Video Camera Coming to iPad in Future

MacRumors is reporting on a new job posting by Apple which reveals the possibility of video-capturing capabilities in the next-generation models of Apple iPad. According to the job posting, Apple is looking for a assurance engineer in Media Systems division of their Interactive Media Group which will focus on testing frameworks for digital camera technology in iPad Media segment.

The Media Systems team is looking for a software quality engineer with a strong technical background to test still, video and audio capture and playback frameworks. Build on your QA experience and knowledge of digital camera technology (still and video) to develop and maintain testing frameworks for both capture and playback pipelines.

Apple iPad was unveiled by Steve Jobs last month in a mega event held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. The lack of camera in the announced models of iPad has been seen as one of the biggest disappointments of iPad. It now seems as if Apple is holding off some features for the future versions of the iPad, just like how they did with the original iPhone, and its subsequent models the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS.

Core i7 and Core i5 MacBook Pro to be Announced Tomorrow?

We informed you all yesterday about a Core i7 MacBook Pro, which was recently spotted in a Geekbench benchmark report. And now it seems like Apple may be set to launch one of these as early as Tomorrow. According to a French site named Nowhere Else, Apple will refresh its MacBook Pro lineup tomorrow just in time for the start of Macworld Expo.

An anonymous source who works for Apple just tell me that the new MacBook Pro line will be launched tomorrow.

Apple’s MacBook Pro line is due for an upgrade this year and it would only be wise for Apple to ship these with Core i5/i7 processors as they are now the flagship chipsets of Intel.

If you are in to get a MacBook Pro, hold off from buying one as there is now a high possibility of these new MacBook Pro’s with Core i5 and Core i7 chipsets to hit the retail shelves much sooner than expected.

Next Generation iPhone 4G Front Pictures Leaked

An iPhone repair site by the name of iResQ today has received some iPhone parts, which they claim are from the upcoming next-gen iPhone which is expected to launch in summer of this year. The interesting bits which they found from this new iPhone 4G shell are as follows.

1) The LCD appears to be factory glued to the digitizer which is more similar to the first generation iPhones than the iPhone 3G and 3GS. The digitizer can be separated from the LCD on the 3G and 3GS models, which should be interesting to all, but for the repair folks like us–this means that the 4G screen repair price will be higher since both parts will have to be replaced at once.

2) The iPhone 4G front panel seems to be about 1/4″ longer than its predecessors.

3) There is an interesting reflective, mirror-like surface directly above the speaker. This is likely a spot for the proximity sensor. If that’s what it is, it’s in a different location than previous models.

Next-gen iPhone is likely to be unveiled at this year’s WWDC conference. It is expected to feature a faster processor, a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, camera on the front for video conferencing, support for WiFi-N standard and so on.

Core i7 MacBook Pro Spotted in a Benchmark Report

The current generation of MacBook Pro’s are powered by Intel Core 2 Duo processors. At CES 2010 last month, Intel officially unveiled Core i5 and Core i7 processors for the first time for portable computers. Apple’s MacBook Pro line is due for an upgrade this year and it would only be wise for Apple to ship these with Core i5/i7 processors as they are now the flagship chipsets of Intel.

In a Geekbench report posted at the said site has revealed a MacBook Pro with a 2.66 GHz Intel "Arrandale", which suggests that a new high-end MacBook Pro model may be out sooner than expected. The benchmark score of 5260 for this machine is significantly higher than the current-gen MacBook Pro models with 2.66 GHz processors. This benchmark test which was run by a computer identifying itself as a "MacBook Pro 6,1" suggests it’s an upgrade to current Pro models which uses "MacBook Pro 5,x" identifiers. The 6,x identifiers had been seen in developer releases of OS X 10.6.2 last August. This computer was running an unreleased build of Mac OS X 10.6.2 called build 10C3067. Here are some screenshots from the report.

The processor shown is listed as an Intel Core i7 M 620 running at 2.66GHz with Turbo frequency up to 3.33 GHz. The Core i7 M 620 is a high end dual core processor with Turbo Boost and Hyperthreading technology.

Download Sn0wbreeze V1.5 to Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.3

Sn0wbreeze 3.1.3 V1.5 has been released which adds support for iPod touch 2G (older non-MC model). For those of you who don’t know, Sn0wbreeze is a jailbreaking tool like PwnageTool for iPhone and iPod touch which can be used to create custom .ipsw files. But unlike the PwnageTool, Sn0wbreeze is fully compatible to work with Windows machines.

Instructions for jailbreaking using sn0wbreeze V1.5 are exactly similar to the last release. Follow the complete step by step guide posted here to jailbreak your iPhone and iPod touch using sn0wbreeze 3.1.3 V1.5. Once you are done with jailbreak, you can then unlock your iPhone 3G and 3GS using ultrasn0w or blacksn0w.

I would strongly suggest iPhone 3GS users to stay away from this release as this release like all previous versions sends iPhone 3GS into an infinite loop after first reboot. If you have a Mac, I will strongly suggest you to use Dev-Team’s PwnageTool 3.1.5 which can jailbreak iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS (older bootrom and with baseband 04.26.08).

Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.3 with PwnageTool 3.1.5

PwnageTool 3.1.5 for creating iPhone 3.1.3 custom ipsw files is now LIVE! The infamous iPhone Dev-Team has updated their PwnageTool for Mac to make it compatible with the new iPhone 3.1.3 firmware. This latest version of PwnageTool can jailbreak the original iPhone (Edge/2G), iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS(older bootrom only with baseband 04.26.08) and iPod touch (1G and 2G non-MC model; 2G should also be pre-jailbroken) running on iPhone firmware 3.1.3. The custom .ipsw firmware files created with PwnageTool can update iPhone to firmware 3.1.3 without updating its baseband so that it can be unlocked to run on any carrier SIM. If you previously relied on blacksn0w unlock for iPhone 3GS, then this is NOT for you. iPod touch 3G is also currently not supported.

Note For Windows XP/Vista/7 Users: PwnageTool 3.1.5 is for Mac OS X only. Windows users should follow the guide posted here or here in order to jailbreak and unlock iPhone running with firmware 3.1.3.

The following step-by-step instructions will help you jailbreak your iPhone running on iPhone firmware 3.1.3 with PwnageTool 3.1.5:

Step 1: Download and install the latest version of iTunes.

Step 2: Now start iTunes and sync your iPhone with your PC so that it backs-up all your important data including settings, apps, music, contacts and photos.

Step 3: Download PwnageTool 3.1.5 and the original iPhone OS 3.1.3 for your version of iPhone (download links given below). Move all these files to your desktop.

Step 4: Start PwnageTool 3.1.5 and select your device:

Step 5: PwnageTool 3.1.5 will now automatically detect the correct firmware for your device as shown in the screenshot below:

Step 6: Click on "No" when PwnageTool asks you “Do you have an iPhone contract that would activate normally through iTunes?”:

Clicking on “Yes” will update your baseband to the latest version which will make your device almost impossible to unlock. Click on “Yes” only if you are on an officially supported carrier like AT&T.

Step 7: PwnageTool will now create the custom .ipsw file for your iPhone which will be jailbroken.

The following “ihaz Success” screen will confirm that the requested .ipsw file has been created successfully.

Step 8: Once the .ipsw file has been created, you will now have to restore your iPhone to this custom firmware 3.1.3 that you just cooked using PwnageTool 3.1.5 for your iPhone. Click on your phone icon from the sidebar in iTunes. Now press and hold left “alt” button (“Shift” button on Windows) on the keyboard and then click on “Restore” (Not “Update” or “Check for Update”) button in the iTunes and then release the “Shift” button.

This will make iTunes prompt you to select the location for your downloaded custom firmware 3.1.3. Select that custom .ipsw file and click on “Open”.

Step 9: Now sit back and enjoy as iTunes does the rest for you. This will involve a series of automated steps. Be patient at this stage and don’t do anything silly. Just wait while iTunes installs the new firmware 3.1.3 on your iPhone. Your iPhone screen at this point will be showing a progress bar indicating installation progress. After the installation is done, iPhone will restart automatically and you should now have a fully jailbroken iPhone/iPod touch running on firmware 3.1.3.

How to: Unlock iPhone on 3.1.3:
You can now follow the tutorial/guide posted here to unlock your iPhone on firmware 3.1.3 using ultrasn0w (Baseband 04.26.08 only).

Step 10: Once you are done with the unlocking and jailbreak process. You can now restore all your settings, apps, music, contacts and photos to the newly installed firmware version 3.1.3 by restoring the backup that you made in Step 2 from iTunes.

Alternatively, you can follow our complete jailbreaking guide for iPhone 3.1.3 2G and iPod touch 1G/2G using redsn0w 0.9.3, or redsn0w 0.9.4 for iPhone 2G, 3G and iPod touch 1G/2G, Sn0wbreeze 3.1.3 V1.4 for iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS and unlock using ultrasn0w or blacksn0w.

For iPhone 3.1.2 firmware, you can use blackra1n, PwnageTool, redsn0w, sn0wbreeze, ultrasn0w and blacksn0w to jailbreak and unlock your iPhone and iPod touch.

PwnageTool for iPhone 3.1.3 Jailbreak in Works

The iPhone Dev-Team has just confirmed (sort of.) that they are working on a new version of PwnageTool which will enable iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS users to jailbreak iPhone 3.1.3 firmware without having to update their baseband. For those of you who don’t know, PwnageTool, like Sn0wbreeze is an iPhone jailbreaking tool which creates custom .ipsw files without the upgraded baseband. These custom .ipsw firmware files created with PwnageTool can then update iPhone to the latest firmware (iPhone 3.1.3) without updating its baseband so that it can be unlocked to run on any carrier SIM using either ultrasn0w or blacksn0w. In a nutshell, PwnageTool for Mac is what Sn0wbreeze is for Windows users.

Any ETA on PwnageTool for iPhone 3.1.3 is not known yet, but judging from Dev-Team’s past work, it shouldn’t be too long before it is released.

It also brings support for iPod touch 1G. For those of you who don’t know, Sn0wbreeze is a jailbreaking tool like blackra1n, redsn0w and PwnageTool for iPhone and iPod touch which can be used to create custom .ipsw files. But unlike the PwnageTool, Sn0wbreeze is fully compatible to work with Windows 7/Vista and XP machines.

Sn0wbreeze supports jailbreaking on iPhone 2G/3G/3GS(old bootrom and non-MC) and iPod touch 1G. iPod touch 2G and 3G are not supported at the moment. Instructions for jailbreaking using sn0wbreeze are exactly similar to the last release. Windows Phone 7 to Feature Zune UI, No Multitasking like iPhone

Folks at PPCGeeks have grabbed first exclusive details on the upcoming Windows Phone 7 (or Windows Mobile 7) related announcement ahead of this month’s MWC (Mobile World Congress). Without any further delay, here is what Windows Phone 7 is rumored to feature.

-The User Interface is based upon codename “METRO”. It will be very similar to the Zune HD User Interface with a complete revamp of the “Start” screen. The UI is “Very Clean”, “Soulful” and “Alive”
-Unfortunately there will be no Flash support at the get go as there was not enough time to implement these features.
-Windows Phone 7 will only support application installation through service based delivery. (i.e Marketplace). Application installation via storage card will not be possible.
- No Multi-Task support. Applications will “Pause” when in the background, however will support notifications via push notifications.
-Marketplace will now support “try before you buy” as well as an API
-No NETCF backwards compatibility. This means the original rumor of no backward compatibility for applications holds to be true. That being said, there are high hopes of porting the NetCF to the newer platform easily.
-Microsoft is confident that devices will be ready by September 2010
-Full Zune Integration
-Windows Mobile Device Center will no longer be used. Zune software to take over syncing via PC.
-OEM Interfaces will not be allowed to run on the device. Say goodbye to Sense UI / SPB Mobile Shell / Point UI / Infinity, etc, etc
-Full XBOX Gaming Integration (Gamer tag, achievements, friends, avatars, merchandising, etc)
-Full support for social networking

While the integration with Zune and Xbox will be a welcome change, but the lack of backward compatibility in apps, no OEM like interfaces e.g. Sense UI and no multitasking support is going to turn off many existing Windows phone users who have been solely using Windows phones for their flexibility and versatility in customizing the platform the way they like it.

Of course, we will have to wait and see what Microsoft is going to actually announce come February 15th, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Sony Ericsson Aspen with Windows Mobile 6.5.3 – Hands-On Video

Sony Ericsson Aspen is the first Windows phone which is powered by the newly released Windows Mobile 6.5.3. Sergey Kuzmin over at Mobile-review has got hold of a pre-release test unit, which he has lovingly demonstrated running WinMo 6.5.3. He has also nicely put it up against various different handsets from Sony Ericsson, Nokia and RIM to give us a good idea on how does it actually size up against different handsets.

Windows Mobile 6.5.3 was quietly RTM’d late last month with devices now starting to ship in this quarter of 2010. Microsoft is also expected to unveil (features and plans) on Windows Mobile 7 at the MWC this month. The devices with Windows Mobile 7 however wont ship before Q4 2010. [via Engadget]
