You Think It's Gonna Rain?

It rained heavily earlier ... cleared up, and now the thunder is rumbling loudly. It looks like rain!

Regardless of the weather, which changes like a woman changes her mind, I went to the post office to mail a gift to a friend.

Then to JoAnn Fabrics, where I learned several things.

1. Quilting fabrics (100% cotton) are always 30% off. That way you can never use your 50% fabric coupon. Saving JoAnn 20%. Pretty smart, Jo!

2. Mainly old ladies shop there mid-day, but we're all quite nice to one another. I was relieved to see two young girls (ladies?) shopping for fabric. Sometimes I wonder if sewing will go the way of the dinosaur, so it warms my heart to see the younger generation (gosh, when did I quit being part of that group?) shopping for patterns and material.

3. And this is the part that really revved up my engine: McCall's patterns are on sale for $1 each this week. Do you know how much patterns cost these days? I was shocked - shocked and appalled - to pull a skirt pattern out of the Simplicity drawer and see $15.99. I turned to the elderly lady still looking at the pattern books, blurted out the price in a rather high-pitched voice, and asked what that was all about. She said "That's why I'm looking at McCall's patterns, they're $1 each this week." Well, that's a $15 savings right there, so I found a similar (skirt) pattern in the McCall's book and snagged my $1 pattern. Haha, Jo!

I have not shopped for patterns nor fabric since we adopted our Elizabeth, 16 years ago. I guess inflation hit the pattern industry. Craziness.

Back to my beginning subject, we are now having our second big storm of the day. So yeah, it's gonna rain, and it IS raining.

Update: Looking for patterns because I cannot find a skirt for sale anywhere that isn't black (already have one) or white (makes you look bigger) - and I really want a color or two for summer.

Pretty Patchwork Pillow Reveal

This patchwork pillow is my all-time favorite sewing project in over 30 years of sewing!!!

Helen Philipps is the amazing creator of this project, which can be found in her gorgeous book titled Pretty Patchwork Gifts. There are over 25 simple sewing projects combining patchwork, applique, and embroidery (copied from the cover). You can purchase it from Amazon.com here.

For my pillow, all the patchwork fabrics except one were purchased at XO Gigi Fabrics ... Gigi has the most incredible fabrics in the world (in my little opinion!). Her shop is in Florida - I wish I could move there, although that could seriously hurt the budget. You may remember from previous posts that I earn Paypal credits via Swagbuck surveys, games, and internet searches - and I spend all of it at XO Gigi Fabrics.

The backing fabric is Sugar Hill by Tanya Whelan for Fresh Spirit. I love the colors and thought they matched up perfectly with the colors in the patchwork.

This gorgeous pillow now sits on my bed and adds delightful interest to my rather plain bedroom. Love it!

Celebrating with Family

For Father's Day we visited Mr. Redo's sister and her husband in the country. We celebrated three fathers: Gaga (Mr. Redo's and Linda's dad), Chuck (Linda's husband), and Mr. Redo. They're all great fathers!

Linda served an amazing meal - it was so good that Gaga and I talked about it during the entire thirty-minute drive back to town.

Elizabeth gave Mr. Redo a new GPS and Matthew gave him a new grill. Of course Mr. Redo worked hard to pay for these new items, but he was very excited to receive them. He's geographically challenged and he does lots of grilling, so now he's got everything he needs.

On the way home I had to pull over twice - these pictures had to be taken ~
