I love to share the knowledge I have to aspiring painters so they can quickly realize the gratification of creating paintings from nothing more than a piece of canvas. At times I may talk about happenings in the art world or share tips but most of all, I want everyone to have fun and learn to love art!

Paper before Canvas

Sketching saves a lot of time and money! So, you have this idea in mind and you are ready to put your thoughts on canvas but not so fast. Always remember that paper costs a lot less than canvas. Prior to starting any painting project always sketch your ideas out on paper first and then once you feel comfortable, move it to canvas.

Your sketch certainly doesn't need to be this detailed but have an idea of what you want it to look like first, even if it is an abstract unless you want to just throw paint on canvas and see where it goes. If that's the case, have fun cleaning the paint off the walls. Good luck!
Painting is easy to do and most hobby shops have low cost art supplies to get you started for well under $100. When you're starting out, try acrylic or water paint first since it dries faster than oil and is easy to work with. You might be surprised what you're capable of creating and it is all art!

I have included a painting I am working on that displays both shape placement with sketching techniques and the process of slowly bringing it to life through color and shading.

Experiment and most of all, have a blast!
