamilton) was a bit faster, then I lost it down into Turn 2," Vettel said after the race. "I lost the lead and obviously the circuit was drying, so we maybe could have come in a lap earlier.
"On the super soft tire I was feeling quite good initially but there was quite a lot of drop off, I think it was the same for all of us with the track being quite green. I think both times I would love to have pitted one lap earlier, although it was quite fun to see the McLaren's very close again. But then in the last stint, I had to let Jenson go."
Vettel finished just 3.50 seconds behind Button in the end, but he says he couldn't push any harder as he had a problem with his brakes.
"I felt that I had a bit more speed in the car but I had a couple of problems with the brakes and it was difficult to know how the car would be at the end. I couldn't push as hard as I would like to, second today is an important step, but I think the win was within reach today and we didn't get it.
"We need to work hard because both of the McLarens are very, very strong in all sorts of conditions, so it's clear now for a couple of races that they have done a step forward. We need to make sure that we come back, definitely."

Sebastian Vettel wins Monaco Grand Prix

Sebastian Vettel triumphs after Monaco Grand Prix drama. Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel won his first Monaco Grand Prix and pulled further ahead in the championship. Ferrari's Fernando Alonso and McLaren's Jenson Button, who briefly led the race, had closed in on Vettel but a late safety car helped the German.
Alonso finished second for the first time in 2011, with Button third and Red Bull's Mark Webber fourth.
Vettel had taken his first pole in Monte Carlo during a qualifying session which had been overshadowed by Sergio Perez's heavy crash which kept him out of the race.
Button, who started alongside Vettel on the front row, tried to play a decisive card in the race when he triggered the pit stops on lap 15.
Vettel had no choice but to respond and came in for his first stop on the following lap, but his crew of mechanics in the Red Bull garage did not have the tyres ready. The resulting delay saw Vettel return to the track in second place.
With a clear track ahead of him, Button quickly built a lead over the world champion. But while a clever strategy call helped McLaren and Hamilton win in China, this time their attempt to out-think Red Bull backfired.
Button was on a three-stop strategy and when he came in for a second time Vettel regained the lead, and Button dropped to third after his final stop. The Englishman refused to blame his team's strategy for failing to deliver him his first win of the season.
"We had to take the risk and go for more stops so we shouldn't be upset with what we did," said Button. "The team did a great job this weekend and I was happy with our strategy. We had to try to do something different to beat Vettel, it was working but it didn't work in the end."
Alonso had muscled his way past Webber and up to third with a typically aggressive start and the Spaniard gained another place thanks to a two-stop strategy.
Vettel looked in real danger as his one-stop strategy meant he had to nurse his tires for more than 60 laps. But the restart after the second safety car meant the three leading cars were able to change their tyres and Vettel comfortably cruised to the line.
Alonso said: "Seven days ago we were two minutes behind the leaders and now we are fighting for victory. "The car is identical to Barcelona so [this result] is just related to Monaco's unique circuit.
"It is also true that the car is working well on the supersoft tyres. They will be available for the next two races so hopefully we can repeat this performance."
Hamilton had a rollercoaster of an afternoon and was constantly in the thick of the action. After a tussle with Michael Schumacher's Mercedes, Hamilton received a drive-through penalty after he bumped Massa in a three-way battle with Webber at the hairpin.
To the end of the Grand Prix the reappearance of the safety car released the pressure on Vettel, and when the race resumed 20 minutes later with the three leaders all having changed their tyres, Vettel comfortably held off Alonso and Button to add the Monaco title to his growing collection.
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said it had been particularly pleasing to win after the team had experienced a series of unexpected problems during the race.
"We had problems at Sebastian's first stop, we had radio issues and didn't get the tyres on that we wanted, so we had to change our strategy," said Horner.
"The main thing was that we didn't panic. We tried something a bit different, which was very aggressive, but Seb was making it work - that was what won him the race today."He was pretty confident, kept talking to his engineers, focusing on areas he could be quick."

Vettel holds off Hamilton in Barcelona

Sebastian Vettel took his fourth win of the season as he held off Lewis Hamilton to win an enthralling Spanish Grand Prix.
Vettel pipped Hamilton by just 0.6s as the McLaren proved to be a match for Red Bull in race trim. Jenson Button recovered from a bad start to take third place, this time making a three-stop strategy work, while pole-sitter Mark Webber lost out badly behind Fernando Alonso and finished fourth ahead of the Ferrari. The race result took a little while to be confirmed, however, as Hamilton, Button, Webber and Jaime Alguersuari were all under investigation for their pace under yellow flags, eventually being reprimanded but not penalized.
Vettel was the first of the leaders to pit and was released right behind Button and Massa, but dispatched both on his out lap. Alonso responded by pitting immediately, as did Webber, and Alonso maintained the lead. Webber was stuck behind Massa - who had been passed by Button - and when Hamilton pitted he got the jump on the Red Bull.
The front three ran very close together during the second stint, but as both Vettel and Hamilton could use their DRS, neither could make much of an impression. Button pitted later and managed to exit ahead of Petrov and Rosberg. He closed up on Schumacher within a lap and passed him as Schumacher ran wide through turn three.
Vettel pitted early for a second time, and even though Alonso pitted immediately afterwards, Vettel managed to use his fresh tyres to undercut the Ferrari and in clear air was able to show the true Red Bull pace. Lewis Hamilton stayed out for an extra three laps to try and jump ahead of Alonso, and managed to do so by a second. Hamilton then pulled away and started to use his fresher tyres to close the gap at the front.
Alonso and Webber both pitted together on lap 30 for the third time, and matched each other by putting on the hard tyre. As they exited the pits Alonso just got out ahead, and the pair started to battle over position. Webber made a move down the inside in to turn ten but Alonso came back up the inside in to the next corner. As they fought, the three-stopping Button cruised up behind them and took them both on the same lap; first bravely round the outside of Webber in to turn one and then up the inside of Alonso through turn 11.

Vettel second Mark Webber exceptional performance

Vettel was second just ahead of his team-mate Mark Webber, who put in an exceptional performance to take third after starting 18th on the grid. Lewis Hamilton took a brilliant victory in the Chinese Grand Prix, passing Sebastian Vettel within the final five laps to win an engrossing race in Shanghai. Jenson Button lost out to Webber on the penultimate lap, with Nico Rosberg fifth and Felipe Massa sixth.
It was an odd race, that began with Button and Hamilton leading from Vettel, before Vettel repassed them as the first pit stops were made. He jumped Hamilton just before his stop on Lap 13, but admitted he was somewhat bemused when leader Button initially drove into the Red Bull pit before frantically being waved through to McLaren next door!
Rosberg had stopped on Lap 12 and then had a spell in the lead for Mercedes from Lap 17 until he stopped again on Lap 25. That put Vettel back in the lead until he stopped for the second and last time on Lap 31, whereupon Massa had a spell in front. The Brazilian was right back on form, comfortably outpacing team mate Fernando Alonso this day.
Such are the characteristics of the Pirellis that the form of races is not established until the final stints, and by Lap 40 Vettel was out front, 3.6s ahead of Massa with Rosberg third from Hamilton, who had overtaken Button. Steadily Massa reeled in Vettel, but it was the McLarens that were on the move. Hamilton took Rosberg on Lap 42, Massa on 44, and then slashed a 3.7s deficit to Vettel before forcing his way by in Turn Seven on the 52nd lap.
For a while it seemed that Button might follow suit, but Webber had the freshest tyres. He ran the primes until Lap 10, then switched to the softer options and, having made his final stop on Lap 40, was flying. As Button began to move in on Vettel, having passed Massa and Rosberg, Webber was stalking him and dived by on the penultimate lap to make the podium after a superb effort.
Three-stopping Rosberg was left fifth, ahead of the disillusioned Massa and Alonso for whom two-stop strategies had not worked out, while a decent afternoon's work left Schumacher eighth. Renault's two-stop strategy didn't do the trick either, but Vitaly Petrov took ninth place from Paul di Resta on the 52nd lap, and Kamui Kobayashi pushed the Scottish rookie out of the points for the first time in his short Formula One career soon afterwards.
By the finish Di Resta was under heavy pressure from Nick Heidfeld too, after the German had had an adventurous race trapped in the midfield. He held off the Renault, however, but was disappointed to miss out on a point after yet again being Force India's faster driver.
Rubens Barrichello was 13th for Williams after a race spent dicing mainly with Heikki Kovalainen's Lotus, while Toro Rosso's promising afternoon evaporated right at the start as Jaime Alguersuari and Sebastien Buemi dropped back. The Spaniard became the race's sole retirement when he lost the righ-rear wheel after his first pit stop, while Buemi had to be satisfied with 14th after a deeply disappointing afternoon.
The Swiss driver headed home Adrian Sutil, who was involved in a collision for which Sauber's Sergio Perez was given a drive-through penalty. The Mexican finished 17th, behind Kovalainen, and ahead of Williams' Pastor Maldonado and Jarno Trulli in the other Lotus, who had relatively uneventful races. Jerome D'Ambrosio was again Virgin's faster runner, heading home Timo Glock in 20th and 21st places, while Tonio Liuzzi caught and passed HRT team mate Narain Karthikeyan on the final lap after having to make up a lot of ground following a drive-through penalty early on for jumping the start.
Vettel now has 68 points from Hamilton's 47, with Button third on 38 from Webber's 37, Alonso's 26 and Massa's 24. Red Bull still lead the constructors' championship, with 105 points to McLaren's 85, Ferrari's 50 and Renault's 32.

Vettel wins one of most dominant drives of his career

Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel won the season-opening Australian Grand Prix with a comfortable lights-to-flag victory in Melbourne. He led home Lewis Hamilton, who took a solid second place, while an excellent drive from Vitaly Petrov secured third. Petrov was just 1.5 seconds ahead of Fernando Alonso, with Mark Webber fifth having lost out to Alonso in the final round of pit stops.
From the moment the five red lights disappeared to finally raise the curtain on the new campaign, the 23-year-old German was never troubled. Vettel's margin of victory was a yawning 22 seconds to McLaren's Hamilton, who had earlier damaged his car in running wide at turn one.
"I don't think it was an easy race, the start was crucial. I tried to hold the gap but then you see how quickly things change.
Jenson Button came home sixth, an impressive recovery after a drive-through penalty, ahead of the one-stopping Sergio Perez and the other Sauber of Kamui Kobayashi. Felipe Massa and Sebastian Buemi (Toro Rosso) completed the top ten.

Sebastian Vettel unleashed an electrifying display of pace to capture the first pole of the new season for Red Bull in Australia. With just a few hours to the start of the first Formula 1 Grand Prix 2011 here a analysis by BBC F1 co-commentator David Coulthard who knows Sebastian Vettel well as a former rival and in his position as a consultant to the German's Red Bull team.
Q: Will winning the title make Vettel a better driver??
"Drivers go through various stages in their career. Winning the title will move Vettel out of the first one - when, if you like, you're young and somewhat naive and everything's new and exciting and you're driving on your instincts - into the next one, when you're established and starting to mature.
"Drivers are very young when they come into F1 these days - and Sebastian was no exception; he made his debut at 19. So they have not had the chance to develop fully into adult life before being put under the spotlight of the media and public, and all the adulation that comes with that.
"I remember people saying to me: 'Don't change.' But the reality is you have to change. Your environment changes, you're growing as an individual, you develop tastes.
"That's a long-winded way of saying what I've been impressed with about Sebastian is how inwardly calm and confident he is without being arrogant.
"If you compare him to Michael Schumacher, Michael was often pigeon-holed as having what appeared to be an arrogant persona. At no time has Seb displayed that in his short time in F1.
"Whether that's the way he's wired, the way he's been brought up, we'll find out in time. But I would be surprised if he became a slightly distant and aloof champion.
"He has achieved a goal and a milestone in his life and reset the counter and is now going to try to do it again, in the same way as Fernando Alonso has always had the same approach to his racing, whether he was at Minardi, Renault, McLaren or Ferrari.
"Fernando has a steel edge to him - his whole demeanour shouts: 'Don't mess with me, otherwise I'll use all the tools at my disposal to screw you back.' But if you don't poke him, he doesn't come looking for trouble.
"I've always respected his position, even when it was easy to give him a bashing when it was Lewis and him in the same team and it was the Brit and the 'nasty Spaniard'.
"You've got to respect someone's position if they're consistent in what they ask for and how they react. I think that's a quality not a negative and it's one Vettel has, too."
Q: How does Vettel approach his racing?
"He keeps his private life very private. That's a conscious decision - he's a racing driver, he comes to the track and does his racing and when he's not at the track he does whatever else it is he does.
"He's very clear on what he wants and how he expects things to be, but equally if it's explained to him that's not the way it's going to be, then he moves on. He fights the battles he can win and steps over the ones that are just going to use energy.
"So there's a high degree of intelligence and social skills there that I'm hoping will make him a very good ongoing champion and representative of the sport.
"It should also ensure he can really enjoy this period of his life because the demands on his time will increase as he gets more and more recognised."
Q: Will he make fewer mistakes than in 2010?
"Irrespective of whether he'd won the championship or not, you've got to hope you make fewer mistakes as you go through life.
"Inevitably, when your job is balancing a racing car on the limits of adhesion, then occasionally you will get that wrong.
"Alonso hasn't made a great deal of mistakes in his career but he dropped it in his McLaren year in Japan and he dropped it in Spa last year while running all alone.
"These guys will make mistakes. They are only human.
"What will be telling is how Vettel deals with the aftermath - such as walking away doing the 'nutter' symbol after he and Mark Webber crashed into each other in Turkey. I think Seb would do that differently next time around having lived through that.
"You've got to imagine there has to be something that clicks within you when you've achieved your goal and won a world championship - a tick against the inner peace box.
"I'm curious to see how he reacts. I'm a fan not because I have an association with the team, but because he shows a level of respect for the sport but equally he knows it's his journey and he has to do it himself without getting a leg-up."
Q: What are Vettel's F1 ambitions?
"It's interesting, listening to some of the things he says, that he clearly wants to set new statistical records. Often during the race he will ask what the fastest lap time is so he can better it despite no points being on offer."
"Whether that is about statistics or ego is an open question, but I think it's more about statistics. I think he's entirely comfortable in his own skin.
"I've read that he has his sights on beating Schumacher's records. He's never come out and said that, but I suspect that's true. Look at the way he's going after fastest laps.
"Unless he turns around and says that's not the case, we have to presume he's doing it for the pleasure of having the fastest lap, and having it down in the record books."
Q: How ultimately good is he?
"This is one of the things we're going to find out - is he has good as Hamilton, is he as good as Alonso? Well, that remains to be seen. I think it's a valid question and it has to be asked.
"So far, in terms of top-line drivers, Vettel has only been up against Mark Webber in equal equipment.
"Mark had a long journey to a front-running car - from Minardi to Jaguar to Williams before going to Red Bull, where he was involved in building the team up to where it is today.
"I think that took the wind out of Mark's sails a bit. And when he got a winning car, he was already 33 and had a lot of other stuff going on in his life, such as being an investor in a GP3 team.
"The difference between Vettel and Webber last season was on average about a 10th of a second in qualifying, which is absolutely nothing. And you have to remember that Mark was never able to achieve the same weight distribution in the car for qualifying because he is a bigger, heavier guy.
"If Mark could have got the weight to absolutely the right position, it could have been a 10th the other way. And track position being king, suddenly the whole balance of power changes.
"You've got two guys with potentially equal speed, one with the responsibilities that you assume through life and the other starting his journey and presumably with fewer commitments away from the track.
"If he was up against Mark five years ago without all the other stuff going on, then maybe Mark would have walked away with the championship.
"He did lead it for most of the season, and it's such a fine line between success and failure.
"So I think Seb was allowed a comfort zone - because of his natural speed and his youth.
"Let's wait and see. I just hope we get the chance to see a real good wheel-to-wheel battle between them and Fernando and Lewis while they're all at their peak.
"Seb is very much at the beginning of his career. He is the youngest world champion, a class driver, a great ambassador for the sport. He has, in many ways, rebuilt some of the bridges that were damaged during Michael's time as a German world champion.
"He's very special. I'm a fan. He's a very level-headed young racer, and he's at an exceptionally high level. But I think it's fair to say in the fullness of time we'll be able to answer more questions."

A "must see" is the new new TV commercial from Mercedes Benz with the 2 Mercedes GP drivers Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher as well former Formula 1 world-champion Mika Hakkinen (McLaren Mercedes). The Tv commercial was created by the Jung von Matt Werbeagentur GmbH and Redbull within the clip is a hint who Mercedes GP is aiming at - the current title holder Redbull! It's a funny clip worth watching.

Webber kicks off his weekend with the fastest time

Mark Webber got his season off to the best possible start by topping the times during the first free practice session of his home Australian Grand Prix. As predicted, the Red Bull looked quick with Sebastian Vettel second fastest - 0.327 off Webber's 1:26.831 - and Fernando Alonso's Ferrari nearly a second adrift. However, the times should not be taken too literally as fuel loads are completely unknown and the drivers only ventured out on hard tires, saving their set of softs for the second session.
But for Webber it was the start of the mind games with his team-mate, as the Australian clocked the fastest lap on his very last attempt after Vettel had looked set to finish on top. It will only be a minor victory in the grand scheme of things, but a confidence booster nonetheless.
The tires look likely to play a major part in the story of Sunday's race as drivers experienced pretty serious wear, with chunks of rubber shedding from the surface. Vettel's first set looked in particularly bad shape after 16 laps of running, but the Pirellis should have an easier time once the track surface has been rubbered in and temperatures increase over the course of the weekend.

Bryce Menzies Red Bull Trophy Truck 6th

Bryce Menzies 6th place finisher (pending tracking devise reviews) at today's San Felipe 250 SCORE desert race. At the beginning of the race Red Bull stable mate Tavo Vildosola burned up a firework displaying raw speed giving Vildosola the early lead. Unfortunate for Vildosola Racing the trophy truck tranny could not hold up to the San Felipe race-course abuse. A extensive transmission repair was due. They made it to the finish line! Looks like 12th or 13th due to the problems.
Bryce Menzies drove a smart race finishing 6th (starting 23rd) in the TT class. San Felipe 250 race results can be found here.
Today's winner, Rob MacCachren covered the course in 4:16:10 hrs followed by Jesse Jones and 68 seconds back Andy McMillin. These are the 3 top finishers. Results and times are unofficial until the race review and tracking devices been checked by SCORE for any irregularities

Menzies Motorsports Ready for Round 2 of 2011 SCORE Desert Racing Season. Bryce Menzies leads SCORE points chase going into the 2011 SCORE San Felipe 250. The 2011 SCORE racing season has officially started and Menzies Motorsports started the year out winning the SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge. Since their big win the crew has been hard at work getting ready for what is turning out to be one of the most exciting and busiest years for the Menzies Team.

One has not to look for to see a RedBull logo them days at the Dakar, No matter if with the "major" RedBull Teams like the KTM of Frenchman Cyril Despres, the 4 Volkswagen Motorsport Touaregs flying the RedBull colors or "the King of Dakar" in the truck class with his Kamaz - Red Bull is shown big time. Additional thee are many athletes in all classes sponsored on a individual level like Nani Roma, Marc Coma and, and, and.... The main competitor in that case Monster Energy is far behind and considering Speed Energy at all - we doubt the ever will play a role in the energy drink market past a hard-core fan-base level.

Redbull Rally Raid continues

The RedBull motorsport games 2011 of Argentina continue! ;-) No matter if bikes, cars or trucks: redbull wins!! Ruben Faria yesterday and today Cyril Despres holding up the Red Bull colors on 2 wheels while "El Matador" Carlos Sainz at both days piloted his RB VW Race Touareg as leader across the special tests. Followed very closed by a green Monster competitor, "Mr. Dakar" Stephane Peterhansel. At truck class so far it's all Kamaz. The Dakar 2011 is only in it's second day with another 12 days to come so one can expect way more action. We are sure RedBull supported teams and individual drivers and riders will be involved at the finals coming back to Buenos Aires. RedBull KTM attack Dakar 2011

Spearheading the KTM attack are two riders that are recognized as the world’s finest exponents of the sport - French-born Cyril Despres and Spaniard Marc Coma, who have won three and two Dakar trophies respectively for KTM. In 2011 they lead two separate teams and their co-riders are Ruben Faria of Portugal and Juan Pedrero Garcia of Spain. All four riders will be onboard the brand new KTM 450 Rally bike, which has been designed by KTM’s R&D Department in close cooperation with the KTM Racing Department with valuable input from the two key factory riders. The KTM 450 Rally has been specifically developed for the Dakar in response to a rule change by the organizers in 2009, which limited the engine size down to 450 cc. The new bike, unveiled to the general public at Milan’s EICMA Motorcycle Show in November, first saw action in the Rally of Morocco in October 2010 when Cyril Despres won the title.
Cyril Despres has chosen Portugal’s Ruben Faria as his team co-rider for Team Red Bull KTM. Born in 1974, Ruben first raced in 1982 in the Portuguese Championship after which he won a number of national MX and Enduro titles as well as, among others, being twice Portuguese Baja champion. He has won three stages in the Dakar, which he says is his favorite race. He wants to finish in the top five in 2011.

Red Bull Catalina Grand Prix

History was made this weekend as the Red Bull Catalina Grand Prix, one of California’s most renowned motorcycles races, made a triumphant return after a 52-year hiatus. The famed race, which was held on the island between 1951 and 1958, was widely considered one of the most unique and prestigious races of the era. The weekend’s cloudy skies and chilly temperatures didn’t stop the more than 800 riders from tackling the newly minted 6-mile course, which featured a variety of terrain including a challenging motocross section and a fire road that took racers up winding turns and around steep bluffs high above the port city of Avalon.
The rebirth of the race brought some of the riders who had competed in Catalina in the 1950s back to ride the island track once more. This included Homer Knapp, who took to the course on Saturday on the same 1920s Harley Davidson he rode in the Catalina race in the 1950s. Bob Sandgren, who won the race in 1957 and 1958, also returned to serve as Grand Marshal. Other Catalina race veterans included Preston Petty and John Rice. The festivities kicked off with a parade lap of the racers through downtown Avalon, where hundreds lined the streets to cheer on their favorites from both yesteryear and today.
Other noteworthy racers included Hall of Famer Malcolm Smith, motocross and off-road champion Rick Johnson, Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck and Olympic skier Daron Rahlves, who won his race. Many notable "young" racers showed up as well, including Travis Pastrana, Kurt Caselli, Ronnie Renner, Jessy Nelson, Johnny Campbell and Quinn Cody. Pastrana’s Nitro Circus pals Andy Bell, Gregg Godfrey and Kurt Nicoll also lined up. The event culminated in the final Pro Race, where Kendall Norman, coming off his fifth Baja 1000 win and the 2010 AMA National Hare & Hound championship, took first place, besting young EnduroCross ace Colton Haacker. Caselli had a mechanical issue and had to drop out, as did Pastrana, who was running in the top-three when his bike seized.
Norman joins Bud Ekins (who performed the famous fence jump in "The Great Escape" for Steve McQueen) and Bob Sandgren (the race’s only two-time winner) as champion of the island spectacle.
"The race was awesome today - it was pretty heated, and people were really battling it out," said Norman. "The whole experience was amazing: the island, the course, the vibe, everything. I’ve won a lot of races this year, but this is definitely one of my favorites. I’m honored that I was able make a little history today."
"I’m just so excited to be back on a bike, and I couldn’t believe how many legends came back for this event," said Pastrana. "I really enjoyed the whole experience - I couldn’t believe the enthusiasm of the fans here on Catalina. People were cheering all the way around the track! This really is an amazing place."
The festivities also included a special screening of the film Nitro Circus Greatest Hits, held at the famous Catalina Casino’s theater. The screening raised $5,000 and all proceeds went to the Island Motorcycle Club (IMC), which organized the Catalina Grand Prix in the 1950s and is now a charity supporting young riders on the island.
Red Bull Catalina Grand Prix followed its 1950s open class tradition by providing races for a wide variety of engine displacements and skill levels. There were 12 races over the two days, with an average of 50 riders per race. The Red Bull Catalina Grand Prix was AMA-sanctioned, and all AMA rules were followed.
