June 18 Drop-in Open House

Redeemer Classical School will host a Drop-in Open House at Organic Grounds Coffeehouse and Cafe

Redeemer Classical School with hold a Drop-in Open House at Organic Grounds Coffeehouse and Cafe in Harrisonburg.

The date is Thursday, June 18 from 6:00-8:00 pm.

Board Member William Leach along with Academic Director, Teresa Patton, will be present to discuss curriculum and related activities as well as answer any questions. Printed materials will be on hand as well.

Interested families are invited to drop-in anytime between 6:00 and 8:00pm in the Meeting Room at Organic Grounds. Refreshments will be served.

You can also view Redeemer student artwork which will continue to be on display in the Meeting Room throughout the month of June.

Also, this summer (July 20-31st), teachers Jeremiah Forshey and Laura Carpenter will hold Redeemer’s Summer Enrichment Program for 5th thru 8th grade children. Two classes will be offered; Games & Stories: Computer Programming with “Alice” and Create & Draw: Tactile-Visual Art Workshop. Details will be posted on Redeemer’s Website soon.

RCS presents Antigone; a Greek tragedy

Join the middle school students of Redeemer Classical School at Court Square Theater, Tuesday, May 19th, at 2pm and 6:30pm. Admission is free.

Antigone is the story of one young woman’s insistence on doing what she believes is right, even when it is against the law. It pits opposing forces against each other in a struggle for the audience’s sympathy: divine law versus human law, the individual versus the state, young versus old, female versus male.

No RSVP necessary; both shows are open freely to the public.

Handbell Festival a Success!

Congratulations to Kathleen Wissinger and the students of Redeemer Classical School for their resounding performace last week at Massanutta Springs! Here is just some of the feedback…

Hello!

I just wanted you all to know what a great job Redeemer Classical and
Kath Wissinger did at their first all-school handbell festival
yesterday. It was held at Massanetta Springs - a beautiful location!
The day was simply phenomenal!

My colleague and I brought two handbell choirs from Wakefield School,
Kath had her Redeemer Classical Handbells, and there was a choir from
Harrisonburg City. Kath did the directing and the kids responded very
well to her. It’s always nice for them to ring under someone else!!!

The best part of the whole day - according to my kids - (aside from
missing school and getting to ring all day, of course) was the games
and activities the PE teacher from Redeemer had planned. They enjoyed
the dodge ball immensely. That broke the ice and got them all talking!
A rousing game of Ha! gave them the giggles for the afternoon, but they
managed to focus pretty well during rehearsal. Lunch was delicious -
taco bar! Kids love tacos. Kath’s ingenious idea of not letting more
than 4 members of one choir at a lunch table allowed the kids to get to
know each other a little better. By the end of the day, they were
exchanging email addresses and phone numbers. My group of 19 is very
excited that next year’s event has already begun to be planned.

If you have a school group, ring in a school group, or know of a school
group - middle school is preferable - keep your eyes and ears open for
information about next year’s event. It was an excellent way for the
kids to get to know other really cool kids who ring bells.

Redeemer Hosts Author Will Vaus

Redeemer Classical School is hosting Will Vaus, author of Mere Theology and The Professor of Narnia: The C. S. Lewis Story

2pm to 3pm, at Redeemer’s Keezletown campus, Mr. Vaus will lead a discussion of “Till We Have Faces” with the 8th grade literature class.

Middle and high school students and their parents are invited to attend. Seating is limited, so please email jforshey@redeemerclassical.org or call 578-1242 if you would like to attend.

Again that evening, Mr. Vaus will speak from 6pm to 7:00pm, at the Harrisonburg City Council Building (409 South Main Street). Mr. Vaus will give a presentation on Lewis’ life and works.

We extend an open invitation to the community. There is no need to register, pay, or RSVP.

3 Informational Coffee Dates Set

Redeemer Classical School with hold 3 Informational Coffee Nights in the relaxed atmosphere of current RCS Parent homes.

The dates are March 13, March 17 and March 19. All will be held from 6:30 - 8:00 pm.

Academic Director, Teresa Patton, along with other RCS teachers, will be present to discuss curriculum and related activities as well as answer any questions.

Festival of the Ages…a HUGE success!

The Redeemer Classical School’s Festival of the Ages, held February 21 at the Keezletown Campus, was a resounding success! Over 300 people attended the Festival and enjoyed medieval games, prizes, popcorn, a medieval feast, science experiments, Keva block building, marionette shows, art and music displays, children’s activities and more! The Jester was a true delight performing throughout the entire Festival, including performances with a unicycle, juggling and balloon creations!

Academic Director, Teresa Patton, kept quite busy in the Curriculum Room giving hourly talks on the benefits of Classical Education as well as what Redeemer has to offer in grades K-8. Displays from the library and classrooms were enjoyed by the participants.

Redeemer Classical School will hold it’s annual Festival of the Ages on Saturday, February 21 from 2-5pm.

This year’s theme, EXPLORING MEDIEVAL TIMES, will take us back into history with fairy tales, knights and castles, and lords and ladies. Featuring a juggler, castle-building, marionettes, door prizes, balloons, food, face-painting, shield-making, educational displays and a host of games!

The Festival is sure to be a hit with the entire family! Free and open to the public.

Stepping Stones Classes Spring 2009

JOIN IN THE FUN!!

Classes meet Wednesday afternoons from January 28th through May 13th at RCS’s Keezletown campus (no classes February 25th or April 8th). Fees include classroom materials and t-shirt. Enroll by January 21 to recieve a $20 discount per class.

Stepping Stones at Redeemer Classical School is a program of enrichment classes taught from a classical Christian perspective - a program which seeks to cultivate a love of WISDOM, a passion for TRUTH and a delight in BEAUTY.

Discipline, joy, respect, diligence and integrated thinking make their way into each lesson as experienced teachers guide students in their explorations of the exciting worlds of art, music, physical fitness, Latin and history.

These once-a-week afternoon sessions are open to pre-K through sixth grade students and run for a single semester (fall or spring). At the end of each the 14-week semester, SS students work will be featured in Redeemer Classical School’s Spring Evening Program on Tuesday, May 19th.
