I thought you would never ask! As many already know, demand for seats at last month’s Google Plus Hangout exceeded capacity by a factor of 6 times! Before November we’d never had more then 9 people join the hangout. Then all of a sudden, 60 or more wanted in (even without Claudia)! As a result I went looking for a different solution.

This month we will hold the hangout at Tiny Chat. Despite the name, Tiny Chat can accommodate 12 people on camera and an unlimited number of text chatters. This should work out just fine for our purposes.

I’ll once again be hosting a Google+ Hangout during Rod’s SCCM Guru Webcast. We have found that sitting together in a hangout while watching and listening to a presentation enhances the information as we can see each other agree and ask questions in the hangout before sending them up to the webcast.

This is the third G+ Hangout during a BDNA webcast. The prior ones during Kim Oppalfens Webcast in August and John Nelson’s in September. Let’s make Rod’s webcast the best attended to date and let’s blow the doors of the Google+ Hangout!

They had the stage lights off during these videos, but I was able to brighten them a bit. Enjoy!

This opening day I held the Social Networking for Codgers breakfast at Harrahs Flavors Buffet. There were six of us for breakfast and I decided I would need to hold a more in-depth training for technical people to really do this topic justice. High profile people from all walks need to be able to connect and have conversations with their constituents via tools like Facebook and Twitter.  Look for a webinar on this very topic by me in the near future.

Next we went over for registration. Here is where you get your badge and backpack full of goodies. I was able to bypass the rather long line and go right to vendor registration.  On the way out I took the first video of the line and followed by the unboxing of the swag bag.  Be sure to comment below if you see yourself in either video!

From there, I connected with a few friends and made some plans. Then we went to one of the Freshman Orientation sessions and met up with some new friends from the Kansas City area.  Hopefully, we can get the Kansas City Area Systems Management Users Group going again.  Look for a meeting in June at the earliest.

The opening day Vendor Expo is essentially a party with brochures and swag. What’s really cool about the #MMS2010 opening party is the mad dash to get a MyITForum party button. Much like Charlie’s Golden Ticket, the MyITForum party button gets you into the party.

The second video chronicles a couple of guys waiting over 2 hours to be first in line for their button, many of the folks receiving their buttons, a celebrity ex-hockey player, and a couple prizes won.

What it does not show is the mad rush itself. I had the camera on pause and missed the entire thing. The camera and my video taping experience were barely two weeks old at the time. (Which explains why so many attendees appear to be missing their heads!)

If you want to see the mad rush, you’ll just have to join us for MMS 2011 at Mandalay Bay.  Until then imagine, if you will, you are standing in a dry river bed somewhere out west. You’re expectant, but not too worried when you hear a voice in the sky intone, “The 2001 Microsoft Management Summit Expo is now open.” This is followed by a rumbling in the distance growing quickly louder.  You look toward the sound and you see a herd of desert creatures bounding toward you as they attempt to escape a flood of amber liquid rushing after them. You are thinking you should move, but you look around and do not see any reachable safe havens. Just as you think it is about time to let your bowels go and give up the ghost, the charging herd stops as quick as it started.  Then the wave of amber liquid engulfs you and you admonish folks to try to keep their beer in the cup rather than all over everybody else.

MyOTRadio Live this week was a bust. But I made you a special!

My fourth special podcast leading up to Microsoft Management Summit 2010 April 19-23 in Las Vegas is another drivecast.  I am driving west out of Jefferson City, MO through California, MO on April 16, 2010.

I talk about how much we are going to miss many of System Center’s Rock Stars due to the eruption of the volcano that cannot be spelled spewing ashes into the atmosphere and making it unsafe to fly manmade craft out of or into Western Europe. We miss you guys, I do hope you can get together and see some of the event.

This also means there may be some extra room for last minute fill-ins if you still want to come.  It also means there are some parties with some room for substitutions, so get your best game face on and be sure to watch The Replacements as a refresher.

I promise nor April Fool’s pranks, so I hope you can make it

Thanks to the kindness of Rod Trent and MyITForum I have a gate pass to the Summit this year.  I can’t wait! It will be the first time since 2005.  System Center Configuration Manager was still Systems Management Server and the 2003 version had been out for just over a year. The exhibit hall had many vendors, but not near as many as there will be this year. Of the ones there in 2005 several have been absorbed into larger companies, others have folded, while some have become very powerful in their own right.

The things that have remained constant all these years has been the dedication of the System Center people at Microsoft to create the best product possible and the wonderful community with MyITForum as the cornerstone.

I want to give back. I will be coming around with my cub reporter kit and offering to do interviews.  You could be an Admin, a Microsoft engineer, a Vendor, or a retired CEO; if you have something to say, I’ll either record it and broadcast it through my little radio show.

Last year I signed up to teach a class at UMCK’s Communiversity. I proposed a class about how to intensify a résumé and even came up with a web site idea to support it. My proposal was accepted and the class was scheduled for March 18th, 2010. (This is why last week’s MyOTRadio was cancelled).

I spend some quality time designing the web site and putting together the presentation. I’m just a guy, but felt I had some good insight into what works and what definitely does not work when it comes to résumés.

Last Thursday finally arrives and I drive the 2.5 hours to UMKC in Kansas City. I find the class location in the Student Center (which looks suspiciously like a student union).  The classroom is a conference room wit seating for 12 around four tables pushed together.  The next thing I notice is that there is no projector.  Immediately the part of in Alice’s Restaurant where Officer Obie notices the the judge has a seeing eye dog:

It was beginning to look like nobody was going to see my 28 PowerPoint slides all formatted with animated fly-ins and pictures and speaker notes on nearly every single one.

Once I was finally able to catch my breath and think a minute, I decided my slides would be just as good on a 15.4 inch laptop screen as a the 10 foot projected screen I had envisioned. So I set up my laptop. turned it around and had the 9 attendees sit at the other 3 tables and I sat next to the laptop.  I used the entire 2 hours with a short break in the middle.  The students were all interest and thanked me so over all, I’d say it was a smashing success.

Back on March 11th I recorded Episode 6 of MyOTRadio. It had the most live listeners to date at 8!

Golden Breadstick went to John Massa and all the press that doted on his failings plus all his friends who scuttled away from him like crabs.  The political process in this nation needs to get back on track before everyone becomes alienated pushing the extremes even further out.

WordPress for Android seems pretty slick. The U/I is familiar and easy, and it is real easy to add pictures to the post (so long as the picture is already on your phone). Let’s see if I post more often as a result.

Motorola Cliq

The touch screen on the new Tmobile Motorola Cliq is pretty good. I have a screen protector on it, plus I am a lefty, so it is taking some focus to finger ‘Cliq’ on the right link with my big fingers.

On the other hand, I have no trouble at all thinking that my finger can click other things such as options on my VOIP phone or the icons on my computer screen. Unfortunately, neither of these actually have touch screens. In the case of my phone, I must have pressed everywhere at least a half-a-dozen times before it dawned on me that there are buttons all over the thing for a reason!

So I ask, is there a term for that?

Google reader is very functional, but results in a small font, so a better reader client is in the future as well.
